Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Noroc strides in, his face a little greener. With a quick motion from quite a distance, he chops into the mitflit! It screams in pain, but doesn't fall.
The two guards move away from the rickety throne and close to attack.
Noroc's foe stabs him once with his shortsword: ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 MISS
The other closes on Carrufikus and does the same: ATK: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 for DMG: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Round 1:

Peldur Perrindeldarion |

Peldur broadens and lowers his stance, then dashes forward to engage the mitflit that dared to attack Carrufikus. He strikes out with a quick succession of punches.
Flurry: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Peldur drops into the low stance of the tiger, then drives off his heel. With long strides he closes distance and delivers a pair of punches to the occipital notch, cracking the mitflit's neck on the second!

Action 1: Reach Spell
Action 2-3: Electric Arc
Elen whispers an incantation, empowering the arcane sigils that appear before her with each word. She completes her spellcasting with a gesture that sends a bolt of electricity from her finger to the mitflit sandwiched between Peldur and Carrufikus. The magic then arcs to strike Boss Skrawng!
Electric Arc vs Black and Skrawng (DC 17 Basic Reflex): 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Keeping her distance, Elena Bounces more electricity. The air is suffused with the ozone of the arc, and the scent of quickly fried mitflit.
Boss: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Green: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
"STOP IT!" The boss shouts, but his guard simply whimpers.

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Talborel steps up and delivers a killing shot as the arrow pierces the Boss's eye! He falls in a crash as the "throne" goes down with him. Thus endeth the reign of the Mudlickers!
Round 2:

"Nice shot, Talborel!"
Carrufikus takes a sigh of relief as the battle quickly changes. To finish it off, he casts Electric Arc on Green.
Electric Arc: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Basic DC 17 Reflex Save

Noroc Zverokruh |

Noroc moves around, careful to put stone behind him and not a mitflit blade. He then takes his "walking stick" -- Elena called it a horsechopper, which is just an unpleasant moniker -- and tries to drop the last blue meanine.
chop: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
He tries again, hoping the ground doesn't catch the business end this time.
chop: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 5 = 17
slashing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Noroc's second swing catches the final foe in the neck! Carrufikus lets his cantrip fizzle as the ruins of Gauntlight go quiet once more.
For toppling the Boss of the Mudlickers, his attendants, and Bite Bite, each hero earns 120 XP! for a well executed offense, the party earns a singular Hero Point which goes to Alphabetical: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Bibi!
While out of combat, Noroc still needs to make a FORT save v. the blowgun poison.

Elena Solheim |

Elena breathes a sigh of relief. At least until she sees the swear pouring off Noroc. "Poison! Carrufikus, can you help Noroc? Anyone know how to treat poison?"
She studies the dead spider, hoping she recalls something useful from one of the books she read.
Recall Knowledge on the spider. Arcana/Crafting/Occultism/Society +7 | Nature/Religion +4 - with Dubious Knowledge

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Elena pokes over the corpse. It's either a mutant spider, or a species of vermin that looks like a spider.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Elena Solheim |

"Nine bloody Hells. I'm just not sure. But the venom is real," she says, looking worried as she watches Noroc.

Elena Solheim |

Replaying what happened in her mind, Elena rushes forward to check through Skrawng's possessions. "Please, let there be an antidote!"

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

She looks around and.... I need Noroc's FORT save first.
blowgun (9 darts, 1 with a stick paste on it, likely poison. Medicine to ID), mud and bug crown, trident

Noroc Zverokruh |

FORT saves are my favorite (the sequel): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Let's hero point that one -- got to be better, right? RIGHT?!?
FORT saves are my favorite (the sequel): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Carrufikus |

"Poison! Carrufikus, can you help Noroc? Anyone know how to treat poison?"
Wasting no time, the gnome healer rushes over to Noroc to see what he can do to help him with the poison.
"I'm here Noroc. Try not to move. That looks like a nasty bite, but I think if I can counteract that poison, you will start to feel a lot better."
Carrufikus will attempt Treat Poison on Noroc.
Medicine: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Noroc throws the poison off after feeling ill for just a moment. Carrufikus helps him out, concluding that he's suffering from spear frog poison, though Talborel is sure that it's scorpion venom....
After everyone watches Noroc for a few more seconds. It looks like he's okay.
Attention turns to the room at hand, though it doesn't seem like there is anything of value to take. Still, the map could be helpful down below.

Noroc Zverokruh |

Noroc waves Carrufikus away after a short time. No, no, I'm fine, really. he says. A little poked and prodded here and there, but otherwise fine.
This lighthouse is dangerous, he continues. They shouldn't let children on this ride. Guess we'd best finish up here and check out the beacon, and then see what'swhat downstairs.

Carrufikus |

They shouldn't let children on this ride. Guess we'd best finish up here and check out the beacon, and then see what's what downstairs.”
”In my nightmare, the kids were dancing around a Desnus pole and ended up dancing around the lighthouse. I keep hoping that I was imagining that. Well, let’s hope that we can make this place safe when we are done.”
Carrufikus does one last search of the room before moving on.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Carrufikus doesn't find anything else in the room.

Elena Solheim |

"We can move in deeper, but should we tend to the wounded before continuing? I'm embarrassed to say that I earned some scrapes when I lost my footing earlier. Let's make sure we're ready for the next challenge."
Elena looks over what Skrawng had, shaking her head. "I don't see anything of value. Although if someone wore his crown they might be able to convince any other mitflits that they're the new king. Except, well... it's an unpleasant thing."

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Bibi wipes her blade on the closest mitflit she can find before sheathing it. Good fight, good work everyone! And don't expect me to jump in like that too often in the future. I saw how bad that spider was hurt, and thought it was a good gamble to try to bring it down fast so it wouldn't bite anyone else. Could have turned out a LOT different.
She sees the crown Elena is talking about, and holds out her hand. Lemme see? She looks at it carefully.
S, cna you be more specific? Is this essentially a crown made of bugs & held together by mud? DEAD bugs, I presume?
holding it at different angles, she shrugs. You may be right; I'll think about it because I could probably pull off fooling those little dregs-drinkers. Besides, yeah, it'll be unpleasant, but that's what bathing is for!
She hangs the crown on her belt within easy reach before finishing off the searching of the room.

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Bibi looks over the crown. It really is crude, and the spellcasters conclude there's nothing magical about it. It is just a crown made of dead bugs, held together with mud and twine.
She looks over the rest of the room and concludes that there's nothing to take.

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Satisfied they're done here, Bibi takes careful note of the map.
You all ready to move on? Everyone patched up?

Carrufikus |

As his new companions are looking around, Carrufikus treats wounds on himself but really doesn't want to fuss with his own wounds.
Medicine on Self: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 Unable to heal wounds.
Feeling inspired to help others, he goes over to Elena. "Elena, where did you get these wounds? Let me treat them. You should let the others stay up front. It is too dangerous for you to be at risk here. Try and stay in the back with me."
Medicine on Elena: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Feeling inspired to help others, he goes over to Elena. "Elena, where did you get these wounds? Let me treat them. You should let the others stay up front. It is too dangerous for you to be at risk here. Try and stay in the back with me."
Bibi smirks and watch your step!!

Noroc Zverokruh |

Yes, let's all be a bit more careful, Noroc says, with a nod to Tal for his first aid. No telling what else is lurking here, and we don't want any of us to... he pauses, ...be mortally wounded in vain.
The, er, late king talked quite a bit about "downstairs." I suppose we'd best find those steps, hadn't we?
Ready when the party is.

Elena Solheim |

With her wounds tended to, Elena thanks Carrufikus. "I'm embarrassed to say that I got hurt when I fell into that pit. Curiousity got the better of me, made worse by the fact that there are stairs beneath all that rubble. I fear I'll be back for more," she says with a wan smile.
Once it's clear that everyone is ready, she says, "Let's backtrack. There's a door near the secret room we found. I propose we look there next."
When no one objects, Elena leads the group to the door in question. "Every door can be a possible threat thanks to those mitflits. Let's get into the habit of searching for traps and listening for noise at each door. Bibi, if you can do the inspection and Peldur can lead us in then I think we'll be all set."
Moved everyone on the map.

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

The ceiling has collapsed in the southwest corner of this room. The walls bear several shelves, but the books and papers once kept here have rotted to ruin long ago, as have the desk and chair in an alcove to the northeast.

Carrufikus |

Carrufikus creeps in carefully if he sees no obvious threats. He then begins looking around at the shelves to see if anything is salvageable.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Noroc Zverokruh |

Noroc follows Carrufikus, only half interested in what might be found but keeping an eye out for more of the hateful mitflits.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Carrufikus finds a trio of old, but apparently still magical, elixirs. Noroc doesn't find anything new.

Carrufikus |

"Hey, look at this. I found some old elixirs. I think they might still work. I just have to figure out what that is."
Carrufikus tries to figure out the properties of all three elixirs.

Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
"Hmm? This one seems to have a thicker consistency, but this one is a little darker in texture."

Elena Solheim |

"Allow me to assist, Carrufikus. While in Absalom I read a really fascinating manual entitled Strange Liquids and How They're Made. Once I got past the various esoteric beers it describes, there was some interesting tidbits about potions and elixirs."
She'll take whichever elixir the gnome offers, and take some time to study it.
Arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |

Ooooohh!! You think there's a copy of that one in town, Elena? I'd love to check THAT out!

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Carrufikus (with no help from Elena) can determine that two of them are a lesser comprehension elixir and a minor elixir of life, but the third is unknown still.

Carrufikus |

"Okay, my friends. One of these I have no idea what it does, but this one is good for comprehension. Here, Elena, perhaps you can use this."
Carrufikus gives Elena the Lesser Elixir of Comprehension.
"This elixir gives healing! I think I may stow it in case of an emergency."
He stows the Minor Elixir of Life in his bandolier.

Elena Solheim |

With the other time she has, Elena will examine the wolf fang they found earlier. She first whispers a cantrip to read any magical auras from the item and, if there are any, studies those further.

Carrufikus gives Elena the Lesser Elixir of Comprehension
Bibi looks with a tilted head and furrowed brow. I don't get it

Peldur Perrindeldarion |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Ah, I think I can help, Bibi. See, it's an Elixir of COMPREHENSION. You stick your finger in the bottle and lick it. Then you get super relaxed. It compresses your tension.
I found some berries once that I thought would be good for eating. They put some comprehension on my stomach something fierce. Let me tell you, I never at those berries again.

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Elena takes some time to study the wolf fang, and discovers and concludes tha tis a Wolf Fang Talisman

Elena Solheim |

"Oh! Well now, that's interesting," Elena says at her discovery. She takes the talisman and walks over to Peldur. "Hold still please," she says, affixing the talisman to one of the few buttons on his shirt. "This contains some interesting magic that was banned from any wrestling competition in Kalsgard. If you decide to do a leg sweep to trip someone, slap this wolf fang with the flat of you hand first. When you trip them the impact from your move will be enough to leave bruises."

Dungeon Master S - 2e |

Peldur moves up to the northern opening. Shrouded in darkness, he didn't see the door at first. With a listen he hears nothing on the other side. He does however notice something strange. The floor next to the shelves just south of him bear semicircular scrapes.
Peldur: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Elena Solheim |

When Peldur points out his findings Elena leans in to have a look at the scrapes. Her first thought is of the marks they saw in the secret room, and her second is of the possibility of drake. But she studies with a mind open to all options.
