1 person marked this as a favorite.

well this will certainly be exciting.

so lets find out what characters will become the Freedom Fighters to take down The Ironfang Legion....after fleeing for their lives of course.

What I want as an application-

You do not have to create a whole character unless you want to.

to apply I only need the following
A. Name B. Race C. Class D. what campaign trait they will be taking and E. why they are Phaendar on Market Day.

Crunch
1. No Evil At All. (theyd be more likely to see out the party and join the Legion)

2. 20 point Buy

3. Races allowed- Aasimar, Android, Changling, Dhampir, Dwarf, Elf, Fetchling, Gnome, Halfling, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Human, Ifrit, Oread, Ratfolk, Sylph, Tiefling, Undine

---no others. Please dont ask.

4. I will take all Paizo Classes except the Vigilante and the Vampire Hunter, and I may take a 3rd party class if I can see all of the details and I think it works.

5. We will be using Background Skills and the character will start with 3 of those not 2, but one has to be either Profession/Craft/Perform...and this is what youre doing for a living when the adventure kicks off.

6. Traits- No wealthy parents. No drawbacks. you get three traits. the campaign and 2 others.

7. Free Feats: Combat Expertise, Deadly Aim, Power Attack, Scribe Scroll as long as you meet the pre-requisites.

8. Average starting wealth

9. Max Hit Points for first (HD). then you can take half+1 of the HD or roll, taking whichever is higher....same for any Animal Companions or mounts.

10. I will be taking 6 players from those that apply.

who will be joining me

***I will keep the recruitment open til I get enough to get a fair shake on entrants. I dont like firm dates, as you end up making folks wait for one or two stragglers. I will give 24 hour notice for the submissions to be complete.

Wow, very cool GMMichael!

This is RH's Dwarf Paladin of Torag (stonelord). He's a, wait for it, Blacksmith! He is a Kraggodan Castaway (AP Trait) and he is in Phaendar on Market Day hoping he can take in some work with (or for) the local Blacksmith Kining Blondebeard.

Give him a look, let me know if I can answer any questions. How long will you be keeping the recruitment open?

Tarrow Harfoot, Halfling Rogue, Ironfang Survivor. Market Day is the perfect time for inconspicuous, fleet-fingered creatures to plunder pockets for trinkets and baubles, and hopefully piece together enough value to pay for a meal. Times are lean indeed.

Tarrow exists full-formed outside the site but I can port him in given a day or two.

This is the character I have waiting for a chance to get back into Ironfang Invasion.

He was in a good run, but my wife had a medical issue that forced me to ghost for a bit. When I could return, the GM had replaced me. No hard feelings on my side, as we both did what we needed to.

Barhador
is an Elf (ARG variant)
Feral Hunter.

His campaign trait is Foxclaw Scout.

He is in Phaendar on Market Day to provide some meat for the celebration and to continue his efforts to find a potential wife.

I have some work to do to de-level and adapt to your build rules.

Silver Crusade

I'm going to be submitting one of two characters. Not quite sure as of yet.

Arrak, a half-orc barbarian. Rough, harsh, and pragmatic, but possibly with a heart of gold hidden underneath. Ironfang survivor, he was attacked and left for dead by a small hobgoblin band. Hoping to tie the leader of the band into book one. (I know a few minor spoilers). Hes in town after "dealing" with the one that "rescued" him to recover. At first will remain aloof to most, but could, hopefully, find a place among them eventually. As he really just wants a place where he can belong. Despite boasting to the contrary.

Arrak will likely be taking many of the half-orc feats based around ferocity and the like. In other words, he will be exceptionally hard to kill.

Or a curious, and inquisitive gnome sorcerer, Xolen Zottenropple, who may be starting to deal with the bleaching. I'd like to use blight-burned, but with a couple of minor changes. Namely of which, him having "grown up" there. I'd rather he have encountered it traveling. He is in town now seeking the remarkably "interesting" life of an adventurer, to combat what he fears may be the bleaching. He is a mischief maker, and joker. He comes off as callous or uncaring due to his nature to try and look for the interesting side of things. Example- someone has a disease, if he hasn't seen it, he will call it "interesting" before "bad/sad".

Fey sorcerer, focused on the expected compulsion spells.

I'm leaning towards the gnome.

Name: Tenzo
Race: Human
Class: Fighter(gloomblade)
Campaign trait: frontier healer
Taking healer's hands feat
Heal, knowledge planes
Skill focus heal
Perception, stealth. Profession background you say? Combat medic (healer) baby!
Why am I here? Mercanary looking to make a few coin as a switch hitter

18 str 14 con 14 wis 8 cha 12 dx 10 int

Let's see: heal +1, +2 wis, +3 skill focus: 1+2+3+3+1 +10

Frontier Healer:

You make your way in life by putting people back together after the rigors of the world take their toll—brewing herbal remedies, setting broken bones, and treating diseases. You gain a +1 trait bonus on all Heal and Knowledge (nature) checks, and one of these skills is always a class skill for you. Any time you restore hit points using the Heal skill or a cure spell (but not with channeled energy, lay on hands, or a magic device such as a potion or wand), you restore 1 additional hit point, plus 1 for every 2 class levels you have beyond 1st.

Healer's hands:

Your healing efforts are bolstered by positive energy.

Prerequisite(s): Heal 1 rank, Knowledge (planes) 1 rank.

Benefit(s): You can use the Heal skill to treat deadly wounds as a full-round action. You do not take a penalty for not using a healer’s kit when treating deadly wounds this way, and you can do so on a given creature more than once per day. When treating deadly wounds this way, if your result exceeds the DC by 10 or more, add your ranks in Knowledge (planes) to the damage healed. These benefits do not apply to creatures that are not healed by positive energy.

You can use this feat’s benefit a number of times per day equal to your ranks in Knowledge (planes).

Name: Hollin Silverteeth, Race: Human, Class: Bard, Campaign Trait: World Weary, Reason for being at Phaendar on Market Day: Performing for coin so his sister and her husband don't get tempted to kick him out.

More details- Hollin left to fight for his country while young, too young in fact. With a head full of crazy ideas about the glory of war, he signed on with a Nimrathian company. A particularly nasty winter campaign showed him how there's little glorious in war. Most of the company died, and as soon as he could he returned home. Now he smiles, jokes and puts on a good show, but his dreams are still haunted. He hides behind music and a touch of hedonism to take his mind off bad dreams of men starving in the snow. His sister and her husband have provided him a roof over his head, but his devil may care facade works too well and they wish he'd take life seriously and stop lazing about.

Will work on stats and spell choice if accepted.

A. Rue Woodkind
B. Human
C. Ranger
D. Blight-Burned
E. Bringing some furs to trade on Market Day and as an opportunity to interact with some humans after a long stint of isolation in the woods.

Pallando Brightriver, halfling oracle (Pei Zin practitioner), a frontier healer in Phaendar this market day to pick up a gift for his mother.

I'll add more detail later.

Looks really interesting! I'd like to candidate with this character, which I can tweak for the purposes of this campaign.

A. Name: Zinli Steelworker
B. Race: Gnome
C. Class: Gunslinger
D. Trait: Ironfang Survivor
E. Why is she there? Zinli is a skilled weapon manufacturer. She's here to make gold by selling some of her products, and possibly try to find some kind of mercenary job that would befit her talents as a gunslinger.

Backstory:

Spoiler:
When Zinli's father grew tired of his brilliant career as a soldier, he decided to retire in a small Nirmathi village, away from the battlefields. There, he started a new career as a blacksmith, thinking that crafting weapons were now much more interesting than fighting with them, and married a baker. Zinli was the only child of the couple, and quickly took a keen interest in her father's work. She became his assistant in her early adulthood, but after a few years of working with him, she started to grow tired of a job that was becoming easier and easier. One day, however, while cleaning the family's attic, her father found an old, broken pistol, some worthless piece of junk that he had probably brought back from some front after failing to either fix or sell it, before putting it away and forgetting about it entirely.

As he was wondering what to do with it, Zinli offered her help. She studied it for days and nights, disassembling and reassembling it tirelessly, reading book after book on firearms and gunpowder, until she figured out how to make it work. When she announced her parents that this wonderful new technology would help her exploring the world and becoming an adventurer, they weren't that surprised. They kissed their daughter goodbye, and she left, thinking she would never return.

The first few weeks were a bliss as she travelled the country alone to her leisure, selling her talents or her weapons here and there to make some easy cash.

It all came to a crashing end, however, when, in her hubris, she challenge a couple of armor-clad hobgoblins belonging to the Ironfang Legion in a bar to a shooting contest, crossbows versus pistol. Unbeknownst to her, they were better versed in the wielding of clubs than the shooting of crossbows, and quite sore losers. They ambushed her as she got back in the road in the morning, beat her up half to death, and would have made off with her weapon if a group of adventurers, alerted by her screaming, would not have interfered.

It took her days to be capable of standing up, and, with almost no money, she had to return to her parents' house.

Now, a few months after the attack, she has agreed to help her father sell his weapons at Phaendar's Market Day, but secretly hasn't given up her dreams of adventure.

A. Name: Athrehon
B. Race: Human
C. Class: Wizard (Universalist)
D. Trait: Unbreakable Survivor
E. Recently relieved of his assistant position with a reputable wizard for his "overzealous" defense of the wizard's tower when a rival mage sought to break into the tower's vault, and his master was away.

Or perhaps this is the secret mission that the Fey Queen sent my other character, Falkwyn on in the Hollows game? LOL. Just kidding

I'll be choosing between a Cleric and a Ninja character.....

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Here's the link to the Ironfang Invasion Player's guide if someone is looking for it.

List of current Character Ideas folks have submitted or being decided on;

Robert - Dwarf Paladin of Torag (stonelord)
Therenger - Halfling Rogue
Hustonj - Elf Hunter
rorek55 - half-orc barbarian or gnome sorcerer
Edelsmirge - Human Fighter(gloomblade)
Ridge - Human Bard
Delightful - Human Ranger
avr - halfling oracle (Pei Zin practitioner)
Ythiel - Gnome Gunslinger
Plastic Dragon - Human Wizard (Universalist)
RHMG - Tiefling (Cleric or Ninja)

Going through the Irongfang Invasion Player's guide, are we going to be using the Militia System?

Sovereign Court

Ironfnag sounds cool. I will take a look at the guide and see if inspiration strikes.

Paint me interested!

The challenge is to build something that I am not currently playing

And

that fits the theme.

Time to research!

Thank you for running!

Here I thought that I'm done with 1st edition... but Ironfang Invasion is just too good to pass up. I'll throw my hat in.

A. Name: Andras Teoss
B. Race: Human
C. Class: Magus (Hexcrafter, Staff Magus)
D: Trait: World-Weary
E: Andras is an older gentleman who just happens to live in a little cabin on the outskirts of Phaendar. No one interacts with him much except for days like this when he comes to the town, leaning on his trusty walking stick, to buy some tools and meat in exchange for the produce of his garden and perhaps an old book or two. Local children gossip that it's best to stay out of his sight cause he's got an evil eye - a rumor that he doesn't do much to quell. He doesn't talk much about his past, saying that he made it this far specifically to leave it all behind and retire in peace.

A. Hjorleaf Asvidrson
B. Human
C. Fighter
D. Ironfang survivor
E. Got separated while raiding the orchestra. he is just trying to get home.

I will adjust this character soon.

Thanks for running this.

A. Name: Vriska Galerider
B. Race: Half-Orc
C. Class: Cavalier (Beast Rider, Order of the Beast)
D. Trait: Chernasardo Hopeful (If I can take this as an Order of the Beast cavalier? I think it makes sense given that the Order skills are Knowledge: Nature and Survival, and you get a bonus to track.)
E. Vriska is in Phaendar to resupply, spend a night or two in an actual bed, enjoy food that she didn't have to cook and drink other than water. She loves the wilderness, but sometimes a person wants a hot bath, a warm bed, and a beer or two.

Mechanically, I'm going full on mounted combat. Going by the Player's Guide, we'll be spending more time outdoors than dungeon delving. I look forward to riding increasingly fearsome animals into battle! As a cavalier, Vriska can provide good damage, mobility, group buffs, and the skills for party face. With Order of the Beast, she has a couple skills that should come in handy for this campaign.

Im considering it. Havent made that decision yet.

Edit: addition

Torilgrey - Half-orc, Ranger (Nirmathi Irregular)
Dorian 'Grey' - Half-Orc Druid (Storm)

Okay, so full disclosure, I'm running this right now, but I'd like to submit a character

Marvas the Younger, Half-orc, Ranger (Nirmathi Irregular), Ironfang Survivor, and in Phaendar because its Market day! and what better day for a woodland scout to come to town, resupply, buy some things, and enjoy the end of winter!

I'm working up a full character, but work's also real busy this week.

I'd toyed with the idea of a Dwarven Stonelord Paladin classing into fighter (foehammer), but I see someone already put that one in so I skipped it.

A. Name: Arkhan Silvinesti
B. Race: Half-Orc
C. Class: Druid (Storm)
D. Trait: World-Weary:
E. Fleeing The Bleeding Storm....

I just got this fantastically fun idea of using my Storm Druid (who was in an All-Orc Giant Slayer; but it died a while ago) as a refugee, fleeing in Phaendar by happenstance; only to get caught up in a chance at redemption!

He is in my Alias; but I will work him down to your specs.
I will also write up a continuation of his Backstory to connect everything!

Thanks!

Silver Crusade

Actually.... I think I may submit a cleric or inquisitor(sacred hunstman) of erastil. Seeing so many martials, I'm hesitant to submit yet another barbarian.

Entrants so far.

1. Robert Henry- Brunner Hammerfall Dwarven Paladin {Stonelord of Torag} Kraggodan Castaway
2. Therenger- Tarrow Harfoot Halfling Rogue Ironfang Survivor

16. RHMG Animator- ??
17. GeraintElberion- ??

wow some great character ideas.

I think I'll be going with the teifling cleric, as we currently have a number of skilled characters, and only one full divine casters when I thought of the idea, and it seems to of grown on me more then the pure ninja.

I might go with a gnome fey sorcerer, but also very interested in building a ratfolk psychic. Will work out details tonight.

Might as well toss my hat in the ring!

Name: Severina Devil-Luck
Race: Human
Class: Skald (Boaster)
Trait: World-Weary

Market Day is incidental - Severina is working odd jobs to get to know her cautious new neighbors, playing the occasional tune, and enjoying the novelty of not having to follow orders, but she's really in Phaendar by chance, not choice. It's where the roads led, and it's a nice enough little town. Good a place as any to lay up and get her bearings back.

A grizzled, long-service Molthuni grunt who's still recovering from a vicious, life-altering wound, Sev is just another of the stream of battered veterans trickling away from the front lines, distinguished only by whose tattered uniform she's wearing. She's sick to death of war, and is running out of limbs and blood to donate to the glorious cause.

When faced with the prospect of returning to the front and tossing herself back in the meatgrinder, she did something that surprised even herself - she deserted, and what's more, headed north, across the border, to try her luck at starting fresh among the supposed enemy. 'Sides, it's safer. The hobs and their trouble will never make it this far, right?

Sovereign Court

A. Seren Elberion
B. Elf
C. Magus (Eldritch Archer) or Bard (Arrowsong Minstrel)
D. Blight-burned
E. To trade, of course!

Seren is an elf who survived her experience of blight-burn but her process of healing, both physical and mental, involved living on the border between wilderness and civilisation, able to flee from or to either at a moment. She lives on the outskirts of Phaendar but comes into the village once or twice a week to trade and talk with her few friends. Over the past few years her trips to Phaendar have become more recent, she has lingered a little longer and she has come at busier times.
In her cottage (solidly fenced for security) she makes... and this soothing process allows her to find her peace and provide for herself (along with hunting in the woods and tending her allotment garden).

I like the idea of an elven archer/caster who has made most of her recovery and is just reaching the point where she wants to spend more time with other people and kind of reconnect with the world.

I can picture her either as the eldritch archer, in which case she would be a weaver and dyer who creates strange and wonderful cloths, or an arrowsong minstrel, in that case she would write songs and music.

Her blightburn is across her back but it is huge, covering most of the flesh on the back of her torso and creeping up around her neck to be visible to the outside world. Part of her herb garden is set aside for medicinal plants that make a paste which soothes the pains she still gets from the blightburn, all these years later.

I like both ideas enough, and they are close enough, that I would probably take a look at the rest of the group and then decide whether the party needs more of a buffer/face or a knowledge/self-buffer.

Might as well:

A.Paulier Ovicus
B. Human
C. Magus (Eldritch Scion)
D. Ironfang Survivor
E. Given that he lives there, it's mainly to enjoy the festivities... even though he's supposed to be keeping the peace.

Paul was born in raised in Phaendar along with a younger brother who has recently moved off to a location in Numeria. He has a rather estranged relationship with his parents who think of him as a slacker. While shown to be just as intelligent as his wizard brother, he was more interested in fulfilling his more martial needs.

He got his wish when he entered the Forest Marshalls along with a number of other people. It was there that he made a lot of friends. Unfortunately, one particular battle with Molthune's Ironfang Legion caused him to quit. While he remains his happy-go-lucky self, there were signs that the battle left him scarred emotionally.

Paul has no really goals other than to live the life the way he wants, matching the free spirit of the nation of Nirmathas. Any effort he dishes out is out of necessity. What he fears the most is being forced on the spot to lead when no one else would as he had to do with the Forest Marshalls. While he has little ill-will towards hobgoblins, he does hold a slight fear of them.

When stressed, his time and true strategy is laugh at the face of danger while spouting jokes. Yet this is a ruse in order to get in his opponents' head as he devises a plan to gain an advantage.

Hmm, looking at the favored terrain suggestions in the Player's Guide, we'll be spending time underground. Would I be better off with a gnome or halfling cavalier? But a half-orc charging into battle on bison-back would be so awesome... what to do, what to do...

This AP sounds really interesting and Nirmathas is kind of a cool country to be adventuring in, so on with my character.

A. Name: Therion Frostleaf
B. Race: Elf
C. Class: Arcanist
D. Trait: Blight-Burned
E. Buying supplies and more mundane material components before going back to his quiet home at the edge of Phaendar to continue with his studies

Just saw the question marks for my char in the summary...going with Exploiter Wizard, I think, as the former apprentice, scrambling to make do, and flying by the seat of his educated pants. ;)

I was more wondering Universalist/evoker/etc...

on and question marks next to Human indicate that mild curiousity over sub ethnicity....Varisian, Kellid, Taldan, Shoanti, etc...

A. Name: Nate GoodKnight
B. Race: Teifling (Succubus: reflavored Rakshasa-Spawn)
C. Class Cleric (Theologian: Strength)
D. campaign trait: Frontier Healer
E. why they are Phaendar on Market Day:
Working as a Barmaid to pay off a large tab and kept fed after a cut purse swiped her coin pouch.

1. Robert Henry- Brunner Hammerfall Dwarven Paladin {Stonelord of Torag} Kraggodan Castaway
2. Therenger- Tarrow Harfoot Halfling Rogue Ironfang Survivor
3. hustonj- Barhador Elf {Gyrgan-Wild} Hunter {Feral Hunter} Foxclaw Scout

”Bah! These starry-eyed fools think their table will survive past the first book. Trusting people blindly like that is a good way to wake up dead. It’s everyone out for themselves out here...”

Herman is an incredibly sour hedge witch who was part of a campaign that fell apart most of the way through the first book of the AP - I’d love a chance to get to see him through the rest of the story (and the beginning - weird campaign). His backstory and more details can be found in his profile, and he’d of course have to be de-leveled back to 1. As far as submission requirements:

A. Herman (aka Herman the Hermit, Herman the Recluse, That Crazy Old Man Who Lives In The Woods And Smells Like Squirrel Piss)
B. Human
C. Witch (herb witch archetype)
D. Blight-Burned
E. What, you think I can just make a replacement for jade dust and an alembic out of dried fennel and happy thoughts? Grow up and tell me if you want to trade any reagents for these poultices - or stop wasting my time.

I do have a few questions for the GM:

1. Given the themes of survival and self-sufficiency in this adventure, how much do you see the Crafting rules and creation of items/equipment coming into play? Are feats like Brew Potion and Craft Wondrous Item useful (or even valid) choices for this campaign?
2. If crafting equipment is something that will be used during this adventure, would you allow Herman to take the Hedge Magician trait? It lowers the final cost of crafted items by 5%.
3. The Cauldron hex (which the Herb Witch archetype is locked into at lvl 2) states that it grants a +4 insight bonus to Craft (alchemy) checks. The Herb Witch archetype also has a class feature called Herb Lore, which allows the witch to use Profession (herbalist) in place of any Craft (alchemy) check. Would the insight bonus from the required Cauldron hex transfer to Profession (herbalist) checks?

to answer you Herman...

1. Yes, I see them coming into play. though probably not a focus. If we use the Militia rules, the group has resources to tap as well.

2. yes.

3. not totally. only to 'potion brewing' so to speak..

GMMichael:

Working on the conversion/update, and I have to ask . . ..

If we can succeed on crafting while taking 10 (and have purchased the tools required), can we start with self-crafted gear?

Heck, since you "gave" us Scribe Scroll, can I start with any self-scribed scrolls?

"No" doesn't hurt the build at all. But it isn't often that I build a character with a craft skill that directly applicable. Not even sure what I'll do if you say "yes." Maybe I'll use the money saved on the bow to have a (some?) CLW scrolls. Maybe.

The rebuild has Barhador with BOTH Craft (Bowyer) and Profession (Hunter), BTW.

I am basically down to updating the purchases, I think.

No self crafted items to begin with.

A Q: If you already have one of the bonus feats (scribe scroll) from your class do you get a replacement?

GMMichael wrote:

After a bit of searching through the avatars and looking up the different ethnicities, I believe I'll go with him being from Garund, a Garundi, Exploiter Wizard.

Obviously he wouldn't be native to Phaendar, but will have moved to the area with his mentor when he was a much younger apprentice.

Cool.

Actually easier that way.

@GM

Would you be open to psychic casting? I've not had the chance to really test it out, and figured I would ask, as it would still fit fairly well as a bloodline.

Not quite, It would a sorcerer, but using the psychic bloodline.

They would cast their sorcerer spells as psychic spells, like an occult caster.

I'd likely flavor it to have -something- to do with the blight fey and the like. Possibly even mixing in the bleaching to it.

absolutely. I just looked at it. I like it
