The Dragon's Demand |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

After some time away from the boards, I’ve been looking to jump in some games and after some looking through my library found something I’d like to run without the commitment for years upon years so soon back.
I will be running The Dragon’s Demand. A fun classic module just long enough to get to some fun stuff. If it’s completed and we have a really good consistent core group then maybe we can continue with another printed book, or homebrew. But that’s something far beyond and not the scope of this recruitment.
For the recruitment I’ll be taking 4 people.
- Level 1 with a point buy of 15, with average starting wealth.
- Unchained classes where they apply, no occult classes since I’m am less familiar with them.
- Core races with alternate racial traits allowed.
- Max hp for first level, with +1 hp, + 1 skill point and favored class bonus.
- You get 2 traits and may take a drawback, but expect to roleplay it.
For backgrounds you may be as wild or as simple as you’d like. All that’s needed is that you all have the following thing. “You are not native to the town of Belhaim in northern Andorran, and you signed on to a Caravan owned by one Silas Gribb that has recently come to town. Upon arrival it’s been seized and he’s been arrested for smuggling.” The reason for why you came along and the purpose is yours to make up.
I will end recruitment the 29th of October, and will hope to have the decision of players made by the 1st of Nov hopefully starting play that same day if possible. For expectations I’d like to do a post a day with weekends optional, though more posts are fine and I’ll strive to accommodate them.

Thorfinn Feigrsson |

Also interested; in the interests of transparency I have to say that I'm currently running a Dragon's Demand game on the boards, and the players are into Part 3. I'll try not to metagame, though, and will reinforce that by playing Thorfinn Feigrsson, a young and clueless barbarian from the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. He had been captured by a slave ship and set to the oars before the vessel ran afoul of the Eagle Knights. Freed in Augustana with a handful of coin and only a vague idea of which direction to go to get home, the youth signed on to Gribb's caravan because it was going north. After Gribb's arrest (along with a lack of pay), Thorfinn is desperate for a job. He has no skills to speak of other than mayhem, though.

The Dragon's Demand |

1 I’m up for background skills, I think it’s never a bad thing to have more skills.
2 As for favored class, yes. You get all the bonuses, so every level you’d get the +1 hp, +1 skill point, and your classes favored class bonus.
As for everyone else, I saw your post look forward to your submissions!! @Thorfin, your fine. I trust you can keep things separate.

Linnea the Diviner |

Hmm, this sounds like fun! As it happens, I have an Andoren starsoul sorceress from a campaign that didn't get very far. Jenise made it out of the oppressive company town of Falcon's Hollow by means of her magic, and is now trying to support herself with mercenary work. Someday she plans to go back and pay off her mother's debts so that she can move somewhere better. Given that Jenise is barely scraping by right now, though, that day is still far away.
Her sheet will need some minor tweaks, so I'll have it ready in a bit.

Robert Henry |

Hey TDD, I hope you don't mind I used an abreviation "The Dragon's Demand," seems so demanding um, long. Welcome back and thanks for running the game.
I realize with a recruitment ending on the 29th you'll still probably get a lot more applicants. But presently we have potentially: Jace with a novice wizard, Thorfinn with a barbarian, Edward with several good questions and a fighter, JoshB with a taste for firearms and Linnea with a sorceress.
With a party of four and a point build of fifteen, focusing on filling needs would be helpful. It looks like they need someone who can cast divine spells or someone who can deal with traps.
While I'm in several games, I don't presently have a half elf ranger which happens to be one of my favorites in any games. You mentioned racial traits are allowed, are you also ok with all archetypes? I'm thinking the trapper ranger archetype so he can deal with traps as well as provide combat support as a switch hitter.
It would be simple enough to be hired as a guide and or guard for the caravan.

The Dragon's Demand |

Lol abbreviations are fine, I just wanted to make it easier remembering which alias was the one for the game.
All archetypes are allowed some may get some scrutiny, looking at you vivisectionist but as long as were all on the same page if things need to be adjusted, it’ll be fine. I may take more than 4 depending on difficulty of choosing. And to alleviate any possible drops that may happen. Though I’d love to get a really solid group together.

Chipluck |
I'll also throw in this rogue. Pretty vanilla halfling thief crunch-wise.
I would be playing the game to practice the hobby of creative writing more than practicing the hobby of Pathfinder, if that makes sense.
Basically going to be a smuggler in kahoots with Silas Gribb. For some reason, Silas got pinched but my rogue didn't and its making him paranoid.

Robert Henry |

Ok, we've got a few more folks interested, I'll go ahead and post an interest group. As it grows and people get finalized I'll break it up into more specific groups, TDD do you have a preferred grouping?
Posted interest:
Jace: wizard
Thorfinn: a barbarian
Edward: fighter
JoshB: a taste for firearms
Linnea: sorceress.
Robert Henry: Iradyiel madras Half elf Ranger (trapper archetype) I should get his crunch done this morning
Nightfiend: rogue
Archae: Necromancy focused type?
mishima: Chipluck halfling (unchained) rogue Hey Chipluck it looks like your a t a 16 pt buy, I'm assuming you meant str to be at 8 instead of 9?
If I've missed anyone or gotten anything wrong please let me know and I will adjust the list
Looks like we could still use a divine caster type.

The Dragon's Demand |

No no preference on grouping, I appreciate the list!
Seems interesting is starting to build, as for meeting all the class requirements. From reading, there’s ample chance to get allies that may cover what the party is missing. I’m also a believer in playing what you want, I can adjust a little if needed.

Thorfinn Feigrsson |

I've got Thorfinn updated, though I may do a bit of tweaking. Barbarians generally don't get a lot of use out of background skills, so I went with atmosphere: Profession (sailor), to reflect his time spent on a ship; and Perform (singing), to reflect the Ulfen tendency to deliver staves of alliterative poetry.

Nightfiend |

In the early days of his exile, Zuriel was hesitant to approach human cities in fear that he would stand out and be targeted. As time passed, through close observation, he realized that human cities embraced a wide variety of different races, cultures, and perspectives. This was a grand opportunity if ever he had seen one. From city to city he found the generosity of humans to be enduring and relentlessly gracious. Enough so that he had little trouble moving in and out of locations long enough to fill his pockets. Even during times that he thought his endeavors would land him in the stockade, he seemed to be able to simply explain his way out of it. In all, he determined that this new landscape of opportunity was virtually perfect.
Over the course of his travels, Zuriel ran into a couple problems when attempting to move from one city to another. Simply put, on more than one occasion, he came across dangerous foes that stalked easy prey that frequented the trails between his destinations. He considered paying for passage, but that would create a paper trail that anyone could follow. After careful consideration he signed on with a caravan owned by a man named Silas Gibbs, who originally hired him as a forward scout. Over time the caravan leader began to see Zuriel’s unique nature and was in the process of training him for something special. The training was cut short the day the caravan entered the town of Belhaim when the local magistrate seized the caravan’s wagons and arrested Mr. Gibbs for smuggling. SMOGGLING! Who knew! What a missed opportunity….
Description: Zuriel is a long, dark haired elf that stands 5’ 8” tall. He weighs in at approximately 135 lbs. and is believed to be 124 years old. He wears a dark-ash colored leather armor and carries an elven curved blade strapped to his back. Aside from the weapon, he also carries around a travelers pack with a tightly wound blanket strapped to it.
Personality: Zuriel is, if nothing else, an opportunist. He has spent most of his life capitalizing on any opportunity that presented itself. Unlike most his brethren, he tends to be non-judgmental and is easy to get along with. He is quick to jest and has little problem laughing at someone else’s misfortune. He genuinely believes that life should be enjoyed in the moment at all times. He doesn’t dwell on the past, nor does he plan for the future. He simply embraces the present for all that its worth.
Motivations: Zuriel is strongly motivated by any opportunity to increase his personal possessions. He believes that a person’s worth is measured by society by the depth of their pockets. Weather its gold, gems, or the most valued magical item, he generally tries to not let any opportunity pass him by.

Iradyiel Madras |

This is RH's Half Elf Ranger with the Trapper archetype. His background, personality and appearance are on the sheet, so I did not copy it here. With the fifteen point buy I did decide to do a 'drawback,' because every little bit helps, right? It's the drawback "Scarred" and it will be part of his personality effecting how he acts.
When I started to build him I was thinking about roles and a traditional four group party. So I leaned heavy toward Ranged attacks, the Trapper archetype focusing on perception and disable device, and finally all the other goodies that a ranger build brings. If the selection ends up including Iradyiel and another person who handles disable device, I will ask to change his archetype to Divine Marksman giving up the 'trapper' role and going a little more of a switch hitter.
TDD if you want anymore information on playing style or consistency to help decide on your players, just let us know.

Robert Henry |

An updated list, TDD I will do one of these every couple of days, or update if there are a lot of changes. Not quite enough people to break it up into groups yet, but I will do that eventually. Probably going Full BAB, Divine Spells, Arcane Spells and Skill Monkey.

Ander Warmfeet |

Well I am currently running a homebrew and just started the Strange Aeons AP, but I think it could be fun to be a player. I'll throw my name in the hat. Ander Warmfeet is an Order of the Paw Cavalier. Check out my own PBP for my posting style. Ander is a traveling adventurer looking for a village in need and coin to be earned. He signed up to ride along with the Caravan.

Mr. Clint. Ander Warmfeet Male NG Halfling (Andoran) Cavalier (Order of the Paw) 1 (Nice image Mr Clint!)
Oh thank you! When I was working on this character I was watching The Hobbit from 1977 with my 5 year old. It got me thinking about those earlier ad&d 1e/2e races and wanted to go with the flavor and feel of that version of a hobbit/halfling. I do need to make a few tweaks of Ander Warmfeet, one of them is using a background skill for profession cook. I feel like he would have helped provide a hardy meal for those on the caravan.

Ander Warmfeet |

Okay. I believe I have the crunch finished up for Ander Warmfeet and I also went ahead and made a fun little profile/alias for his animal companion, Barzu. I am cooking up a background for my Order of the Paw Hobbit/Halfling friend, but like a good stew or chili it is something that gains character over time.
I also realized that I had used max gold and I slimmed down his equipment... goodbye CLW potion. If there is anything else that needs to be changed up please let me know!

All right, here goes:
Main combat role: Melee, healer
Support: saves vs. fear and minor buffs later on.
Skills: Nope. Except for diplomacy :)
August is quite naive and gullible, so it can easily made be done to work also with less righteous characters
But the promising career path for a village idiot was interrupted when a pilgrim came to visit. A devout follower of Apsu, the old man saw the touch of his god in the boy. And he knew that despite his flaws, the boy was destined for greater purpose. So the pilgrim took the boy to accompany him in his travels, and to teach him the way of the world.
In the following years, the pilgrim and the boy travelled all around Taldor, and further. And each step they took was an opportunity for August to learn. He learned the will of Apsu, the dragon-god. He learned how to use a sword, and more importantly, when not to use it. And so, he learned how to use his gifts to protect the innocent from the evil of the world.
But all good things must come to an end. The pilgrim was old, and his time in this world was up. So August was left all alone, to face the world without guidance. Carrying the ashes of his teacher, he travels northwards, seeking for a place to lay his friend for his final rest. He now stands in the town square of Belhaim, trying to understand why exactly the caravan master Gribb is arrested.

Gosh TDD I was headed this way to post the list again, It seems I'm a little late.
I've been invited to play in the AP 'Shattered Star.' Sadly I don't want to get beyond a practical number of games to participate in. So I am removing Iradyiel Madras from the application here.
Thank you for running the game, we players really appreciate it. Good luck and good gaming to all!
