Hey, question: Is it too late to retcon a trait of Tarka’s?
Yes, it's too late, sorry; we're already in our second encounter. You are still 1st level, though, so you can retrain it for free after this scenario. You won't be able to use the illegal trait during this scenario.

Peeking at everyone's profile, it looks like Seltyel is our face with the only charisma above 10 lol.

Classical group! Or not so classical, if the fighter has Charisma 15!

![]() |

Not entirely true - my Kobold, Tarka, has a 14 in Charisma. And the luck with the dice to help!
That is great news! We will share the diplomatic tasks. It was too much for a simple figher!

@GM Zin - can you explain what is on the map? It looks like the circles are columns. Are the areas in the middle water-filled pits? What are the arcs currently between me and the hydra?

GM Zin |

Yes, there are both columns and a fallen column. The middle is water with a small strip of land that connects the two sides. The arcs are... indistinct, haha. There was no map included in the scenario for this scene, so I just grabbed something I found online; I wanted something that was more than just an open arena. Combat is always more fun with terrain features than just an open map. I'm inclined to call the arcs difficult terrain (they look like broken ground to me), though I'm open to suggestion if you have a better idea.

![]() |

That sounds good. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any cover from my position.
I appreciate the extra touch of finding a map. I haven't run a game this century so I've often wondered what comes with a scenario and what the GM has to come up with on their own.

GM Zin |

We have until 5pm Central time (US) on the 12th to wrap this one up (so, slightly more than a day from the time of this post). It's probably time to start swinging, folks! If we can get the posting activity up, more rounds is better, but it's better to kill the hydra than not. I'll prioritize this game due to the timing; if you all want to post a bunch; I'll be here to keep up with you.

![]() |

With it down, can we just call in Axetongue now to end the fight?

GM Zin |

With it down, can we just call in Axetongue now to end the fight?
That trigger will happen at the end of the round anyway. You don't need to call him; if the hydra's down at the end of the round (i.e. if nobody heals the hydra), Axetongue will call the fight in your favor then.
Khon'Ur already delayed during this round. If Leowarin and Tarka do the same--or take any action that doens't heal the hydra--we'll be done.

GM Zin |

Just to be clear, now that Tarka has posted and Khon'Ur has already delayed this round, that I'm looking for an in-character post from Leowarin in Gameplay either taking an action or announcing another delay. Things discussed in this thread don't count unless posted in Gameplay. Leo's delay from Round 6 is no longer current; it's only in the round tracker like that so that I can keep track of things (that's why I note the round they occurred in).

Note: soft cover (cover provided by creatures) only protects against ranged attacks. While cover does prevent AoOs, AoOs are typically melee attacks, so wouldn't be prevented by soft cover.
With all due respect, the text in link says the opposite. There are different types of cover indeed, but any cover in general prevents AoO.
Cover and Attacks of Opportunity: You can’t execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with cover relative to you.
If we think that this is only about a "clean" cover, then it turns out that the improved cover also does not prevent from AoO - in its description, the authors did not repeat again that it prevents AoO, only about stealth and reflexes (same with the soft cover).

GM Zin |

Soft Cover: Creatures, even your enemies, can provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, such soft cover provides no bonus on Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to make a Stealth check. (emphasis added)
This is a case of specific trumps general. In general, cover protects you from Attacks of Opportunity. However creatures (i.e. soft cover) specifically only provide protection against ranged attacks. Since soft cover doesn't provide cover against melee attacks, it also doesn't prevent those attacks of opportunity. If other rules combine such that a foe were able to use a ranged attack as an attack of opportunity (unusual, but possible), then soft cover would protect against that particular attack of opportunity, but not against a melee attack of opportunity.

![]() |

Thanks for the clarification. I hope I'm not really annoying you, I just want to figure it out. So...
When making a melee attack against a target that isn’t adjacent to you (such as with a reach weapon), use the rules for determining cover from ranged attacks.
It seems to me that this text directly says that the soft cover should protect against AoO with reach.

GM Zin |

You're absolutely right.
My one major complaint about this game system is the wide dispersal of the rules. If you don't have the entire ruleset in your head you're going to miss clarifications and combinations that appear in other places. I reference the rules on cover regularly; I still mess it up just as regularly.
So this combination of rules means that the only case when soft cover doesn't protect against an AoO is when the soft cover is in a corner position?
I.e.
CF
P
F represents the foe, P represents the Pathfinder, and C represent either walls (a physical corner that provides cover) or a creature (that thus provides soft cover).
When F is threatening around a physical corner (walls), P has protection from AoOs. When F is threatening around a creature in that corner position, P does not have protection from AoOs. In every other case, whether melee or ranged, soft cover provides protection from AoOs.
Does that sound right?

@GM - I fixed my profile on the range for bombs. It's 20'. I must have initially put 10' for a typically thrown flask. Also note that I have the feat "Splash Weapon Mastery" which gives me Far Shot among other things so range penalties are halved.

Tarka, I want to apologize for this:
Tarka, please start using your Tarka profile to post, and update that header! I've asked for this too many times now. PM me if you still need help; I will help you get this done, but I no longer have patience on this point!
It was uncalled for. It was a stressful workday, and I lashed out. That's no excuse, and you didn't deserve it. I'm sorry.
Thank you for getting it done; I'm sorry I lashed out.

GM Zin, I think this is absolutely true. At least, that's how I've always played (and GMed).
I hope once again that I haven't made an already difficult day more difficult for you.
Thank you .)

It’s fine. Sorry I spent a few days alway from the game; it’s been a busy, and stressful weekend, here. But! I’m back!

GM Zin |

Hmm, I suppose a concentration check is fair to assume. But technically he could just take the AoO and proceed. I'll be more explicit next time. As for the ability: the kineticist class specifies Constitution for wild talents.
There are two potential Concentration checks in play. There's the "Casting Defensively" Concentration check (to avoid the AoO entirely), which I would never bot for a player; it's your choice to attempt that or not. This was the "Injury" Concentration check to not lose the spell(-like ability) after taking damage while casting; that one I can bot if it's called for (and did so here).

GM Zin |

Correct; you fired the blast from 5' away. The blast is a spell-like ability, so it triggers an AoO just like casting a spell would. The damage caused by the AoO triggered the Concentration check.

GM Zin |

Okay, that's it folks!
Please double-check the Recruitment thread to confirm that you entered your chronicle information and that it's accurate. If you have any questions about faction goals for your journal cards, feel free to ask away!
I'll get the game reported and work up chronicle sheets in the next couple of days; thanks everyone for playing!

![]() |

I’ll update tomorrow info is on my laptop at work. That was actually a lot of fun thank you for running it and it was super interesting to have a hard timeline to deal with.

GM Zin |

Oh hey; I forgot about boons!
Everyone can roll a d20; if you roll 19-20, roll a d3 to determine what boon you win, and PM me your email address so that Paizo can deliver the boon to you!
Player Boon #1: Season Explorer 4-5
Player Boon #2: Aeon Investigator
Player Boon #3: Season Explorer 8-9
GMs roll for boons too!: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Oops! DEfintiely sorry

GM Zin |

In this my first time completing a PFS scenario here. How do we receive the chronicle sheet? By email or at the messages system in Paizo?
When I have them completed, I will post a link to the pdfs which will be hosted on my Google Drive.
Yours is the last PC that I need Chronicle info for; please click on "Recruitment" above and fill out the requested info so I can report the game and fill out your chronicle sheet.

![]() |

Thanks for the clarification. I have added the information you requested. It is a copy of what I wrote above on that section in September, with the chronicle number and prestige points fixed as explained in other messages. The day job roll is a copy of the roll from 7 September that you can find on that section Thanks!

GM Zin |

Oh, sorry!
I just quickly scrolled through looking for your character icon; I didn't connect the sergio icon to Seltyiel at a glance. I'm actually missing Leowarin, which makes sense; Leo joined late.

No problem. In this way I have updated the initial information with the two changes so that you would not have to navigate and remember messages written two months ago :-)

GM Zin |

Okay, the game has been reported!
I'll be working on Chronicle sheets today; I'll post a link here when they're up.

GM Zin |

Nope! Unconscious is a not a condition you need to clear. Tarka's just fine.

GM Zin |

Sorry; I've low-key been waiting for Leo to report back with his chronicle info so I can do them all in a batch. I'll work on them today.
