Arcana +12
GM Dennis

As Omble, Arrus, and Xanno noticed earlier, the cracks in the wall look pretty hazardous. You suspect someone sufficiently skilled might be able to seal them using objects strongly grounded to the Material Plane (expert Thievery), or someone learned might be able to invoke incantations to seal the cracks (trained Arcana) or dispel them via magical means (dispel magic).
Xanno the Magnificent
|
"I, Xanno the Magnificent, master of the arcane...can probably close up this fissure, yeah."
Looks like Xanno has the highest bonus.
Arcana: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30
GM Dennis
|
Xanno the magnificent speaks some words of arcane power, and the cracks begin to recede, though they do not yet close entirely (it seems one success is not enough).
Inonotusoblitus
|
Expert thievery: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20 +1 if this is a trap.
Expert thievery hero point: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36 +1 if this is a trap.
Omble looks at those cracks on the fabric of reality. After examining them from all the angles, he takes out his thieves' tools and draws out a thread and a needle. Those are special ones for when you need to repair the fabric of reality.
He tries to make a knot inside the eye of the needle, but fails the first time. He does it on the second try.
After this, he sews all around the holes to close them.
" Using a patch would be better, but we are just lucky i have this type of material." says Omble. "Neverless, those are only temporary repairs. We need to find the main cause of this."
GM Dennis
|
Omble deftly finishes what Xanno started, closing up the dangerous cracks in the planar walls--at least for now. This allows you safe passage through the foyer and into the manor proper.
The large double doors of the main hall open to a sandy beach oasis, complete with palm trees and a desert spring. Destroyed furniture and old food litter the ground, but the sky is clear above and the water glistens in the warm sunlight. Pillars, doors, and the stairs of the house all remain, disrupting the beach and drawing attention to the strangeness of the sight. Floating face down in the spring are what appear to be seven humanoid bodies, dressed in fashionable and expensive clothing.

"Somehow I doubt that was the outcome they had in mind. Can someone determine if they drowned or died some other way?"
Bardok Marsh

Bardok grimaces at the carnage before him, looking around for clues or hostiles.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Also casting detect magic (3rd level) on the area.

Omble looks over the room with a critical eye, finding no signs of immediate danger. Bardok scans the room with his arcane senses, finding neither hostile creatures nor magical effects. He does, however, see various sets of footprints criss-crossing the sandy beach that makes up this room. You can try to figure out where they're going with a Survival check to Track.
Xanno the Magnificent
|
Xanno would have treated her wounds.
Treat Wounds: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
heal: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 8) = 9
"What interesting, not-goblin footprints."
Survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
GM Dennis
|
Yeah, fine for you to have done any healing needed outside before entering.
Arrus and Omble identify multiple distinct sets of footprints, all roughly the size of humans wearing shoes. Some move towards the stairs at the far western end of the room, while others head toward a nearby doorway to the south. It looks like several dozen people, probably human (or at least human sized/wearing shoes typical of humans and humanoids), heading quickly out of the room. I've marked where they were headed with yellow arrows.
Rextangalin Werzerial
|
"Interesting. Should we investigate where they were running to, or running from?"
Bardok Marsh
|
Bardok gestures down the left path. ”This seems as good a route as any. Why don’t we follow these tracks first?”
GM Dennis
|
Following the footsteps you come to a small sitting room, where a dozen disheveled, unwashed people huddle. Most of the furniture is damaged, including several smashed cupboards that were previously used to barricade the doors. The survivor’s relief is immense when they see you at the door, as if they expected and feared someone else would be there. ”Oh, thank the gods. It’s about time someone came to rescue us!”
Bardok Marsh
|
Bardok holds up a hand. ”We’re to help, but can’t be too careful. What happened here? What was the last magical effect you saw in effect here?”
GM Dennis
|
A young woman, dressed in what was once a very elegant gown now stained and tattered, scoffs at the question. "The worst party of my life is what happened here! I was supposed to get one of those pastries I had as a child in Absalom. Instead, I’ve been imprisoned here with these unfashionable fools for time immeasurable! The noises those screeching flapper demons make, I cannot even begin to describe to you. Honestly, I should have known what would happen by just looking at the guest list. Corvus invited the riff raff. The riff raff have no idea how to ask for what they want! All of this is Kala’s fault” she says, shooting an evil glance at another woman in the room, ”all of it. That horrible blue woman is here for her, after all.”
Bardok Marsh
|
Bardok frowns. ”Slow down, ma’am. What blue woman? Who is Kala? What does the blue woman want with her?”
Rextangalin Werzerial
|
"Interesting reaction. I can't say If I've been through all that I'd assume people that just showed up were here to rescue me. But please, do tell us about Kala and the blue woman."
"Now do you mean that she is sad or... actually blue?"
GM Dennis
|
"Ugh, that's Kala" she says, rolling her eyes and pointing at a woman on the other side of the room. "It's her fault." The other woman stares daggers, but doesn't say anything.
"I can tell you about the blue woman" an aristocratic man chimes in. "She's a genie, named Perizia. She isn't one of Corvius' genies, though. She's here of her own accord, to punish him, or to punish us, or something. Sometimes she comes down here and offers us more wishes, but the wishes are all torture and pain. Rashid tried to wish his way out of here, and she freed him from his body and this mortal plane entirely--he's dead. Genies simply cannot be trusted to act of their own wills."
You think it would be safe enough to escort them outside, if you wish.
Inonotusoblitus
|
So, if i understand, you had this little party of yours and than this Perizia come in and offer you wishs that she twisted? That created this situation? Where is Corvius?"
Bardok Marsh
|
Bardok takes a head count while waiting for her answers. ”Kala, why does she think this is your fault?”
GM Dennis
|
"Hey, how many other people are still in the house? We saw footprints going upstairs, too."
"Ugh, who knows. They're probably all dead or something."
Bardok takes a head count while waiting for her answers. ”Kala, why does she think this is your fault?”
"I have no idea." Kala says, icily. Dima (the first woman you spoke to) laughs out loud at this. "Oh yes you do! Oh ho, yes you do! It was your wish, you classless fool. You're the one that wished for a 'dance partner to sweep you off your feet'! This is all your fault!"
GM Dennis
|
So, if i understand, you had this little party of yours and than this Perizia come in and offer you wishs that she twisted? That created this situation? Where is Corvius?"
"Yes, that's about right" the aspiring genie expert (who introduces himself as Fasiel ibn Sazadin) replies. "I'd imagine Corvius is upstairs, trying to deal with the situation...that is, if Perizia hasn't gotten to him yet."

"Thanks you for your confirmation."says Omble.
He turns to the group.
"I suggest that we escort this group to safety outside and then, we continue our exploration."
Bardok Marsh

Bardok nods after Omble. ”Who is this dance partner?”
GM Dennis
|
"Ugh!" Dima exclaims. "The blue lady! She" she says, pointing at Kala, "wished for a dance partner--like an idiot--and that horrible blue lady appeared and everything has been terrible ever since. Now, can we go, please?"
As you lead the guests outside, Kala points back toward the door next to where you found them huddled. "Oh, be careful of the next room!" she warns, pointing to the south door to the drawing room (marked on the map with a green arrow). “The air is thick and wrong. Nadia wished for something beautiful to take her breath away and so many people died. How I have survived this hardship, sometimes I wonder at it! Truly, I think none have suffered as I do.”
GM Dennis

You have safely escorted the people out to the waiting guards. Where to next?

Omble casts a spell to allow him to breathe underwater, then opens the door. The small drawing room is heavy with a thick, oppressive blanket of foul-smelling smoke. The furniture and curtains are smashed, shredded, and smoke-stained. The bodies of three well-dressed people lay unmoving on the floor. Before you can work up the nerve to enter, the smoke begins to move toward the open door, coalescing into several humanoid forms. A cloud of darker smoke hovers menacingly in the back of the room.
Creatures in the smoke are concealed.

Arrus takes quick aim, burying an alchemically-flaming bolt into one of the misty creatures before moving back to leave room for his allies. All three damage types seemed to have full effect.
-----
The creature on the far side of the room (#3) strides through the mist, forming a tentacle from the swirling mist and lashing out at Xanno.
Tentacle vs. Xanno: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Bludgeoning: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 7) + 6 = 16
The tentacle goes wide as its attention remains on Arrus. The mist surrounding it begins to solidify, closing in particularly on the man who just assaulted its ally. The red-outlined mist is now difficult terrain. In addition, Arrus, please make a Reflex save as the mist solidifies around you.
-----
The wounded figure (#1) moves closer to the doorway, lashing at Omble with its own tentacle.
Tentacle vs. Omble: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
Bludgeoning: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 8) + 6 = 15
As the tentacle strikes Omble, it wraps itself around the half-orc, grabbing him! Omble is grabbed.
-----
The menacing cloud of smoke flows forward, swirling around Omble and slashing at the half-orc with its claws.
Claw vs. Omble: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36 Crit vs. flat-footed Omble.
