Shield is a Personal spell (target: you), so it can't be cast on anyone else. Share Spells lets you cast it on your phantom.
At first I thought "this doesn't make sense." It's in a wand. If someone on an adventure finds a wand filled with shield, they can't use it? Then I realized it's the user of the wand that can only activate it on themselves. Al least I have shield in my repertoire.
I couldn't find the post you linked about phantoms being able to wear or not wear armor, but, yeah, I started playing Inga during the playtest and always assumed it couldn't wear armor. I was confused about whether they could wield weapons or not.
I think I actually bought the scythe for Inga and just said it used to be Klaus' but she uses it now.
Luckily, the few times I did play Inga (she is mostly GM credit) a lot of this stuff never came up.
Oh man, I'm learning a lot too!

Welp. I totally messed up the map again moving Inga, Klaus, and circle of light. The undo button wasn't there. I tried sliding things back into place but it just kept getting worse! I don't know what happened to Grunjar's token. Sorry!!!

GM supervillan |

Map is fixed. Tokens were just hidden behind layers, with the main map above them.
I've removed the light circle - Grunjar has Daylight up now, that's more than sufficient for everyone. I've also revealed the rest of the map.
I don't know how you manage on a phone - even with the Slides app I can't move things around without making a mess! I only manipulate maps when I'm on a computer.

yeah man...your call....it'll still be there if you fail the save...i was just pre-empting my bad roll..mostly because 2 neg levels is bad....like...very much bad like...

Lets save the scroll. If I remember correctly it is not a permanent negative level as I have not needed to make the save yet.
Correct, you have to make separate saves for every temporary negative level - 24 hours after you got them.
Maybe you should put on the Talisman of Good Fortune (lesser) for that, too. This neck slot item triggers the first time you roll a natural 1, allowing you to reroll.
So, until now we have the following SAVING THROW BUFFS (and penalties) for Ryu:
- negative level: -1 penalty
- Guidance(Grunjar): +1 competence bonus
- Bear's Endurance(Grunjar): +4 enhancement bonus to CON => +2 to Fortitude saves
- Lucky Horseshoe(Inga): +4 luck bonus to a single save (if Inga is willing to lend it to you)
- Saving Finale(???): reroll a failed save
- Rage(???): +2 morale bonus to CON => +1 to Fortitude saves
- Bestow Grace(???): +4 (your CHA modifyer) sacred bonus to all saves (if we can find a paladin level 8)
- Beacon of Luck(Grunjar): immediate action, roll twice for a save and take the better roll
- Bit of Luck: roll two times, take the better roll (if allowed by GM, he would also roll two dice for his reroll, wouldn't he?)
- Talisman of Good Fortune, lesser (Item): triggers the first time you roll a natural 1, allowing you to reroll
- Ryu's reroll
Would it be possible to pay a few (level 1 or higher) bards/skalds who know Saving Finale to perform tomorrow and cast it if needed? They are speaking skald in Frostbreach, maybe we can find at least one.
Same goes for any NPC who knows the spell Rage.
What kind of skill check would it be to time the 24 hours? Or is it merely an INT check?
Total modifier calculation - only including what the party itself can provide:
10 - 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = +16 (with two or three rerolls)
That should work! :-)

I've definitely thought about lending the Lucky Horseshoe to another, even after resting overnight. However, it says "As long as the owner carries it on their person..."
I would rule that, since Inga purchased it and became the owner, it wouldn't work on anyone else. It's a pretty powerful item.
I'm considering getting four-leaf clovers for some of my other PCs. These state "in the possession of..."

Hm...what happens if Ryu "steals" it, but gives it back later? It does not say rightful owner...
As English is not my first language:
Can you tell me the definition of the word owner?
Because in my country (Austria), there are a few different legal kinds of "ownership" using the following terms:
Eigentümer (E): A person who owns an object with all legal rights going with that.
Besitzer(B): A person who rightfully has an object in his posession (maybe E lends or rents it to them).
Inhaber(I): A person who currently has an object in his posession, but has no rights to it (maybe they stole it - or just found it)
Example:
Erik owns a car, he has alle the paperwork saying so. One day he lends it to his sister Beth, who needs it for an errand. After the car is parked outside the store, the car thief Iris breaks into the car and steals it.
While Beth is driving to the store, would you consider her the owner?
After Iris stole the car, who would you consider the owner now?
You see, I'm curious... ;-)

GM supervillan |

We are not getting into legal disputes over who the owner of a magic item is ;)
(It is Inga; and for finality's sake, it is not 'legal' to transfer ownership of items in PFS).

GM supervillan |

Just so you're all clear about your choice - going back to Karlsgard and returning with Lucifer will take about a week. When you return you may expect to face the Headless King again - though without his heavy armour and butchering axe he will be much less of a threat.
I'd like to hear from Lucifer to confirm that he's able to pay for a raise and / or restorations, and what option he will take to do so.
Other party members are allowed to contribute gold to help with Lucifer's costs, but cannot be obliged to do so. You cannot contribute Prestige.

I'm not worried about the cost in PP and Gold. I have enough for both.
I'll go this route:
Raise Dead: 2450gp and 8 Prestige
Restoration x2 or x4: 2560gp or 2560gp and 8 Prestige

![]() |

What if we burn the headless king's body before we leave? Giving him a proper burial with prayers for the departed for a safe journey to the afterlife, etc...?

That's fine with me. ;)
Just want to add that this ruling also means that Inga does not have to worry about the horseshoe ever being stolen. No thief can get it to work... ;-)
Maybe this items needs clarification/revision by the game creators?
The errata comes to mind...

@Ryu: I think you should wield the axe against the linnorm. Grunjar will cast bull's strength on you, that will push your STR to 20 for 6 minutes so you do not take the -2 penalty to attack - and we could buy a potion of enlarge person for 50 gold.
Whe wielding the axe you'll have a -4 penalty to attacks for non-proficiency and +2 enhancement bonus for dragon bane.
So in total you will have a slightly lower (-2) attack modifier compared to your nodachi, but doing way more damage than you could get with Power Attack on the nodachi.
I did some math for +1 nodachi vs. +1 dragon bane butchering axe:
without buffs: 1d10+7 vs. 5d6+9 (additional -2 penalty to attack with the axe)
with enlarge person: 2d8+8 vs. 6d6+10 (nodachi +1, axe -1 to attack)
with bulls'strength: 1d10+8 vs. 5d6+9 (nodachi +1, axe -1 to attack)
with both buffs: 2d8+10 vs. 6d6+12 (nodachi +2, axe no penalty to attack)
There's one drawback: You will have a lower chance to crit. But as Grunjar cannot use bit of luck more than once in a round anyway, he might provide Rallas or Myth with it instead... ;-)

![]() |

Holy cow, Grunjar! That is awesome how you did all the math for the attacks. (I'm terrible at math (and im lazy) so I'm not gonna bother checking).
Aren't dwarves proficient with axes? What if you wielded it?
Edit: Ah. Orc butchering axe. I looked it up. An exotic weapon.

Actually, I miscalculated. You get a -1 size penalty to attack and AC from enlarge person which I missed... :-/
Rallas: Yes, he can - he used my evil stick... ;-)

![]() |

We have a few negative level saves to make whilst on the road:
Ryu you have 1 negative level, your Fort save DC is 17.
Lucifer you have 2 negative levels, you need a DC 17 Fort save for each.
Don't forget that each negative level applies a -1 to all your saves, including saves to remove the negative level. Spells and effects that last 1 round can't be used to bolster these saves, since you can't accurately time them , but if you have effects that last at least 30 minutes I'll allow them.
Hm... so if Grunjar memorizes five bear's endurance(6 min duration), would it qualify as 30 minutes?
And would restoration work on Lucifer's corpse?
Regarding the King's axe: it's an exotic weapon, but there's a spell for that.
Thanks for the spell suggestion! I missed that completely... :-o

GM supervillan |

I'll allow the multiple Bear's Endurances, Grunjar.
Restoration can only be cast on a creature, so doesn't work on a corpse. (Some conditions do persist if you have them when you die).

![]() |

Lets see now, going to need Bull Strength to buff up the strength and Bestow Weapon spell to take care of the weapon penalty. Toss in a potion of Enlarge Person for good measure. So we are at +15/+10 to hit (BAB +7, +5 for Str with the extra off set by the Large size, and +3 for the weapon against the dragon. 6d6+12 for damage before adding in Power Attack.
I can do Inspiring commend to give us +1 competence bonus to attack/damage and it gives +5' if you are charging. but takes a move action to get started. A Bless or such will help boost things.
Thank you for pointing out the spell GM Supervillain.

plus lead blades!
so if i'm reading this right...it's a 3d6 base...if we cast Lead blades on it before enlarging it becomes a 4d6 base...which becomes 4d8 after enlarging...i think it's the same whether we enlarge it before or after casting lead blades actually...so Grunjar's math is a good start...but that thing will hit like a freight train if it hits...and if it crits?....wowzers!

Klaus the Phantom |

Aaaand, I totally forgot about Klaus' Aura of Fury ability.
"Aura of Fury (Su): When the spiritualist reaches 7th level, as a swift action, the phantom can emit a 20-foot-radius aura of fury. Creatures within the aura gain a +2 bonus on melee attack rolls but take a –2 penalty to AC. Ending the aura is a free action. The phantom can use this ability in either ectoplasmic or incorporeal form."
He can activate it as a swift, then, before the headless king acts, can turn it off as a free action so nobody has the -2 AC.

GM supervillan |

4d6 -> 6d6 on the size increase chart. (You go up two steps on the chart when you increase size one step, unless you start small).
Thank you for pointing out the spell GM Supervillain.
I think that the axe is there to be used :) Also, expect a good scrap even when you're prepared.

I've realised there is a problem with poor old Lucifer's restorations, in that the restoration spell can only be used to remove 1 permanent negative level per week.
I'm also a little uncertain on how to properly deal with the negative levels that Luci has when he dies - I'm fairly certain that they don't just go away, and corpses do have to make saving throws sometimes (eg vs Speak With Dead).
But failing both saves will put Luci at three negative levels when you get back to the catacomb; or two if we say that it's a whole week later and you use Rallas' scroll at that point.
I'm willing to say that Rallas' scroll can be used during the first 24 hours to remove both temporary levels before they become permanent. That would still leave Luci with one negative level when you get back to the catacombs, unless you purchase a scroll (1700gp instead of 1280gp) and use that when you've returned and that's a whole week after the raise.

![]() |

That sounds more than fair, GM...I’m always in favor of using restoration to wipe out temporary negative levels before they become permanent as opposed to relying on the whims of the die roller on saves...

![]() |

Hey, Grunjar. Maybe put Searing Light in your spell repertoire or get a couple scrolls to deal with headless king.
I stocked up on some scrolls & wands. Will post shopping list with costs after work today.

![]() |

i have some scrolls he can use...
scroll lesser restoration x3
scroll Protection from evil
scroll protection from evil, communal
scroll align weapon
scroll bless weapon
scroll dispel magic
scroll remove paralysis
i have these he can use...

![]() |

If Lucifer needs to purchase a Restoration Scroll, he'll do that.

GM supervillan |

Ok, the best way to do this is for Rallas' restoration scroll to be used in the first 24 hours. It will remove the negative levels that Lucifer was killed with.
Then, when you reach Kalsgard, Lucifer gets raised (paying 2450gp and 8 Prestige). He returns from the dead with 2 permanent negative levels. He pays for a restoration (1280gp OR 4 Prestige). He then needs to purchase a restoration scroll at a cost of 1700gp which can be used 1 week later, when you return to the catacombs. (No cleric will accompany you there, so it's not possible to pay for the casting of the spell and you'll need the scroll instead. Grunjar or Inga can cast from the scroll.)
Will post in Gameplay to reflect this.

Since the headless King is covered in ice, I wonder if fire spells would be more harmful against him. Would anyone consider picking up scrolls or wands of scorching ray or burning hands, or any other fire spells?
Inga's purchases:
Potion/shield of faith (CL 6th)* x3 (900)
Scroll/spiritual weapon x2 (300)
Scroll/haste (375)
Wand/mage armor (CL 3, 10 charges)* (450)
Wand/acid arrow (3 charges)* (270)
*Special chronicle item.
2295 gp total

Hey, Grunjar. Maybe put Searing Light in your spell repertoire or get a couple scrolls to deal with headless king.
Thanks for the sugestion!
Currently, I cannot afford a scroll (went shopping right before the scenario). But I will memorize it.Since the headless King is covered in ice, I wonder if fire spells would be more harmful against him. Would anyone consider picking up scrolls or wands of scorching ray or burning hands, or any other fire spells?
I sincerely doubt that - Grunjar knows that the subtype is water (and it is cold in the catacombs, so I believe that the reason for the ice). But we won't know until we try...
Anyway, the king lost his axe, his armor and his cloak of resistance +2. He is much easier to hit and does not deal that much damage anymore.
Unfortunately, he will still bestow negative levels if he hits...
BTW: Is anyone going to wear the king's cloak of resistance +2? Maybe Inga?

![]() |

Oh! Cool, thanks! I'll use the cloak for the rest of the scenario. Unless, of course someone else can use it.

![]() |

Myth could exchange his cloak of elvenkind, the rest of the party already has a cloak of resistance +2...
Grunjar's spellslots are updated for the catacombs.

Right. Will go with the 1280gp first Raise Dead Negative level.
So total cost:
5430gp and 8 Prestige

hey Grunjar, if you want some scrolls, let me know. i'll get them and you can hang on to them. i got 13k to spend...just don't bankrupt me...

hey Grunjar, if you want some scrolls, let me know. i'll get them and you can hang on to them. i got 13k to spend...just don't bankrupt me...
I'm pretty sure that is not allowed in PFS.
However, to have another (my own) scroll of Restoration would be wise. I'll repay you at the end of the scenario - I think that's allowed...
Will post in gameplay later.

GM supervillan |

Whilst you cannot buy items to give permanently to other PCs, nor can you permanently trade items, any character can lend items they own to another PC. The owner takes them back at the end of the scenario (unless they've been used up of course).
You can also "pool" gold to purchase consumables, but at the end of the scenario one PC must reimburse the others or the items must be sold at half price and the proceeds split amongst those who contributed to the purchase. This does mean that one PC can buy a consumable item, and another PC reimburse them at the end of the scenario. (See p.20 of the guide).

![]() |

Thank you for the clarification, GM supervillan. :-)
@Rallas: Please buy a scroll of restoration for Grunjar. Thanks!

![]() |

Hmm. I've never considered getting enlarge person for Klaus. That might be something for me to look into.
I'll post Inga's & Klaus'buffs later today. Definitely the first is Protection from Evil.
Do you guys want to be hasted to fight the headless king? I got a scroll.

![]() |

Hmm. I've never considered getting enlarge person for Klaus. That might be something for me to look into.
I'm not sure it would work.
The target of enlarge person is one humanoid creature - and isn't Klaus' type outsider (phantom)?I'll post Inga's & Klaus'buffs later today. Definitely the first is Protection from Evil.
Do you guys want to be hasted to fight the headless king? I got a scroll.
You could just cast it without the scroll, too - or are you going to save your spell slots for the linnorm?
I'd also say we should attack him from a distance as much as possible - even without his axe he still bestows one negative level per turn (if he succeds with an attack).Who is best with a bow or crossbow and wants my bit of luck for it? Myth?
Regarding the fight against the dragon - do we need to fly or protection from energy?
Also, we did not ask Kolvi anything about the linnorm at all... :-(
