Hi everyone! I'm sorry for the circumstances that led to my invitation, but I'm happy to join you and I'm bringing myself up to speed on your adventures so far.

Here's a summary of Myrandya's traits and contacts in Roderick's Cove:

• Accelerated Drinker: All her life, Myrandya has felt like she doesn't have enough time, because her father kept her locked in her chamber and put her to sleep when he was busy. So, upon awakening to food and drink, she taught herself to consume it as quickly as possible, so that she had more precious moments.

• Naive: Despite her father's attempts to teach her about the dangers of the world, she has never experienced trickery or betrayal firsthand.

• Precise Treatment: Myrandya has always suspected that her father has experience of other worlds and other eras, as many of his magical experiments involved reaching back and ahead in time. The practice of medicine he taught her has more to do with knowledge than purity of spirit, so she relies on her Intelligence when practicing the Heal skill.

• Time Lost: The disaster that separated her from her father had something to do with his experiments with time, but she has always felt that something is wrong with her chronological perceptions. This might be because she spent so much time under a magical sleep charm, but she often feels much older than she is.

None of these traits really tie Myrandya to Roderick's Cove, unfortunately, so let me draw upon what I wrote in her background to try and create some links between our characters?

• She knows Audrahni, of course, who was the first (barely) friendly face she encountered upon stumbling out of the wilderness. They have remained close enough that Myrandya visits her once a week or so.

• Myrandya also works with local law enforcement as a sort of unofficial coroner and medical examiner, mostly by her happening to be at the right place (the graveyard) at the right time. She isn't very well-liked, but she knows her stuff and has earned some grudging respect. Perhaps she and John know each other through those channels? It might be that Myrandya sometimes hangs out at saloons in hopes of seeing John and securing additional work from him. She could know Wes from there, too, maybe?

• Myrandya could know Nempura from either visiting Audrahni or occupying space at the saloon? I would imagine she would regard Nempura with awe and a little good-natured jealousy, since the elf's exotic appearance seems to garner admiration rather than scorn. If Myrandya isn't the alchemist that Nempura sometimes spends time with, Myrandya might not have a very high opinion of whoever it is, since they probably compete for the village's attention.

• She has a wild curiosity about Thassilonian ruins, since she knows her father had something to do with a confrontation with the Runelords and he taught her the language. It's likely that upon hearing about Eustice and her weird obsession from her relatives in town, Myrandya would seek her out. I doubt that meeting went very well though, since Eustice is so reserved and reclusive and while Myrandya is dynamic and talkative she is very difficult to understand and looks like a demon child.

A couple of thoughts on rolls:

Usually for Knowledge rolls I would say just use one roll to know about something and all of your knowledges apply. This is mostly to make your lives and posting easier. If you want to roll like Nempura did that's fine, but I'm happy taking one roll for all related knowledges.

This hasn't come up yet because we aren't working together, but I usually use a house rule for aid another where the people rolling take the highest roll and the lowest roll has to be a 15 to add the +2. I honestly have used this so much at this point that I forgot it was a house rule when doing this recruitment.

We can go either way with those, just wanted to throw them out there.

I'm fine with both rules-- though making the aid DC 15 is going to make Myrandya's familiar a lot less useful, at least at first. ;) But it is nice that we then don't have to specify who is rolling the check and who is aiding.

For Knowledges, maybe we should specify what Knowledges we have when we roll, so you can figure out what is applicable? For example, I could roll something like:

Knowledge: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 (+4 g/h; +6 a/d/l/na/p/r) +Flash of Insight: 1d6 ⇒ 4

I'm playing her as kind of scary to explain her 5 Charisma and lack of strong social skills. I expect that people who get to know her may know she's good-intentioned and loyal to her friends, but being a tiefling with scales and a tail I think she would be likely to encounter some prejudice.

Thanks for the civil interaction, honesty, clever ideas, and adaptability everyone. I love when a group of players can work together to solve a problem to everyone's satisfaction and I don't have to be the only adult in the room.


One of the reasons I chose this AP chapter to re-flavor as a western is the number of humanoid opponents. This first bit as written I'm going to change a bit and eliminate some of the more meaningless grinding encounters that don't advance the plot. I tend to do that with APs in pbp so the story moves at a slightly better pace.

If you need to make any preparations go ahead and do that. We will move out soon enough if you are all ready.


Sorry Tazo! Everyone but Wes got a 20 on our first attack. I imagine we're all going to be paying for that with the dice gods for the rest of the campaign!

Full disclosure: The way this house is written, the PCs are intended to encounter a variety of giant bugs and some bug swarms. Guns aren't going to be fun against swarms, and killing giant cockroaches doesn't really fit the genre we are going for or advance the plot, so I'm going to treat it more as a haunted house (which is also present in the original).

Yes, and while it may not say it on my sheet, while most combat days she will prepare the spells listed, today, given the location and its run down nature, she expected perhaps swarms and such and did prepare burning hands twice (instead of shield and shocking grasp); so it would be okay if we did run into them. I hope we don't though!


Struggling with some physical and mental health issues at the moment. I know you folks don't know me all that well. Just want to assure you of my good intent and ask for some forbearance. Sometimes these campaigns I'm running are a refuge and sometimes they stress me out. I'll do my best to keep things plodding along.

Sorry for the week long delay. In my day job, I am a high school theater teacher, so for 4 weeks a year I have to work 12-14 hours a day to make a show happen. This last week that coincided with a terrible upper respiratory virus, not flue nor covid, RSV maybe. I've been working long hours and coming home to tumble into bed. One day I took off to sleep 20 hours and another I just slept on the couch because I couldn't make it upstairs. I appreciate your patience.

I too am often busy and/or find it hard to focus on writing out a post with some stuff going on at times. One thing I will do to help is open a notepad that I can access on my computer or phone if I just can't manage to get a post out. Google docs helps with that. Then when I have a moment, even if it's a couple of minutes in the bathroom, I will jot down a sentence or thought based on what I read, or for you as a GM, an outcome or ruling. Then it just makes the end post work so much easier as it slowly builds itself. That might help you, even with a foggy mind from sickness. Sometimes though, even for me, when I'm sick, there is no way I am up for anything. In that case, it's always just better to get some rest and as stated, thanks for letting us know what's going on.

Do folks have gold to spare for a CLW wand? After buying some more nonsense, I have 354.5 gold left to contribute.

Nempura has some gold to spare, though IC she most definitely would not want to spend it. After being hurt though, she may change her tune. The thing about Nempura is, she is trying to help the longevity of her family, but disaster keeps striking. It's like they are cursed. So she's desperately trying to make money (thus why she's in her current profession), so that she can save to start up a business. That means that most all money she will get from this campaign will be to that end. Only by finding magical items will she likely ever have wealth. At least, that's how I am intending to play her.

Myrandya doesn't have any of her starting gold left over, but she'll definitely contribute some of her share of the loot toward things that will help the party. A wand of CLW is a very good investment!
