"To Have Met the King"

Game Master The Sorting Hat

Will work on sorting backstory tomorrow. I know what I want it to be, I'm just not sure how to get that across in an interesting and flavorful way yet!

I hate when I'm in that spot lol! Ok. Take your time.

@Mightypion np!

I was attempting something, but if you want to end recruitment early and feel you have a good team, go for it.

All right, I *think* I have Myth mostly done. A few little details to clean up, but good enough for recruitment I think.

No worries or preselected group-

Checking in on others and dotters to review candidates and see who needs more time!

That's why I made sure to wait a few days minimum before deciding what to do :)

For those still working, looks like 3 or so, let's see where we end up this weekend.

All submissions have clearly taken time on their builds, their story of the coin- I value this a lot and love it!

Here is my submission for Scarlet aka Blueberry. :)

Rhanys the red reporting for shooting and profits in Besmaras name, ideally first one then the other.

I have some leftover gold, which I would prefer to spend once I know if I and who else is chosen. I could also just splurge it on even more alchemical catrideges.

Turns out a level 3 Musket Master can actually rapid shot with a musket, if he/she invests alchemical catridges.

Will presumeably grab some special ammunition, or CLW potions. I do not have UMD, so wands would be of somewhat limited value.

Started a war to win that little bit of profit for the challenge? Hmm...

IC reply:

That war was starting anyway, I was just manipulating the food supply situation.

Actually starting a war hmmm, false flag situations work surprisingly often, but without actual access to leadership positions, this is not as easily or profitably done.

Generally speaking, the worldwound, the Chelish/Andoran/Galtean border areas and some other placed offer plenty of opportunities for war based profiteering, but well, Cheliax never plays fair, Andoran at some point expects you to work for "freedom" which means "for free", and Galt is Galt so its the same as Andoran, only that they also try to kill you if you dont want to work for free, while Andorans would only hold a lecture.

Mendev is broke whenever it isnt peak paranoid (most of the time they are both broke and paranoid anyway), and directly supporting the demons, well, Nocticula is the only one of them who could maybe be a reasonable customer, and she isnt invading (at least as far as we know). Deskari just wants to eat everything, which would have deleterious effects on the long term customer base, and Baphomet thinks he is soooo super cunning and smart that he is above paying. I half predict he will get simultaneously smashed in the face, stabbed in the back, and get his heart ripped out by "something" while in the middle of some goatee twirling evil monologe about his most cunning greatness.

Now, the King however, from the admittedly sparse rumors which itself speaks of excellent control of his own informational security (implying high degrees of competence, a most desireable trade in a customer/employer), highly pragmatic, possibly extraplanar connections, solid revenue base, recruits, attracts and keeps talent utterly irrespective of the source.

Very very interesting indeed. I would almost wish I was physically attractive, but he may just be the man who is more interested in smarts.

Rhaneys is a completely ammoral arms merchant, she is not kicking random puppies on the streets, and generally upholds her bargains, but morals? Nah. Cant afford them vanity luxury items at this point.

LOL! It makes for an interesting read, and character.

Normally I don't read other's character sheets. But many of these have been fun! And the coin challenge has added to that.

With the exception of some players I know exceptionally well, I always do a sort of "Sorting Hat" event pre-game. Something that gives PCs a reason to exist, a purpose driven story to build around (hate it, love it, or interact with it), and eventually my favorite part

A villian

I have absolutely loved reading peoples' entries on the coin challenge. I was curious on what I'd receive, and no two are really alike.

Sent you a PM concerning the villain.

Given that its full of plot hooks.

Oh that’s awesome, I can see all sorts of ideas for Leon’s Villain lol. I mean there’s a ton that would have a bone to pick with fey.

Sounds great.

Bad guy hype!

In the Recruitment Lounge, near one of the large scenic windows is a green overstuffed chair. A taldane human currently sits in the chair staring out at the passing world of the Paizo Forums. This human is sitting low in the lounge chair, his legs reclined in front of him. This individual looks bored, occasional removing a dagger from his boot to clean his fingernails. A fat rolled cigar sits in a nearby ashtray, occasionally puffed by the individual who looks so out-of-place in this posh sitting room.

Rhaneys puts herself in a comfortable position at the edge of the recruitment lodge.

Easy access to a door and to windows?
Check.
Nobody who could easily sneak up behind me?
Check.
Good vantage point?
Check.
Reasonably comfortable leather chair?
Double check.
Approriate distance from cigar smoker?
Check. Cigars and alchemical catridges dont really mix well, and if they do its often a one time thing.

Happy Sunday future selects- checking in.

I will be letting everyone know by the 31st I will have selected players, drawn up the first session, and we may be able to start RP and introductions that day.

I would advise builds be posted and finished by this coming Thursday, so I can dedicate a day to each pick and announce and start on the 31st.

I will continue to be active and present for messages. If I have missed something, don't be shy- feel free to give me a second ding or second reply to a PM!

While I'm working on this- how do you PbPers usually do maps? I used to do Roll20, and I've been seeing some things on "Google Slides" ?

I'll be digging into the Forums on this but successful suggestions are always appreciated :)

Having bought the coin back I glanced at the cloth again.

"Do these three things, and you will have met the king."

So now I need to meet with The Financier.... I pocketed the coin and started asking around. I found it rather interesting the looks that I got, from the reputable, the wealthy, those in authority.... The only answers I got that were worth following were from the people that didn't want attention, the poor, the shifty, dis-reputable, and those that barely had authority beyond their reach. And much of that depended on the reach of a weapon.

I followed the advice, the pointed directions, and found myself in a entrance hall, a waiting room, a comfortable place to relax until called by whoever is in charge? There are several people here ahead of me, so I find a comfortable seat. The corners are taken so I pick a seat with my back to a wall, able to watch the entrance as well as the door across.

What's next?

Yeah, there's been a lot of really interesting character ideas in here.

I’ve used google slides but having played a bit more with roll 20 both as a DM and as a player honestly I’d recommend that. It can be used on mobile (with some trouble but doable) and organizes things like hand outs sheets if that is needed as well, and maps with support for fog of war.

Your call but my wager would be Roll20.

...I never really said much about the Eye-Spotted Leopard, did I?

I actually have a Google Doc that goes into detail about them, but the basic idea is that they're a Protean 'renegade', who argues that embodiments of chaos shouldn't agree on goals so easily and so doesn't go along with the whole returning reality to primordial chaos thing. Instead they want to, ah, modify all those pesky laws to be a bit more interesting. You know, things like the law of gravity and conservation of energy.

Now that Myth has their attention, the Eye-Spotted Leopard is starting to work on getting her the ability to break some of these laws. It's starting with shapeshifting (violating conservation of mass, if only a little), but it would inform my choices about her build moving forward--she'd kind of gradually drift from rogue to more magic-based classes with the aim of giving her the ability to twist the laws of physics to her will.

Hey, I'm going to pull out of this one. Inspiration just hasn't struck me for the character's background. This looks like a great game and I'm sure you'll have an awesome time!

With that, the final selects of who will meet the king have been chosen.

I want to stress, This was not easy. Over our time of open recruitment I have considered running 2 of these at the same time, increasing the number of selected, and just taking everyone.

Unfortunately for this to be a success, I had to constantly turn the rubix cube of assorted players into what I subjectively think will play out best during our little homebrew fun.

Those who are meeting the King are as follows
Scarlet
Edwyn
Cordelia
Dr. Filip

To those not selected- keep an eye out

Should anyone not be able to play, continue, or post consistently, it will be the applicants from this post that will be chosen first. Truth be told, there have been 0 submissions that I could not see running this for.

Thank you all for the amazing submissions- chosen, there will be an opening in the discussion and gameplay thread shortly. Please be sure to post in both by this coming Monday afternoon.

Congrats to you four! Have fun!

Guess I will seek to warprofiteer elsewhere.

Good luck to everyone.

Good luck to everyone, sounds like a great game!

Have fun all!

Would either the players or the GM mind me providing somewhat sassy history book style commentary in the discussion thread, roughly adventure log style?

Lol yes, I would mind. Though if I feel a need for a "Dandelion"esque narrative, I know who to call on!
