Peldur Perrindeldarion |

That's a weird thing to keep in a lighthouse.
Lots of rubble, Carrufikus. Some holes in the ceiling to the floor above. Double doors across the way. And a giant scorpion getting ready to go all cassomir on me! Pretty sure we'll need to elucidate it if we want to get by.

Noroc Zverokruh |

When you say "giant", Noroc asks, moving forward for a look, just how gianOHMYGODSTHATTHINGMUSTBEEIGHTFEETLONGSHUTTHEDOOR!

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Bibi steals a glance after Noroc's reaction. She splutters CAYDEN'S CODPIECE!!! THERE'S something you don't see every day--and are grateful for it!! Ummmm...suggestions? Are there any places we might safely plink away at this beastie?

Elena Solheim |

Elena steps over to see what the others see. She's quiet compared to the others, simply saying, "Peldur, please close the door."
Recall Knowledge? Nature is +4

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Elena peers over Peldur's shoulder. Any time Carrufikus isn't jumping into her line of sight, she can see the thing. the scorpion stands as if frozen in a contest with Peldur. After a few seconds, she backs up.
Giant scorpions are deadly with their pincers (which can easily grab) and their long stingers, which contain a potent weakening venom.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Elena Solheim |

Elena waits for Peldur to close the door. "A scorpion. Like their smaller brethren, those pincers are powerful and meant to grab prey. They hold them in place while repeatedly stabbing them with their stinger which, in turn, releases a potent poison. Needless to say, that thing is lethal if any of us were alone."
"Fortunately, it did not rush to kill anyone. This is a good thing, though I don't know if it can be reasoned with. It might be worthwhile for us to try to enter the room beyond from outside. Perhaps there's a hole in the northern wall that we can enter through. Regardless, I think entering there should be a last resort."

Noroc Zverokruh |

Noroc nods. I've no quarrel with a scorpion, and maybe if we leave its lair alone it'll have none with us.

Noroc Zverokruh |

I think we can too.
Are you off your herbs?!? Noroc says, aghast. Did you see the size of that thing? It was bigger than a horse!

Elena Solheim |

"I want to see what's in the other room as well. My suggestion was to find egress another way. But if you really want to forge ahead by going through the giant scorpion, I want you to just be aware of the dangers. I will do what I can to help."

Carrufikus |

"What are we suppose to do with a large scorpion living in this keep? It is going to see us as a potential meal every time it sees us.I cannot believe it to be safe to let it roam freely."

Peldur Perrindeldarion |

Could we head upstairs and then throw rocks at it from the holes in the floor? The holes in the ceiling... No... We'd be on the floor but it would see the holes in the ceiling... Would we be hitting it from the floor or the ceiling?

Talborel |

I haven't lived this long to let some overgrown vermin dictate where I go and don't go.
Talborel approaches the door, nocks an arrow and gets ready.
Peldur, if you do the honors and get the door, I'll start the dance. We'll pull this thing to the door and let the casters hit it from behind us. Ready? On three.

Noroc Zverokruh |

He's bonkers -- absolutely daft, Noroc mutters, pulling out his "walking stick" and falling in line behind Peldur, shaking his head.

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

I'll take a shot, then get aroudn to flank with you boys.
Bibi takes out her bow, nocks, and prepares to take a quick shot.

Elena Solheim |

Elena repositions herself and holds her hands out, ready to begin an incantation. "Ok Peldur, open it."
She watches as the helpful boy does so...

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Hard for Peldur to Avoid Notice. Going with Perception
As soon as Peldur moves to close the door, the stand off ends and the scorpion immediately moves to attack him! The door is NOT closed. Peldur's movement causes initiative, so it can be closed with a single action.

Peldur Perrindeldarion |

Peldur begins slowly closing the door, never taking his eyes off of the scorpion. As the winds of the conversation shift, Peldur pauses. He reopens the door and readies to rush in as the other prepare themselves in kind.

Peldur Perrindeldarion |

Peldur drops down into a lowered stance and rushes into the room. After closing with the scorpion, Peldur unleashes a series of quick strikes to its carapace.
Stride, Tiger Stance, Flurry of Blows
Slash: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Peldur flies into action, taking the fight straight to the scorpion. While his training isn't formal, the bent knees and uneven weight distribution of his stance is a good foil to the scorpion's dance. The first strike slides off the carapace, but the second lands straight!

Carrufikus |

"Noooo!" Carrufikus cries as his new friend, Peldur, drops from the scorpion attack. Remembering not to panic, the young gnome remembers the words needed for healing. He pulls out a small cube with pips on it and declares, "Reinvigormend!" as he casts Heal upon Peldur.
"May Desna restore your health and bring you good fortune!"

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

REF: 1d2 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 Elena zaps the scorpion. For a moment its carapace reflects a deep amaranthine color in the electric light. It rears, but does not drop. It's primitive mind turning to Noroc as the cause of all its current pain.

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Bibi closes, shouting to Noroc MOVE OVER! Flank it with me!!
she takes a desperate stab.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Peldur Perrindeldarion |

Peldur wakes with a start and then a groan as he feels the scorpions pincers compress around his abdomen.
Stupid, running in like that. Gotta be smarter. Thankfully, my new friends have been able to cover for my thoughtlessness. Let's get out of these claws first.
Peldur sucks in a quick breath then strikes down at the claw holding him, hoping to crack some chiton and get the thing to drop him.
Escape, Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Peldur Perrindeldarion |

The sudden strike from Peldur surprises the scorpion. It drops Peldur, not expecting its unconscious food to bite.
Peldur lands in a low crouch and quickly backs away to catch his breath.
Escape, Tiger Stance, Step

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Bibi's desperate thrust strikes too shallow and she slides off the carapace.
Peldur punches down hard and breaks free! He slides away, but the scorpion doesn't stop. In a frenzy, the scorpion lashes out at all three targets with deadly force:
Right Claw v. Bibi: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

chop: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 5 = 8

Stride, Strike x2.

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Bibi nods to Noroc, and swiftly moves to improve her position, hoping it doesn't expose her to the nasty pincers or tail. Then she stabs with as much precision as she can muster!
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 3) + 4 = 13
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 1) + 4 = 11

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Noroc slides over, and the scorpion is ready! It's stinger lashes out AoO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 and drives into Noroc's trap muscle! DMG: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 and a FORT save His swing is knocked off course, and he fails to connect.

Stride, flurry of blows, stride

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Carrufikus's spell strikes the massive scorpion. Peldur's first blow musses, but the the second is at the base of the neck. He lets fly with a dropping elbow. The head instantly plops at an awkward angle.
The eight-foot-long scorpion crashes, opening a line of sight to a deeply worried Bibi.
Thankfully though, the threat is over.
For killing the pride and glory of the Mudlicker mitflits, each hero earns 80 XP. Bibi, for finally getting in a sneak attack and doing it at the perfect time, earns 1 Hero Point.
