I'm having a rough time for several reasons right now. For the next few days, it's possible my posts might be really brief, without much character. If this happens, please don't take it amiss; I will return to normal posting as soon as I can.

Kneepuncher is not a terrible captain (Diplomacy +7, Intimidate +9) or gunner (+6).

Sir Feighnswelle is actually a pretty good captain (+9 Diplomacy/+11 Intimidate) or chief mate (+10 Athletics). He makes an adequate magic officer (+6 Mysticism), a poor gunner (+0 Gunnery), and lacks the skills to perform any other roles.

Assuming I've read and calculated everything correctly:
Feighnswelle, for gunnery you get your BAB bonus so you're at +4 not +0
Specialist is actually our best gunner with his BAB and DEX bonus at +7 total
Navasi seems to be the only pilot in the group
Kneepuncher is probably best allocated as a dedicated gunner

Welp, taking a look overall, it seems to me the following is the best distribution, assuming we want to optimize gunners at the expense of science offier:
Specialist: Gunner +7
Feighnswelle: Captain
Tanila: Engineer +11
Delea: Magic Officer +14 (mostly precog? but perhaps some srying early on)
Kneepuncher: Gunner +6
Navasi: Pilot +9

If we instead change positions to take a hit on gunner optimzation and include a science officer then perhaps:
Specialist: Engineer +14
Feighnswelle: Gunner +4
Tanila: Science officer +14
Delea: Magic Officer +14 (mostly precog), or Captain +8

I often see a science officer used first round for a scan, then they move to another role. Delea can do that as Magic Officer instead, so I would vote for the first distribution.

I am fine with either Captain or Gunner. I have no preference on the ship. I have played this once before, so I am fine taking a back seat on these types of decisions.

Yeah, I think Delea will do much better as magic officer. I can switch between rounds if we think it necessary.

I thought her science was a pre-battle roll so didn't count for round 1. And since the GM called for a science roll, I assumed it had to be computers and couldn't be replaced with a magic officer Mysticism roll.
Overall tho, I'm totally okay with whichever roles everyone wants to roll with. I was just looking to figure out how to optimize for the current party composition.
