Kahwen, if your elven curve blade is keen then that is a crit.
Elven curved blades have a crit range of 18-20. Keen doubles that to 15-20.

Confirming that crit would kill the guard outright I'm sure.

Assuming in the abstraction that helping the other squads does not really help the mission, so will assume they are ok...
It hardly seems fair. These guards are just stalling or something. They cannot be the main assassin I'd almost bet.
Something seems off. Wembly scratches his thin beard as he tries to figure if it is worth doing anything further.
We have got to get those doors open pronto!
The Bralani will cast mirror image on itself then scout ahead, trying to get to the door behind the guards to open it.

D'oh! Part of the point of this build is the critting. It is keen. For some reason, I was thinking the base crit was 19-20. Thanks for keeping me straight, guys.
In an uncharacteristic move, for him, especially after being hit, Kahwen does not dart around the battlefield. Instead, he just takes a careful step to get to the next guard and starts cutting, his slender, curved blade dancing like a viper to strike from all directions.

@Wembley The Lion Blades are having no trouble with their guards either
Kahwen feels for his wound and realizes the guard's blade actually hit his flintbox instead. Wembly disappears after sending his summons forward. Bolstered by his newfound luck, Kahwen dual slices both remaining guards in a single fluid motion and they drop like sacks of grain.
There is a nauseous thud as the doors bulge outward from the poor senators and guests trying to escape the carnage in the chamber. The screams and pleas grow louder and you can tell dozens, if not hundreds, remain trapped behind the barred doors.
Up to 4 characters can position around the doors to deal with the thick wooden crossbar barring the exit. It can be removed with either a strength check (with up to 3 aids) or destroyed with enough damage from a bludgeoning or slashing weapon.

Cassandra is too frail to help with any lifting. She stands ready to twist fate for her allies.
Misfortune if it looks like the lifters are going to fail.
Mivvy Hetherington |
We are not a strong group. Mivvy's blade, however, is adamantine...
Using weapon versatility to switch to slashing as a free action Mivvy begins to hack at the wooden crossbar.
I'm never sure how this works. Is it an auto-hit? An auto-crit?
GM Erich |
@Mivvy There is an attack roll (nearly automatic though) for each strike unless you take a full round action to line up a single hit. Objects are immune to criticals.
If anyone is going to take this route, go ahead and roll several rounds of attacks and damage and we'll see how long it takes to breach.
Wembly Templeton |
The Azata will also hack with its scimitar.
Wembly really needs to buy a spare adamantine weapon to give to his summons for these can-opener situations.
Well, have at it, Byron!
The outsider wields its scimitar in both hands and starts hacking the door with zeal.

Matrialda |
Matrialda moves to the side in an attempt to clear a path for those fleeing once the doors are opened.
Thankfully haste will give folks an extra attack each round, which might make the difference with an adamantine weapon. I was really hoping pilfering hand might have been of use here, but a bar is a bit more than a Steal or Disarm maneuver can handle.

The beam is breached after a full round of hacking.
Crunching easily through the splintering wood, the group manages to break the bar. Throwing the doors open, the wide eyed faces of the Taldan governors and guests literally scream at you as they scratch and crawl over each other in an attempt to leave first.
Within the chamber, Stavian’s loyal soldiers, Ulfen Guards, foreign agents, and other powers work to enact the grand prince’s purge. Several of the dignitaries with combat expertise fight back against the Taldan traitors. Many have been slaughtered this day.
Three figures watch the bloody carnage from thirty feet above. A woman clad in a silver breastplate and flashing a rapier hovers and watches with delight as the plan comes to fruition. She is flanked on either side by devils wielding ranseurs, their twin pairs of mangy wings flapping in concert to keep them aloft.
She spots the doors open and smiles wickedly, screaming with measured anger over the din. "And now the Pathfinders have arrived! Too late, I say! But I, Karina Deckland, will avenge my sister's fate! Kill them!" New pictures

Cassandra can't quite solidify the blindness. Even Evermore's missiles fizzle as they arc toward their target. Mivvy stretches out unnaturally and plugs the devil full of holes. It falls gracelessly into the crowd below, trampled further as they scramble to leave.

Kahwen |
Fly for last round: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24
With both devils dead, there's nothing left for it but the mortal responsible for bringing them.
Kahwen angles slightly down, flapping his wings rapidly and sloping down to gain more momentum. He swipes at the woman as he gets near, slicing down with his long blade.

Slashing plus SA: 1d10 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Lowering down to 5' as I move forward (which doesn't require a fly check, I believe.) She's bleeding 4 and -2 to hit and -4 to hit Kahwen the next turn.
GM Erich |
Kahwen dives down and slashes through the hapless villain. She recoils admirably from the force of the blow then returns the favor with a shocking flurry of her own. Her eyes focus once again and she prepares for another round with her foe.

Cease this foolishness, woman!

Bleh!
Wembly sees the woman as the only remaining threat.
Well, that does not seem very nice. Seeing that you started all this mess in the first place!
He casts grease on her rapier (DC18 or drop)

Mivvy Hetherington |
Mivvy pushes through the crowd with the help of magical speed and gets behind the woman.
Mivvy has reach so she is flanking with Kahwen.
Kahwen |
Kahwen squawks then squawks again as Karina gives as good as she gets.
He sees Mivvy move into place and gives her a faint nod. It's always good to work with professionals and he's in no position to move around too much.
He flaps his wings to keep himself in position (autosuccess on the hover check) and swings rapidly and repeatedly with his sword.

The azata rushes to aid but Karina is ready for the assault.
"I will kill you all, but especially you Cassandra! You were one of the wretches responsible for my sister’s death!"
Losing the grip on her now greasy rapier, it falls to the ground, kicked further by a panicking noble across the polished marble.
Cassandra blasts her with one of her twin fire rays but Evermore's missiles explode harmlessly against her protective shield. Mivvy moves in to provide the flank and the weakened but still vital Kahwen is able to lower to her level and deliver the fatal blow.

As the conspiratorial Deckland woman falls to the Pathfinders, there are muted cheers in the chamber. Hundreds still need to be ushered to safety and the Lion Blades take the lead. As you gather around Kahwen to attend to his grievous wound, a battered and bruised Lady Gloriana Morilla approaches, her face lacking any of the confidence you have seen in her before.
"Thank the gods you arrived in time, this would have been a complete massacre." Out of breath and shaken to almost delirium, she continues. "What has become of my country? Without a hint of anger, Grand Prince Stavian ruthlessly executed Kalbio of Breezy Creek - the poor man, the man he was here to honor as an example of Taldan simplicity - then just casually ordered all of our deaths."
She continues to shake her head in disbelief.
"The Ulfen Guard stood with him, and many other soldiers remained loyal throughout his betrayal. I just don't know who I can trust anymore."
Regaining a measure of her considerable dignity, she straightens up.
"Just before you arrived, a Lion Blade agent within the crowd managed to leap atop the presentation platform shortly after Kalbio’s death and stabbed the Grand Prince through the heart. Instant magic tore him away from here, but it was clear - the wound was fatal. Which means succession is in play, and I believe Taldor’s best future lies in the hands of Princess Eutropia. However, prior to the ceremony, Stavian strangely declared High Strategos Maxillar Pythareus as his heir apparent. Perhaps he divined his own fate?"
She looks to you for any confirmation.
"No matter. Civil war is now imminent for my country, and I intend to do everything I can to contain such a potentially catastrophic conflict."
As the desperate crowd thins within the chamber proper, the sounds of battle and panic continue to echo in the halls surrounding you.
"You must recover quickly - then help the Lion Blades secure this building and put down the sporadic fighting that’s spilled out before it reaches the streets. The heart of Taldor must be secure before the nation can rise again."
A senatorial staff member races up to Gloriana and whispers into her ear. The Lady's face tightens and she turns to you. "I've just been told that Stavian’s closest conspiratorial confidante, Earl Calhadion Vernisant, is the noble keeping the Stavian loyalists together within this building. For this crisis to pass, you must neutralize the earl."
She nods grimly.
You've had three rounds to heal and buff further as she talked. Let me know what else you wish to do.
