About the backpack we found -- (Under some of the tires you find a consumer backpack hidden under some junk camouflage. Inside the backpack you find a stash of the following useful items: one medpatch, one flashlight, one set of binders, a spell ampoule of disguise self, one suit of environmental clothing (radiation), 2 cover seeds, and 4 days of R2E's. All of this is found in the CRB except the cover seeds (ARM). The junk camouflage is also reusable )
The theory was that that belonged to Vari-13 and we would return it to her if we found her, but that we would use stuff along the way. How did that work out, GMQ? Was it her gear?
New purchases:
Gath had 1500 left over from the first adventure, never spent that loot. That gives him 2625 with the new loot.
GMQ, any objections to jumping to 4th level veteran shobhad harness? It's barely any better than the 3rd level carbon skin.

Description
When wearing a properly fitted industrial backpack, you treat your Strength score as 2 higher for the purpose of determining your carrying capacity. This does not stack with the effect of a consumer backpack.

I've been meaning to get around to this fun level up for a while now. Here is my report:
Stamina: +5
HP: +5
Skills: +8 acro, bluff, computers, engineering, life science, perception, physical science, stealth
Bab: +1
Will save: +1
0th-level spells known: +transfer charge
1st-level spells known: +summon creature (robot, water elemental, demon, archon)
Spell hack: Countertech
Now I need to spend my monies, claim gear, and update my sheet in the profile. Will get to that later.
therealthom |
Gath pays full freight for used gear. I will take a 15 credit credit for shedding his old armor. 506 credits for Gath.
I've got to check his encumbrance. Carrying capacity is 8 + 1 for his backpack = 9.
I get 9.2 bulk if the double-sized tent is only 1 bulk. That will put him into encumbered status. The rules don't say that the tent's bulk increases if it gets larger, but that only makes sense. So 2 bulk for the tent, GMQ?
The tent will sleep 4.
If you've a mind to shed some of your load, Gath can be easily convinced to carry stuff for you.
Encumbered:
All of your speeds are reduced by 10 feet, your maximum Dexterity bonus to your Armor Class is reduced to +2, and you take a –5 penalty to Strength- and Dexterity-based checks (or you take your armor’s armor check penalty, whichever is worse).
GM Quirk |
I'm pretty sure you only gain encumbered when you pass 9.9 and get to 10.
Honestly not sure how to look at the tent. My hot take is that it would be 2 bulk for a big four person tent (especially a shobhad-sized tent!).
Perhaps a good idea may be to strap it Uchurtai's bike! I don't have plans to make this a vehicle scenario, but perhaps it could be assumed that he uses the bike to scout ahead, and it is left at a base camp while you all investigate individual locations.
Uchurtai |
Sure! I think Uchurtai would carry his gear at the very least, and probably take other gear that other folks would rather not carry.
For visual reference, his bike looks a bit like this though obviously hovering like an enercycle.

I'm not leaning too heavy on the Warframe slang, am I? The Ventkids were Sen's primary inspiration, but I worry I'm overdoing it...

OK. I think I've sorted out my account issues - I've have been able to log in successfully each time for a couple of days now!
Love Sen's slinging of slang. It's good fun.
And finally, Locket's purchases were:
A week's worth of R2E
A bedroll
A canteen
What I've designated Xtreme Threads "No hot too hot or cold too cold" (combined Environmental Hot/Cold)
A new Kusari-fundo (Burnning Chains, Fiend-class)
Sold the Shadow Chains.

Working on a special custom map for this encounter. The one from the book is just not EPIC enough for this.
Kind of a busy weekend. Did my taxes today AND grilled some food for the family! Also, it so happens I have my in-person game tomorrow night.
With all that in mind, I'll be trying to pick things up again here tomorrow night (Monday).

Nice idea to get the ball rolling, Zetara.
From which direction are the rest of us approaching? Even if just to get a little bit closer for some recon on the golem and signs of the vesk?
I was wondering if from the south might be best as there's multiple options for cover without leaving us too directly exposed.
I'm happy to volunteer Locket - he's got some decent stealth, although not the best Perception. Communication is not his strong suit, but it might not matter much with a golem.

Still a little behind the 8-ball this week. I see things opening up next week. I really want to get this group (along with my Aeon Throne and Threefold Conspiracy games) back to 6 GM posts a week. I made the mistake of agreeing to run a couple of games for the current online convention mostly happening on the Paizo boards.
One of those games is ending now.
All in all, it's good to for community, but it's taken away all of my bandwidth.

Apologies for dropping off the face of the earth. Started a new long term job in SoCal. Prepping to go, travel and trying to finish up some open tasks from last week have kept me away.
I'm likely to be slow posting for another few days. BOt as needed please.

Have anything long range? You can stand back and try to ping him, or just cheer from the sidelines. We don't want you to get killed.
If you can use small arms, I always have an extra pistol I can loan you, or give you if you want to add it to your repertoire. Stay out of range and see if you can chip away at it.
...Although, after reading gameplay, that might not do much good either. Low level weapons won't touch that thing except on a really high damage roll. If I can roll well, my sniper rifle might do something, but best I have other than that is 1d6. With trick shot it would add 1d4, but that's still going to come out to 0 damage at least half the time.
Zetara |
I wonder if we could do something environmental. Like try making a wall of junk fall on it or something.
GM Quirk |
It does seem like a good time to pause for a moment so you can all figure out a way forward.
This is a little meta-gamey, but it's all stuff you know about this creature.
First, it's clear that this thing has DR--DR 5, in fact. Remember, things like laser weapons are going to be very effective against this thing. Piercing, slashing, or bashing weapons are not.
Also, Janebok figured out the following when she did an engineering check (this was in a spoiler to her, hopefully she won't mind me sharing):
1. It has no ranged attacks.
2. It has a landspeed of 25'.
3. It has the "berserk" ability: Berserk (Ex) When a junk golem begins its turn with half its HP or fewer, it must attempt a DC 11 Will save. On a failure, it goes berserk, using its actions to move and attack or make a full attack. If it can’t reach a creature, it attacks objects. The golem attempts a DC 11 Will saving throw at the end of each of its turns to end the berserk state. If the golem’s creator communicates with it to calm it and succeeds at a DC 10 Charisma check, the golem gains a +2 circumstance bonus to this save.
Finally, I believe one of the NPC's earlier may have mentioned that the junk golem seems to have some resistance to magic.
Retreating is not a bad idea! Remember, there are two other locations you can investigate while you figure out what to do with this thing.
Zetara |
I like Janebok's plan of running around it and shooting at it from afar, but it will take a long time, and not everyone would be able to participate, other than staying out of its way.
My rifle can do more than 5 damage, but only on a good roll. I have no lasers, but I could move/shoot each round and hope for lucky shots.
... Unless we think that we are going to get better weapons by heading to the other places, the few who can hit it would have to keep moving and shooting every round, staying away while taking it down a few HP at a time. Might be our only way to defeat it.
... If we did try that though, could we maybe hit fast forward so as not to bore the non-combatants to death?

Thinking meta, I bet we level if we do the two other quests, or at least have the opportunity to get better weapons.
Also, I grew up in the game where the DM would have no compunction about dropping a balor on 4th level characters. We learned to be polite and pick our battles. Besides it's fun to use a high pitched voice and scream , "Run away! Run away!" while you run for your lives.

Mwuhahaha!
With the golem on its back, at least for the moment, I would be happy for you all to make a clean get away here. It wouldn't chase you far.

I'm inclined to agree...I figured when Quirk said they admired our cojones, we were about to bite off more than we could chew.

I think we have a decision then.
It looks like everyone is ready to run awy so you can fight another day.
I will begin a scene with the goblin and ikeshti you met earlier tomorrow night.
I suppose you'll all be wanting to think about a strategy for the rematch.
One thing I will do is make the map a little bigger. I don't want it to be too big, but I will likely add some more space to the south and east.

I am in need of slowing down for just a few days. I have had a death in the family (my mother in law, and this really was NOT a surprise, as she was receiving hospice care).
My attention is obviously needed elsewhere for a bit.
I anticipate returning to you all about Tuesday next week, and we will decide where to head. Feel free to continue to role play your escape in game play. You guys are a great bunch, and I am having fun.
