Villar nodded his agreement with the plan and waited until the others were ready before signaling Talina to kick open the door. What he saw was a surprise. The pentagram wasn't entirely unexpected, this was a Hellknight citadel at one time after all, that it seemed to be active was however. Then he spotted the man in the center and couldn't figure out for the life of him what the man was even doing in there until he saw the adversary. The ugly little flying bastard died, but another pair appeared in it's place.

Vill felt an up swelling of raw hatred towards the vile little creatures. He may not know much about them but he did know an imp when he saw one. The little bastards used to be everywhere in Kintargo until the revolution succeeded and he knew they were an enemy that should be given no quarter! Quickly Vill moved into the room and got within striking range of one of the imps, pulling his rapier as he went, and studying the movements of his target. He lashed out at what he predicted was the right moment with his blade in an attempt to stab the basard right through his black little heart.

Cicero darts into the room and incants a spell that lifts a broken piece of wood from one of the training dummies and flings it at the southern imp

Villar takes it as a personal task to eliminate the immediate threat. With precise timing, he strikes for a weak point on the imp, but didn't take the devil's anatomy into account. The flexible blade of his rapier bends rather than punctures the imp's skin.
Unfortunately, the damage doesn't go through.

Cicero realizes that the secret door doesn't immediately join up with the other room when he hears combat errupt. He dashes into the room after Villar and magically turns a shard of wood into a weapon. The imp manages to reflexively avoid the blow at the last second.

Seeing that the combat has turned away from their favor, one of the imps mutters a quick chant in a vile-sounding language, which causes it to completely disappear.

I only figure he should recognize them given where he is from. Doesn't mean he knows much about them beyond that.


I figure that Imps are common enough to be recognizable on-site. I mean, they just look Imp-ish. Doesn't mean you know anything about them.

Adds great flavour though.

After landing a well-placed strike Talina pivoted on her left foot and kicked out with her right, connecting with the imps gut. Pushing it back slightly.


Talina rushes into the room and slams one of the imps with her sword so hard that it flying into the back wall, cracking it's head against the stone. It falls to the floor, unmoving.

The unknown man in the room looks at the imp lying on the floor, then turns to Talina, giving her a firm nod of approval. He then turns around and looks for the second Imp.

He points to the area directly in front of Cicero. "Careful!" he calls out. "It's directly in front of you!

The imp is currently Hidden from you all.

Hidden:

While you’re hidden from a creature, that creature knows the space you’re in but can’t tell precisely where you are. You typically become hidden by using Stealth to Hide. When Seeking a creature using only imprecise senses, it remains hidden, rather than observed. A creature you’re hidden from is flat-footed to you, and it must succeed at a DC 11 flat check when targeting you with an attack, spell, or other effect or it fails affect you. Area effects aren’t subject to this flat check.

The man moves forward to help take out the pest.

Futin slips around behind the man and Cicero, allowing them to surround the little creature....or at least where it should be. He casts a sidelong glance at Talina, noting her immediate one shot kill, and shakes his head. Damn...how long has she been training...years?

He shrugs, but eyes the area in between him and Cicero and takes a half-hearted swing. He looks at the man as he does. You're sure it's here?

"Thanks." Cicero calls as he draws his dagger tries to remember any information he can about the pests and then angles a strike in the direction that the man pointed out.

It is a d20 roll, then when I substitute it, because I am using a finesse weapon, I add my intelligence mod (which is same as my dex mod) to hit and a d6 to damage. Or did I read that wrong?

No. You have to roll a flat check, because the target is invisible. This is a separate roll from your attack roll. Just roll a straight d20.

I’ll just re-hash Futin’s results here. Nothing new to report.

Futin:

Cicero can’t recall anything specific about Imps, but he makes an attempt at it, as well. He feels his dagger connect, but the hit doesn’t seem very impactful.

Villar joins the others in surrounding the troublesome creature, making an educated decision as to where to place his weapon. Unfortunately, his information is limited to guesswork, and his weapon hits nothing but air.

The only sense of movement detected from the imp is a series of quick bursts of wind as it flaps it’s wings, and then all is still…. That is, until something slams into Talina’s back, revealing the treacherous imp!

Some of the poison from the imp's tail stinger manages to seep it's way into Talina's blood stream and start to affect her immediately.

Clumsy:
Your movements become clumsy and inexact. Clumsy always includes a value. You take a status penalty equal to the condition value to Dexterity-based checks and DCs, including AC, Reflex saves, ranged attack rolls, and skill checks using Acrobatics, Stealth, and Thievery.

We'll have to do a round-by-round status update on your condition.

Not impressed with being made an infernal pin cushion, Talina retaliates against the imp, causing a gushing head wound on the creature.

Brow Cut:
Normal damage. Crit Effect: The target take 1d4 persistent bleed damage. Until the bleed ends, all creatures are concealed to the target.

The dark-armored knight strides over to the imp with determined purpose, greatsword held in practiced hands. "Your games end here, devil. Make your peace."

Watch out of its - tail!. Futin winces as the creature flies over to attack Talina. These are imps; weak little devils mostly, but their tails are tipped with poison.

Futin looks at the little beast and shouts. Hey! He drops his sickle, quickly dipping into his bandolier for his healer's tools as he rushes to Talina's side.

Futin's spell seems to take hold as the imp visibly winces in pain.

Cicero makes another attempt at the devil with his dagger, but the nimble imp deflects the attack with a buffet of it's wing.

Vill cursed when he missed the invisible imp and felt when it flew away. He didn't have to wait long to find it though as it suddenly appeared after attacking Talina. Noe hesitating or trying to think things through Vill moved rapidly to get around and flank the imp before stabbing out with his rapier.

Villar puts more emphasis on action over intelligence, and doesn't hit the mark, though he puts himself into an advantageous position.

The imp is trying to wipe the blood out of it's eyes, but instead tries to get away. You see some of it's wounds start to heal up as it makes a couple of quick motions, causing it to fade away.

Talina! You get an Attack of Opportunity! So does the newbie.

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Slashing Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Never mind!

The dark-haired knight reacts quickly and cleaves the Imp in two.

Combat is over!

The knight turns to you all, with a mild smile on his face, he says, "Good work, and well met. Who might you all be, and what brings you to this infested place?"

Futin helps Talina to try fighting off the poison running through her system, but it doesn't seem to be helping enough.

@Futin - you can continue to do one Medicine check to help before each Fort save. If anyone else has a way of helping, get it in before he next save. If you want to aid Futin, you require a DC 20 Medicine check.

The knight watches as Futin administers aid to Talina. "The town, you say. That must be this Breachill, yes? I do not know of Warbal. Are they the leader of the town?"

Sorry Villar. Forgot to delete the target. The imp is already dead, and combat is over (other than dealing with Talina's poison status).

After a short amount of time, Talina manages to fight off the effects of the poison. So far as I can tell, the conditions go away almost immediately.

Using a red cloth, the knight wipes down his blade casually. "Heroes! Well now, that is something. And does these heroes have names?"

The man raises his eyebrows, being taken slightly aback, then offers a disarming, charming smile. "You're right, of course. Where are my manners? Armiger Alak Stagram of the Order of the Nail. Formerly of Citadel Altaerein, currently of Citadel Vraid in Varisia." He gives a formal bow. "How nice to meet you in this beautiful and well-kept estate."

Alak seems only mildly surprised by Villar's reaction. "The Torrent, you say? Their order is all but non-existent. What business had you with them?"

I would like to roll a Legal Lore check to see if I'm familiar with what a Stagram is. Or anything about the Order of the Nail.

Talina recalls what she can of the Order of the Nail. The Order concerns itself with quelling "savage" practices and bringing their idea of civilization to the inhabitants of the wild frontier. They are often chasing down bandits that prowl the roads, but some of the more zealous members look at anyone/thing outside of civilization as a potential threat. The fact that this used to be their main headquarters made some sense, being in the middle of the Isgaran wilderness, but why they left is of some debate.

As to 'Stagram', it doesn't ring any bells, though it sounds like his family name.

Armiger Stagram gives another look of surprise, but otherwise only gives Villar a brief, respectful nod.

"I don't want to impose, and we have barely just met," Alak replies to Talina, "but if there are more creatures like these ones who've taken up residence, then numbers may be prudent. That is, so long as you don't mind," he directs the question towards the other heroes.
