John 'Snake-Eyes' Maverick |
John and Eunice, did we lose you two?
no. Well, sorta :) I'll try to come back! I haven't forgotten, just couldn't make it lately.
Nempura Babblebrook |
Well, if you could, just let us know if your life is all-consuming for a spell. We'd love to have you. Do you mind if we continue the story while you are MIA?
Eunice Flint |
My apologies; I thought I'd posted here before I left. My wife's parents are both ill and we've been dealing with hospital stuff and trying to get them set up in long-term care. I'll be out of town for several more days, should return late Friday. I do finally have a laptop with me though so will try to get back in the swing.
Again, sorry for the disappearance.
Wes Higgins |
I'm entering a busy period at work that may keep me tied up until February 12 (Super Bowl Sunday). I'll still try to check in and post, but I can't guarantee I'll make a consistent appearance. Please feel free to bot me.
Myrandya |
I didn't think we could ready combat actions until we have rolled initiative and are in combat? That recently came up in another game, and the GM made a good point that if anyone could ready actions outside of combat, everyone would constantly have readied actions at the start of combat, including the bad guys. :)
Nempura Babblebrook |
They didn't seem bothered to try to roll perception against her, or if they did, they must have failed. Meaning she is given a surprise round, so she is in initiative and in combat before them. That was my thoughts anyway. They chose to go to combat, so she is taking her surprise round to act.
John 'Snake-Eyes' Maverick |
I think you should bring in new, more active blood. I'm starting house renovations and as I see it now, I won't be able to bring in more than one post per week.
Wes Higgins |
Good luck with the house renovations! To be honest, we've been pretty slow with the pacing, but defer to your judgment on continuing, Maverick.
Wes Higgins |
I’m game for two more. Seems like we could continue to pull from some of the previous applicants—I thought there were many quality submissions for this game.
Wes Higgins |
@GM SuperTumbler--how much do the traits matter to your version of this Adventure Path? I overlap with Myrandya with the Time Lost trait, and would be happy to try out Scion of Legend instead. Just throwing it out there.
Pan Pan Tsang |
Thanks for the selection!
Myrandya |
Velkommen, new players! I am looking forward to you joining us and I hope you don't find Myrandya's "accent" too annoying.
Isabella Roja |
Thanks for the invite GM SuperTumbler and thanks for the warm welcomes, all. I look forward to playing with y'all. Myrandya, no need to apologize, I've been known to use an accent or two.
I've read all but the last couple of posts in game, so very excited to join in. GM ST (I hope you don't mind if we abbreviate that, my spellcheck doesn't automatically add the 'upertumbler' to GM S) it feels like 'Red' and Pan Pan have fairly diverse backgrounds, I'll be curious to see how you integrate us into the present situation.
Edit:Tweaking gear a little and I forgot the Hit dice roll, Interesting method by the way.
2nd lvl: 1d5 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
3rd lvl: 1d5 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Pan Pan Tsang |
Yay, now I get to spend 3000 gp! (haven't bought equipment yet...) And I see I also forgot to add background skills. I'll clean that up today.
Let the fun begin.
Pan Pan Tsang |
@GM ST, will Pan Pan and Isabella receive a Market roll?
Pan Pan Tsang |
Unless GM ST has a better plan for introducing our characters, I offer that Pan Pan and Isabella are riding together west from Ravenmoor on the south side of the river. We happen to pass through a section of the Churlwood that puts us within earshot of the sound of gunfire...
Pan Pan Tsang |
Pan Pan and Isabella can have a Market roll.
I think it is easiest that Pan Pan and Isabella know each other and are travelling together.
You could be nearby and hear the gunfire. Maybe you were hired to find the missing dwarves?
Or Nempura had a hook for bringing you in.
The railroad, yes. Pan Pan could have followed the railroad west after leaving Kaer Maga. Her flight from Korvosa has spanned almost a decade; likely her travels have at times been exciting and other times very dull.
I'm happy with coincidence. We heard gunfire and guide our mounts deeper into the forest to investigate, relying on the keen ears of the horses to sense imminent threats. Up ahead, we spy a clearing, and a hanging tree with three bodies. A small mixed group appears to have recently dealt with something unseen. What do we do?
Nempura Babblebrook |
Just voicing my opinion, but I would prefer if people had been contacted by Nempura and relayed to our location by the sheriff as then you already have an occupational reason for being there and aren't just strangers but hired guns; possibly even deputized already. That's just my preference, but feel free to take any option you so desire. It could also be that it is both Nempura's letter to your character as well as other reasons you are in the area.
Isabella Roja |
Just in case it's needed Market roll: 1d20 ⇒ 15
I'm happy to come into the game however the GM decides to put us in. But my preference would be that Roja is traveling alone, hearing the gunfire and joins the deputies.
Seeing the new form as literally a fresh start, he would have continued looking for Maria, figuring he would prove to her that he could change. In the past he'd told her he would 'turn over a new leaf' but always failed for one reason or another. This time he would 'earn a reputation' as being one of the 'good guys.' Thus, proving he could be a new person. Afterwards, he'd figure out how to go back to a 'male' body.
Stumbling on a group of deputies, what better way to 'prove' he'd change than by helping the law. Besides, most of the time he'd gotten in trouble was because of his reputation as 'Red Bill' As Isabella Roja he had no 'reputation' to stop him from being whatever he wanted.
Nempura, I know you like building hooks and I appreciate that, I really do, but I don't see it working with this character. If Nempura had a history with this character it would have been as 'Red' And the way I'm imagining him, he would not have been near the coast, but further north or east. As a wanted criminal I can't imagine anyone wanting him to help them. But even if by some way she'd sent a letter to 'Red,' after being changed to this 'clone' of an ancient woman, he would not have responded. He will not confide in anyone about the change, not well into getting to know them and possibly only after it had been revealed that he had died and 'reborn' as this 'clone' due to someone recognizing her.
I could see Roja' and Pan Pan traveling for a couple of days with the same 'wagon train' or some group of people for 'safety sake' but it sounds like were in the wilderness, in an untraveled area. I really do see the lonesome stranger trope applying to Roja, and as he explores this whole 'work with others for the common good' he'll begin to buy into it. But for now, he's keeping everything close to the vest and telling himself he's only doing the 'right thing' to prove to Maria that he can. While subconsciously he wants to be a 'good man' and prove to himself and his father he can turn over a new leaf.
Trust me, 'Roja' has all the reasons he needs to join the deputies.
Pan Pan Tsang |
I'm in favor of convenience. Nempura's ideas make this an easy transition. It's fine with me if Pan Pan and Isabella know of each other but don't really know each other.
GM SuperTumbler |
I wish we could have brought you in just a couple encounters ago. Could have been randomly on the ferry together.
There is a trade road here that runs through the Churlwood. It isn't completely untraveled, though most commerce comes by ship up the coast. That said, there are some settlements inland that use the road, lke the one the missing dwarves came from.
Let's just say you are travelling separately and hear the shooting. Respond however makes sense to you.
The road currently on the tactical map continues to the south through the wood, though in a less well maintained way.
Wes Higgins |
@Pan Pan—masterwork cold iron or silver waveblade will give you a piercing/slashing backup weapon when you need to avoid damage resistance.
Pan Pan Tsang |
Thanks Wes - good suggestion! I would otherwise have to wait to lvl 7 to get those with Pan Pan's unarmed strike.
Isabella Roja |
Her body is alluring and is accompanied by a beautiful dress and corset pair of whites, cyans, and gold filigree. The dress is very feminine and accents her curves, which makes them stand out but yet the dress itself is conservative. It may conjure images of a school teacher like dress--if the school teacher was alluring and was going to some fancier event. Nempura's hair is mostly reddish in appearance against her pale blue skin. The hair has a consistency of having been wettened and dried in a manner consistent with riding, but that doesn't track given the elf's large blue hat that would block the rain from falling upon it in normal cases, and it hasn't even rained today. Perhaps she had dipped her hair in the waters at some point that day and then had ridden?
I love the way you describe your characters features. I've been tentative with Isabella becuase she's a clone of Sorshen. Or so I've been led to believe.
Pan Pan Tsang |
I'll have Pan Pan's intro posted later this afternoon.

Yay!

Thanks! I am sure no one would recognize her, as she lived a long time ago (even in elven standards) and all of her reliefs were destroyed in Earthfall, right?

Theoretically the statue he saw. So generic descriptions based on the images we have. Tall, athletic, dark hair, olive skin, dark eyes, maybe green eyes. Red was short so I figure Roja his as tall or taller.
Pan Pan Tsang |
Sorry, I've been dragging my feet on equipment. Lots happening with the kids irl. I'll get to it this weekend and I've so far incorporated Wes' excellent suggestion into the story. I'll also get a stat and skill line added.
Pan Pan Tsang |
Also, GM, in what form or medium do you teach improv? I'm an old trumpet player.
Pan Pan Tsang |
I get that the Market roll was intended for 1st level characters, but at 3rd level a +1 magical weapon does not seem inappropriate to me. I would want to have one of my wave blades be a Cold Iron Wave Blade +1. 10% cost would be 401gp. The cold iron works with Pan Pan's back story and campaign trait. Please let me know. The weapon could have been a gift from her master or something she took from her family home after her parents were killed.
Isabella Roja |
Looks like we have a good group together here. Since our new recruits are people I've never played with, and the rest of us are still relatively new to each other, I thought I'd take a moment to reintroduce myself and the setting.
A couple of things that are perhaps unusual about me as a GM:
1. I tend to allow or even prefer a large amount of player world building. One of the many things I teach for a living is improv, so I'm a big believer in "yes, and." Obviously that can be a little tricky when we are adapting this setting to a different setting. We are all still feeling our way through that. But if you look back at some of Nempura's posts, for example, she created a lot of info about the gambling den/brothel where she was working, and I'm good with that. It makes my life easier and deepens your connections to the world. Also, I find it speeds up play (and I am such a slow poster that anything that speeds up play is good). You don't have to ask if there is a bush you can hide behind or whatever. If something is reasonable for the setting as described, just toss it in there. That said, try not to go too far and make up a conveniently placed elephant or box of dynamite.
2. One of my core beliefs as a GM is that player's characters tell you what adventures they want to play. So I'll be pouring over your character sheets to find opportunities to make your characters shine. Not that everything will be customized to you. I always think it is fun to have to come up with solutions that aren't what your character is best at. But if a character takes Ranged Disarm, and the whole campaign is creatures with natural weapons, or the character is an enchanter and the whole campaign is undead and robots, then that isn't going to be a great time. And if there is anything specific you want to do, feel free to tell me out of character.
You guys all have super interesting backstories, and I'll try to work with you to incorporate those into this published adventure, though some of them might be better for later plot hooks.
Looking forward to the adventure.
Hmmm, a lot to digest there.
As for who I've been in games with: I've crossed paths with Elliot, Therenger and Smooshie, and I'm presently in another game with Tazo. Hopefully anything positive has outweighed the negative. Sometimes I worry about that.
I like the 'yes and' approach to gaming for the peripheral things. When I play an AP I try to make sure any storytelling or world building will not interfere with 'canon.'
I enjoy building characters who's crunch fit's their fluff. I tend to use tropes and borrow aspects of characters from other mediums. Then as I play out the character, they become more three dimensional.
As for the backstories, it's a place for me to springboard from into the adventure. In this case, Red's emphasis has changed from searching for Maria to developing a reputation as Roja to prove he can be the kind of person Maria would want him to be. So, for our purposes he would not continue his search for her until the AP is over.
But if you would find it interesting to introduce Maria and explore Red's inner turmoil's to interacting with her, be my guest. But my general guideline for the boards is keeping everything PG and romance to an absolute minimum. So, I doubt if he would reveal his nature to her and would not actively romantically pursue her. Again, that's because of my preference in writing style here on the boards, not a reflection on the characters. Even if he's transformed back into his old self, he'd keep his distance until he feels he's proven he can stay sober and be one of the 'good guys.'
Anyway, looking forward to gaming with these characters in a Golarion Wild West
