Petyr Kindler |

It's been about a week and a half since I talked to him. I'll ping him.

Andrei Markescu |

Hey everyone, I’m really sorry for falling silent without any notice!
Last week I returned to normal/full-time work and it’s proved a bit more challenging than expected. I continue to recover well, but after being on the computer a lot at work (and all the little ways you use your shoulder throughout the day without really even thinking about it when you're not laid up at home recovering), I haven't been up to getting back on it afterwards to post. I’m getting to the point where I should be able to post during breaks and after work with some regularity again soon. And, I’m actually off tomorrow, so I’ll catch up on reading posts and get a post up in gameplay then.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Petyr Kindler |

Willkommen zurück!
For the record, I wanted to see if Park's action took down the haunt rather than throwing a flask of holy water and wasting it. If I need to throw, I will.

GM of the Crown |

Oh, I seem to have not pressed send or something. Park’s good roll did kill it, posting now!

Andrei Markescu |

This is just a thought--I have no idea if Petyr would even want it, or if our GM would want to offer it--but what about detect magic as an at will racial spell-like ability? With the normal RAW racial options, you can trade fiendish sorcery and your normal spell-like ability for the ability to use deathwatch (a 1st level cleric spell) at will... it seems like if that's a fair trade then giving up both those things for detect magic (which is actually 0th level) should be more than fair?
Again, I'm not sure Petyr would even want that, but I thought I'd throw it out there as a possibility since without it we're going to struggle with identifying magic items and whatnot.

Petyr Kindler |

I would happily trade my unused fiendish sorcery trait and my current darkness SLA for a detect magic SLA usable any times per day. (At will would be gravy.)

GM of the Crown |

I'd be okay with Petyr swapping out those two traits for a Detect Magic 3/day SLA. SLA's are usually either 1/day or 3/day, and I feel 3/day is a good enough power level. Fair?

Petyr Kindler |

Totally fair!

GM of the Crown |

Hey guys, just letting you know I'll be having a minor non-life-threatening surgery on Tuesday, so I might be out of commission for a few days thereafter.
I'll try to post as soon as possible after it!

Park Song |

Take care of yourself and take as much time as you need. RL trumps any game!

Petyr Kindler |

Yes, absolute best wishes for the surgery.

Andrei Markescu |

While we're at it, a quick heads up- I'll be camping Aug 6th through 12th. I'll be in a cabin with a bed, but no electricity. I'll do my best to make short posts whenever I go in to town for supplies, but I won't have any reliable means of charging my phone so it may be kind of hit or miss. Feel free to bot me if necessary (assuming we're up and running again after our GM's surgery).

GM of the Crown |

Had the dental surgery today, everything went well and even through the pain and aches I feel much better than my previous state. Gonna take a few days off to rest and recover, and then I’ll have my games back up shortly thereafter!
Thank you all for your patience.

Park Song |

Take whatever time you need. Thanks for letting us know.

Petyr Kindler |

Glad it all went well!
I didn't move Petyr on the map because I'm not sure if something is going to trigger, but if the movement does trigger and he's able to complete, then he moves his full complement of movement towards the furnace.

GM of the Crown |

Alright, and we're back! Not quite done recovering, but good enough to get things started again.
Appreciate you sticking with me through this!

GM of the Crown |

Hey, sorry guys. Had a bit more trouble recovering than I thought I would, been resting more, like I should've been. Apologies for the silence, I'm feeling much better now.
Onwards to adventure!

Andrei Markescu |

I'm getting ready to leave for my week of camping- like I said before, I'll try to post from my phone when electricity and cell signal allow but please feel free to bot me if needed.

Petyr Kindler |

Hey, Park, I'm just curious to make sure I understand:
You're adding the +1 weapon damage from inspire courage along with the +1 damage from using a flask of acid as an alchemical power component focus to get the 1d3+2, right?

Park Song |

Yes. Do they not stack?

Petyr Kindler |

No, they should. I'm just used to thinking of acid splash as explicitly 1d3 with no + that seeing damage augments made me go "huh?"

Park Song |

And that's why most people ignore cantrips for combat. Even if you do hit 1d3 hardly counts as damage. 3-5 isn't much better, but....

Andrei Markescu |

Hey everyone, I really hate to do this, especially since I really like this group (and this character), but I clearly don't have the bandwidth for gaming right now, so I'm going to have to bow out. I'll leave my profile as is for the foreseeable future and you can feel free to use Andrei as an NPC if/when you like, but its been like 3 weeks since I've really been able to keep up and that's not fair to anyone else.
I hope my leaving doesn't disrupt things too much for the rest of you. Happy gaming.

Petyr Kindler |

Sorry to hear that, man. I had been wondering if something like this was coming. Hope to still see you in the Tower!
I'd like to continue, and potentially recruit someone else to jump in here. I invited Park here (and always have a stable of people I could recruit from), but do the GM or Park have anyone they'd like to invite?
When we do, we could:
1) continue to drag distant relations of Professor Lorrimor's who missed the funeral out of the woodwork,
2) have someone come in to play Andrei or Pace (the paladin/bard that Park replaced), or
3) recruit an NPC from town who has become friendly to our cause.
There are other options, of course, but those three seem most plausible (with #3 being the most plausible in my eyes, from both a story and gaming perspective). A lot of that would depend on who we recruit and what their preferences are, but those are just my initial thoughts.

GM of the Crown |

I definitely want to continue, and would not mind either getting someone we know in or re-recruiting if need be. I can always add another member of the Professor's students or relatives or the like.
I mentioned earlier that a divine caster would be nice for this group, so maybe I put up a re-recruitment post asking for one?

Petyr Kindler |

Divine is definitely preferred, or at least another person adept at dealing with haunts, incorporeal, and other such types!

Park Song |

I definitely want to continue the game. I've got several friends on the board but don't know if any of them would want to take on another game AND be willing to commit to a fast posting rate.... And I totally agree that we need a divine caster if we are going to be facing more powerful haunts and powerful undead.

Petyr Kindler |

Let's go ahead and toss up a recruitment. I'll mention to a few people I game with who might be interested to take a look.

GM of the Crown |

Alright, will do so when I get home from work today. Along with a post, the next room is exciting!

GM of the Crown |

Threw a recruitment post up, I’ll have a gameplay post up after work.
Just a ‘GM heads up’, I’m going to have Vesorianna suggest you go find divine help in town after your conversation is done. You’re at a good point to go back to Kendra’s house to get a bit of rest before the third party member joins you on your explorations.

GM of the Crown |

If you guys want to drop in and introduce yourselves in the recruitment thread and give some more things you’d like the replacement character to have, feel free!

Petyr Kindler |

Welcome to the ghostbusters, Morganne! We'll be swinging back into town to pick you up shortly ^_^

Park Song |

Welcome Morganne! What he said....

Petyr Kindler |

Park grins as the door rattles, apparently locked. He nods at his familiar and whistles, the thrush joining in.
[dice=Perform Bird whistle]1d20 +3
[dice=Birdie's Perform]1d20 -2Oddly enough, Park's bird whistles sound better than the real thing!...
Nerd time.
A songbird's Perform check should be wisdom-based rather than charisma-based, because real-world birdsong is a combination of innate and learned behavior. There are plenty of birds that are vocal in spite of not having a capacity for vocal learning, whose songs develop in predictable ways regardless of whether they are raised in captivity, with adult mentors of the same species, with adult mentors of different species, or in other environmental combinations. Conversely, birds capable of vocal learning (i.e., songbirds, hummingbirds, and parrots) have deeply impoverished calls if raised in isolation or without adult mentors during a critical learning period. (There are also brain damage studies, but those make me sad and usually aren't suitable for polite conversation.)

GM of the Crown |

As with the first level, the second level of Harrowstone was also mapped in the files. Here is the map of the second level for your use. Easier this way.

Park Song |

Interesting thinking about Birdie's "singing". Wisdom is 15 while Charisma for some reason is 6. Also note though that he isn't a normal thrush. As my familiar his Intelligence is 6 and he can speak common. His intelligence increases by 1 for every 2 levels I gain.
GM question: Normal familiars get class skill bonuses in Acrobatics, Climb, Fly, Perception, Stealth, and Swim. Since my "Birdie" is a Duettist: Versatile Familiar, eventually capable of using my Bardic Performances, would he gain the class skill bonuses for the performances that he'd be capable? Possibly Oratory, Sing, and maybe Dance or Comedy? It doesn't really affect game play, but could be interesting for RP.

GM of the Crown |

I assigned your token to you, Morganne! You should be able to move and edit it yourself now.

GM of the Crown |

I got in touch with Poly, and he does have some IRL stuff going on. He gave me permission to bot him for a little bit until he figures things out.
I'll get a post up tomorrow for him, and we'll figure out where to go from there.

Park Song |

Hoping he's all right. Thanks for the word.

GM of the Crown |

Sorry for having to ask, but I actually have three games with Poly in it and it's becoming a bit overwhelming to both DM and play his character. If either of you would like to assist by running him as well as your own character, I would be grateful!

Morganne |

I know Park got a higher initiative but as we're all going before the enemy, I figure it doesn't particularly matter what order we post in.

GM of the Crown |

Yeah, we talked about that a bit back, before you joined I think. As long as the party is together, posting all at once doesn’t make any difference.
Can always alter actions if someone wants to do something specific before another party member does something else.

GM of the Crown |

I put the stirges on the Roll20 map, Park, so you should be able to see them.
So there are two effects to this haunt, one tied to the fear of the music and another not directly linked to the music. I'll let you use the Countersong against the sound-dependent effects of the haunt, but not against the other effect. I'll describe the effect of the second one when it happens.
Do one of you two want to bot Petyr or should I do so? Almost want to wait for him to get back, but that's not really feasible.
