Petyr Kindler |

I figured I'd check it to see how Pace was coming along, and what people may think of Petyr.

Petyr Kindler |

Hey Joe! Found a couple of things:

Petyr Kindler |

Hey @GM, I think we're ready to go/at least ready for review.
For the others, do we want to flex the characters a little bit in the Gameplay thread? A scene before the beginning of the AP proper, maybe on the way to Ravengro?

Andrei Markescu |

I’m open to some RP while we wait, and to an audit if anyone’s feeling up to it. Pace’s background doesn’t include any places but, since Petyr and I have it in common, Lepidstadt seems like a good starting point? Do we want to have known each other for a little while now or have met through the order recently? I was thinking maybe, like, long enough ago that we’ve become friends and are familiar with each other’s background stories and whatnot, but not so long that we should have a heap of shared stories yet… I don’t know exactly how long that is though, a couple months maybe, if we hang out regularly?

GM of the Crown |

Okay, I'll take a quick look over everyone's characters over the next few days. If everything goes well and everyone is ready, we can start sometime next week!

Petyr Kindler |

Lepidstadt is a great starting point! Depending on Andrei's age, they may have even attended some classes together. Would Pace have much formal education? Is his proud family also minor nobility, or no?
Overall, a few months of us being friends and working together seems appropriate. No grand adventures, but enough early training.

GM of the Crown |

I'm finishing the final details on preparations now, I aim to have the first post up this Saturday, and then we can truly begin.
Sorry for the slow pace.

GM of the Crown |

Apologies, friends, took a bit longer at work than I thought. We'll get this started tomorrow!

GM of the Crown |

Getting the first post written up now, but I was wondering where you guys wanted to start the campaign? The book assumes you meet at the funeral of your good friend Petro, but I thought I read something about you wanting to start as having known each other ahead of time?

Petyr Kindler |

We know each other ahead: but only for a few months at the most.

Petyr Kindler |

Gonna ping this! Happy new year, and I hope that everyone's holidays were what you wanted them to be.
I would love to get this rolling. GM, if you need more time, then the players could have some initial RP flexing in Lepidstadt. I may write up an introductory post to start to get into Petyr's voice.

GM of the Crown |

Apologies everyone, been an interesting holiday season for me. I'm writing up the first post right now, it'll be up shortly.

Petyr Kindler |

I'm just curious about how we're handling nonlethal damage since we have implemented the Elephant in the Room feat tax. There was nothing addressing it in the original post, but the most recent version of the document that I have on my computer (downloaded sometime last year) includes the spoilered text.
Nonlethal Damage: Nonlethal damage represents harm to a character that is not life-threatening. Unlike normal damage, nonlethal damage is healed quickly with rest.
Dealing Nonlethal Damage: Certain attacks deal nonlethal damage. Other effects, such as heat or being exhausted, also deal nonlethal damage. When you take nonlethal damage, keep a running total of how much you’ve accumulated. Do not deduct the nonlethal damage number from your current hit points. It is not “real” damage. Instead, when your nonlethal damage equals your current hit points, you’re staggered (see below), and when it exceeds your current hit points, you fall unconscious.
Nonlethal Damage with a Weapon that Deals Lethal Damage: You can use a melee weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage instead, but you cannot confirm critical hits when doing so.
Lethal Damage with a Weapon that Deals Nonlethal Damage: You can use a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, including an unarmed strike, to deal lethal damage instead, but you take a –4 penalty on your attack roll.
I'm also fine with taking the RAW CRB -4 penalty if doing nonlethal, but it would be good to know either way.

GM of the Crown |

I think the base rules for nonlethal are fine, unless we see the need to use the other rules?

Andrei Markescu |

Sorry I've been quiet the last few days, I've been coughing my lungs out and loopy on cough medicine (its not Covid, I got tested). I'm hoping to feel up to posting this afternoon/evening but please feel free to bot me if you need to.

GM of the Crown |

Hey, guys, been locked out of my Paizo account for a bit, will have posts up tomorrow. So sorry for the wait!

Petyr Kindler |

Lockouts are no fun. My computer crashed about two weeks ago and I (probably) lost almost all of my personal files. My work is loaning me a laptop for now while I wait for tech support to try recover things. I definitely missed a few days of posts during the first week because the browser had cookies set up weird. Glad to have you back, and hope to get things moving again soon!

GM of the Crown |

Turns out it was a cookie issue with the Paizo website, apparently I'm not the only one. Catching up and posting now!

Andrei Markescu |

Sorry my posting is a bit slow right now- I (and several family members) have Covid. None of us have very severe symptoms but its causing mayhem with our schedules and routines. I'll try to get a post up soon.

GM of the Crown |

Hey everyone! Got a ROll20 setup, the link is in the campaign description at the top.
I've posted a map of Ravengro to the Roll20, should see it on the screen when you launch the game. I'm going to assume Kendra walked you through the town a bit yesterday, or at least described a bit of the town's important sites.
B: Posting Poles: poles where townspeople can post all sorts of messages for the town, ranging from news to sales to advertisements.
C: The Laughing Demon: Zokar Elkarid runs this warm and friendly tavern, and takes pains to come up with humorous names to help alleviate some of the horror that comes with living in Ravengro, such as vampire steaks (cuts of beef skewered on thick wooden spikes) and corpse chowder (a thick stew with red broth and chunks of meat).
D: Ravengro Town Hall: in classic small-town style, Ravengro citizens use this for virtually everything, from weddings to council meetings.
E: Temple of Pharasma: Vauran Grimburrow, the Father from the funeral, is officialy in charge of the temple, but any number of a dozen or so acolytes actually handle the day to day going-ons. The temple sells various healing and holy related items.
F: Ravengro General Store: Luthko and Marta Avanaki run the general store with their five daughters. While the store usually caters to local needs, the town is big enough and on a populated enough route to stock most simple adventuring items.
G: Ravengro Forge: Jorfa is the dwarven master of the forge. One of Ravengro's most valuable resources, she is as standoffish and quiet on her past as one would expect.
H: Jominda's Apothecary: Jominda Fallenbridge keeps a well-stocked supply of pharmacological provisions, both herbal and alchemical.
I: Ravengro Jail: a relatively small jail serves as Ravengro's home for the occasional drunk citizen. Sherriff Benjan Caller runs the jail with his four part-time deputies.
J: The Silk Purse: two moneylenders work out of this building, Luramin Taigh and Quess Yearburn. They have loans available for collateral to farmers or other potential clients. They also sell some of the items that have failed to me reclaimed.
K: The Outward Inn: board and breakfast run by Sarlanna Val. Highly reccomended, if you don't have a free place to stay that is. Local musicians and storytellers often visit for evenings of entertainment.
L: The Unfurling Scroll: Alendru Ghoroven, a retired wizard-turned-teacher teaches reading, math, and history, as well as beginning magical theory. In addition to teaching, Alendru supplements his income by buying and selling minor magic items (primarily scrolls) that he’s purchased or created.
M 1-4: Council Member's Houses. Specific questions on houses can be dealt with later, should it become relevant.
N: The Lorrimor Place: formerly the professor's house, it is now Kendra's. And your current lodging.
O: Harrowstone Memorial: Other than the looming ruins of Harrowstone on a nearby hill, Ravengro’s most distinctive landmark is a 25-foot-tall, moss-covered stone statue that overlooks the river. The statue depicts a proud, muscular human man dressed in leathers and wielding a truncheon—a depiction of Warden Hawkran. A total of 25 names—the guards who died in the fire of 4661, as well as the warden’s wife, are chiseled into the statue’s stone base.
P: to The Restlands: a large stretch of moorland reserved for interring Ravengro's dead. Thanks to the Pharasmin church's influence in town, Ravengro's graveyard is large and well tended.
Q: Gibs Hephenus, the man who started the fight at the professor's funeral lives here. Infamous for being the most foul-tempered of the retired farmers of Ravengro, most people leave him alone.
R To Harrowstone: this reminder of Ravengro's original purpose looms over the town from atop its bleak hilltop, a constant inspiration for tall tales and bad dreams.

Petyr Kindler |

Excellent!
Head's up: After going to meet with Father Grimburrow (or an acolyte), Petyr will plan to also introduce himself to Jominda Fallenbridge and Alendru Ghoroven to look for odd jobs related to alchemy and teaching. Those seem like people who would want to try to get to know.

Pace Greenhour |

I'm pleased to say that tomorrow morning, I will be leaving for a trip to Italy with family for three weeks. I will check in when I can, but the days will be quite full. Please feel free to bot me to keep things moving. I'll talk to you all again soon!

Andrei Markescu |

Sorry I’ve been slow to respond, I’ve been busy and the new movement here kind of slipped through the cracks. Should have a post up soon if the present lull at work lasts.

GM of the Crown |

Hey guys, combat time! Working on getting tokens set up and assigned to you guys in Roll20.
Edit: inserted tokens for all three players and assigned control of Petyr's to Petyr, but I need the other two to join first before I can assign theirs.

Andrei Markescu |

Sorry for the delay- I’m up in the mountians and internet has been spotty (and when I’ve had it I’ve had to prioritize the long-standing game I’m running). I’ll be back in civilization tonight and will get caught up (here and in the WotR thread) either then or tomorrow.

Pace Greenhour |

Sorry for my silence, I've had to take on a second job and been working 75 hr weeks. I can follow along well enough, but for the next 2 months, posting more than twice a week will be difficult. Feel free to bot me when it will keep the game going.

Andrei Markescu |

Sorry I've been quiet as well, my wife started a new job (no longer working from home) and its been quite an adjustment for the whole family. The children will be back to school on Tuesday and I should be posting more actively again after that.

Pace Greenhour |

I'm really sorry guys. 4 weeks ago I started a second job to try to make ends meet. I had hoped to be able to keep up, but working 70 hours a week is not leaving me any time for meaningful posts and seeing the unread posts pile up is honestly causing me anxiety instead of being a fun creative outlet.
I need to cut my games way back to preserve some sanity. Again, I'm really sorry to have to pull the plug on this game, but I need to do a little self-care. Best of luck going forward.

Petyr Kindler |

Same question as at the other table: are we going to try to seek out a third person or hang the hat up on this?

GM of the Crown |

I’m more than okay to continue, and I’ll leave it up to you two to decide whether or not you want to find a new third, or have me adapt the game to just the two of you. Either one is fine with me, just let me know which!

Petyr Kindler |

I'd rather continue with three than adapt to two. But honestly, I only want to continue if we can expect to move faster than we have been. It's not just the frequency of posts (though that's part of it), but the lack of forward momentum. It's difficult to be invested in the story or our characters right now.
I know that real life is busy, and obviously takes priority. But unless we can commit to a regular pace, consequential story progression, and regular communication of when we'll be delayed, then I'd rather call it quits instead of limping along.

Andrei Markescu |

I know my posting rate hasn’t always been the most consistent, but I am inclined to agree with Petyr- our pace up to this point is made it hard to feel invested in my character or the game. I’m open to continuing if you want (and we can find a third) but I’d also like to try to pick up the pace if we do.

GM of the Crown |

I'd love to find a third and continue, and I'm sorry for not being able to deliver an interesting enough pace for you to enjoy it quite yet. I've been working on getting my schedule more consistent, to the point of posting at least once a day.
Did either of you two have anyone in mind for the third slot, or shall I open a recruitment thread to find that last piece of our party?

Andrei Markescu |

I don’t have anyone in mind, sorry. You can post a recruitment thread if you want, but you’ll probably get an overwhelming response. There’s a gestalt WotR recruitment going on right now… you could wait til it ends and see if you like any of the characters that don’t get picked? It’s possible that some of them might not want to switch over for this AP, but I suspect most of them would jump at the opportunity?
