Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Do we have two gunners? Let's fire all our forward arc and turret weapons at them.
Morvruul the Merchant |
"Don't we have two gunners?" Morvruul barks from the captain's chair. "Fire our forward arc and turret weapons at them!"
He then glares at Cha'mon Cha'mon and sneers, "Those are the orders of a true captain, which is why I am in this big chair and you are sitting over there. You only wish that you could conjure the strategic military genius that I now display. Sit back and maybe you can learn something about starship combat."
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas gives a small look back at Morvuul rubbing Cha'mon's face in the fact he's not captain and leans over to Rilynn, stating in a loud, clearly meant to be over heard tone, "Don't you find someone who can't take wins gracefully such a turn off? I especially hate it when they clearly rub it in."
Sturmvanger |
Sturmvanger would never admit it, but Morvruul is right about what needs to happen, at the moment.
He jumps into a seat and pulls up the control system for the forward laser cannon, leaving the coilgun to Rilynn. He knows how to use his strength and size to hit someone face-to-face but it's much different trying to hit something through the medium of digital controls, after all. He lets the computer aid him a bit, while he's at it.
Light Laser Cannon: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 1 = 20
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
What, how... how did Morvruul know what I was thinking. Is he a telepath? Did he somehow implant a device in my brain that can read my thoughts when I least expected it???
Turning around Cha'mon Cha'mon says, "Morvruul, just because you are sitting in a big chair doesn't suddenly make you an expert at anything. I suggest you press that big red button on the side of said chair labeled eject."
Rilynn Rae |
Rilynn turns to Seggas. "They do love to rub themselves, don't they?"
We're in bad shape if Rilynn is moving to gunner. Is that what we need?
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Yes, we want to fire as many weapon systems as we can every round.
Sturmvanger |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sorry...not Rilynn, Twila-5 should be using the main gun. I had not finished my coffee when I posted this morning.
Twila-5 |
Sorry for the delay. Kid stuff has taken up most of my day.
Twila-5 adjusts her aim on the turret's coilgun and takes aim at the enemy ship.
Coilgun: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 1 = 18
This roll includes one of the Pegasus's two +1 bonuses per round.
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 1) = 7
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Rilynn turns to Seggas. "They do love to rub themselves, don't they?"
We're in bad shape if Rilynn is moving to gunner. Is that what we need?
Seggas nods, "Swear for some of them it's all then think about. Hate to have to be around one of them."
phaeton_nz |
Both shots hit the River Rat. Sturmvanger brings down their forward shields and Twila's follow up scorches their hull (-7)
Their shot does 10 points of damage to your front arc, before shields.
--- Round 2 ---
River Rat:
engineering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
computers: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 initiative
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 evading if last, flyby if first
Rilynn Rae |
Engineering: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Divert Power to Restore Shields, +7 points back to the forward arc.
With Seggas' success at the Science station, Rilynn reroutes power to the foward shield arc of the Loreseeker. She knows this is a battle of attrition and every bit helps.
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
I don't think Twila-5's bonus to gunnery is correct. +11 is really high for a 1st level character.
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Piloting Initiative: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 1 = 26
Piloting Evade: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
Cha'mon Cha'mon, throws the Loreseeker in to a series of evasive maneuvers as the River Rat makes an aggressive vertical move in order to gain the upper hand.
I'll move the Loreseeker after you move the River Rat.
Morvruul the Merchant |
"You, dragonkin!" Morvruul shouts at Sturmvanger, "Send that rat packing!"
Intimidate to Demand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
+4 to next Gunnery check by Sturmvanger.
Twila-5 |
"Amusing chatter, ladies. Though it may end up encouraging them." Twila-5 punctuates her statement with another shot from the coilgun.
Coilgun: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 1 = 17
This roll includes one of the Pegasus's two +1 bonuses per round.
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 4) = 13
phaeton_nz |
The River Rat flies right over the top of you ((flyby)) firing it's forward weapon at your forward arc again. ((River Rat moved))
captain: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
gunnery: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 = 18 dam: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 3) = 9 (1s becomes 2s)
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon Cha'mon, keeps the Loreseeker right on the River Rat's tail as the ysoki's ship flies past.
The Loreseker has been moved.
Sturmvanger |
Sturmvanger is in no way afraid of Morvruul, though he has to admit there is something commanding about the man's order.
Despite himself, he finds that he is more focused and, even worse, wants to please the man.
Light Laser Cannon: 1d20 + 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 1 + 4 = 26
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
phaeton_nz |
Unfortunately Twila-5 misses (using what I believe is a corrected bonus of +5) but Sturmvanger burns through the aft shield and does another point of damage on them. (-8)
Round 3
River Rat
engineering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
computers: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 initiative
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 flip and burn or evading
Rilynn Rae |
Divert Power, Restore Shields: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 +7 points of shield to the forward arc.
"We're getting through on them. Keep pouring it on!"
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas, seemingly to have been skipped last round flips a switch on Miss Sci and has her route commands into the back-up engineering bay. She starts adding power to the weapons arrays.
For Round 2
Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
She gets some extra power flowing with ease, but as I just realized it does little to boost the already good damage rolls.
She tries again, just in case there's extra need for fire power.
Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
This time the pathways of Miss Sci already seem to have integrated with the engineering systems and with a squelch, pusles power to the gunner stations.
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Piloting: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 1 = 23
Cha'mon Cha'mon, stays on the offensive and goes for a flyby!
Piloting [Flyby): 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 1 + 1 = 21 Taking one of the ship's +1 bonuses and leaving one for the gunners.
Cha'mon Cha'mon, sends the Loreseeker zooming past the River Rat.
"We've got the opening, hit their aft quadrant again."
I flew a loop through the River Rat's hex and then back around.
phaeton_nz |
The River Rat executes a flip and burn so you are now facing bow to bow again.
captain: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
gunnery: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 = 25
Morvruul the Merchant |
"Android!" Morvruul shouts at Twila-5, "You had better destroy their hull or I will fill the ship's ammunition with your recycled scrap!"
Intimidate to Demand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
+4 to next Gunnery check by Twila-5.
Sturmvanger |
Clearly their opponents know that they won't last long if they leave their weaknesses exposed. But in starship combat, unless someone gets lucky or unlucky the fight is generally one of attrition. Very rarely does a ship get destroyed with full shields in one quadrant and none in another.
So, what matters at the moment, as what matters in any combat is...not missing.
Light Laser Cannon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 (1's become 2's)
I'll leave the +1 from the computer and the flyby attack to Twila-5. Does the bonus she gets from Morvruul apply to the flyby attack, meaning she can use it to hit the rear quadrant or does it only apply to the normal attack she gets to take this round?
Twila-5 |
Twila-5 is so startled by Morvruul's threat that she flinches, accidentally firing before taking aim.
Coilgun: 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 1 + 3 + 1 + 4 = 26
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 2) = 9
Includes her RANK in Piloting, her Dex modifier, +1 computer bonus, & Morvruul's +4 scary captain's bonus.
In reading the rules on flybys, it doesn't look like we get an extra attack. It just lets us zoom right by them to fire at close range without triggering an AOO, so to speak. Am I reading that right?
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
All our attacks this round go against he aft quadrant of the enemy ship because of the fly by since we are firing our weapons in our front and turret arcs. Twila-5, will get her normal +4 in addition to the +4 from Morvruul and the +1 from our ship's computer.
That's 15 points of damage because of the divert power to the weapon systems.
phaeton_nz |
And all that damage piles up on their hull .... guess who was unable to fix their shields. (-27)
ct: 1d100 ⇒ 91
ct: 1d100 ⇒ 36
Round 4
River Rat
engineering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
computers: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 initiative
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 some sort of stunt.
What's the status of the Loreseeker?
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
We've taken about 2 damage to the hull. We had 7 in the front shields in round 3, but you didn't roll damage for your attack so we still need to calculate that.
Piloting (Initiative): 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 1 = 16
Cha'mon Cha'mon, grits his teeth and sends the Loreseeker zooming straight at the River Rat in an extremely aggressive maneuver designed to keep the team on the offensive. Fly by
Piloting (Fly By): 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 1 + 1 = 20 I'm taking one of the ship's +1 bonuses for this action and leaving one for a gunner.
"We've got the angle on them again. Let those rats have it!'
We can fire on their aft quadrant again will both our attacks this round.
Rilynn Rae |
Seeing as this engagement is going well, Rilynn keeps doing what she's doing.
Divert Power, Restore Shields: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 +7 shield points to wherever they hit us last round
phaeton_nz |
((Whoops))
dam: 4d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 3) = 9
Twila-5 |
Well, the last shot was good, despite not thinking too hard about it, so Twila-5 decides to use the same tactic again. Relying on pure instinct, she allows her fingers to squeeze the trigger when they choose.
Coilgun: 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 + 3 + 1 = 18
Includes her RANK in Piloting, her Dex modifier, and +1 computer bonus.
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 3) = 13
Seggas Yakan, DVM DMD |
Seggas once again uses Miss Sci to push some extra power to the gunners.
Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
However, the console gives a small kalxon of pain as she integrates a little too much with the power grid and gets shocked for it. "Miss Sci! You're not supposed to reach that deep!"
phaeton_nz |
Well they had shields in the aft again but Twila-5's shot takes them out as well as damaging the hull. (-37)
ct: 1d100 ⇒ 13
They're not looking in great shape at the moment.
They fire back
captain: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
gunnery: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 - 2 = 13
damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 3) = 11
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
We've taken 6 points of hull damage. We have 7 shield points in our front quadrant and 0 in our aft now. Did you move them on the map? I'm assuming they shot us in the aft based on their current positioning.
Morvruul can still take his captain's action and Sturmvanger can take his shot with the light laser cannon.
phaeton_nz |
I thought I had but obviously not - basically they did a small circle and turned to face you so they can shoot you in the rear - fixed
Rilynn Rae |
Rilynn replenishes the depleted aft shield arc.
Divert Power, Restore Shields: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28 +7 shield pts to open shield
Sturmvanger |
Sturmvanger does what he can to keep their opponents off kilter and bring an end tot he fight.
Light Laser Cannon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
But his luck with the gun runs out.
Twila-5 |
Hopefully Twila-5's luck hasn't.
Coilgun: 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 3 + 1 = 11
Includes her RANK in Piloting, her Dex modifier, and +1 computer bonus.
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 3) = 11
It has. Disquiet blooms within her. Will they lose this battle just as they were about to end it?
Morvruul the Merchant |
"Open a channel!" Morvruul demands. With communications open, he warns, "You are too slow, Mr. Smiles. When we are through with you, you will either need a new moniker or face bankruptcy due to dental expenses!"
Intimidate to Taunt in Helm Phase: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
If successful (DC = 15 + 1½ × the enemy starship’s tier), each enemy character acting during the Helm phase takes a –2 penalty to all checks for rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 3
phaeton_nz |
Round 5
River Rat
engineering: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
computers: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
piloting: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 - 2 = 13 initiative
piloting: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 2 = 25 some sort of stunt.
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Piloting Initiative: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 1 = 18
The River Rat goes first.
I just realized your attack in round 4 missed since you rolled a 13 and our AC 14, so we now have full shields on all quadrants for round 5.
"Dental procedures??? I doubt you know anything about proper dental hygiene."
phaeton_nz |
The River Rat goes for another flyby and fires at your aft quadrant on the way past.
captain: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
gunnery: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 2 = 10
damage: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3) = 11
But it looks like they miss
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Cha'mon Cha'mon, throws the Loreseeker into a series of evasive maneuvers that end with the Starfinder's ship still right on the River Rat's tail.
Piloting (Evade): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
"Let them have it again gunners!"
Gunners can each take a +1 bonus and engineering can boost their attacks.
Sturmvanger |
As both their shots go wide, Sturmvanger wonders if the Starfinders' luck has turned. But a moment later, the River Rat misses, too so it just seems that the gods of accuracy have turned their attention elsewhere.
He does what he can to get them to pay attention, again.
Light Laser Cannon: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 1 = 16
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Twila-5 |
Ha! Cue conspiracy theory about pockets of dead zone in which no one can shoot anyone else! The inner smirk doesn't make it to Twila-5's face, but it lifts her mood as she fires again.
Coilgun: 1d20 + 1 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 3 + 1 = 9
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 3) = 12
...Apparently I'm still in the dead zone.
Cha'mon Cha'mon |
Twila-5's shot hit last round. She mistakenly rolled twice.
Rilynn Rae |
With the shields restored to max effectiveness, Rilynn juices the guns.
Divert Power, Weapons: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24 1s become 2s this round
phaeton_nz |
Which means Sturmvanger's shot adds another six points of damage to the River Rat's hull (-43)
ct: 1d100 ⇒ 78
Since that means that the River Rat's one and only weapon is malfunctioning, plus it looks like they're going to need a lot of duct tape to put their hull back together, they fire all thrusters and flee deeper into the asteroid field.
Even thr0ough the vacuum of space, you all swear you can hear Mr Smile's torrent of cursing as they head off.
You are then contacted by Ezra Silverbrew, a female dwarf, and the Society's liaison with the Silverbrew mining clan.
Nice flying, Starfinders. That ought to teach those skulking thieves to keep away from what isn’t theirs! Now then, as promised, we’ll send you the one chunk of the tablet they didn’t get their grubby little paws on. And after you get that, we get to sweep the station for any other 'surprises’ they might have left behind.
