Cayde Shadowstrider |

So, Cayde tended to operate outside the faction structure, ranging far from the city and hunting in the tunnels. He was beset by Zargonites and nearly killed, but as the killing blow was landing, a Magi faction spellcaster from the shadows cast Polymorph on him, turning him into a fearsome beast (and giving him a bunch of new hit points), so he ripped apart the Zargonites.
This was the beginning of his Beast Rage powers, but he has a deep hatred for the Zargonites now and distrusts the Magi, as he suspects them of manipulating him. As far as the other two factions go, the Maidens aren't really his speed, at the Gorm dudes are pretty rigid for a chaotic good barbarian. Still, he would work with any of the three against the Zargonites, especially if a Maiden wasn't too misandrist or a Gormite wasn't too rigid...
And yes, a shared backstory would be very cool, especially if Cayde met you looking to find people willing to fight against the Zargonites after his bad experience...

Tekumbray Forsythe Cobblepot |

Seems like Cayde being somewhat aloof from the factions could make him a good fit to join the new outside arrivals while the Magi and Brotherhood members will naturally be there to keep an eye on each other as well as us outsiders.

Cayde Shadowstrider |

To be fair, Jubal, Cayde distrusts the one mage hiding in the shadows that used him to fight the Zargonites. Could have been a magi faction guy, then again maybe not. Also, could have been a Magi setup and a total manipulation to sacrifice Cayde to fight the Zargonites, or it could have been a kind-hearted magic user casting a last-second spell to save Cayde's life from a Zargon cultist ambush that the Magi just happened to see at the crucial moment...
Lots that Cayde doesn't know, but the Magi by reputation can be quite manipulative. He will likely be resistant to join any faction immediately, so joining up with some open-minded adventurers would certainly appeal to him.

Gorn. Proper Noun. Old Cynidicea: To be as close to Gorm as one would be as a son to the father.
'Of course they don't listen to me. They never do,' thought Gorn as he trudged through the underlair halls, heading away from the council chambers. He silently chewed his bottom lip, as he would often do when flustered.
He had made the mistake of laying out a treatise. It was simple, or, leastwise, simple when compared to the Code of Gorm that all of his kind followed. That was, alas, a low bar, but we get ahead of ourselves.
Gorn stated, simply, that he didn't see why, when the Surface, May it stand forever in the sun, once retaken, couldn't be shared by all three Factions of Righteousness.
Does not the Conversion of Ashlantha prove that, given an open and parliamentary system, the greater share of the peoples of Cynidicea would chose the sacred Brotherhood? Why demand the lion's share of power when true assimilation would be theirs in a few generations' time?
He knew he had allies, but too few. Too few! He had no doubt that, given time, and peace, he would be able to sway more, even perhaps old Mikalai himself!
But time was always short, and peace, too, in ever-dwindling supply. Who knows what new terrors the Zargonites are dreaming up? Or what fresh promises the Magi are speaking with cheap words today, only to break tomorrow?
Something must change.

@DM: Being level 3, do we have greater resources? I'd like to upgrade at least to Studded Leather, if that is okay.
It's been openly admitted that the creators of 5E didn't limit metal armor to druids as a game-balance thing, but more to pay homage to the roots. This seems to have been echoed in Baldur's Gate EE which lets druids wear any armor.
So too, a wide-ranging solution to this has been the availability of alternative materials, Ironwood and the like, that can be used in crafting Medium Armor, which druids have proficiency in, but, barring Hide armor, are not able to use.
Hence it's usually a matter of Scale mail, or somesuch, can be had for a druid, but it will cost X% more, as it must needs be made of Ironwood, or Hydra hide, etc.
(Heh, yes, I have some Hydrahyde gloves, and they're AMAZING! =)

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

Sure on the resources. Each of the newbies can have 500 gp worth of gear from the PHB on top of their starting equipment.
As far as the armor goes, I am very much a grognard and hold to the no metal thing for druids. That being said, here's my proposed compromise: You can have beetle carapace armor that in all other ways mimics studded leather but avoids that whole metal thing that digs at things that have been ingrained into my mind since the early 80s. Fair enough?
If Cayde, Gorn, and Emenius are ready to go (after spending that 500 gp, of course) we'll get back underway.
Please let me know when you are ready. (That goes for the existing players too.)

Emenius |

How much for scrolls? 1st level and 2nd level?
Otherwise, Emenius is ready to go!

Emenius |

Sell starting equipment for full or half?
Nevermind.
And, I'm leaving on a business trip early Wednesday and returning late Friday. Posting will be difficult

This is of course very fair.
With that having been said.... =]
I, also, know of these things. However, there are a great many RPG systems that have taken this tact and have injected creativity into it.
Consider for example EarthDawn.
Know you of EarthDawn? FASA, who made Shadowrun, made a D&D competitor, and they brought their trademark thinking with them. The rules were overly complicated, but still playable, and had some fresh takes that were quite fun.
Something they played with was alternative armor. A couple were like "how do you do cyber without tech?" It turns out they made living crystal that grows into the skin of the wearer. Intense!
Of course they also did a few other versions of not-metal armor, such as Fernweave, the armor you need to water, and crystal ring, which is made of living crystal that you need to be nice to.
Anyway, I'm saying that if other lines of thought are needed, well, I really like to be creative.
How about a story....
The Bonehelm Beetle stalked terror and death along the northeastern corridor for decades. Many a brave warrior that had too much youth and too little wisdom went hunting a name for himself, and found naught but an early grave in the beetle's massive maw. Only when Blenva, elder sister of Haria ran off with Vlodd, a nephew of no less than Mikalai's father, and their young bodies were found broken and headless in a pile of beetle dung, was peace found long enough to make war on a foe that, for the nonce, took precedence over the Zarganites.
Twice a dozen Sons of Gorm joined with a full score of Maidens and together they dove straight in to the Bonehelm lair. Only half returned.
They did not return empty handed. They divided evenly the spoils of the lair, and the Maidens off-handedly allowed the menfolk to retain the corpse. It would prove the richest find.
Through long hours of hard work the chitinous plates of the thing were worked apart to be given over to the high art of both tailor and smith. After knocking holes in the plates with pick and chisel, rough cord and heavy thread could be used to bind the resulting work into armor tough as any ore mined above or below the surface.
Although most of the suits made in that time were lost, to wear, or fire, or gnoll savagery, some few still exist, and they are guarded most jealously by those families which pass them from father's hands to son's shoulders.
The Steelbreaker clan is one such family.
Heh. That was fun. I'm just saying that if there were such a thing as Scale mail that was made from the under-belly carapace of the Bonehelm Beetle, and passed down generations, well, that would be a very cool thing. =]

Cayde Shadowstrider |

Cayde's additional equipment will likely be whatever he scavenged from those Zargonites who attacked him. Any chance one of them had a magic weapon of some kind (in lieu of the 500 gp extra equipment)?

Cayde Shadowstrider |

Sure. Either Moon-Touched or a simple +1.
Perfect! Let’s say the Zargonite group who ambushed Cayde was led by a cultist who liked to mine in the deep tunnels, so Cayde’s spoils of war from that encounter was a +1 War Pick.
Cayde should now be ready to go!

Can I have a Stone of good luck?
Yea or nay, I'm ready.

Can I have a Stone of good luck?
Yea or nay, I'm ready.
In lieu of anything else from the 500 gp, sure.

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

Can the three new comers PM a good email address to send a Roll20 invite to? Thanks.

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

Traveling until Thursday, but will try get things going if I can. Still need a Roll20 email address from Gorn.

Emenius |

Emenius would add to the standard door opening procedure a Mage Hand to open the door from a distance.
Also, Emenius gets 3 languages. What would make appropriate choices?
cheers

Emenius |

Apologies all... a health scare and brief hospital stay had me lay low. Jumping back into it.
Woah! No apology necessary. Glad you're good.

Aethroduil: Glad you're okay and feeling better.
DM: I think I gained a bonus HP from my nat 20 on the death roll. So I'd be at 6HP. You never know it could make all the difference. :)

What’s the local custom for robbing tombs?
Asking for a friend.

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

Under normal circumstances it would be frowned upon, but given the Triad has reunited to attempt to stop Zargon, if something in a tomb can be of use it would be understandable.

Terribly sorry, but where is the link to the gameplay lore document with all the history and things?
I thought I just had it here and I was going to say something about the king, but now I can't find it. =/

Cayde Shadowstrider |

Cayde is not interested in the magical plate mail, but he would be happy to take the magic greatsword and let someone else use the +1 war pick if they need a one-handed weapon. He is also fine sticking with what he has if someone else really wants the greatsword...

Cayde Shadowstrider |

Thoughts on the Greatsword?

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

Update coming this evening. Yes, we will be entering another quick combat.

Cayde Shadowstrider |

Not often you get to work your character’s flaw directly into the post…he did wait for people to investigate first, though…

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

~5000 gp each, just on the gems and gold involved. Add their significance to the Cynideacian people, and they could be worth a fair bit more.

Perhaps the leaders of the factions, but to put the crowns in the hands of a particular faction could cause issues.

DM Talomyr - The Lost City |

Sorry about the delay. I'll update later this evening.

Cayde Shadowstrider |

Cayde is good with the original party members deciding the route, as he doesn’t know where they have been yet on this level.

Are they all In Thunderwave formation?

Cayde Shadowstrider |

They are tightly grouped, so an area effect spell could be very nice. Cayde is willing to charge in and take a round of hits while everyone else gets some hits in, but an area attack or turning would be a good opener before he rushes in.
