Seeing that her more martial comrades have the fight well in hands, after the death of the devil, Jair moves next to Lass as she draws her wand of cure light wounds and waits for the end of the fight to heal the minor wounds that her comrades suffer.

Turning to Lass she says Lass, please, keep the one I control alive. It could tell us what happened here. Once we have the answers we need, you can destroy it.

Lasaraleen nods to her friend. Jair, I will agree, but only if you can agree we destroy it once we have any information it holds and has outlasted any usefulness. Letting such a creature exist after would go against my Lady's tenets.

She assesses the combat...

Brother Ignatius, we can heal you after the battle unless your need grows dire. Let me know.

She steps forward and tries to hack into the closest zombie.

"I hate you, Mistress!" calls out the zombie.

Lasaraleen does in fact miss with every swing.

Ignatius finishes off two zombies with expert swings of his scimitar, neatly decapitating them.

Renard's first slash, although not particularly pretty, is on-target enough that he drops his foe.

Still have a move action if you like, or could 5' step and redirect the attacks at Orange... but that is the one Commanded by your colleague Jair.

The one remaining hostile zombie attacks Ignatius.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

And then is promptly destroyed.

The one under the control of Jair turns to her and begins speaking in his hoarse voice.
"You wish to know what happened, Mistress?
Very well.
Once, long ago, I was a pathetic thing of meat like you, Mistress.
One-third of every day I was helpless. Unconscious. My feeble mortal brain needed respite from the unending agony and torment that is Life, but even Sleep would not do. Because you still dream. And in my waking hours there was hunger, thirst, illness, fatigue, and a gnawing sense that I had no greater purpose. Life is the plague of Golarion! It is an abomination!"

He will continue in this vein until you get him back on topic...
"Until the great lord Geb called me. I would serve him as an immortal warrior! No more would I be plagued by the miseries of the living!
Mistress, you cannot grasp how wondrous this state of being is! Though Oblivion sounds even more preferable, and I have no fear of you sending me there.
And then... much time passed. Geb placed us where we might be kept in reserve should hated Nex invade.
And then... the bone devil awoke us. Not the one here. Another one. The devils were among Geb's commanders.
The Rijana, a pathetic sack of meat like you, Mistress, had awoken the devils. They awoke us.
We were to force the Rijana to complete a ritual of some kind. She did something wrong. We appeared in this empty town. Her feeble mortal frame could not bear the strain. Her husk lies in the fountain.
Mistress, I do not believe the Rijana worthy of the honor of undeath, but if you deem her worthy, that is where you may find her remains to make a slave of her.
We wandered the town. The devil said it seemed the people disappeared very suddenly - as soon as we arrived. Food was still warm on the tables. Food! I recall that I needed to spend half my waking hours either eating food or expelling it from my hideous mortal shell. Bah! A miserable existence."

A quick search of the town does give indication of a sudden mass disappearance. Abandoned homes, with no sign of combat nor of evacuation. Though it has been several days, and the food on the table has dried out.

In the central fountain lie the remains of the Pathfinder, Rijana. A dessicated hand clasps the holy symbol of Nethys around the figure's neck.

Lasaraleen and Ignatius can easily tell (taking 10 on Heal) that Rijana was killed by unnatural means.

Chandu (by taking 10 on Arcana) can tell that she was likely slain as the backlash from a magical ritual gone wrong.

You find on her remains one of her four journals. Labeled Magical Mysteries of the Mana Wastes Steles, it’s a 200-page book half-filled with Rijana’s tiny scribbles, including a day-today account of her activities in the Wastes over the last six months. Oddly, her last entry indicates that she was two days north of Geb’s Rest, in the Mana Wastes, camped around a stele that she believed could cure the Mana Wastes of its magical afflictions (or lack thereof) if only she could just translate and properly perform the ritual laid out on the stele in ancient Kelesh. This journal also makes mention of three other journals:

  • Translations of the Mana Wastes Stele;
  • Demi-Planes, Pocket Dimensions, and the Mysteries of Geb; and,
  • Flora, Fauna, and Hazards of the Mana Wastes.

With the last Zombie despatched after giving out valuable intelligence, Renard luxuriates in the refreshing energy as his wounds heal.

Letting the others more erudite read through the journal and determining their next destination, Renard instead prepares a place for them to establish a temporary camp.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Zombie #6 is to be summarily dispatched off-screen?
His official name (as well as that of all his fellows) was "Geb's Defender," so I thought of calling him Jeb.
Jeb had a backstory, motivation, quirks... I had such high hopes for his plotline!
No, I really didn't. Carry on.

Ignatius suspects that bringing Rijana's body back to the Grand Lodge would be the course of action preferred by the Society; in case she has enough Prestige for someone to Raise her, or if she merely can be buried in her family's plot.

"Body recovery" is sometimes part of the job as a Pathfinder. A temporary cairn for her here for the time being might be appropriate, although you probably could put her remains in a Bag of Holding (and in fact a dessicated body weighs less than the 80-lb limit of the central pocket of a Handy Haversack, if you don't have too much else in there).

If there are no objections, I will assume you follow Ignatius's lead, stay overnight in Geb's Rest, and move on the next day.

And if you would cast any other long-duration buffs before starting out in the morning (like Chandu's extended Heroism at 220 minutes), note those as well.

Night passes in Geb's Rest, with no additional dangers.

In the morning, you set out. A road winds north through the Mana Wastes, a roiling torrent of sandstorms, monsters, and dead-magic zones.

I am assuming Chandu again takes the lead with her longspear since that was your prior formation.

Yes, those attack and damage numbers look right for an AMF

Chandu withers under the hellcats assault. She waits, hoping to see if her allies can bring it down.

I will post my action when I know the outcome of everyone elses. There is a big difference depending if I am grappled or not.

This round is like a full AMF. No (Su) abilities, and your magic weapons are mundane (though masterwork).

However, I believe that DR/Good would count as (Su), so that defense is inactive this round.

Next round I will roll again.

Ignatius and Renard deal solid blows to the Hellcat grappling Chandu, and Lasaraleen adds a strike from her scimitar.

The beast is not intimidated by Jair.

Another 37 damage to Red, putting it at 51 damage taken.

The Hellcat does not release its grip on Chandu.

Action to Chandu! You could try to break its grip (CMB check), draw and attack with a one-handed weapon, use Total Defense (which would add to your CMD when it tries to maintain the grapple), or do something else.
