*Stargazer* |

Stargazer jumps a bit at the sight of the ogre in the hallway, before quietly launching a psychic assault on the creature, filling his mind with noise, drowning everything out and shaking him to his core.

Lout Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
The tieflings all move out from the hallway where the ogre is. The only other thing of note is that Green also Takes Cover.

“Chance” Ravennablitz |

Chance groans as the tieflings come running in response to the ogre's call.
"Me think me found them!”
"No, you didn't. We are not the devastatingly charming and good-looking rebels you're looking for."
The little bard darts forward without waiting for an answer, stopping just outside (he hopes) the ogre's reach. He points at the three tieflings and shouts, "Gustumu la ĉielarkon!"
Looking back over his shoulder, he says, "Well, it worked upstairs!"
◆: Stride
◆◆: Cast a spell, color spray (DC 19 Will save)
Had to fiddle with the AoE spell template to make sure I had it right; Chance targets Lout and Red (if he can't target Red because of the obstacle, then he will target Blue and Green instead - the key is to get at least 2 targets in the AoE without standing right next to a tiefling when he casts).

Vitalis Tanessen |

Glaive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 If that's a crit, I'll move the ogre 5 ft. south (down)
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Demoralize: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Vitalis steps up towards the ogre and batters him to the side. "More like, we found you. And you're going to wish we didn't!"
◆: Stride
◆: Strike (Ogre)
◆: Demoralize (Ogre)

Jisara |

Jisara sends a loose bit of furniture hurtling at the ogre, trying to knock him off balance, then hides herself behind the wall again.
Telekinetic Projectile vs Ogre: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Bludgeoning: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7
◆◆: Cast telekinetic projectile. ◆: Take cover.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I was trying to move the ogre into the area that Chance will color spray. So if I crit, can I move the ogre diagonal southwest? Unless that's too meta then south is fine. But I think if we were at a table, I could communicate with Chance to plan the best placement.
I’ll allow it; technically speaking, Vitalis goes before Chance, so he could assist in that regard.
Vitalis advances forward and chops his glaive into the ogre’s leg, giving the paladin just enough grab to pull the ogre closer!
Deadly d8: 1d8 ⇒ 5 So a total of 15 damage.
Vitalis then threatens the ogre, who easily starts trembling at his words.
Chance advances forward and lets loose a cone of colors! I believe this is a 1st-level color spray because I think you used all of your 2nd-level slots. That said, I’m actually not sure what your signature spells are.
Blue: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 Success
Green: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Crit Fail
While the two tieflings are affected by the gnome’s magic, the massive ogre looks completely unaffected.
Jisara then launches furniture and manages to hit the ogre! Though the ogre did have cover against that attack.
The ogre looks down at Vitalis. ”Lout crush scary little man for nice devil lady!” The ogre—Lout—raises a ghastly hook that he holds in one hand not a club like what’s in the picture and swings it wildly at Vitalis!
Lout vs Vitalis; frightened 1: 1d20 + 12 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 12 - 1 = 16

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Lout Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Green stands around stunned by Chance’s magic.
The remaining two tieflings move forward! Red stops on the stairs to flank Chance with the ogre. The tiefling lets out a kiai as it punches twice at the gnome!
Red vs Chance FF; Ki Strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 = 27
Damage (doubled from crit): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Force Damage (doubled from crit): 1d6 ⇒ 3
Red vs Chance FF; 2nd, agile, Ki Strike: 1d20 + 7 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 4 + 1 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Force Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Going to presume that there’s a Retributive Strike in there, so I’ll deduct the resistance from that damage (Vitalis can roll for the proper Strike part of it, though).
Red then retreats, going up the stairs to now accost Jisara! Bear in mind that going up stairs is difficult terrain (this was already taken into account with the tieflings’ movement)
Blue then does the exact same: moving to flank Chance with the ogre, letting loose a kiai followed by two punches, then moving to threaten Jisara.
Blue vs Chance FF; Ki Strike: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Force Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
DC 5 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Blue vs Chance FF; 2nd, agile, Ki Strike: 1d20 + 7 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 4 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Force Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
DC 5 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 10
And because I know Chance: ↻ Unexpected Shift; DC 16 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 17
With a strange flash of light, Chance phases from reality just in time to resist some of the tiefling’s attack! Technically speaking, the damage from both Strikes is added up before the resistance applies, which is beneficial to Chance because it means he resists an extra 2 force damage.

Vitalis glances at the two tieflings rushing towards Jisara in dismay but the ogre is the greater threat and Chance is badly wounded so he stands fast where he is. "Lout won't be crushing anyone!" Vitalis slashes his glaive at Lout's neck and sends him stumbling backwards. Will move Lout east (right)
Glaive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Vitalis then takes a step closer to Chance and attacks again. If Lout is still alive, I'll move to where I marked A and attack him, otherwise, I'll move to where I marked B and attack green. But it's probably a miss either way.

Correct. Soothe is Chance's signature 1st level spell; color spray doesn't have a heightened effect.
"Ooooow, I don't feel so good." Chance reels from the pummeling he received and from his sudden and still surprising minor (but very helpful) teleportation. Still, he tries singing weakly.
"Go, go Silver Ravens!

Casting grease in the red squares on the map, DC 19 Reflex save or Acrobatics check or they fall prone. Anyone moving into the squares must attempt the same Reflex save or Acrobatics check to Balance, unless they Step or Crawl into the square. The squares remain greased for 1 minute. Jisara summons grease beneath the tieflings’ feet. Not going to bother rolling for Green, as it’ll be inconsequential.
Purple Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Vitalis easily cuts through Green and knocks them out. Redirecting the second Strike to Purple, but it’ll still miss.
Stargazer sends forth a bolt of entropy that hits Purple. The divine lance wasn’t accounting for inspire courage
Chance throws a dagger and flees up the stairs. Dunno if there’s just something weird (since I’m on mobile) but from what I’m seeing it looks like Chance didn’t move.
I’m a bit busy at the moment; I’ll post the tieflings’ turns later.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Moved Chance’s token to the most likely spot that he went.

Okay, I currently do not have the adventure in front of me, so I cannot properly give out loot or box text. I DO, however, have the map and tokens for the next combat because I anticipated this circumstance occurring. Bear with me and I will correct things once I have the adventure in front of me and I’m not working off the top of my head.
In this room are several plaques labeling what can only be described as cursed items. The items themselves are not here.
To the south
This room is charred and scorched this is where the hellhound is usually kept
To the east
This room clearly was being used by the CRIDACH members to research the various documents.
To the northeast
In stark contrast to the rest of the Many-Steps Monastery, this room contains a lush meadow, complete with vibrant green grass and a stream of flowing water. A pile of tomes are stacked up on the far side of the room.
Standing at the other side of the stream is Lord-Mayor Thrune’s personal bodyguard, a woman none of you have seen since the Aria Park riot: Nox. In one hand she holds a glaive that she’s planted into the ground. Her other hand is scratching behind the ear of a fiendish canine whose body burns with an unholy fire. Map (hopefully) Updated
The hellhound Mephiry immediately snarls at the PCs’ approach, and Nox lightly slaps the hound on the side of the head. ”Oh hush. You’ll get your chance.” Nox turns to address the newcomers. ”I figured the Hellspawn wouldn’t do much, so I’m glad to get some excitement. But I’m gracious enough—and morbidly curious—so before I kill you,” Nox places her free hand on her glaive and Points it at the PCs. ”Who the hell are you?!”

In the southwest wall is a hidden secret panel with a very strong lock, but Rexus’s key opens it. Inside is a silver-and-mother-of-pearl ink pen worth 50 gp, a platinum disk depicting a leering angel worth 25 gp, and a set of healer’s gloves
To the “south”
Partially burned benches and scorched chairs fill this room, facing a toppled podium at the southwestern end.
To the “east”
Jars of preserved fruits and vegetables and stacks of salted meat fill shelves carved into the bedrock walls. A halfdozen tables in the room are heaped with scrolls, books, and parchments.
The books in this room function as five separate Scholarly journal compendiums on the history of various regions of Cheliax. Each of the compendiums weigh 1 Bulk instead of light. Inventory Updated
To the “northeast”
The eastern half of this colossal chamber appears almost theaterlike, with an arched ceiling painted roughly like the night sky and hanging lanterns radiant with cool, white flame. The room presents an incongruous sight this far underground—a resplendent garden, complete with a babbling brook, a gravel footpath, and all manner of flowering and fruiting plants. The pathway winds through the lush grass, over a small footbridge, and to a book-covered knoll at the far end. The brook cascades into the room from the north and then flows through a grate to the south.
Now back to the present:
"You must not remember us from when you were murdering innocents in Aria Park but I remember you vividly. You won't survive to benefit from the knowledge of who we are but I don't know who else is listening. So let's just say we are justice and this is the end for you."
”’Innocents’?! Was there another Aria Park event, because I specifically remember those being rioters! The ‘innocents’ wised up and ran; everyone that remained were violent dissenters who could have killed me if I did nothing!”
”…who could have killed me…”
Nox does not genuinely believe this statement.

"You really believe that don't you? You truly are deranged."
Nox chuckles. ”I prefer ‘pragmatic.’ And I wouldn’t blame you for not noticing in the chaos, but I took a knife to the throat in that riot!” Nox glides her fingers across the front of her scarless neck. ”Healed up beautifully, don’t you think, Mephiry? And for the record, neither I nor the dottari killed anyone in that riot! All of the casualties were from other rioters or a few idiots in the Chelish Citizens’ Group that don’t know how to properly incapacitate anyone. Everyone else were arrested for destruction of property and disturbing the peace. Meanwhile you lot have just committed a mass killing of several government workers on orders from the Lord-Mayor himself! Even if the Hellspawn were originally just homeless bums that were, ahem, ‘recruited’ from off the streets, CRIDACH is still a government organization! At this point your death would be in self-defense as I fight for my own life; I will happily fill out that paperwork if it means I get to do something besides reading boring books all day.”

Jisara |

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Jisara scoffs. "She doesn't. She thinks she's invincible. Introductions are wasted on her, but you do give me an idea." She smiles and takes a breath before calling out to the woman in an imperious tone.
"Enough! I am Hellknight Sorgren of the Order of the Chain, commanded to apprehend Nox for dereliction of duty and abuse of power. Throw down your weapons immediately and you will be taken to Citadel Gheradesca unharmed. Refuse, and it will go badly for you."
My Deception is +7. ;) I'm assuming she can't see me since I'm behind the wall.

Nox is taken aback for a moment, but then almost immediately recomposes herself. ”Let me see a warrant for my arrest, then! Or am I adding ‘impersonating a Hellknight’ to the list of crimes being committed today?!”

Chance thinks for a moment, decides that isn’t where he wants to finish, takes a breath, and continues.
“And made up other crazy rules, just to have reasons to lock people up or enslave them or murder them whenever he wants! Kintargo has suffered enough, and we ... we four perfectly ordinary, anonymous Kintargans are going to stop him! And you!”

”Oooh! Rioting, mass murder, impersonation of a Hellknight, disrespect of the Lord-Mayor’s authority, and now terrorism!” Nox positions herself in a defensive stance as she glares forward with her pure-white eyes. ” That’s bingo!”

Vitalis Tanessen |

I am Hellknight Sorgren of the Order of the Chain
Vitalis raises an eyebrow and glances in Jisara's direction with a mixture of bewilderment and amusement. Oh really?
Glaive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Vitalis doesn't wait for Nox to unleash her pet. He rushes onto the bridge and swings his glaive at the fiery creature. He spreads his legs wide and holds his glaive horizontally, guarding the bridge from enemies crossing. "I am Shelyn's shield and you will not pass without facing me!"
◆: Stride x2
◆: Strike (Mephiry)

“Chance” Ravennablitz |

“Nox, if you want to roll the dice with us, even knowing how it went for everyone else here who tried, then we’ll be -“ terrified “happy to oblige! For Zamir and all your other victims!”
Chance takes a breath and begins to sing.
“There’s a land that I see where the people are free
And I say it ain’t far to this land from where we are
Take my hand, come with me, where the people are free
Come with me, take my hand, and we’ll live...
“In that land, the Yolubilis flows free
In a land through silver country
In a land without devilry
Where you and me are free to be
You and me.”
Chance moves a few steps into the strange meadow, stopping 30’ from Nox and 25’ from Mephiry, and tries to remember what he has read about hellhounds.
◆: Cast a Spell, inspire courage
◆: Stride
◆: Recall Knowledge (Occultism +9, otherwise Bardic Lore +7)

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I knew I forgot to mention something! Moving through the water is difficult terrain. I legitimately meant to say that and forgot.
Vitalis advances to the bridge and slices into Mephiry! Though the hellhound just seems to take the damage in stride.
Chance begins singing and moves forward.
To be clear: Recall Knowledge in combat is weirdly written in the RAW, so how I run it is that you can attempt multiple checks on the same topic, but they get progressively more difficult, and eventually you’ll be unable to attempt more checks (I’ll be very explicit about when you can no longer attempt checks to Recall Knowledge on a particular thing).
Important question: who has the healer’s gloves That y’all found?

"Crud! It really is a hound from Hell! I was hoping that was just an exaggeration!"

Jisara |

Jisara grins back at Vitalis and starts to say something, but the paladin rushes off to vanquish evil. "Hey! Wait a second!" she calls out, chasing after him.
"You forgot something," she says once she catches up to him and finishes laying an enchantment on his glaive. "Now you're ready."
◆: Stride. ◆◆: Cast magic weapon on Vitalis's glaive.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Jisara moves over and enchants Vitalis’s glaive.
Nox smirks. ”Oh, we’re just getting started! Mephiry!”
Mephiry exits Delay. At his mistress’s command, the hellhound rushes across the stream to the other side, leaving behind scorching pawprints in the grass. He stops just south of Jisara and Vitalis and inhales deeply, exhaling a massive cone of fire! ◆◆ Breath Weapon; red cone (technically it’s written as one action, but I know enough about this game to know that that is ridiculously overpowered, so I’m making a GM call that it’s two actions).
Jisara: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Failure
Thatch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 Success
Vitalis: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Critical Failure
Recharge: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Case in point; it should not be a single-action ability. Vitalis can use Retributive Strike to let Jisara resist 5 of that damage, but he won’t get a subsequent Strike due to being too far away. Similarly, Jisara can use phase familiar to have Thatch resist all but 1 of that damage. I’m going to be going under the assumption that both of these are true for the damage down in the initiative card.
”Good boy! My turn!”
Nox tramples her way across the stream right next to Chance. ◆ Stride ”Mephiry, with me!” ◆ Support The hound and bodyguard then turn to Chance as Nox swings her glaive at the gnome!
Nox vs Chance: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
Damage (doubled from crit): 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 2) + 5 = 12 Deadly: 1d8 ⇒ 5 plus 2 persistent bleed.
Buckle up, things are about to get complicated! Nox chops and sticks her glaive into Chance’s shoulder! As the gnome screams in pain, he leaves enough of an opening for Mephiry ↻ Support: Flaming Tendon Bite who lunges at the gnome’s ankles and tears at his tendons, the beast’s flaming maw almost immediately cauterizing the wound—but not the damage! Chance takes a -10-foot status penalty to his Speeds for 1 minute. With her glaive still firmly in the gnome’s shoulder, Nox forcefully moves her glaive, shoving Chance over as her glaive is removed from the gnome’s shoulder! Critical specialization of polearms: moving Chance 5 feet to the right.

Vitalis Tanessen |

Whelp, Vitalis feels stupid guarding the bridge if they are going to just tramble across the river like savages. Also, critical fail on the reflex save?! F me!
Despite being engulfed in a direct blast of flames, he grits his teeth and menacingly steps forward, parting the waves of fire and cutting down towards the hellhoud. "It'll take more than that to stop me!" he bluffs.
Glaive: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 1 = 15 Wow, both the hit and damage there are awful.
Damage: 2d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 4 + 1 = 8
Vitalis was hoping he wouldn't need to utilize his lay on hands so soon but after being roasted alive, he is forced to heal himself to keep standing.
◆: Stride
◆: Strike (Mephiry)
◆: Lay on Hands (Self) +12 hp

Jisara |

Under normal circumstances I would use Phase Familiar, but in this instance I'm going to need the focus point more. Also, IDK if the hell hound counts as a devil, but as a reminder in case they do: I have a +2 circumstance bonus to saves against their abilities.
Jisara cries out as the flames wash over her. She turns away from them, curling around Thatch in order to protect him from the worst of it. She whirls around once they pass, her face full of fury.
"Chance, get clear!" she shouts, sending him a pulse of healing energy with one hand as she casts a different spell in the other.
Chance: if you can, please move to a space where I can catch the two of them in a 10-foot burst without hitting you. I put the area on the map so you have a clearer idea but I'll adjust it to account for wherever you end up.
◆: Cast life boost on Chance. ◆◆: Cast glitterdust on the targeted space. Targets must make DC 19 Reflex save. On a failure, they are dazzled for 1 minute. On a critical failure, they are blinded for 1 round and dazzled for 10 minutes. I doubt any invisibility effects will come into play here but if they do, any invisibility is negated for the same duration as the dazzling effects, or 2 rounds on a success.
If it turns out I can't get the spell off without catching friendlies, I'll instead cast fear on the hell hound, DC 19 Will.

*Stargazer* |

The vigilante mutters under his breath as he throws a glowing blue translucent starknife. As it flies, the magical knife arcs directly towards the hellhound, and Stargazer summons a magical shield in front of him.
◆◆ Spiritual Weapon Strike vs. Mephiry: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 1 = 14, 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7 Force damage
◆ Shield

↻: Unexpected Shift (triggered by Nox)
Ah well, it was worth a shot.
"Yeee-oooww!" Chance takes a guarded 5' step away from Nox, then flexes the healer's gloves to activate their once per day magical healing (assuming that the wearer can use the gloves to heal themself - the word "adjacent" worries me a bit; if not allowed, I'll do something else).
Healer's gloves: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19
After a ragged breath, Chance continues his song.
"I see a land of shining silver, and the time's comin' closer
When we'll chase Thrunes and devils out of Ravounel,
We'll send them all running back to Hell
Take my hand, come along, lend your voice to my song
Come along, take my hand, sing along

In a land through silver country
In a land without devilry
Where you and me are free to be
You and me.”
◆: Step
◆: Interact (healer's gloves)
◆: Cast a Spell, inspire courage
↻: Unexpected Shift (if triggered)

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Resolving in turn order:
Stargazer summons a starknife of pure force that misses Mephiry.
Vitalis heals himself and strikes at Mephiry, missing completely.
Chance moves away and activates his newly-acquired gloves. Interact has the manipulation trait, so... Nox sees the gnome activating his item and grips her glaive and swings at Chance! ”Oh no you don’t!”
↻ Nox Attack of Opportunity vs Chance: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Damage: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 2) + 5 = 8
Chance has 1 HP, so that resolves! Barely at the verge of consciousness, Chance manages to heal his wounds, only for him to start bleeding profusely from the wound on his shoulder. 2 bleed damage
Chance DC 15 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Jisara then uses her magic to start healing Chance, followed by manifesting fabulous glitter right on Nox and Mephiry!
Nox: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Nox manages to shield her eyes from the glitter, but Mephiry isn’t so lucky.
Nox grunts, then grins as she looks at Chance. ”Hey, boy? You want a treat? I got one right here!”
Mephiry turns heel to look at Chance, steps forward, and bites at the injured gnome! I believe Chance and I privately established that Chance (the character) would actually be good-aligned, so he would take the evil damage.
Mephiry vs Chance: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Damage (doubled from crit): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Fire Damage (doubled from crit): 1d6 ⇒ 1 Evil Damage (doubled from crit): 1d6 ⇒ 3
DC 5 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Mephiry chomps into Chance hard and knocks the gnome unconscious! But because of life boost he’ll be back up by his next turn. Nox motions toward Vitalis and the hellhound complies by rushing at the paladin.
”Now as for you, Mr. ‘Shelyn’s shield.’ Mephiry, with me!” ◆ Support Nox swings her glaive at Vitalis!
Nox vs Vitalis w/lesser cover: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Damage: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 7) + 5 = 18 plus 1 persistent bleed
As Nox hits the paladin, Mephiry quickly goes to bite at his tendons! ↻ Support: Flaming Tendon Bite
DC 5 flat: 1d20 ⇒ 17 So the reaction resolves. Vitalis takes a -5-foot status penalty to his Speeds for 1 minute.
Nox then moves over to have both Jisara and Stargazer within reach of her glaive. Though the latter has cover from her (but that doesn’t stop her AoO from possibly occurring against him like it did in 1e).
”Can’t have any more of that spellcasting, now can we?”
Also, a note to Stargazer: spiritual weapon is actually one of the few spells where Sustaining it multiple times per turn can actually work (though the multiple attack penalty still applies normally).

Bleeding out and with his tendon torn to shreds, Vitalis hobbles around the hellhound near Chase. I'll at least make them work for the kill. And spend a movement to reach me.
Vitalis slashes at Mephiry twice. "Will you just die already?"
◆: Stride
◆: Strike (Mephiry) x 2

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I'll at least make them work for the kill. And spend a movement to reach me.
I know this is a bit of a small action, but I’m actually giving Vitalis a Hero Point here because this is the correct mindset! (Also because I feel a bit bad for all of the bad rolls you’ve been getting).
Nox stares at the moving Vitalis, back to Jisara, and back to Vitalis, but does not move herself. Nox does NOT take the Attack of Opportunity. Vitalis then slashes once into Mephiry’s skin.
