GM Valen |
This is a recruitment for a run of the adventure Pathfinder Society Intro: Year of Shattered Sanctuaries. This adventure is designed for levels 1-4. It has the following Scenario tags: Metaplot (Shattered Sanctuaries), Repeatable S
I have labeled this table as "NEWER PLAYERS PREFERRED", which means that initial seating is open to players that have either played fewer than 10 games via Play-by-Post (PbP) or fewer than 10 games of Pathfinder 2nd edition.
Start Date
I plan to start the table on Tuesday, February 22nd, provided I have at least four players at that time. If I do not have four players signed up at that time, then I will delay the start time until additional players have been recruited, most likely by invitation.
Game Expectations
Although I assume that most newer players on these boards have some understanding of the basic rules of the game and PbP conventions, I am happy to do my best to answer any questions you may have as well as offer tips and hints when I think it appropriate. Players that do not wish to address questions or concerns in this thread, or the Gameplay or Discussion threads before or during the game are welcome to send me a Private Message (PM).
Most of my PbP tables have a posting rate of a minimum of once per day during the business week and once over the weekends. I find that this rate helps encourage and maintain momentum and interest in the adventure. However, I am willing to alter that expectation to accommodate new players, which is why I am requesting that players provide a posting rate that they find comfortable committing to.
Based on responses, I will set the expected posting rate, realizing that this game may have a slower pace based on player experience and potential conflicts. I recognize that real life can "get in the way" of fun at times and I expect folks to occasionally be unavailable for a period of time. If I know that I will be unavailable for some reason for more than two days, I will post such. I request and expect all players to do the same.
Once a posting rate is set, I plan to "Bot" players, which means that I may post Skill checks, saves, or similar rolls for a PC for which I have no post after calling for a roll or that I will require a PC to take a Delay action if the PC in combat and has not posted within 48 hours of the start of their turn.
If you are a "newer player" and this game sounds like something you'd be interested in, please go ahead and post here with your responses to the following:

Knight of Yesterday |
Hello GM Valen, I am about a week old on the boards and never played PFS. This looks like a great opportunity to get some experience. I created a PFS account/alias and chose horizon hunters as my faction (I’m not sure what this means or it’s impact) Below is the information you requested except for day job.
PFS:
1) Character name: Corkin Cranberry (halfling)
2) PFS#-Character#: 2406003-2001
3) Character Class & Level: Ranger 1
4) Faction: Horizon Hunters
5) Day Job (with roll): I have to figure out what this is.
6 Any other downtime activities: ?
7) Describe your familiarity, if any, with Pathfinder 2nd edition: Played Fall of Plague Stone (rogue)
8) Describe your familiarity, if any, with PbP: About a week on the boards but no actual experience. If it helps, I’ve read Doomed Hero’s and Painlord’s guides. Also, I’ve poked about a bit and read some posts.
9) Anything unusual or fun about your PC that you think the GM or other players may like to know: All the Cranberry’s have red hair.
Also, I am in the process of building this PC, if I have any questions I’ll let you know.
The Vagrant |
1) Character name: Varia
2) PFS#-Character#: 2405625-2002
3) Character Class & Level: Swashbuckler 1
4) Faction: Horizon Hunters
5) Day Job (with roll): Not sure what this is.
6) Any other downtime activities: Drinking, gambling, and singing.
7) Describe your familiarity, if any, with Pathfinder 2nd edition: I have some familiarity with 1e, but almost none with 3e. Looking to remedy that!
8) Describe your familiarity, if any, with PbP: Been roleplaying with this format for about five or six years now, on and off, with different kinds of forums and mediums. Currently running a Dnd 4e game for a few friends, almost entirely off of text.
9) Anything unusual or fun about your PC that you think the GM or other players may like to know: Don't ask her how she lost her eye. Or, at least, ask her when there aren't any swords nearby.
I've pretty much just now figured out how to make a PFS character, so this is a big WIP, but I already have the build outlined.
Ebir |
1) Character name: Ebir Azarola
2) PFS#-Character#: 179284-2002
3) Character Class & Level: Champion 1 (Paladin Cause)
4) Faction: Radiant Oath
5) Day Job (with roll): none
6 Any other downtime activities: Prayer, training, discussion.
7) Describe your familiarity, if any, with Pathfinder 2nd edition: I have played a handful of scenarios at this point, including the GM side of things (Beginner Box + a homebrew adventure to learn the ropes with my live table)
8) Describe your familiarity, if any, with PbP: I have played PbP for several years by now, on these very boards.
9) Anything unusual or fun about your PC that you think the GM or other players may like to know: Ebir used to work as low-level security for a major criminal element in Magnimar. He got imprisoned for several years, where he was found by the Radiant Oath. He is currently attempting to make amends for his former life. He found his inspiration in the story of Ragathiel, and is currently praying to the former demon.
Details : Ebir will be your standard frontline boy. With focus on athletics for trips, grapples, intimidation, and cleaving people into multiple pieces with his bastard sword.
Varia, the Lucky |
And here's my ol' pirate. I actually had to uh, delete the old one, so this one's PFS ID is 2405625-2003 instead of 2002. I don't think that changes much, but I'd wanted to let you know.
Anyways, yeah, this is my girl, ready to do some combat shenanigans to purse dem sweet, sweet, style points. What's the point of winning if you don't do it with flair, after all?

Also, what skills can I use for day job rolls?

When in doubt, just grab your class' kit. That said though, you're a spellcaster, so your main repertoire should be your fancy tricks and all that.
Or at least I'd think so, unless there's some secret caster equipment tech I'm unaware of.

Pointy hat. Gives +2 to cool stat

You all seem to have plenty of experience with roleplaying, so adding some 2nd edition rules may come rather easily to you. I am, by no means, an expert, but I will do my best to point out/correct any errors I spot and to help you learn the rules as we go.
Organized Play adds a few other layers to rules, which can be found here in the on-line version of the guide.
For those of you new to the boards and/or PbP in general, let me welcome you. You will find on these boards and beyond a variety of Pathfinder Society games with different playstyles, different personalities, different posting expectations, and different posting conventions.
While I certainly hope that you enjoy playing at this table, I realize that my style is not for everyone and I encourage you try to out a few tables from other GMs before giving up on 2nd edition or PbP on these boards. It shouldn't take too long until you find GMs or players that make a good fit for the way you like to play (And, if you do find you like the game, consider possibly trying your hand as a GM in the future!)
Sales pitches aside, it looks like we are about ready to begin with five players, which is a good number.
7) Describe your familiarity, if any, with Pathfinder 2nd edition: Played Fall of Plague Stone (rogue)

The two guides for PbP you mentioned are great resources! Looks like you are already well on your way, but if you have any questions feel free to post them or send them via PM. As you can see, while most all of you are new to 2nd edition, there are players at this table with more PbP experience than I and I am sure they, too, will be happy to help.
Also an aside, I and all of my kids have red hair. It seems that nearly all of the genes in our pool are recessive.
So, I will get us all started shortly.

Purchasing options are pretty limited for a newly-minted PC. Looks like you have a good start with a means of healing and a way to deal more than one type of damage. The class kit provides some other Pathfinder basics, like rope and a way to make fire.
Some alchemist's fire or some way to deal area effect damage is also useful, if you can afford it, although your spell selection may have that covered.
While it is 1st edition and largely lists items unavailable in 2e (or, if they do exist, may differ mechanically or be unaffordable by 1st level PCs), you may find this article on Pathfinder Society starting equipment to be helpful in making equipment selections, if not now, then in the future. It references a lot of the "typical" circumstances you may encounter where the selection of items can make a difference.
