DM Meleager's Skull & Shackles

Game Master Patrickthekid

Everyone welcome to the official Skull & Shackles recruitment thread. Unfortunately, the recruitment happened in a different thread. This one is here so I can get the people I've chosen together to discuss things. There should be six of you here in this thread, but I have one more person to introduce. The username Hayato Ken will be here as Pai Song, a sylph crossblooded, wildblooded sorcerer.

Now go ahead and introduce yourselves.

Happy to be here and looking forward to our voyages!

Mama Mambo ready to serve you for dinner!

Ready to show the warm-landers how a real Viking raids!

Hi, I hope to have an alias for Djir up tomorrow sometime...

Scarab Sages

Need that dinner or some warm-landers fried? Look no further, i'm here to help!

Hello there, nice to meet you and looking forward to play with you!
Only crossblooded and planning to go into arcanist aeromancer btw.

This looks potentially profitable...

I just went ahead and rushed into the Discussion headfirst earlier today!

Nice to be here! Hope sergeant Reknar does not bother you guys too much with his bad temper and tendency to spout orders. He can be… Inspiring though :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm bumping this because we are in need of new recruits for the campaign. I'm looking for probably 2 people for our campaign. Who we have active right now is:

Djir Bentwhisker - ratfolk rogue/wizard
Lucille de Avrois - human oracle of battle
Torin Brimfisher - half-elf barbarian

We also have a sylph sorceror/wizard and a human monk, but I haven't been able to reach either of them on if they would like to continue.

Try to change the title to remove (Closed). I only ended in this thread by a miss-click, wanting to click on neighbouring thread. "(Closed)" told me all done, don't bother looking here.

I'm interested. I have some questions though. How many points would we be building on? Any restrictions for Classes, races, and/or alignment we should know about? Oh, what level would we be coming in at?

Similar questions, but also how would we be entering into the story?

Perhaps an alchemist?

You will be at level 3 and it will be at a 25 point buy. Anything Paizo legal will be allowed, though the unchained classes will be recommended. You will create your characters under Background Skills and Feat Tax rules. Your HP will start with max health followed by the average hp+1. There isn't any alignment restrictions, but remember what kind of AP this is and to discourage and PvP.

Here's my sad gay S&S boy, I'll update him for consideration

Also, the characters will start trapped in Bonewrack Isle.

Elizabeth Ardoc ready for service.

I've made a Tengu Wind Shaman. Never played either a Tengu OR a Shaman before and figured it might be fun, but different enough from the Oracle you've got so it didn't overstep too much.

I went with average starting gold, and average hitpoints for levels 2 and 3. I can correct that if that's not the right away to go.

"You think something is wrong with Ularrka. Ularkka talks to the air, even when no others are about. Ularkka argues with the winds! You do not know the winds as Ularrka does.

They mutter, they howl, they can be playful, they can be cruel. They are the only things keeping the great ships moving when the sea currents are still. Ularrka knows.

Perhaps Ularrka never should have asked the old one to teach how to talk to the winds. Now everyone thinks Ularrka is mad. But Ularrka wanted to be different, to be special. Ularrka wanted life to be an adventure. Ularrka did not wish to settle for working in wood and bloody surgery like his father no no.

Ularrka was a very foolish youth. But lessons were asked for, lessons given, and Ularrka nearly died being shown how to talk to the winds, how to have them talk back Still, at least Ularrka has Bonaria. Now, Ularrka travels with Bonaira, helping others with the winds , and helping Ularkka even more.

Some times journey's end. Has Ularrka's? Wait. Watch. See."

Our Monk player has left as well. I will also set a deadline of April 30th for entries.

I've got to ask because I have a concept that it might fit...

Would you allow the Far Strike Monk archetype from the Unchained Monk Archetypes from Purple Duck?

Far Strike Monk (Unchained Monk archetype from Purple Duck:
Far Strike Monk
Far strike monks are masters of thrown weapons, from shuriken to throwing axes to spears. The far strike school views thrown attacks as an extension of unarmed strikes, and masters of this school can infuse thrown weapons with their ki.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: In addition to the standard monk weapon proficiencies, a far strike monk is proficient with all weapons in the thrown weapon group. See the fighter's weapon training class feature for the definition of weapon groups.

Flurry of Blows (Ex): A far strike monk can make a flurry of blows as a full-attack action as long as she's attacking with thrown weapons. She can't make a flurry of blows with her unarmed attacks or any other weapons. A far strike monk's flurry of blows otherwise functions as the standard monk class feature. A far strike monk can't use Rapid Shot when making a flurry of blows with a thrown weapon. This ability alters flurry of blows.

Bonus Feats: A far strike monk adds the following feats to her list of bonus feats at 1st level: Far Shot, Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, and any targeting feat. At 6th level, she adds the following feats: Improved Precise Shot, Parting Shot, and Trick Shooter. At 10th level, she adds the following feats: Improvised Weapon Mastery and Pinpoint Targeting.

Fast Thrower: At 1st level, a far strike monk gains Quick Draw as a bonus feat, even if she doesn't meet the prerequisites. At 4th level, she gains Shot on the Run as a bonus feat, even if she doesn't meet the prerequisites. At 8th level, when using the Shot on the Run feat, she can make a second ranged attack with a –5 penalty at any point during her movement. At 15th level, she can make a third ranged attack with a –10 penalty at any point during her movement. This ability replaces stunning fist.

Invisible Blade (Ex): At 3rd level, when a far strike monk uses the Stealth skill to maintain her obscured location after sniping, she takes a –10 penalty on her Stealth check instead of –20. This ability replaces still mind.

Ki Pool (Su): At 4th level, in addition to the normal abilities of her ki pool, a far strike monk can spend 1 point from her ki pool to increase the range increment of a thrown weapon by 20 feet for 1 round.

Ki Missile (Su): At 5th level, a far strike monk can change the base damage dice of thrown weapons to that of her unarmed strikes. These weapons are also treated as ki focus weapons, allowing the monk to apply her special ki attacks to her thrown weapons as if they were unarmed strikes. This ability replaces the style strike gained at level 5.

Trick Throw (Su): At 9th level, a far strike monk can infuse her thrown weapons with ki to hit targets that she might otherwise miss. By spending 1 point from her ki pool as a swift action, the far strike monk can ignore concealment. By spending 2 points, she can ignore total concealment or cover. By spending 3 points, she can ignore total cover, even throwing weapons around corners. The weapon must still be able to reach the target; for instance, a target inside a closed building with no open doors or windows cannot be attacked using Trick Throw. These effects last for 1 round. For every 4 levels after level 9, the ki cost of each trick throw is reduced by one, to a minimum of zero. At level 15, using this ability becomes a free action. This ability replaces the level 9, 13, 15 and 17 style strike abilities.

I will have to decline to add any third-party content into the game.

Not a problem. :) (In case it makes a difference, it is just a redo of the non-Unchained monk archetype to fit the UC Monk. :)

Oracle player here, yeah, that shaman will be very different. Lucille is a buff bot wades into melee person.

I'd like to submit Kaidis Tamani, a human abjurer wizard.

I skipped over a few things like equipment and writing out the skill bonuses. I used a much higher level wizard's character sheet as a template...hopefully I didn't leave any remaining numbers over-inflated.

Not really a background:
I came up with this a while ago to explain how Kaidis ended up getting press-ganged
-----------------------------------
Pretending to be a ruffian is not a labor for the faint of heart, Kaidis Tamani decided. He was lying on his table at the side of the bar, nursing a mug of ale that wasn't nearly full enough to get him drunk.

His current problem was Marise. Mardis? Marideth? The tavern wench moved purposefully through the crowded tavern toward him like a stalking cat, a stern expression marring the woman's otherwise handsome features as she maneuvered toward her prey. The crux of the problem was to obtain what he wanted without giving her what she wanted. His plan had gone well up to this point, but he hadn't worked out a solution for that part of the equation yet.

"I thought I told you never to come back here, Kaidis," she growled at him, staring sternly at his slumped-over form. "How did you get that ale? No one here would serve you after what you pulled."

Kaidis pushed himself upright in his seat, adding an extra sway to the motion. He sorely missed the rest of the drink. It was rather hard, he had learned, to pretend to be drunk. The real thing was much easier. He looked at Maren. "Nonsense! My dear, we both know you didn't mean it. If I never returned, how would I pay you back?"

Mesira glared down at him through narrowed eyes, "We both know you have no intention of doing that, Kaidis. You couldn't make a coin if you tried. You've nothing to your name and now you owe me even more."

Does her name even start with an "M"? What has her feathers so ruffled, I wonder? It was hard to believe that he had found her beautiful once. Her face was too wide and the sides of her eyes too weathered. He must have missed that the other night, though. She'd seemed so much more beautiful to him...when....

Oh...right...

"Now hold on just a minute," he objected with an exaggerated movement. He raised the mug of ale to block her face from his line of vision for a blissful moment and tapped it heavily with the fingers of his other hand. The mostly hollow sound it made nearly broke his heart. "This thing here isn't mine. It's his," Kaidis gestured broadly in the direction of a pirate who laid slumped over on his table asleep. Probably asleep. He took an exaggerated drink off the mug while attempting to smile at Berlinda at the same time, which mostly caused the ale to run over his face instead of into his mouth. He wiped the liquid off his face with his sleeve. "I don't owe you anything for this. I owe him." He accentuated the "him" with an added point of the finger.

Belise was smiling at him. Kaidis's time was limited.

"So you see, although I do not currently have the money with which to repay you, I must ask you for the return of my book. I've come up with a wonderful plan to earn the money I owe, plus a little extra! But I must have my book if I am to have any chance of success. If you could retrieve it for me, I would be greatly obliged."

Obliged? Really? How are you supposed to sound like a pirate that way?

Besmiria was still smiling at him, but her face was strained now. He could actually hear her teeth grinding together. That can't possibly be healthy for her. What kind of hygiene do pirates use? Is that what I'm missing?

As if on cue, a pair of meaty hands clamped down on Kaidis's shoulders and lifted him from his seat.

Whew. Thanks. Glad Ularkka wouldn't step on Lucille's toes.

DM, what is your call on Weapon Finesse as if it "augments" Unarmed Strike for a Monk?

I ask, because if so, would it therefore allow Finesse for any Monk Weapon used for the Ascetic Style feat? I'm wondering if it would allow for Finessing a Quarterstaff if I took Ascetic Style (Quarterstaff).

I've seen arguments for both ways (Yes, it augments and therefor allows for finesse with the chosen weapon. And No, it doesn't)

Lucille is also, well, she talks with her shadow, and her shadow manifests (dipped into fractured mind) and fights besides her. I wont have level 2 spells until level 5, so an actual divine full caster is great.

Reminder that you have until the end of Monday to submit a profile.

Lucille- Well, I don't picture Ularkka as a healbot only but he can adapt to provide more in that area If it's needed. And ah.. he does tend to refer to himself in the first person and talk to the wind so he won't judge ;)

DM Meleager- Ridge here, this is the actual profile. Not too many Tengu avatars to pick from :)

I have made my decision.

Ularrka, please make your way to the discussion board.

Have fun!
