GM Niles |

Reknar knows the coins are old, but not exactly how old. They're of a design he can't recognize. However, they *are* Absalomian.
There's a trap. It's labeled on the map. It's not easy to spot, but once you do you can bypass it. It's DC 20 perception to spot it, with a +3 bonus since it's been called out.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Charyx speaks out That trap there looks kobold made. We favor traps and snares, I'd be surprised if there weren't more ahead, especially if a tribe has made it's home down here somewhere.

Reknar |

Picking up his rapier Staryth says "Well, thanks again for making me not dead, Reknar."
"You are welcome, though I cannot pull out many of those healing 'stunts' - Reknar nods - "You can do as you wish, but if you are interested in advice, I'd say wait for Kromnir or Amunet to engage before you head into the fray" - the half-orc suggests - "Then you can pick-off your targets one by one. And if you are caught in a bad position, do not hesitate in retreating to a safer one"
Flipping one of the coins they found - "This mint is pretty old, though I cannot say how old though. Anyone can make anything out of the ring?" - he passes the items about.
I am assuming the sword has no secrets to uncover? :D
Then he moves to join the others.
GM Niles, each one of us needs to roll that perception to bypass the trap?

Amunet-Ra |

I for one would appreciate if you follow up a bit faster and don't spread out too much. Let me have a look at those coins. And the statues.
Religion with guidance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
I think i failed my check to spot it? Might be good when our rogue disarms traps before everyone passes, else it's probably just a question of dice luck before it gets activated in general.

GM Niles |

Yes each person rolls a perception. I rolled for Daxur and Staryth as they passed it in combat. So far Staryth, Daxur, Kromnir and Charyx have spotted the trap and can avoid it as they pass. I guess if no one disables it I'll have everyone roll to spot it again if you pass back this way.
Daxur and Staryth are in the room with the "desk" (it's not really a desk)
Everyone else is in the abandoned storeroom.
You can assume what you want about the sword....but I wouldn't
The Room with the "desk"
Two stone statues of priests stand in the corners along one side of the room, facing a towering statue of a man holding out both of his hands, palms up. In front of this statue is a stone altar
DC 10 Religion to recognize this as an altar to Abadar

Staryth |

Staryth moves to the trap, seeing it is hard for folks to notice, "Good advice. No needless risks though to be fair, they shoved me first so I got cranky." A beat "Want me to remove this trap? It's risky but I don't want someone forgetting where it is."

GM Niles |

Apologies. Amunet did set off the trap =/ I totally missed her saying she went in there. One of the downfalls of PBP I guess
Amunet takes a set into the hall, right as Staryth shouts Not that one! and she steps onto a rigged tile. The tile knocks a thin cord out of place which causes two large stones to drop into the hallway!
Ranged Attacks: 2d20 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 +8
Amunet though, being forewarned of the traps was on guard and manages to dodge the falling stones.
LOL all that hype for literally nothing

Amunet-Ra |

LoL indeed^^ I just didn't want to pretend that didn't happen. Good thing it kind of didn't!
Stepping into the hallway Amunet-Ra heard Staryths call and quickly stepped aside, right before some heavy stones fell from the ceiling.
She looks at the stones then at Staryth.
Good timing. Maybe next time we can mark that somehow? Maybe i have some chalk or something.
By the way, this is clearly an altar of Abadar.

Kromnir Deepcairn |

"Well that was close! We definitely need ta watch where we're steppin' in this place," he says as he looks up and around, wondering how many more 'rock' traps there might be. Moving up to the desk, he looks about it. "Any idea why a blasted desk is in the middle of nowhere? It doesn't make any sense. Somebody carried this thing down here for a reason. At least, that's what I'm thinkin' anyhow. Suppose it's got a hidden somethin' or other somewhere?" he asks, quite curious.

Reknar |

Reknar is still looking over the items they found previously, and his eyes glow softly with occult magic.
Detect Magic on the coins, ring and sword :P
Then he will follow after the others.

GM Niles |

The sword is most definitely magical. When looking at the blade using the detect magic spell, it has runes that light up.

Reknar |

Reknar smiles when he sees the runes - "There you are..."
"This sword is definitely magical" - he informs the others, joining them in the next room - "But it will take a few minutes to discern exactly what it does. Let me know when you want to take a break"
It takes 10 minutes and a roll, right?

Staryth |

Good timing. Maybe next time we can mark that somehow? Maybe i have some chalk or something.
By the way, this is clearly an altar of Abadar.
"Yes well I think that's wise" He agrees with her and finds some chalk and outlines the area around the trap with a skull design with words in Elvish and Taldan
DANGER! TRAP! OUCHIE SPOT! DO NOT STEP HERE! SIDE EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE BLEEEDING TO DEATH

Reknar |

We were waiting until we took a break Daxur. But thanks anyway ;)
GM Niles, I think Daxur had searched the altar - did he find anything in particular?

GM Niles |

Daxur's search of the altar reveals nothing untoward. It's an Altar to Abadar.
Daxur spends 10 minutes studying the short sword and knows that it is a +1 Shortsword.
Magical weapons are much different in pf2e. +1 means it has a fundamental rune giving it +1 to hit. No bonus to damage
Are there any Abadar worshippers in the party?
There are basically 3 options for movement if the party wishes to move from their location.
1) Through the open door into the large room beyond
2) Through the closed door
3) Back to the surface

Amunet-Ra |

So there's just this altar with nothing on it and 3 statues going on in this room?
Amunet-Ra takes a good look around the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

GM Niles |

Well, there was some stuff but its not really appropriate for PBP. It was like an "in person" puzzle.

Kromnir Deepcairn |

I say let's check out the closed door.(#2)
Kromnir notices the door and makes his way to it. "Looks like we've got ourselves another room to investigate, lot." He then checks the door to see if it's open.

Daxur |

Daxur points to one of the more prominent runes on the sword, "Look here, this makes the blade more potent, it will penetrate armor and such more easily."
Satisfied that he'd educated any who'd listen , he follows Kromnir over to the door, "Indeed, a closed door is an opportunity..."

Reknar |

Magical weapons are much different in pf2e. +1 means it has a fundamental rune giving it +1 to hit. No bonus to damage
Boooo! :D
Are there any Abadar worshippers in the party?
I guess not Niles.
Daxur points to one of the more prominent runes on the sword, "Look here, this makes the blade more potent, it will penetrate armor and such more easily."
"Nice find this" - Reknar listens to Daxur - "These short blades are deceptively good weapons - they are fast, light and versatile. Good for slashing or piercing" - he adds.
Holding onto the blade for now. Anyone is free to claim it.
Then he moves stands ready as Kromnir checks the door.

Staryth |

Not an abadar worshiper
Staryth moves to the closed door and also gives it a look over "Alright."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Bonus if trap involved
as he looks over the door, "Yes, I prefer a rapier, but a short blade can work well in tight tunnels. I realize traditionally I'm supposed to drool over it, but if you want it I won't fuss, or anyone else. As far as I know I'm the only one who fell down on the job so far" a bit embarrassed but he chuckles "Mind you, I fell down because of blades in my gut, but I still fell down."
To speed things up IF there appears to be a trap, he will warn others to back up, ,and try to remove it. I leave the roll of Thievery ty to the GM. If it has no trap but has a lock, he will try to Unlock it . Ditto on the roll but trapfinder feat maybe in play

GM Niles |

Staryth checks the door and while he doesn't think it's trapped. It's certainly locked.
SEKRETROLLTHATISNTTHIEVERYEXCEPTTHATITIS: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Staryth tries to pick the locking mechanism....but Abadar has a dim view of interlopers and his thieves tools break. I'm going to assume you had those, and they now have the broken condition.
The lock is jammed. The only way into that room is through a stone door. You could do it, but it would take time, and alot of effort.

Amunet-Ra |

Amunet-Ra gently pets her scimitar.
Sarenrae cherishes the scimitar and so do it. It is the best sword.
Then she looks at Staryth.
Can you get that door open or not? Shall we break it in? Would that be for you Kromnir?

Kromnir Deepcairn |

Kromnir shrugs. "That's solid stone, lass. I'm not sure any of us could break it down. Or break it in. Or whatever. I mean, we could try but it'd take us a wee bit of time. And when I say 'wee' I mean a long time. I do have a crowbar though. Ya think if we bust the lock that could do it?" Not awaiting a response, he pulls out his crowbar and tries to force open the door.
I've no idea if forcing this door open is even a possibility but I figure it's worth a shot.
Athletics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Kromnir Deepcairn |

Giving a chuckle, "Yeah, well, I guess he's got a point there," he says as he scratches the back of his head.

Reknar |

Reknar approaches Kromnir with advice on how to pry the door open, and tries to assist as possible.
Casting Guidance on Kromnir before he tries, and then aiding him.
Athletics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
I think that totals 15+1+2 = 18?

Amunet-Ra |

Amunet-Ra frowns to Staryth and Komnirs comments.
Athletics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Then she murmurs a short prayer to Sarenrae and tries to "open" the door herself.
Long lived mh? Maybe you're just moving through time like slugs hehe. And this gives "ladies first" a whole new meaning!

GM Niles |

Everyone throws themselves at the door using the crowbar...and unfortunately the crowbar breaks. Crit failures are rough

Reknar |

"Yes, I prefer a rapier, but a short blade can work well in tight tunnels. I realize traditionally I'm supposed to drool over it, but if you want it I won't fuss, or anyone else. As far as I know I'm the only one who fell down on the job so far"
"You are confusing me a tad Staryth" - Reknar chuckles - "Just take the blade and make good use of it" - he nods, passing the shortsword to the rogue without a second thought.
I think it being Agile means it is right up your alley, right Staryth?
Everyone throws themselves at the door using the crowbar...and unfortunately the crowbar breaks. Crit failures are rough
"Well, nothing we can do" - the half-orc shrugs - [b]"But we will have to break through it one way or another eventually - it is the only way we can guarantee these caves are safe"[b]
So let us push through the door that is open.

GM Niles |

Reknar leads the party into the next room, and as he steps through the door he notices something amiss right away. He manages to shout a warning alerting everyone to the danger. Kobolds!
Amunet: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Reknar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Staryth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Amunet just heard Reknar shout a warning. The squares marked DT are caltrops. The kobolds had plenty of time to prepare for you. Roll a perception check the first time you enter the room. It's important.

Kromnir Deepcairn |

Critical failure?! Daaaang the DC for that door is no joke! We are messing with a door that REALLY don't want to messed with, folks. :P This door is pretty much impossible to get open.
As the crowbar snaps in half, the dwarf looks at the half that remains in his hand before simply tossing it away. "Blast. Easy come easy go I guess. Remind me ta get a new one when we get out of here. Possibly two just in case."
Gonna wait for my turn to act. I'm REALLY curious as to how things are going to play out. :)

Amunet-Ra |

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Amunet-Ra advances into the room, takes cover behind the pillar and raises her shield.

Daxur |

For a moment or two , Daxur contemplates the stone door, wishing he could roll time forward until the time he was the most powerful wizard in Golarion...when this door would pose no impediment to him.
With a sigh, he turns and follows the others to the other door.
He hears the warning from Recknar and hurries forward.
I'll wait until his turn to roll the perception...

GM Niles |

Round 1
Amunet moves into the room and raises her shield, getting into a defensive position. (Stride, Stride, Raise Shield)
Kobolds load slings and fire. Amunet is behind cover for most of the Kobolds but one gets a shot at her 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 1d4 ⇒ 1 but her raised shield protects her. One kobold shoots at Reknar 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 but misses.

Kromnir Deepcairn |

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Moving through the others, "Comin' through!" he yells as he finds his way across the room and behind one of the stone columns.
Move, move, move. That'll do it for me. It's 45' of movement.
AC: 18; Hp's 18/24

Reknar |

"Ok let us do this then" - Reknar roars - "We got you covered, so Daxur and Charyx, pepper that caster from afar" - he adds, moving forward with raised shield.
Inspire Courage
Raise Shield
Move.

Amunet-Ra |

Waiting for round 2 to keep confusion low and see what happens.

GM Niles |

The kobolds don't go before you do....so I won't be updating until I get player actions. I'm not sure what you're waiting on? Everyone else to post their actions?

Amunet-Ra |

Lol, waiting on my own confusion to lift^^
Amunet-Ra casts divine lance at the kobold standing in the open (4).
◆◆ Divine Lance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 111d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
◆ Raise Shield

GM Niles |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Ok, just Staryth and Daxur now. If you guys are wondering, in the instance of someone casting a buff spell I typically resolve that first to give everyone the buff before their actions. If you didn't include the bonus I'll do it for you.

Staryth |

With sword in hand (thanks to it being handed over), Starty tries to steatlh into the room.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Perception as he enters 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Doesn't include trapfinder bonus if that applies, or Whisper Elf or lowlight if those apply
Trying to avoid any traps he sneaks near the next column to use as cover, and then from there, tries to snatch or clear the caltrops in that square north and east of him
So..Round one try to steath/sneak in
Round 2 move again
Round 3 try to clear those caltrops? Not sure how that last works but if thevery helps
Thievery 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

GM Niles |

It take's two actions worth of movement to sneak into the room, I'll allow one action to interact with a square and clear caltrops. You posted "Rounds" which was very confusing, when you meant "Actions"
Round 1
Amunet moves into the room and raises her shield, getting into a defensive position. (Stride, Stride, Raise Shield)
Kobolds load slings and fire. Amunet is behind cover for most of the Kobolds but one gets a shot at her but her raised shield protects her. One kobold shoots at Reknar but misses.
Trapmaster Grunix squeals in Draconic at her followers
Charyx hustles forward (stride, stride , stride)
Reknar inspires courage, raises his shield and moves forward to engage the closest kobold 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 he manages to avoid the caltrops.
Kromnir hustles forward and sets off the carefully set spear trap! 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Staryth moves forward and clears caltrops from one area. He notices the trapped area now that Kromnir set it off, it's more obvious, it's outlined on the map.
Daxur moves up and electric arcs the nearest kobold 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 the kobold is spared the worst of the shock, but is singed.
Round 2
Amunet sends a bolt of divine energy streaking at the kobold. It misses.
Kobolds
1) stabs at Reknar twice 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1then it hustles away from him.
2) fire/reload/fire at Charyx 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8 poor Charyx is knocked down by the slingshot
3) fire/reload/fire at Reknar 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 but Reknar is a defensive master.
4) fire/reload/fire at Amunet 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Amunet's shield again does it's job!
Trapmaster Grunix strides and places something on the ground. Then she strides backwards.
