RMH-EP-01: The Grand Masquerade (Inactive)

Game Master Aeshuura

A four-hour epic adventure for 1st-level characters.

Grand Lodge

So, today is the launch day for the DDAL special campaign Ravenloft Mist Hunters. The advantage of this campaign is that you don't need to have a character that is the appropriate level, you just spec your character to the level of the module being run.

If you are interested in seeing the Character Creation Rules:

Character Creation

There is even a Tarroka card generator:

Tarroka Draw

And special character sheets:

Ravenloft Character Sheets

So, anyone interested in making a foray into the Domains of Dread?

Grand Lodge

Ideally, I am also looking for interest to run this series. I am not really good at creepy and horror, but I am always willing to give it a try.

Anyway, just mostly doing a temperature check on this one.

Note that all characters in Ravenloft: Mist Hunters come from a Domain of Dread, not from a world beyond the mists.

That's pretty interesting, being a 'native' of Ravenloft for a change.

And your games are always masterfully run so of course I'd be down.

Depending on how some of the recruitments I'm already in go, I would definitely be interested.

Thank you for your kind words... *bowing respectfully*

I'm interested... I haven't kept up with the changes since 2e and I might as well give 5e a shot...

That sounds interesting. I had to leave many games due to RL agenda, now that I'm slooooowly coming back I've sworn I'll only put my nose into 5e - easier, quicker and cleaner.

With praisings to the GM and an exotic background, how can I miss it?

Dark Archive

Ravenloft is awesome. I would be interested.

Grand Lodge

That's five possibles... I just purchased the Epic and first module. In a week, or so, we can look at character generation together.

I will try to do this campaign justice, but like I said, horror is not my forte, but I will try to make this awesome! Be looking at the character gen document and get a feel for what you want to do, whether you have a concept already, or you want to let the Tarokka deck decide for you...

I will start looking at this seriously about Wednesday, next week.

The Sun Soul Monk sounds interesting and I have not played a monk in 5e. We can bring some inner light to the darkness.

Take a look at what realm you might be from. There are two East Asian inspired that I know of, one Hindi and one Chinese...

If I am able to play in this, I think I'll be using this profile. A Barovian who is a loyal servant of the Morninglord who spreads his light throughout the lands.

Dark Archive

So I did a quick search for Monastic Orders in Ravenloft and came up with The Monastery of the White Sun in Barovia. The person who mentioned it called the monks Sun Souls which would fit, and they were dedicated to the Morninglord.

Depending on what year it is I can either be a member/remnant who survived what happened at the monastery or a descendant of someone who survived. If you would prefer I come from an eastern domain I can keep looking to see if there is another monastery that fits.

Excelent! OMG, there are so many different character concepts I want to play that choosing only one will be really tough...

Hmm I'll give the part 2 method a shot, sounds fun/novel to use the Tarokka cards to inspire the creative writing. I mean I don't need the narration part (though that would be a lot of fun with new players at a RL table).

Would you like us to roll using the tables or online deck? Or does DM draw one set for the entire party? If rolled, for duplicates, I'm assuming the drawn cards would be left on the table and not reshuffled?

You can use that character, except the ability score arrays are a little different from normal, and you will have to bump him back down to 1st lvl, for the Epic.

If that is okay with you, then I am okay with it. (Think of it as earlier in his career...)

Timing-wise, I would expect that it is in present, assuming Curse of Strahd is completed, and the cycle has begun anew. We can work with whichever you prefer...

It is pretty interesting... We can use the random Tarokka generator next week and work through the process.

That would be perfectly fine! I was more presenting him as an idea of what I'd be bringing to the table.

If we're both selected, our characters could be companions bringing the Morninglord's glory to the darkest corners of the domains of dread!

Dark Archive

Can we do some of the card draws but skip others? I have the domain and class selected but I think it might be fun to draw for the rest of the items.

Sure! That would be fine... I don't see it being a big problem.

I'd have interest as well. I'm not too familiar with 5e, but love the Ravenloft setting.

Grand Lodge

So, listing interested parties:

Mishima
Kinghottrash (Brother Lazlo Krykski)
DJPika
Jereru
Malinor
Fighting Chicken

There is room for 1 more, if there is still people looking...

I've been playing a bunch of melee guys lately, I think I'm going with a Sorcerer or Warlock now. Maybe both.

Storywise, would it be too painful that the character has an otherworldly appearance? I was thinking it was a consequence of his lineage or pact.

I'm definitely being a cleric, just not sure what domain yet. If we get a whole slew of melee folks, I'll likely go with Light and be more of a spellcaster than up in the melee. If we get a lot of ranged, I'll go Life and wear that heavy armor goodness and go into melee much more.

I won't lie though, I am also potentially interested in playing a bard. I love bards.

I'd also be interested assuming you still want to take one more!

Bear in mind that the initial module is a masquerade ball... Now, it may not matter too much, but understand that having an otherworldly appearance will come into play... and probably not to your benefit. That is just a guess...

You would make 7, and close recruitment.

Grand Lodge

Okay, with recruitment closed, we will move conversations for Character Creation to the Discussion Thread.
