I think the full description of the Hounds/Pups is that they usually flee to a 90 degree angle, and starting them away and having them waste time and spread out by running away to allow PCs to shoot at them might actually help out a team with low healing (but they need cantrips to get through DR for most ranged weapons, I think, so maybe a wash).
GM Hmm |
I am on Wave 4... Which frankly will be awesome because rescuing Pathfinders will let my group have another ten minutes of healing after having had to deal with those Hounds of Tindalos.
Is there a back-up GM available? I am not feeling well, and am wondering if I could get a couple days of coverage for today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday.) My party is currently rescuing the Pathfinders from Mission 2, and once they do, they can heal for another ten minutes and fight dinosuars in Mission 3. They have 24 challenge points.
Also... they have already acheived the success condition on Mission 2 but I was giving them one last round to see if they could rescue the remaining Kyras.
GM Doug H |
"The PCs can take time to Treat Wounds, Refocus, or Repair equipment in between encounters."
I did not read this as limiting to a single "round" of those activities because there is no note about a limitation, and no explicit timebox. In the past I remember scenarios calling out "10 minutes" specifically when that is required. I even made a note to myself about this when reviewing Part 4 before it started.
Did I goof?
(We're on wave 3.)
GM Hmm |
Meh, if you are dealing with the dogs, having a party come in fully healed is important. Maybe I goofed up.
Still would like a backup GM if one is available.

I'll reach out to our backup; if they're not available, I can help for a day or two.

I'm not advocating for or against any particular interpretation, but I did read it as time to do one of those things. My rationale was that they are in the middle of an active event where it didn't make sense to take 90 minutes to heal everyone to full while the world actively breaks around them.
I don't think my table will make it to Wave 3, but if the direction is to give them an amount of time greater than 10 minutes, let me know, because they'd do Pups next.
GM Doug H |
Yeah, while I was trying to explain my reasoning, I think I done goofed.
Not the first time and won't be the last!!
Your 10-min interpretations makes more narrative sense; it is also a more engaging climax to the scenario. I agree it is likely correct.

I've been thinking the same.
Of course, would give them a reason to drink all of those potions they got!

Oddly enough, your party was at the exact same encounter I ran for GM Bret. Really good timing for that!
cmlobue |
My group should be finishing off the puppies in the next round, and then I will try to hustle them through mission 6 if we still need successes for the house.
Unfortunately, they haven't thought about the ovoid chamber, though they are trying to lure them into open spaces.
GM Doug H |
How are you guys running immunity from Ripping Gaze on crit success? Immunity to the effect, ot that pup's particular gaze? I think it should be the former as usually it's more specifically called out when it is the creature's particular aura.
Tyranius |
Noone at my table has crit succeeded yet but I was going to run it as immunity to the effect.
GM Bret |

I am also planning to run it as immunity to the effect, but I think the last hound will die before someone crit succeeds.
I probably should not have used the invisibility, but they are supposed to have an Int 16 and only one of the three was remaining. I had trouble imagining a circumstance where an entity that smart wouldn’t take that obvious defensive maneuver.
On the good side, no one is taking damage from the gaze during the time it is invisible.

@GM Doug,
Since it does not say immunity to this hound's gaze, I think it is properly immunity to Ripping Gaze.
This is a typical pattern for immunities.
Example:
Treat Wounds grants immunity to Treat Wounds for 1 hour, which Battle Medicine grants immunity to that person's battle medicine for 24 hours.
GM Doug H |
Right. That’s exactly how I tead it too Silbeg. Thanks!
GM Dennis |
That's how I ran it at our local con last weekend, too.
GM Doug H |
Ahh. it's explicitly covered in Temporary Immunity.
Some effects grant you immunity to the same effect for a set amount of time. If an effect grants you temporary immunity, repeated applications of that effect don’t affect you for as long as the temporary immunity lasts. Unless the effect says it applies only to a certain creature’s ability, it doesn’t matter who created the effect. For example, the blindness spell says, “The target is temporarily immune to blindness for 1 minute.” If anyone casts blindness on that creature again before 1 minute passes, the spell has no effect.
I had been looking at the Immunity rule instead of "Temporary Immunity." Silly me.

Phew, they made it through the hounds. Out of nearly all healing but mostly alive.

Frogger (18/58 HP) │ Wounded 1

I am working on Wave 5, which got started by GM Sedoriku while I was out of it! I have no idea now if I'll get to Wave 6 since I lost time while I was kind of out of it, but we'll see. We're 84% of the way there. Only 8 more successes needed. GMs, are you close to finishing another success?
GM Zoomba |
My crew are facing the hounds (pups). Definitely possible they'll pull it out and finish, but those dog's hit-and-run-and-teleport style is slowing down the party's ability to reach them fast.
GM Blake |
I just finished our second wave.
With my table's behavior, I don't expect a 3rd success from my table, even if I send them at the Arch.
GM Doug H |
Well be finishing the pups soon. They are not posing a threat to my party on this tier. We have combat for the next wave at the top of the order, so my table may “only” have 3 successes (which is fine— getting 3 means they completed the special).
cmlobue |
My table should finish off the pups in time. I can't imagine any way to complete a fourth wave unless they are willing to roll multiple rounds at once.
GM Silbeg |
Mine was able to disable the rifts!
The Eando Kline worshipers are happy!
Sort of sad that I won’t have time now to do the happy teleporting hasted hounds of fury.
GM Doug H |
Third success in but need to post in game and wrap up. We won't be attempting more as we would have to do combat back on wave 1.
GM Blake |
My table has the skills to finish but not the will to post more than once per 24 hours.

I hear that. I botted the same person three times during the pups of Tindalos fight, which cost them the time to try a fourth mission.
On the other hand, they did finish the pups, so we are now one success short of completion. Let's go!

Well done! I'm at work right now, but I'll post the conclusion when I get a chance.
GM Dennis |
Alright, found a few moments. You should all have a conclusion post from me on your tables! Thanks for your hard work, everyone. Don't forget to report your games using the info below.

I'm having trouble getting the reporting link to load, and will update you if that changes. In the meantime, you can still begin distributing chronicles and such.
GM Dennis |
Update: Link is working again, but the special isn't on the list yet. I've pinged the appropriate people about it, and am hopeful it will be updated by later today.
GM Fi |
Always was on the edge of my seat waiting for the percentages to go up everyday- and now this is... over. It will certainly feel empty. Then one more week of 'rest' before the start of Outpost!
Thank you very much NostalgiaCon organizer and House GM Dennis for this Special which let me experience my first as a GM :) It's been a blast!
It is nice to meet you all, everyone. Hope to see each other soon (in other special table?) in near future :D

Indeed, we will see the other half of the story very soon in Outpost!
GM Doug H |
I don't see it there yet. Can you let us know here when it is in the form, Dennis?
(I can also just send whoever the RPG Chronicles code).
GM Dennis |
Yeah, I'll keep checking and will ping here when it's updated.
PFS 2 GM ZD |
Unless I missed something, where is the reporting link for the scenario?
