Andor looks around.

He is a Kitsune, an anthropomorphic humanoid fox. He is covered with a downy coat of auburn fur.

Andor is very thin and looks quite weak but agile.

He wears a unique kind of dragonhide armor that seems to shine. Beneath the armor he is wearing a noble's outfit and the necessary jewelry.

He has an adamantine rapier at his hip that is attached to his wrist with a very fine chain. Under his clothing sometimes the holy symbol of Chaldira Zuzaristan is visible.

"Hello everybody, I am Andor." he says with a stern look on his face.

The Dragon's Demand

The party has been assembled in one of the meeting rooms in the Grand Lodge in Absalom. A large round table made of polished darkwood dominates the room. Two men are leaning over the table when the Pathfinders enter the room. One has the broad back and shoulders of a soldier or athlete while the other is thin and stooped. The two men continue whispering to each other, but the larger one waves the group over without turning around. As the party approaches they see that the two men are the Pathfinder Society’s Master of Swords, Marcos Farabellus, and Aram Zey, the Master of Spells.

A large map of northern Avistan lies spread across the table. A notched and battered longsword weighs the map down on one side, preventing it from furling closed, while its sheathe does the same on the other side. Farabellus has placed all manner of objects upon the map, each indicating a different landmark or Pathfinder Society resource. Aram Zey frowns as Farabellus places another piece down upon the map.

“This is the lost Sky Citadel Jormurdun, in the very northwestern extreme of what is now the Worldwound,” Farabellus explains, pointing towards a dwarven-minted gold coin, “And this red stone is Nerosyan, Mendev’s capitol city. As you can see, any expedition launched from Nerosyan has to cross the entire demon-infested Worldwound to reach the Sky Citadel. With the recent failure of the wardstones and increased demonic attacks along the border, such a journey would be suicide. It makes more strategic sense to enter the Worldwound from the west—from the Tusk Mountains, home of the Mammoth Lords. It’s a shorter distance and there’d be a whole lot fewer demon armies along the way.”

“Though that may be true, we have no allies or holdings in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords,” Aram Zey interrupts, pushing over a miniature marble elephant, much to Farabellus’ clear annoyance. “However, though we do not intend to forsake our allies in Mendev, the Master of Swords makes a valid point. The Decemvirate has therefore authorized a small reconnaissance mission to the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. We are sending you to scout along the eastern border of the Worldwound, find and secure a suitable location that we could use as a staging ground for our expedition, and ensure the cooperation of the local barbarian tribes.”

Farabellus answers the questions about the dangers present in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords.

“It may be warm around Tolguth, but beyond that lies cold and unforgiving tundra. We call it the Realm of the Mammoth Lords for a reason—think giant animals with lots of insulation. That close to the Worldwound, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some evidence of demonic influence, as well.”

Aram Zey snaps at Andor, "We don't know anything specific about the tribes in the region. That's why we're sending Pathfinders to find out about them." Farabellus nudges Zey, who glares at him for several tense seconds before saying "Who here speaks Hallit? I'm sure one of you must speak it, right?"

Knowledge (Geography or Local) DC 15:
The Realm of the Mammoth Lords is a savage and untamed wilderness, inhabited by great beasts such as mammoths, herds of bison and aurochs, and the tribes of nomadic Kellid barbarians that hunt them.

Knowledge (Geography or Local) DC 20:
Despite its remoteness, the Realm of the Mammoth Lords sees many visitors. Raiding orcs from Belkzen to the south, servants of Irrisen’s Witch Queen seeking to expand their borders from the west, traders from Tian Xia brave enough to cross the Crown of the World from the north, and—most dangerous of all—invading demonic forces from the Worldwound to the east. As most of the land’s visitors are hostile, the indigenous Kellids are justifiably cautious around strangers and show a particular dislike for anything demonic or any displays of foreign magic—especially magic that harnesses cold.

Knowledge (Geography or Local) DC 25:
Tolguth is a surprisingly warm location, warmed by chains of hot springs and volcanic vents that run along deep glacier-carved valleys. Predatory creatures, including dinosaurs said to have crawled up from poorly understood underground caverns, overrun the jungles surrounding Tolguth. Few Kellids travel much farther to the east due to their mammoths’ aversion to the Worldwound. The resulting no-man’s land is called hrungara—the point beyond which the mammoths do not willingly go.

Knowledge (Geography or Local) DC 30+:
Deep beneath Tolguth and the Tusk Mountains lies a primordial world forgotten by time. Known as Deep Tolguth, the vast caverns feature their own subterranean sun and are home to massive dinosaurs and other strange and mighty beasts.

Meeting all the way to the Grand Lodge this time hey? I got 'The Voracious' moored for the night, so that's awright I guess...

Approaching the Grand Lodge, he hands over the reins of his riding gecko to a hard looking man with a crossbow on his back, wearing leathers and carrying a cutlass. The man nods and ties it a suitable distance from his own horse, making sure to dump several kilos of desiccated giant chunks of some kind of meat from a large sack, then mixing it into the nearest trough with a large amount of greens and vegetable scraps.

"Thanks for takin' care of Mozza, Coxswain Yossk. Keep a good eye on it, at least until it falls asleep with a belly full of that stuff. I'm still amazed how many voyages the beast has seen since I bought it down south, but in a town like this, it's probably safer in the sewers than beached on a street like this. Keep that crossbow out and loaded until I can find a stable that'll take it."

Entering the Grand Lodge, the good captain shifts his eyepatch from left to right, blinking a few times and taking his gauntlet off to rub the sleep gunk out of his fresh eye. Seeing the Pathfinder warriors already assembled, he nods as he approaches, leaning his shield and lance on the wall next to him. Taking his helm off, he finally relaxes for the first time in what seems a long while, now appearing slightly less grumpy. "Well met everyone. Raynor's the name. Pirate hunter. Used to be one as a boy, until someone knocked some sense into me!

"In the trade city of Sedeq, actually. I'm not an animal expert, but I think you may be correct that the creatures hail from Mwangi in their natural state, however. The handlers in Sedeq had these fine steeds already trained for combat. A worthy investment, if I may say so. Very well trained, and loyal mounts too! I have another sea-going mount that follows my ships at sea, which I have trained myself. This fine riding gecko is for my land expeditions. Its speed and maneuverability is a boon for slow-moving armored knights such as myself."

"Wiser words were never spoken, Master of Scrolls! would you be able to recommend a few choice potions or scrolls which may help bridge the communications gap?"

This request is in-character, based on Raynor's lack of arcana/spellcraft knowledge; I assume comprehend language will do, but feel free to also recommend other alternatives if more appropriate: alas, scrolls are out of the question for paladins as this is either a cleric or wizard spell, and the spell has a target of 'you' so impossible to get it as a potion...

Zey answers Carina's question. “I’ll teleport us to a spot just outside of the barbarian settlement of Tolguth. Not too close though—these are people easily startled by magic. Once you find a suitable location, simply snap this ceramic disc,” he instructs, placing a palm-sized, intricately carved disk on the table.

“It will form a temporary beacon that I can use to create a waypoint for the Hao Jin Tapestry. With the waypoint, we can easily move agents and supplies to the new base camp, but it takes time to set up; don’t think of this as an emergency evacuation device.”

Zey looks the group over, counting everyone several times. "I'm going to have to bring you in two groups. I'll need at least an hour to prepare the spells I need for that. Finish up your preparations and take with anything that you think you'll need. You won't have access to our shops or libraries while you are there."

Before we leave, Meylara will tap everyone who wants it with a charge from her Endure Elements wand (8 I think, 6 PC and 2 pets - gecko and velociraptor?)

I'm ready to go whenever. I've already done my shopping, picking up a nice upgrade to my headband a few days ago and these two scrolls just now. She stows the Endure Elements wand and pulls another out. Carina, can you also tap me with this Mage Armor wand?

Normal spells are cast as well, Greater Magic Fang on her and on Petal, Heroism on her.

The Dragon's Demand

Before leaving Farabellus tells the party, “The Realm of the Mammoth
Lords is a dangerous place, especially that close to the Worldwound. Therefore, look for a staging ground that is secure and defensible. Ease of access and availability of local resources is a secondary concern, since we can move a limited number of supplies through the Hao Jin Tapestry.”

With animal companions included it takes Aram Zey two castings of teleport to bring the party to the location that he has picked out. The Pathfinders emerge in a clearing that features a large round boulder resting in a natural hot spring, which makes a perfect landmark for the wizard's teleport spells. The air is warm and humid and thick vegetation surrounds the clearing. Aram Zey points out a path through the trees and informs the party that they are about three miles south of Tolguth. He gives the party directions to navigate through the jungle and to the barbarian settlement.

Despite the incessant heat, humidity, and buzzing of insects, navigating the jungles surrounding Tolguth is relatively easy thanks to the trampled foliage, fallen trees, and footprint scarred game trails that cut through the dense plant growth. A gray, cloudless sky peers through the lush canopy as a stark reminder of the northern latitude.

Suddenly out of the trees several giant, vulture like creatures fly towards the party. They are humanoid in shape but they have a frightful and unnatural appearance that marks them as creatures not of this world. Shortly after they appear a massive bipedal dinosaur with a mouthful of dagger sized teeth comes running after them. They begin fighting in a natural clearing.

DC 10 Perception:
The dinosaur has several spears lodged in its hide. There are colorful ribbons of cloth wrapped around the hafts of the spear. You can also make a Knowledge Local check

DC 20 Perception:
In the trees west of the fighting creatures there are several warriors watching the battle and more importantly watching to see how the Pathfinders react.

****Before.... As this is somewhat important to Carina****

Carina will nod at Meylara's request, take the wand and use it on her just before leaving. However, she waves off the Endure Elements wand. "Previous excursions have effectively given me a more permanent version of that effect. I don't need it." For reference, I have boons that give me permenant Endure Elements for both hot(from #7-24) and cold(from #2-19) conditions.

"However, as we have an hour as the Master of Spells re-prepares, I would like to perform a reading," she says seriously, as she raises the Harrow deck in her hands up to the others. "I've found that the cards have been a great guide to missions before, and I doubt that they will lead us astray now as well." She sits at the closest table in the room, and begins to perform a Harrowing. Over the next period of time, she slowly reads the cards, with a frown on her face, especially once she flips the center card in the spread, depicting a pair of identical men, in mirrored positions from each other. As she flips the last card, she sighs, and admits, "This is the most cryptic the Harrow has been to me in quite some time. With the Twin in the center of the reading, It's flat out flaunting that fact. I'm going to be ruminating on this for awhile."

[ooc] For reference, the Blessing of the Harrow is a 10 minute process that grants everyone in a party an insight bonus for a day. However, for the sake of the GM having to deal with this, I instead make the reading last the scenario, so I only have to do a reading once in a session.

Blessing of the Harrow:

Harrow Card1: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (2) + (4) = 6The Locksmith(Dex, LN)
Harrow Card2: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (1) + (8) = 9The Beating(Str,NE)

Harrow Card5: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (6) + (5) = 11The Twin(Chr,TN)
Harrow Card6: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (1) + (1) = 2The Paladin(Str,LG)
Harrow Card7: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (2) + (5) = 7The Peacock(Dex,TN)
Harrow Card8: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (3) + (5) = 8The Teamster(Con,TN)
Harrow Card9: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (4) + (8) = 12The Idiot(Int,NE)

In the grand scheme of things, This reading gives the entire party a +1 insight bonus to AC for the entirety of the scenario.

Sorry, Wild Empathy is like Diplomacy and can't usually be used in combat.

And then Andor charges forward and stabs the beast right in the ankle, grievously wounding the mighty lizard.

The Dragon's Demand

There really isn't much to say about the Tyrannosaurus. They have powerful bite, swallow whole, a decent move speed and a lot of HP. They are also incredibly perceptive and have scent and low-light vision, like most animals do.

I don't let people pick what they want to know from knowledge checks; but luckily defenses for you defenses are what I would tell you first about these kind of creatures.

Carina recognizes the demons as Vrocks, powerful warriors of the Abyss that represent the rage, hatred, and violence of that wretched plane. Like most demons they are immune to electricity and poison and resistant to every other element and the damage of most weapons. The only weapons that truly work well against them are weapons that are infused with cosmic goodness.

Vrocks are known for being more dangerous in groups because they have an ability to summon lightning storms that is commonly called "the dance of ruin." They don't often use this ability though because the dance takes time to take effect. They also have a screech that can stun their enemies and their disease filled feathers emit toxic pores that make them dangerous to those who try to fight them in hand to hand combat.

Carina stays back and casts a defensive spell on herself, while relaying the most relevant pieces of her encyclopedic knowledge to her allies.

The Dragon's Demand

Oops, I was going to give you the SR also, Carina. Gurkagh did penetrate the SR though. Only thing is that I think with spells like this (haste is the one I see the most), targets have to both be within the maximum range of the spell effect and within distance of each other. A quick peak in the rule book seems to confirm this but if you have proof that it works different I will take the red off the board also, as it did fail its save. Still, banishing one of the vrocks is still a pretty good result.
