You see a dusty octagonal oaken table, with 8 cushioned chairs. The few tapestries are in need of replacing or repairs. Still, with a little work, you could turn this into something decent.

Brunhild Blackarrow |

Brunhild had seen worse. Which given that she had been in a burnt out city and a refugee camp wasn’t saying much.
Hi everyone!

Daniel Cedric |

I'll get to work revamping his sheet to match.

Daniel Cedric |

I really do forget how crappy a 15pt buy is for martial characters. Man.

Daniel Cedric |

bah! casters need not care about the petty concerns of physical stats. Lol.

GM Chyro |

Say that again next time they get stabbed in the kidney and drop KO. ;)

Estelle the Stray |

Hey everyone, and thanks for selecting me. Looking forward to playing with you all!
@Daniel Well, free weapon focus eventually sort of evens it out. The best array for plate characters I could come up with is something like 14+2, 12, 12, and then a combination of 14, 12 and 8 for mental stats, leaving one point open. I put it in int and will probably level int at level 4 to 10 for the skill points.

Brunhild Blackarrow |

All depends on the martial. 15pt...
Race: Half Orc
* Darkvision, Sacred Tattoo, Intimidating (+2 Intimidate)
Traits:
* Fate’s Favored, Trustworthy (+1 Diplomacy and Bluff)
Class: Inspired Blade Noble Fencer Swashbuckler (Weapon Finesse and Weapon Focus Lvl 1, doesn’t use Charisma)
Feat: Fencing Grace
Equipment: Leather Armor, Buckler, Rapier
Str (12) Dex (18) Con (14) Int (10) Wis (10) Cha (8) Fort (+4) Ref (+8) Will (+2) AC (17/14/13) CMD (15)
15 point buy. Works just fine...you just need to be really SAD. Character above works as a good bastard child of a nobleman.

Yeah, that can work! Sacred tattoo can cover poor saves, and Dex will inherently always have the advantage over str. For this particular campaign though, both half-orc ans swashbuckler couldn't be selected. My comment was made with these restriction in mind.

Daniel Cedric |

Note, I never said you or I can't make it work, just that it feels painful at times.
And yes, you can make a martial fairly SAD, but that can take away from the character.

Brunhild Blackarrow |

Fair points all around. :)
And yes, Even for Brunhild it would have been nice to have 18 Wis. But I think we all made it work pretty well.

Daniel Cedric |

What I'm struggling with at the moment is whether I want to take dual talented and bump my charisma mod up by 1. Or take the feat and skill point.

Rowän_ |

That’s a hard call. I guess it depends on the specific build you have in mind and how feat intensive it is. My gut says keep the feat and lower your dex and increase your cha.

Daniel Cedric |

the build is "generic fighter build", as in, I'm planning on him going for anything specific. At the moment I'm looking at 3 fighter->2 paladin and I haven't planned much past that. (as PbP progressing slowly level wise, usually)
I guess one way to describe the feats he is taking is "make bad situations less bad/general combat utility"
Example-
He has blind fight and step up atm. If I were to take the feat+skill, I'd probably take quickdraw as the extra feat. Power attack would come in at level 2 or 3. Dodge is also something I'll possibly end up taking.
I'm leaning towards just taking the extra +2, since if we ever get to higher levels (6+) the plan is to go fighter 5/paladin X, though I may end at fighter 3. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
@GM, would a mithril full plate count as heavy armor or medium armor for the armor specialization?

Brunhild Blackarrow |

If you can ignore the name, sisterhood style feat tree might be worth it as he uses sword and shield. Better saves and share teamwork feats. Seems to me to be in line with a fighter turned Paladin.

Daniel Cedric |

those feats look interesting. Even more so for a cavalier actually. And I'll admit, Originally, the character was going to go for a TWF build eventually, with sword+shield, however that was for a 25pt buy and feat tax game. So, I likely won't be doing any TWF in this one.

GM Chyro |

Daniel, could you answer the 5 questions for your character.
Thanks. ;)

Daniel Cedric |

1) What did you do during the conflict?
Was an aid to knights in the camp due to his younger age at the beginning and performed as a sort of rear guard in the final year of the war. His arm and armor he got from his parents was basically ruined in the conflict. He does not wish to return home until he manages to have them repaired. However he hasn't considered the thought that him not returning would hint at a worst fate yet.
2) Name one specific person from your past, you have lost contact with during the conflict.
His elder Brother Alaryn, who was an active soldier in the army. He disappeared after a large battle and presumed lost or killed.
3) Quirks to be aware of?
A strong sense of morality, heavily influenced by his mother. Despite his imposing and better than average physique, he has an air of uncertainty or shyness to him that is further pronounced by his seemingly humble nature. Is prone to "causing trouble" due to his inability to "let things be" when he sees something happening that he disagrees with. He often seems to be lost in thought, even when in a social setting.
4) What unsettles your PC
He always seems mildly anxious, as if he isn't ever certain about what it is he is or should be doing save when he has his sword in hand. He has a fear of spiders ever since he was bitten at a young age by a highly venomous one and bedridden for nearly two days. He does not like being without sight, so purely light-less areas would unsettle him, despite being trained to deal with such events. He also has a mild fear of the inevitable, that is to say, of aging and death and the like. Its odd, as thinking on the subject both fascinates him, but unsettles him.
5) Particular goals in life?
For now, the immediate goal is to restore the armor and weapon gifted him by his parents. After that, he doesn't really have one. He was mildly interested in the knights he served during the war, but he feels that he isn't qualified for that.

GM Chyro |

Astella, since you didn't roll the kn. Local, shall we assume you've lived in that city, with your family, for the latter 2 decades or so?
Probably something job related to your mother's profession.

Astella |

We can assume that, or I can roll it, but I didn't think whether I knew where her birth city was was pertinent to my conversation. Astella was born in the Tularian Forest, as was the woman, but the Tularian forest is south of AvLee (or so my online source said when I tried to look up the locations you threw out earlier LINK), so she was focused on things they had in common, which was being born in the same area. Even if she had failed the roll (which we can just assume because I didn't roll if you want), she would have said "of course" because she's trying to build common ground with the woman.
Sorry... if the roll is important to the storyline I will throw it in with my next post.

No, nothing major like that. (or will it become now?)

About the crab and moving it, if everyone agrees to try selling it later, it's probably best to put it somewhere in a nearby cool or shaded place with some spare blanket over it until we get back? That *is* fairly heavy, and dragging is along the ground probably doesn't do good to either the meat or how nice the parts look :)
I could also roll a survival check for food conservation as the IC Estelle probably knows better than I do. All I know is that trying to bury it underground tends not to work, and that we probably should put it somewhere cool and out of sight.

Estelle the Stray |

I made an error in the last post; I'd forgotten the exact reward for winning and thought the island itself was the prize for the scavenger hunt when it's actually unspecified lands on the eastern Erathian border. Shall we say Estelle forgot? Otherwise she could just end with the risk or earning ire of people who'd become more powerful, or that Sally would be effectively selecting future rulers for an unknown number of people based only on if they can pay her a large amount of money right now.

Estelle the Stray |

just in case, can I roll survival in addition to perception as daniel did?
If yes, here's Estelle's survival roll during the search:
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

GM Chyro |

Finding the berries would get found on either one roll, not both.

I'll say i'm enjoying events so far.
True, good player engagement and roleplay IMO. Also lots of good one-liners from our dwarf :)
@Astella Thanks for updating the list. Also, sorry if I misunderstood the 'let's not talk where others who could overhear us' bit. Personally I thought you meant 'In a place where other teams can't overhear us', which is why Estelle walked out first.

You are far too kind. :) and I’ll second the thanks for the list. It’s *very* useful!

For the second complaint? You didn't misunderstand, although even though you moved the conversation outside, it's still public and embarrassing. Regardless of where your character criticizes her, Astella isn't going to automatically appreciate criticism and definitely isn't ever going to agree with Estelle that her crush is the enemy. (I mean, unless they really do betray us, but I think that is unlikely unless we get in a situation where there is only one of something.)

GM Chyro |

Hehe.
I hadn't mentioned her age at all, only that she lived with her mother.

GM Chyro |

I'm handwaving the guard shift interruption, it's of no importance.
I already updated HP accordingly.
13/14 is correct, you were at 7/14 before the healing and resting.

Estelle the Stray |

Looking back at the crab fight, that's correct. I had a nagging feeling I forgot one hp from rowan's heal and treated it as 8 hp instead of 9, but I must have corrected that earlier somewhere without remembering I did. I guess next to Sally's age, perhaps I'm going senile in my old age...
Regarding the readied action and 5ft steps, I found this below in the compendium. It's an obscure-ish rule that was used against and almost killed a character of mine in PFS once as I didn't know enemies could move with 5ft steps outside of their turns if they readied. Somewhat ironically also vs vampires with level drain.
"Readying an Action
You can ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, anytime before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition. The action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character’s activities, you interrupt the other character. Assuming he is still capable of doing so, he continues his actions once you complete your readied action. Your initiative result changes. For the rest of the encounter, your initiative result is the count on which you took the readied action, and you act immediately ahead of the character whose action triggered your readied action.
**You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don’t otherwise move any distance during the round.**"

I have never seen this happen, in the 17 years (already?) i've gamed here.
I can see this slowing down combat, though, if used as an 'attack and step down when enemy gets within 5ft', as people described. I'm not too much in favor of tapdancing around, tbh.
That said, whatever the PCs can do, the enemy can do. Including classy vampires with level drain. *bleh*
Speaking of vampires almost makes me want to do another run of VtM Bloodlines. Bloody gold.

Daniel Cedric |

the answer? Step up. No one will be tap dancing from Daniel. :3

I have added a basic party loot sheet under my header.
Everyone also has their own tabs for personal inventory.

GM Chyro |

Yes, provided you deal enough dmg.
DR 3/-, 2 HP.
Loot sheet also has permission to fill in your own tabs.

Estelle the Stray |

Hm... i personally interpreted Daniel's comment of failling back that he'd left the frontline to move south one square to be adjacent to Estelle to the west so I could attack the large spider without cover. If he didn't and the spider was not large but medium, and i'd thus have no way of knowing what squarr its in and how to attack it without cover, i would have simply readied an attack for when Daniel moved aside. I'd like to change my action then with this new information.
