"Friar Robun, do you have the ability to determine if something magical is here and in the water? Like you did with the items before? What ever is or isn't here could be hidden by magic."

Orst looks puzzled, "I thought this was a passage to somewhere. I guess it is just a cavern. And probably, a deadly place to swim."

For detect magic under water you would need to enter the water as water blocks the spell I think.

I don't think water blocks it. See the section on barriers from the spell description below

Detect Magic wrote:
The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it.

Sorry, hat underwater rules in mind but only fire and attack rolls are blocked by water.

The only magic is the continual flame spell under the water.

"I was only concerned the said monster was hiding somehow. Maybe with an illusion. But, I guess there is nothing here. Let's be off. Lead on Frost."
Orst makes ready to leave keeping the rapier out and shield ready though.

Even after several minutes in the cavern there is no activity except of the water clashing against the walls continuously.

As you want to leave I just wanted to remind you that you have not fully won the trust of the other Pathfinders. I will move on to the docks in the next scene.

Orst approaches Frost, "Frost, a word please." He walks a small way away from the group. "I feel we are leaving unfinished business here. I think if we leave without getting the other pathfinders story, we will regret it. There is something else we need to do here, but without you appealing to those poor souls that were betrayed, we will never find it. You are our leader, I ask you to make one more run at their story. It means more coming from the leader of our group.
Orst nods his head. "Please."

He then walks over to help the ex slaves and to check the pirates bonds to insure they are secure, especially those of Phlegos.

Frost's brow furrows for a moment as she considers the request "All right then, suppose we give them another chance to have a think about who is who and what is what"

Frost presents herself in front of the former Pathfinder-slaves "We need to get a few things straight here - who we are, what we are doing, and then what is happening from here"

Frost taps on her holy symbol "I am Frost. This is the symbol of Ragathiel, I am one of his many hands of righteous vengeance, the blood of angels runs through my veins. Ragathiels magic runs through me as I have been deemed righteous and good - a fit vessel for his divine blessings, and you have seen his righteous vengeance being laid down upon your captors"

"Over here" she points to Orst "We have my companion Orst. He is blessed by Iomedae as I am blessed by Ragathiel. Even the most ignorant Ogre is aware that Iomedae is the goddess of righteous valor, justice, and honor. Whilst Ragathiel and Iomedae may have some differences in the philosophies of their shared interest - there is no dispute that they agree with the principles of honor and righteousness in the defense of good and the battle against evil"

"Friar Roburn" she then indicates the fine Friar "One of the guiding lights of Sarenrae - temperance, patience, compassion, and peace.
The goddess surely has blessed the good Friar to spread her great message of peace and compassion"

"The fox and my companion Ryker have both acted with conviction and disregard to own safety in defeating our foes - your captors"

"This brings us to the 'why', well we were sent here to catch this horrid betrayer, preferrably alive, and bring him in for questioning to determine the whereabouts of missing Pathfinders - that's right - once the treachery was suspected a team - us - were dispatched to investigate the matter, and now you are rescued"

"So what now? Well now we all get back on a ship and depart this place. We see that justice is meted out on those to whom it is coming - with some clemency to those who had the good sense to cooperate - and then we get back to Absalom with the traitor in chains and hand him over for what fate awaits him. No doubt the recent friendships with the Hellknight Orders the Pathfinders seem to have made will see him familiar with an oubliette"

"So then that brings us to all of you. Two deities and an Empyral Lord vouching for us should suggest to you that there's a reason to trust us. I understand your suspicions, and they are yours to keep, but perhaps your judgment of us is based on bad blood elsewhere. You may wish to look around at what has happened, see your captors in chains, see the chains off your wrists, and think about joining us as fellow Pathfinders"

Diplomacy 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34

Kaborghia smiles after Frost’s speech.

“You are absolutely right. We owe you a lot ... we would probably soon be dead without you. And your characters and actions speak for yourself!“

He looks at his companions and then back to you.

“Phlegos had sent us to investigate a lead on this small island. Shortly before Phlegos was forced to flee Katapesh, we had reported an astounding find: this sprawling estate filled with ancient relics, as well as graven tablets procured from Katheer’s Venicaan College! We do not know where Phlegos has put these tablets! But we were able to find out much about them and will report to Ambrus!“ he says.

He does not speak more of his mission. “But as your mission obviously was to save us and get Phlegos ... Phlegos loved collect evidence of all those slaves that he had and eventually killed! I think he tried to hide chips of stone engraved with the names of the dead. They are called death tokens. They contain the names of all the slaves who had died while under Jirandiel’s control. There is a pile of them, buried by the docks.”

Again he thanks you for rescuing them.

"Looks like we all now know what we need to know. Time to collect those stones and get to the ship"

With that you Pathfinders are planning to leave the island.

Returning to your landing site, you see a small dock that offers several cleats and mooring poles for docking smaller boats, such as fishing vessels and very small single mast ships.

A large sloop, configured for hauling cargo, is anchored near the dock. A large pile of lumber peaks out from a tarp, just past the tree line.

Several storage sheds dot the area, most of them looking poorly built or neglected.

With the help of Kaborghia Ryker and Walla find a small mound of earth in the woods. Buried two feet deep is a sack with dozens of stone chips, each engraved with the name of a dead slave.

The Pathfinders sloop is still present, they can sail back to their waiting vessel.

The Waveriders Revenge, Jirandiel's ship also sits off-shore.

Anything else before leaving the island? The trip is two days so if anyone wanted to copy spells from the pirate's book or formulas from the alchemist, please say so :)

"the name tokens could help with the case against Phlegos, plus give closure to relatives missing pathfinders." " Phlegos probably did not do his own digging, could one of you pathfinders show me where to dig?"

Orst will dig up and collect the names Phlegos saved. Then he will return to the ship and agree that the pirate vessel should be searched and volunteers to go on the boarding party.

You travel out to the Waverider’s Revenge to take it from the pirates. The clipper only has a handful of inexperienced crew members onboard and doesn’t pose a challenge; they can easily intimidate the crew into sailing the ship back to Sedeq.

Taking the pirate's ship is actually a reporting point, and may be relevant in future scenarios.

With Jirandiel Waverider and her vicious crew defeated, the shipping lanes between Jalmeray and Absalom are once again safe to sail.

The Pathfinders were able to rescue Kaborghia, he is much more coherent after a few days of rest and nourishment. However, he still refuses to talk about the Venicaan College tablets he found, insisting he’ll only speak with Ambrus Valsin, though a disturbing glimmer dances in his eyes.

Since the party captured Phlegos Dulm, Karisa showers accolades on the Pathfinders, “The Decemvirate will be quite impressed with you, and pleased to deal with this traitor themselves. I have a few questions for him regarding some of those missing or killed Pathfinder agents, too.” she says with desperation and disgust in her voice.

"I am certain I speak for everyone when I say that we were pleased to be of service to the Society and to put an end to the foul practices of these pirates and slavers. Phelgos was not exactly helpful and I think he would say or do just about anything to pass the buck and put others in the frame for his sins. No doubt he will get his due however"
