Thread for #3-08: Foundation's Price and #3-12: Fury's Toll | |

You are all at the Grand Lodge when you receive a summons to Ambrus Valsin's office.

“Close the door,” Ambrus Valsin murmurs as the team gathers in his office. “Let me start by saying, this mission is not for dissemination among other members of the Society.” The chamberlain of the Grand Lodge gives everyone a serious look in turn before continuing. “This mission is not an investigation, just a simple, straightforward assignment, but that makes it no less important.”

“I need you to book passage to the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, and cross over into Irrisen. You’re to head north and rendezvous with another team who have captured some—” Valsin pauses for a heartbeat before continuing. “—persons of interest. We have reason to believe that these individuals have information on the Shadow Lodge cells that are refusing to reconcile with the Society under Grandmaster Torch’s leadership.” Valsin’s expression becomes particularly grim at that point. “If these rogue cells are outright refusing amnesty, then they represent a clear threat to all of us. I need you to take charge of these captives and get them out of Irrisen safely and quietly. Once you’re clear of Irrisen, a larger extraction team will take custody of them and bring them in for questioning. Of course, we will cover the expense of your travel in full, and provide maps to lead you to the meeting point in Irrisen. Because of the nature of the mission and Irrisen itself, you’ll be meeting the other team in the field, away from what passes for civilization up there. The team you’ll be getting the prisoners from will show you the best route out of Irrisen, and the castellan of Trollheim has agreed to grant you passage through his lands. You are responsible for avoiding unexpected trouble between the handoff and Trollheim.”

Valsin gestures for the team to depart, but pauses, staring at his fireplace for a moment before adding, “Wait. You need to know this. Your prisoners will be goblins. The Shadow Lodge separatists made extensive use of the sadistic creatures as soldiers and servants, and as much as you may want to throttle them, please remember that we need them alive.” Then with a final nod for luck, the venture-captain dismisses the group.

This is a good time for character introductions as you travel North.

You are definitely keeping a low profile this trip. Keep Pathfinder Society affiliation under your hat for anyone who is not a designated contact. Valsin says.

Also, if anyone wants to make Knowledge(Local) or Knowledge(Geography) checks, either roll them in a spoiler or let me know your bonus and I will roll them.

Naomi Hiddenleaf, arrives prior to the meeting to meet whoever she'll be working with on this assignment. She waits in the corner ruffling the ears of a dog (a boxer breed). She's wearing flashy and bright colors over her ashen grey skin, and her dark red hair hangs loose and long.

She greets whoever enters with an easy smile.

In the meeting, she doesn't really comment except to ask "How many prisoners are we expecting?"

Darn, ye're kidding... Bloody blasted goblins?! They need to be killed on the spot, that's all! What the heck?...

All this (and much more) is said by a dwarf with grayish skin, subconsciously causing dislike among other dwarves. He does not wear a beard (which is obviously a challenge to the foundations of his people and could be considered madness), only a light mustache. There are several tattoos and a couple of scars on his bald head. He grumbles, swears and spits about this assignment for a long time...

Egavreis knowledge(local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Egavreis knows Goblins are insane and sadistic. They have a strong hatred of dogs and a fear of horses, both rivaled only by their unnatural love of fire and destruction.

He also knows making the journey in 3-1/2 days doesn’t allow for much time for hunting, unless the party uses the extra day allowed by the extraction team. Provisions for the journey for the goblins will be provided, but they’ll need supervision. Goblins have fast metabolisms and find hunger painful. If they’re not watched, they’ll eat their rations all at once.

My name is Erhun Gabarris, and this isn't my first mission, so I should have known better than being late for a mission's briefing. I had the essential informations, and bought some stuff for the road. I don't speak Goblin, but I bought some potions that could help.

Your journey from Absalom to northwest Irrisen is long but mostly uneventful. You finally arrive at the rendezvous location with the team sent to capture the goblins, led by Sverrir Lightfoot.

Lightfoot’s camp stands approximately 53 miles north of the Rimeflow River and 6 miles east of the Iceflow River. Her team consists of six Ulfen rangers and druids, including Ragna Lightfoot herself. When you arrive, Ragna’s team are already in the process of breaking down their shelters in preparation to move. Lightfoot greets you.

Here are the detainees you need to transport. Their names are Ak, Bokker, Frum, Guzmuk, Neeka, and Omgot. I think the easiest place for you to cross the Rimeflow River is at a Hamlet named Harvest's End. I've circled it on this map. as she hands you a map of the area with the route to the hamlet marked on it.

She also provides 4 days of rations for each of you and the goblins. The goblins are unarmed and unarmored.

The map that Ragna Lightfoot provides takes you past two ancient stone watchtowers set in a low mountain pass. Lightfoot’s map indicates they’ve been deserted since the Winter War.

A narrow southern pass winds its way through steep, icy hills, the frigid wind periodically dusting all in its path with a layer of snow. Two ancient stone watchtowers stand on either side of the path between two nearly vertical bluffs rising thirty feet to either side, just as Lightfoot’s map indicated they would. The eighty-foot-wide path narrows to a mere twenty-five feet in width between the two fifty-foot towers.

Would anyone like to make a Diplomacy or Intimidate check to keep them from charging forward?

Neeka and the Goblins look glum.

We never get to have any fun!

But they comply, sitting sullenly silent behind the boulder.

Compass Rose added to lower right of map for reference. You are approaching from North.

Naomi manages to spot five Goblins on top of the towers, four archers and a caster of some sort. The Eastern tower also has a pot of bubbling liquid. There are doors in the Southern walls of the towers. As previously stated, the towers are 50 feet tall. The Goblins are keeping watch, but are not particularly observant.

It does seem like they will spot the group if they get much closer without stealth.

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for Levels 1–5.

Tasked with escorting a group of goblin prisoners from their camp to civilization for interrogation by the Pathfinder Society, you must protect them not only from the beasts and hazards of the wilderness, but themselves.

TACTICS
=================================================
Nel’setsya will implant the False Flanker trick on anyone with the sneak attack class feature each day. With any leftover trick she will implant the Chain of Eyes trick on the party scout or if the party has none, the obvious front-line member of the party.

In combat, she will first impose her Hypnotic Stare on obvious brutish enemies and attempt to cast lullaby or sleep (or both, if situation allows).

In other situations, she will use Ventriloquism and/or Ghost Sound in combination with her Sound Mimicry ability in order to confuse, disorient or delay the enemy (or for fun purposes, in social situations).

I do have lower level characters if you want to play low-tier

The Exchange

Signing up my ninja for the moment to complete the set of levels on RPG Chronicles. Got characters at levels 1-2 if we end up wanting low subtier.

1) Character name: Gnagnatsu♥the♥Gnignja
2) PFS#-Character#: 312045-8
3) Character Class & Level: Ninja 4
4) Faction: The Exchange

9) Anything unusual or fun about your PC that you think the GM or other players may like to know? Just let me know if you want me to turn off her "gnomish accegnt".

Liberty's Edge

If this ends up being the higher tier, I'll have to drop out. I feel it would be too risky for a lvl1.

Grand Lodge

Lol, I forgot to post with the character's alias, so here it is.

Grand Archive

I was hoping to provide a scenario new players could paly to get started in the society. I noticed a couple of you volunteered that you had other characters you could play to bring the sub-tier down. Would that be acceptable?

I want people to play the characters they want, but I also want to give new players an opportunity to get started.

The Exchange

Got a level 1 monk, level 2 unchained rogue or level 3 wizard I can use.

Grand Archive

The Guild Guide states that parties of six or seven must play the High subtier if the APL is between subtiers.

6 players x APL 2.5 to get to low tier = 15 levels. Any higher APL gets rounded to APL 3 and high tier

We currently have
1+3+5+2+5+4=20 levels for 6 players APL=3.333

If the level 4 Ninja drops to level 1
1+3+5+2+5+1=17 for 6 players APL=2.8333

Grand Lodge

too bad this isn't replayable

Grand Lodge

I wouldn't worry about playing lvl 1, as this is a sizable group and even in my first ever 3.0 game, I was level 1 in a level 5 party and I did fine.

No problem for me to switch characters, I have several level 1-3.

If need arise I can create a new character for party balance (if we need a rogue, a wizard or something else)

Here what I have, by level
L1 Warpriest, Brawler, Cavalier, Druid (Druid & Warpriest to finalize)
L2 Swashbuckler, Skald/Bloodrager
L3 Cleric, Bloodrager

Liberty's Edge

Theoretically, I may have level 1 and 3 characters, they are already at the end of their adventures - but right now they are not free yet.

Liberty's Edge

Thank you. That would really help me out. I just needed 1xp to level her up. I have a bunch of chronicles already waiting for her to be applied.

The Concordance

I can switch my level 3 mesmerist to any of the following:

medium 2
occultist 2
witch 2
cleric 1
inquisitor 1

Grand Archive

We can start as soon as everyone has finalized characters and updated the RPGChronicles page. If anyone has problems editing the characters they entered, let me know and I will update the information.

It seems that my level 1 melee cleric will be released very soon, since the Special ended with the victory of the pathfinders .)

RPG Chronicles currently has
Gnagnatsu♥the♥Gnignja
Ninja Lvl: 4

Beryx Zinder
Hunter Lvl: 5

Isandra
Cleric Lvl: 1

Naomi Hiddenleaf
src/mnk Lvl: 2

Kaidynn
Medium Lvl: 2

Beleg Strongbow
Slayer Lvl: 2

Which gives us 16 character levels for 6 players, which is just barely over APL 2.5, which we can round down

Sovereign Court

Gnagnatsu will swap out, which definitely gets us under.

1) Character name: Egavreis
2) PFS#-Character#: 312045-10
3) Character Class & Level: Unchained Rogue 2
4) Faction: Sovereign Court
5) Day Job (with roll): Knowlegde (Nobility): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

9) Anything unusual or fun about your PC that you think the GM or other players may like to know? Negative Energy Affinity - please only heal with items he provides

Khon'Ur is a cleric of a deity who... was my former character too. There is a way to achieve divinity by a character in PFS and then to make 'legal priests' of this new deity. His goddess, Chandrabha, is a chaotic neutral deity with domains of Chaos, Destruction and War (subdomains Blood, Catastrophe, Demon, Insect, Tactics). She loves snakes, insects, martial skills and victory through grappling and choking.

@GM: can you please start the gameplay thread so that we can receive notifications for new posts? Thx!

How do you achieve this?

I'm curious as well.

Grand Archive

We are definitely at low tier now. It looks like someone may have dropped? Or just removed their character from the sign-in sheet? I'm nit sure if that is a drop or not. Either way, I'll post the intro and see who actually plays.

Grand Lodge

PM me, I'll tell you where to look for this boon. Just keep in mind - this is a spoiler that reduces the amount of fun from the scenario (the "wow, whoaaa, (s)he what?!" effect) and you need a 12+ level PFS character.

Sovereign Court

Correct. Such spoilers are definitely not encouraged, especially from Seeker-level scenarios that completely can go one way or the other depending on character choice.

Sovereign Court

I have run the scenario that grants that option, and one of the characters took it.

Sovereign Court

Same here. Only one of the PC did it but had no idea what would happen. It was a glorious PFS moment.
