Mykel Therinor |
was intending to get close last round...worried about an AoO...full attacking now
Mykel lays into the beast with a flash of steel. He then readies to fend off any strike the dinosaur makes

GM Badblood |
Okay, so I am assuming that Mykel moved into melee range on the first round, before the T-Rex had its turn.
The party works together and brings the mighty dinosaur down, destroying its ankles with repeated stabs and slices until it collapses forward.

With one problem remaining, and a party with some significant means to deal said problem, Carina reaches into her belt pouch and withdraws a trio of Harrow cards. With an impassive look on her face as she looks them over, she passes them into the folds of her scarf before forming a quintet of stars of light. She gestures toward the vrock, and the stars all shoot at the demon.
Standard Action -Harrow Casting Magic Missile
Harrow Draw1: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (1) + (9) = 10[ooc]The Cyclone(STR,CE)

Harrow Draw3: 1d6 + 1d9 ⇒ (5) + (2) = 7The Midwife(WIS,NG)
Only the first card does anything for me for now. Strength cards increase damage by 1 for each die rolled.
SR Check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
I doubt that'll bypass SR, but if it does...
Missile damage(CL9), 1 STR card: 5d4 + 10 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 3, 4) + 10 = 26
GM Badblood |
Despite being powered by her mastery of Harrowing magic, the missiles pop and fizzle harmlessly as they near the last remaining vrock.
You were right about those magic missiles not penetrating the vrock's spell resistance.

I am leaving the T-rex on the map because I believe the corpses of creatures this large actually leave difficult terrain behind when they die.
Gurkagh |
Saddened to see such a majestic animal brutally attacked when he was just about to befriend it, Gurkagh calls on the spirits to keep it alive.
Moving closer and casting stabilize--not sure if it's alive or dead, but Gurkagh would try.
GM Badblood |
Sadly, the majestic beast's wounds are beyond Gurkagh's abilities and the creature dies before he can save its life.
Despite seeing the party dispense with its ally and the great dinosaur, all without sustaining a scratch, the fearlessly flies towards Mykel, descending just enough to swipe at the swashbuckler with its long razor sharp claws. Mykel rolls out the way and feels the demon's claws brush his cloak, but fail to catch anything more substantial. A foul smelling dust flies from the feathers of this creature's massive wings as it flies above him and the creature's terrifying cackle rattles his bones.

"Gurkagh say hey trees, help Gurgkagh!" Forest spirits stream out of the woods and flow towards the demon!
Using my hex of lignification. The demon gets a DC 17 Fort save or it is staggered for 2 rounds (but gains hardness 5).
Meylara Raven |
Meylara charges forward, pouncing on the Vrock. Woodland stride lets me ignore difficult terrain from non-magical foliage, Dragon stance from allies, though I don't think any are in my charge lane.
Attack includes Greater Magic Fang and Heroism
Bite: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 1 + 2 = 17 for 2d8 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (7, 4) + 10 + 1 = 22

Confirm on second Talon: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 1 + 2 = 23 for 1d8 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12
She growls an order to Petal to stay back.
GM Badblood |
The stagger condition just limits the target to one standard or move action per round and prevents them from making full-attacks. It has no other negative effect.
Gurkagh, I can see that you made the tactical error of moving into a paladin/cavalier's charge lane. Considering that Raynor still needs to get his turn from round 2 and is *probably* wanting to charge, can you find a different position for yourself?
Fort Save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
The vrock is incredibly hardy and easily resists Gurkagh's hex. Meylara pounces forward and manages to land blows with one of her claws and both talons. One of the talons strikes at the creatures eye and causes it a bit of pain. Meylara's claws have trouble penetrating the thick gray feathers of the creature, which feel like they are as hard as solid oak.

[b]Would I be able to get on top of the fallen dinosaur to be able to reach the vrock? I can use acrobatics to jump up...might be a bit weird rule wise...[/ooc]
GM Badblood |
Sure! The Acrobatics DC would be 20 if Mykel runs 10 ft before jumping, or 40 if it's a standing jump. And it would take a move action...it's not something you can do as a five foot step. Also, you are in it's reach currently, so it would provoke.
Mykel Therinor |
ok...going now...
Mykel steps back a few paces and tries to jump up on top of the fallen beast to get at the vrock. He lashes out with his blade and prepares to fend off any attack the devil makes.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19i needed a 3 for the love of RNG!!

GM Badblood |
My consideration was more that if Raynor chose to charge, Gurkagh wouldn't be able to legally stand in the space he was in. But it sounds like Raynor would rather move around to surround the Vrock instead.
Raynor rides forward and stabs at the demon, which dodges out of the way.
As Mykel steps back, the vrock takes a swipe at the running swashbuckler. Once again the claws miss the swashbuckler, but just barely.
Without anyway to affect the flying demon, Andor watches helplessly from the ground.
You didn't add the insight bonus to AC from Carina's harrowing, which would case the attack to miss.

GM Badblood |
As Carina moves forward and gets out a spell scroll, the flying demon continues to direct its attacks at the other dinosaur, Meylara. It remains hovering in air, chortling joyfully as its swipes and snaps recklessly at the druid's face. The creature manages to get some strikes in, but the thick hide of her chosen form does a good job of preventing the fiend from landing a mortal blow.

Raynor rides around to stab the creature in the back. The spearhead strikes the monster in the wing. Mykel jump up to the top of the dinosaur and ducks under its claw as he stabs up at the fiend. The vrock predicts his thrust though and slaps the blade of the rapier to the side.

Meylara Raven |
@Carina, I'd save the scroll if I were you. I suspect we might need it more later.
Andor Katsu |
Yes, safe the scroll. Just watch the might of your colleagues unfold. :-D
GM Badblood |
If Meylara can maintain the grapple, she can chose to move the vrock around to any adjacent space, including moving it down to the ground. Or just drop the grapple and full attack if she wants to be selfish. Either way, things aren't looking good for the demon right now. It just a matter of whether it can get a few licks in before dying.
Meylara Raven |
She'll be attempting to maintain and pin her next action. At the least, she should be putting the Vrock on the ground.

Easy there, tiger. Meylara has to survive the Vrock's turn and maintain the grapple before she can even think about pinning the demon. If she does bring the vrock to the ground and its still alive, Andor's actions can stand.
Carina casts haste on the rest of the party, giving them the gift of speed. Andor waits in anticipation of the vrock being pulled to the ground.

Meylara holds the thing in her mouth, slamming it to the ground in a pin.
Around the demon-flesh she growls a command to Petal.
Petal Raven |
Petal circles around to take advantage of the pinned creature's lowered defenses, reaching out to slash it with a talon.
Talon + flank: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 2 = 34 for 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
GM Badblood |
Mykel misses with both his strikes, as does Gurgakh attacking from the ground. Raynor holds his ground and jabs at the flying demon repeatedly, getting two jabs in.
Couple of things here. Meylara, I am assuming that the damage comes from raking? I believe that you still need to make attack rolls against a creature that is pinned, although its defenses are significantly reduced. And yeah, Raynor, effects normally end at the beginning or end of a turn; they never end in the middle of a turn, so I would say that the bonus form Saddle Surge can't be stretched into two turns by changing the order that you move or attack in. Neither of these effect the outcome because even with its DR, there is probably enough damage to kill the demon.
The Pathfinders bring down the demon and quickly finish it off. As the last foe is slain, the Kellid warriors emerge from the trees. The hunters are all tall, lean and muscular. They are dressed in piece meal armor consisting of thick animal hides and pieces of salvaged metal armor and their exposed skin is covered in a crisscross of old scars. They are all wielding stone tipped spears that are decorated with colorful ribbons. Although none of them are wearing anything that would signify them as their leader, one woman steps forward to address the group.
"I, Denur! Who you?" she demands.
Andor Katsu |
Andor sees that the demons are killed and immediately sheathes his weapon.
He bows to the Kellid in Tien fashion.
"A pleasure to meet you madame. We are Pathfinders and here to discuss with you and your community how we can support each other to battle the demons of the Worldwound."
He looks at the dinosaur.
"I hope that we did not kill this dinosaur and took something valuable away from you but we had to defend ourselves. We would very much appreciate it if you could bring us to your village to speak to someone who can make decisions." and he bows again.

Meylara Raven |
Couple of things here. Meylara, I am assuming that the damage comes from raking? I believe that you still need to make attack rolls against a creature that is pinned, although its defenses are significantly reduced.
I thought the weapon used to maintain the grapple and pin also did it's damage when that happened - in this case my mouth. If that's not right, which is entirely possible, I rarely use the grapple rules, then I'm happy to just pin.
I neglected to mention, but her wand of cure light is normally stashed on Petal so it's available while she is wild shaped. I'd prefer not to un-wild shape if possible, but understand if that is not the case.
After tapping herself a few times with her wand of cure light, Meylara turns to the woman. Ring of Eloquence means her normal sounding voice floats from the massive mouth of the Allosaurus.
@GM couple of other questions: Can I take average on the wand out of combat (5 for 1 or 11 for 2 charges)? Also, how long do the spores last? It is unfortunate that this creature was already crazed by the attacks of these demons and we were unable to save it. I assume this happens frequently this near to the worldwound?
Mykel Therinor |
I'm Mykel. Were you hunting that beast? I saw you in the trees, watching us...the Taldan says, flicking the gore from his blade and checking it for any dull spots before sheathing it.
sense motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
GM Badblood |
Carina knows the spores last for about a minute, but can be destroyed with holy water or a bless spell.
Andor and Mykel get the hunch that Denur only understands about half of what they say. They seem to admire the swashbucklers and the pirate hunters but are uneasy around those who used magic during the combat.
Denur responds, "Demons are evil. It is good to destroy. We are much pleased."
Regarding his comments about the dinosaur she says cocks her head to the side in confusion then says "The thunder beast is yours. The bird demon is yours. Trophies go to the hunter! Mighty hunters! Trophies will please the elders. You can give them and there will be much proud!"
Andor Katsu |
Andor nods and collects the trophies, making sure he’s taking the right parts of the opponents that the team was able to defeat.
“Thank you very much! We would be pleased to meet your elders and to present these trophies! Please guide us to them!“ he says and bows again.
diplomacy, in case more convincing needed : 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (16) + 19 = 35
Raynor Cordite |
Raynor gathers whoever has been affected by these spores and sprinkle holy water on them. He also taps everyone who needs to be tapped with their own wands. You all note that he's really good at wand tapping. You could almost swear that he's done that before. He begins to strap the beasts with rope harnesses that his giant riding gecko will drag to town. He immediately begins to worry about the dinosaur's prodigious weight as the ropes and knots he's tied securely begin to groan in protest as the giant lizard begins to pull...
The thing is fitted with muleback cords and can drag 12,000 lbs. along the ground; Google says "T. rex would have weighed between 5,000 and 7,000 kilograms (11,000 to 15,500 pounds) with skin and flesh on its huge bones. That's about as much as the largest African elephant." I'll let the GM determine final weight... we.. may have to leave a piece behind or offer the tribesmen to carry back some parts of it on their shoulders, depending on the T-rex's final weight.
Mykel Therinor |
Trophies are a good way to remember victories... Mykel says as he gets ut his prybar and wrenches a tooth from the dinosaur.
This will make a fine necklace...I'm not touching that thing... he says nodding to the demon.
Gurkagh |
Gurkagh smiles broadly but with his teeth clenched tight and his eyes wide. He looks a bit crazy, but that's his normal way of greeting people.
