With no luck from the party Otari reach out once more and snuffs out the wisp.
The ghost more fully manifests and introduces themselves "Heroes, I thought nobody would ever come! I've been tortured by those awful eyes for almost longer than I can remember. I am Otari Ilvashti, doomed here after Belcorra defeated us at Gauntlight. I barely survived when she collapsed the room. With rubble separating me from her, I ran from her awful tongue devils, finding a secret door down, I hid in a tub for a bit but her monsters still roamed that level. So I went deeper. After being severely wounded by an immense otyugh I found myself trapped here where I think I passed. Ever since then those awful Eyes have tormented, it never let up, for years! for decades! for centuries!?! I don't know..."
Yan (20/56) Sickened 1
Sendoski (35/35)
Scarred One (17/56)
Oorgatch (20/54)

Oorgatch |

"Thank you for the help, Otari." replies Oorgatch.
"I do believe that you are correct in that you appear now to be a ghost of some sort. Do not worry, though, we truly will not hold this against you."
The young orc looks towards Yan with a crooked grin on his face.
"We believe it to be centuries, truth be told."

Yan Tovis |

If only you could sign m- — I mean, Sendoski's — book! Yan fawns over Otari, and seems happy he chose his shadow to possess. He doesn't;t try to get rid of his wooziness.
Thank you for helping us. I am glad you are free of your torment now. How might we help you, Otari?

Pirate GM |

The ghost of Otari responds, "Belcorra lives on somehow, deep underground here, her influence slowly expanding. I expect she fully intends to fully reactivate Gauntlight and use it to begin her long-delayed attack on Absalom. It can transport monsters long distances and animate the dead with its light. She must be put to rest before she can finish this task. None of us knew of this horrible weapon before or even a basement, let alone as massive as this complex seems to be existed. I only learned about it after fleeing from our defeat. Something about this place, it increases the manifestation of ghosts and the like. I can hear it whispering. At first I thought it was just a side effect from Gauntlight, but I have come to suspect it is something much more ominous below..."

Yan Tovis |

We’ve been looking for you. Ahhh, I have good news… Bellacora was defeated by your friends. They retired here and founded a settlement, which they named after you. They’ve even written books and ballads about the Roseguard — Sendoski and I own several copies of these books — alas, they aren’t on my person.
Yan explains Scarred One’s vision, town history, and the party’s efforts — chasing glowing letters and delving ruins filled with moldy tubs and worms-that-walk, to the ghost.
He also tells Otari about the reactivation of the lighthouse and Wryn’s foretellings.
Something sinister does indeed stir, Otari. We are trying to stop it. Whatever help an ancient hero such as you can offer, we’ll gladly take.
Yan takes a long breath. As if torn between meeting a hero and doing his duty to Ashava.
And when all is said and done, what can we do to give you peace? Does it help you to know your friends loved you, and lived?

Pirate GM |

The ghost responds. "They lived!?! They won!?! I've seen nothing but visions of defeat here for so long... The Belcorra I sense below must be a ghost as well then. I'm not sure how to stop her but know that it must be done... I knowledge of this place is very clouded but I can see the way down past the barrier, the barrier powered by the souls of Belcorra's defeated enemies. But if the Roseguard succeeded then perhaps our symbols represent her defeat and would open the way. Yes... foul symbols to open the way... Please, make use of my gear it saddens me to see it rot here."
On the ancient skeletal corpse here is a set of infiltrator thieves’ tools, a dagger of venom, a sneaky key, and +1 studded leather armor.
Looking a bit more serious "I seem to be bound to this level, unable to venture far, although with those Eyes gone I think I could leave this room at least. I feel that two things could set me free. Please agree to take up the mantle of the Roseguard and commit to defeating Belcorra, and secondly there's some sort of hideous worm I see in my dreams. I presume it lurks nearby. I sense it must be defeated for me to be free."

![]() |

"Yes, yes, and thousand yeses!" Sendoski says to taking up the mantle of the Roseguard.
"We came back to put an end to that worm, so consider it done!"
Sendoski looks to his friends to back up his confidence. Naught doesn't look too sure.

Scarred One |

Scarred One listened to Yan and Sendoski speaking with the ghost.
"Yeah, we were going to go after Belcorra anyways. Can you tell us something about the worm?" the old one finds a place to sit and rest

Oorgatch |

”Sounds like a plan ” replies Oorgatch, clearly more interested in the gear than the stories. Almost all of it seems suited for him to use, which isn’t surprising given Otari’s role in life.

Pirate GM |

Otari responds "I can only see it in my dreams, but I can tell it's holding me here, be it one worm or a thousand, it sometimes feels like both. If it is on this level let me join you in battle, knowing my allies won has given me heart once again. When you're ready to descend seek out Aesephna Menhemes' holy symbol, Zarmavdian's spellbook and Vol Rajani's longsword."

Oorgatch |

"Otari, do we need to find those first? Before we fight the worm? Or is this something that we'll need later?" asks the younger orc.

Oorgatch |

"Thank you.
"Quick question, that I likely know the answer to. When we go back up, would you like us to bring your body with, so that we can properly bury it? Is there a deity that you pay homage to that you would like represented in a ceremony?"

Yan Tovis |

I think you are best served if we prepare for the battles ahead. First, we may be able to finish exploring the other areas of this level. Will you accompany us? Is Otari still manifested in Yan's shadow, making him Sick?
Think there are some "safer" areas we can check up here. Like the secret door to the North from Worm-bay

Pirate GM |

"Anywhere is better than this wretched place. Never was very religious but I suspect I could use Pharasma's help the most now. I'd he happy to join you for a tour of this level... I think I can move freely around here."
Otari is not continuously manifesting in Yan's shadow, but Yan still feels ill, in fact he seems to have some of the same pock marks that Otari's ghostly form does.

Scarred One |

Scarred One rubs his cheek
"Let us collect the remains when we leave, we still have some fighting to do here. You should know, Otari, those two are your great fans. When we go back to town they would probably tell everyone about you."
The orc stands up and heads towards the secret passage.

Yan Tovis |

Yan nods. Exactly, Sendoski. I own many books on the subject in fact!]
Yan frowns. More wisps!?

Scarred One |

"Looks like it, maybe if we will find how to destroy that altar they will stop showing."
Would Scarred One Expert in Religion +13 + Dubious Knowledge tell him something?

Oorgatch |

"Let's be ready. Otari, are you going to help?" asks Oorgatch. "Poison doesn't work against the wisps, right?"

Pirate GM |

[oco]No immunity to poison that you encountered before on the wisps.[/ooc]
Otari nods "The Eyes of Empty death are no friends of mine."
Before you're able to move forward to engage the wisps in the altar room though the secret door across the way opens and Volluk Azrinae emerges, his worms writhing.
There's a moment of silence as you look at each other across the hall before combat breaks out.

Otari wastes no time, combing the speed of a rogue with the speed of the dead as he floats through the room, disapearing into the far wall, clearly planning on working towards the back side of Volluk
