"I mean, yeah, we'll find the culprit and stop them. Can you give us directions to the alley where you, ah," he pauses when he realizes what he is asking, then just plows ahead, "where you found your friend's body?"
”Yeah…I can…s-show you the way.”
*
The trek to the Devil’s Nursery was largely spent in silence. The tieflings of the Nursery give the group some sidelong glances and a wide berth.
Eventually, Zea leads the PCs to a less-traversed part of town near the southern wall. She stops next to an alley and hesitates. She moves to the side as she leans next to the wall. ”C-Comfort’s down there.” She looks unwilling to go down the alley again.
When the PCs go into the alley, they sure enough find the corpse of a tiefling, their face mutilated and covered in dozens of small bruises, dried blood having pooled in their mouth and some spilling out.
I’m aware that basically all of these checks should be secret, but I’m lazy and want to expedite this. Any check to Recall Knowledge can be substituted with Bardic Lore.

Jisara
Jisara places a reassuring hand on Zea's shoulder, turning her away from the alley. "Wait here for us, okay? Thatch, look around and see if you find anything interesting." She walks down the alley, trying to take in the scene.
Going to use discern secrets for my Society check (and these Perception checks if you think it applies. I'll split out the bonuses so it's easier to track. I'll also cast it on anyone attempting the other Recall Knowledge checks.
Thatch Perception: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
Jisara Perception: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Jisara Society: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 20
Oof, those rolls.
She kneels next to Comfort's body, careful not to disturb it any more than it already has been. Jisara looks back toward the others and calls out to them, her voice soft. "Chance, can you come over here, please? I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for."
“Chance” Ravennablitz
Including the +1 from Jisara's discern secrets in each of these checks:
Perception: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
Recall Knowledge (Bardic Lore {Society}): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 = 22
Recall Knowledge (Bardic Lore {Medicine}): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 1 = 23
Recall Knowledge, degree of success increased by one step (Bardic Lore {Nature}): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 = 25
"No, no, this couldn't have been the Slasher. Gods, this must have been agonizing. Look at this bruising - Comfort's face was pinched all over, brutally hard. Nose, ears, even the fingers show the same markings, but mostly on the cheeks and lips around the mouth. Speaking of which, there's something odd about that..." Using the tip of his dagger, the gnome carefully separates Comfort's bruised and swollen lips and grunts in confusion. He leans forward for a closer look, then yanks his blade away and falls back onto his rump.
Chance leaps to his feet and backs away, slapping a hand over his mouth, eyes darting frantically all around the alley. After a moment, he lifts the hand a hair's breadth away from his mouth and hisses, "Her teeth are gone! All of them!" He pauses, then adds, "Don't you see? IT WAS TOOTH FAIRIES!" Chance notices Thatch next to Jisara and darts over to stand behind the cat. "Cats terrify the murderous little jerks!" He clamps one hand back over his mouth, and clutches his dagger tightly in the other.
From the Nature spoiler: Tooth fairies are fearful of cats, even newborn kittens, and the antipathy is mutual, as cats hunt and kill tooth fairies with relish. Jisara gains a +1 circumstance bonus to Demoralize tooth fairies; Thatch gains a +4 circumstance bonus instead and Thatch doesn't take a penalty for not speaking the same language as the tooth fairies.
GM Xavier Kahlvet
Discern secrets only lasts a minute, not 10, so the bonus wouldn't have applied to the Medicine check because it wasn't there throughout the entirety of the 10 minutes, so technically Chance didn't get a critical success on the Medicine check.
Chance Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Okay, so with that check he basically did, but even so, the spell only lasts a minute, requires Jisara's concentration (meaning that to Sustain it for so long she basically would have to forgo doing ANY of the checks as well as risk becoming fatigued), and makes the target temporarily immune for a minute, so discern secrets isn't exactly super viable in this context, especially since these checks are mostly supposed to be a representative culmination of multiple single-action checks; basically the only one that wasn't was the Society check and the Nature check, and for the latter you couldn't realistically have had discern secrets going during that.
“Chance” Ravennablitz
Ah, got it, sorry. With that Perception check, it seems like the results are the same, correct?
Vitalis Tanessen
"Tooth faeries?" Vitalis looks around nervously. "Could they still be around?"
"Zea mentioned multiple deaths, right? If they are also missing their teeth, then we likely discovered the culprit. But now, how do we find them?"
Jisara
"We might be able to pinpoint a likely spot for a nest if we can find the locations of the other bodies. Failing that, well, they're hunting tieflings," Jisara says, her face grim. "If we can't find them, they'll probably come looking for me."
GM Xavier Kahlvet
"We might be able to pinpoint a likely spot for a nest if we can find the locations of the other bodies. Failing that, well, they're hunting tieflings," Jisara says, her face grim. "If we can't find them, they'll probably come looking for me."
Gonna heavily expedite this part; Jisara gets a +2 circumstance bonus on the check due to being a tiefling.
Jisara Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 26
With two hours of asking around the Devil’s Nursery, Jisara is able to determine that approximately twenty tieflings have gone missing or found dead. She is able to discover where a number of the corpses were discovered. Map of Kintargo updated with red X’s to show where each body was found.
Rigel Exaltae
Rigel keeps lookout as they investigate the bodies.
"Well, they're not exactly in any sort of specific radius." Rigel says, frowning at a crude map he drew on a piece of parchment. "Maybe it's by the walls?"
“Chance” Ravennablitz
I don't know if it matters, but can you make the X for the alley where we found Comfort's body a different color, so we can see the location of the most recent murder?
"That's a good point, Rigel. We don't know the enough about the order to be sure," Chance muses, "but maybe they started here," he points to the northernmost X, "and are moving outward. So what's at that spot?"
And whichever way they're going, why are the tooth fairies only interested in tiefling teeth?
GM Xavier Kahlvet
I don't know if it matters, but can you make the X for the alley where we found Comfort's body a different color, so we can see the location of the most recent murder?
Done. It is now blue.
Vitalis Tanessen
Vitalis ponders over the locations of the previous victims. "That's a lot of ground to cover. Are they specifically targeting tieflings or is it just coincidence that tieflings are the primary inhabitants of the Devil's Nursury? Either way, I hate to say it but our best bet would probably be for Jisara to try to bait them out. At least Jisara can defend herself; and of course, we'll be nearby for back up. Otherwise, another helpless commoner might end up being targeted instead. I like Rigel's idea of looking by the walls. At least it's a place to start, lacking any better idea."
Within the two hours asking around the Nursery, could I also diplomacy to ask if anyone knows anything about tooth fairies that might benefit us? Diplomacy +7.
GM Xavier Kahlvet
Vitalis doesn’t learn much about tooth fairies, per se, other than what he already knew, but he does learn that the residents of the Devil’s Nursery have been staying inside during the night, with some reporting strange laughter every two-ish days.
I'll continue the narrative in the morning.
GM Xavier Kahlvet
The PCs then spend the rest of the day trying to draw out the tooth fairies. Jisara is used as bait to draw them out while the rest of the party stays close by. Very little happens until nightfall.
As Jisara is wandering the streets, she suddenly hear vicious chattering! She turns to find eight palm-sized, pink, winged creatures with big heads each wielding a pair of normal-sized pliers—definitely tooth fairies—rushing at her! The PCs prepare for combat, but as soon as the tooth fairies see Jisara has backup—and a cat—they all hesitate. Suddenly, one of the tooth fairies shouts.
”Teith!!!”
The fairies scatter, quickly flying out of reach of the PCs and going in all directions! The PCs give chase.
The fleeing tooth fairies are narrowly ahead of the PCs—both go at about the same speed, but the PCs have to maneuver around obstacles on the ground, on the other hand, the flying fairies can’t hide in the sky, and coming close to the ground to hide risks them being captured.
Unfortunately, even with the streets relatively empty at this time of night, chasing down the fairies isn’t simple.
Due to the fast-paced nature of the chase, the order each round that the party goes in is determined by who posts first, because you don’t really have time to coordinate who goes before whom. If the party gets over what is needed to overcome an obstacle, then I will move on to the next obstacle and possibly ask some players to repost with the understanding that they would have been attempting checks against the new obstacle, rather than the previous one (it’ll make more sense when we get to it).
The people being chased (the tooth fairies in this case) always go first.
The tooth fairies fly over the obstacle and automatically make it to the next position, flying over a set of confusing alleys!

Chase starts running, trying to remember maps of the Devil's Nursery that his friend Zamir had shown him during one of the missing halfling's long expositions about the (purely speculative) relationship between the ringing of the Devil's Bells and the supposedly mystical design of the streets of the city south of the Yolubilis River.

*Stargazer*
He probably would have changed into Stargazer, at least at nightfall, since they're in public.

They enter a sort of underground hidey-hole. Before they have any time to make any preparations, the PCs already arrive on the scene. Out from the hidey-hole emerges dozens and dozens of tooth fairies, all of them abandoning any attempt at ambush and instead viciously attacking! Because the tooth fairies weren’t too far ahead of y’all when the chase ended, they didn’t get time to prepare and possibly ambush you. Bewildered, Chance squints to focus on his attacker through the floating spots suddenly clouding his vision.

"Bwah!" is as close to a magical invocation as Jisara manages, flinging up her arms against the approaching cloud of tooth fairies. She then sprints through the temporary gap in their line, hoping the paladin can provide a measure of protection.

Swarm Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
But the tooth fairies part and let the stars by. Since the swarm succeeded at the save, it takes no damage, so its weakness doesn’t trigger. And the dazzled won’t be consequential since the swarm doesn’t “attack,” so I’m just not going to note it.
Jisara likewise casts a spell on the swarm.
