Lazarus assesses the situation to determine the best approach for an attack.
Devise a Stratagem: 1d20 ⇒ 14 Roll is used for subsequent attack roll.
Finding an opening, he moves south, taking a wide berth past his pathfinders, to take a flanking position opposite Seelah. He then swings his blade, slicing through the exposed underbelly just beneath Paravaax's wings.

Griss moves in and whiffs with his swing.
The strike from The Doctor lands. The Gargoyle freezes in mid air and falls to the ground. It returns to it's matte black color as it becomes a solid chunk of lodestone.
The mephit takes one look at the gargoyle and retreats at a expeditious rate and then melding into the a nearby wall.
Out of combat
You realize that the material that the gargoyle is made from is valuable and can be broken down into smaller pieces and carried back. Effectively he is worth 3 treasure bundles.
With the PCs' business at the observatory complete, the journey back to Kihirat is uneventful. By the time the party returns to the village, Calisro Benarry has finally arrived. She is cajoling the captain, Eras the Needle, for damaging “her ship.” Despite her frustration, the repairs are almost complete, and the convoy can continue south to Ekkeshikaar.
With Paravaax no longer lairing in the Oldstar Observatory, the unusual magnetic phenomenon no longer plagues the area. Magnetic compasses function normally again, and explorers can navigate as usual.
If Lumki survives the encounter with Paravaax, she thanks the PCs for ridding the area of the gargoyle scourge by drawing out detailed star charts that are useful throughout the southern half of Garund; these charts are perfect for fulfilling the Horizon Hunters’ goal of reopening trade and travel in the southern half of Garund.

While still in rounds ...
When Paravaax falls to the ground, the Doctor rushes to the paladin to check on her. "I know you can take care of yourself, my dear Seelah, but allow me to assist."
Battle Medicine: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 7) + 3 = 12
Dr. Lazarus sheathes his blade and helps carry pieces of the gargoyle back to Kihirat. Back at the camp, he studies the star charts with great interest. He retrieves a notepad and sketches a copy to deliver to the library back at the University.
Sipping a brandy while the group is saying their goodbyes, the Doctor nods to each pathfinder. "It's been a pleasure accompanying you on this adventure. If you're ever in Osirion, please stop by the University for a drink." He lifts his brandy snifter as if toasting future travels.

With the gargoyle down Natesh looks to his allies for a moment before going to the effort of documenting elements of the structure.
In the remaining time Natesh attempts to learn a few basic phrases in Lumki's tongue, if only to thank her for her help and again for the star charts. In the end he give her and the others in the area a bow.
To the rest of the party Natesh says, "I'm glad at least that I didn't spend any portion of the day bleeding on the ground, but that is less due to my skill and the efforts of the rest of you. I'm grateful for letting me journey with you. Hopefully I will learn from a bit of your own fighting you displayed."

Griss laughs at Natesh's statement. "I know the feeling my friend. You'd think that being the toughest thing around would help keep you upright, but for some reason it never works out that way."

Seelah gives her thanks to the Doctor for his healing, but she can be heard praying to Iomadae as she also casts lay on hands on herself.
"I am gladdened that we were able to destroy this evil plaguing these folk. It is the will of Iomadae that we have come here, and with your help in this task it has been completed"

The bear's rage quietens down almost as soon as the gargoyle is destroyed and rises to its hindlegs, morphing into the form of the tall elf along the way.
"Agree," he exclaims simply, then adds, "It was good."
