Discussion thread for this game--

This will be the thread for OOC discussion; eventually there will be a second campaign for when we split missions and the Discussion thread there will be reserved for only discussion/decisions related to the "Combat Power/Navy" subsystem.

If everyone I have selected can please check in here, I will open game play as well if you can stealth dot in for now.

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

A few notes--

1. I went with 12 characters; I always try to pick 5 and always end up persuaded to go to 6 when I see how many good submissions there are, so of course when I planned to go with a "double" table of 5/5 I got bumped to 6/6

2. Once we get through the introductory part, the storyline will have you guys splitting and going on separate missions- so there will be a whole second campaign screen for this game for the "B" missions- disclaimer- neither table is more/less important for the overall thrust of the game when its split so if you are in the half of the party who gets shunted to the second "campaign" it is NOT intended to be a "kiddie table", and I am hoping things will be fluid enough that when we split out to 6 and 6 it will NOT be the same groups every time, but rebalanced for the specific needs of the mission.

3. I'm going to go through backgrounds more closely now to deconflict and give some information clarifying points, ect and then we will get started later tonight or tomorrow.

4. Since this IS such a massive game, I'm going to work up some guidelines about posts to clarify how I'd like to see things so we can keep it moving; if you miss posting at some point, just jump back in when you return-- I'll typically consider anyone who is away without notice as delaying in combat

I'm excited to go on this journey with you!

Human

Hey Oxnard! Checking in. Thanks for the selection. I’ll get Myrsko’s profile built and the gameplay thread dotted tomorrow. I’ve been excited for this campaign since the vote.

Fellow players: I look forward to playing with and getting to know you!

I will have Biligup all stated up in a profile later tonight, super excited for this!

Thanks for the invite, GM! Very happy to be here with you guys. Curiously waiting for the groups.

@GM: Please feel free to review Zeebu's profile and let me know if there are any pending questions or things you'd like me to change.

Thank you so much! I'm going to start building an Alias for Markus, then I'll dot in.

Hi guys, nice to meet you!

Edit: GM, do feel it would be possible for Oreana to start the game with a Coconut Crab as a dominated pet? I believe these crabs are relatively common in the environment the campaign takes place and with their Will save at +0, it seams feasible for it to have failed to Oreana's DC 13 ability... need a pack mule crab since her Str is not great! I'd also be fine purchasing one if needed (there is an entrance of "crab" for 20gp on Archives of Nethys).

Should I work up a separate alias for his animal companion, or just have it be a part of Heskavar's alias?

Hi guys!

Here is Cordelia's profile :)

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

@Oreana- yes you can start with one of those crabs

@Heskavar- its up to you (and others with companion creatures) if you want to do a separate profile- not necessary, especially if it mostly serves as a mount/combat you can just put a spoiler with the stats on your own profile and roll actions/attacks there

If, on the other hand, as we go along you have companions/familiars that gain the ability to talk and have more "personality" than just being combat aid you can do their own profile if you prefer, but still not required.

Attacks of Opportunity and Opportune Parry & Riposte/ Reactive Abilities
With two swashbucklers important to say how I'd like this ability to go--

If you plan to use a Panache Point to parry/riposte, post it as a spoiler tag at the end of your action like this:

First Melee Attack At Me:
Parry & Riposte:
Parry: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Riposte: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

You can set whatever "condition" you want as long as its clear- the first melee attack, or "if (particular enemy) melee attacks, ect.

Use that same style for other "reactionary" abilities- Swashbuckler's Dodge, Deflect Arrows, or if you are using reach and expecting to draw AOOs- if you have Combat reflexes you can put several in order if you expect you might draw more than 1.

No need if you are not using reach/intentionally trying to get an AOO-- if an enemy does something super stupid and provokes from the guy holding just a long sword I will prompt for the AOO, but for builds that are TRYING to use reactions this will keep things moving and get you your reactions when appropriate.

Basics- "Bold for speech" OOC for short out of combat notes

Init & Perception & Knowledge Checks
I will typically roll Initiative and order everyone when combat is starting.

Perception sometimes I will roll the party's perception when needed to happen quickly, and sometimes I will call for perception or spoiler tag it.

Knowledge Checks will typically be spoiler tagged.

With both Perception, Knowledge Checks, Sense Motive-- if I haven't asked for a roll, but you want your character to specifically focus on looking around, or thinking about a thing, ect- go ahead and make the roll with a note what you're trying to accomplish/looking for ect.

If anyone has any other questions about post conventions let me know- only a few more to check in and I'm going through backgrounds with a fine tooth comb to pull stuff out before we start here, but I'm getting pumped for this game!

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

@Zeebu- for reference, there is a 10 year gap in the history from when Prince Cadmael flees to now when he starts gathering forces, so you can either be 17/18 and the same age as him, or adjust your age if you want to be older than him

Nathaniel and Markus:
You both came to Narport to answer Prince Camdael's call from the Old Empire. Nathaniel booked passage on the same ship that Southern Camino sent to take Markus, so as the two non-navies on the ship you are acquainted with one another for about a month prior to game start.

Male Active Conditions: Human (Aasimar) Monk / Rogue (Acrobat Dedication) 13

Sounds good.

I picked The Old Empire because of it being the "Heart" of the Three. His Deacon teacher would have told him everything about the area he was from (didn't pick that but Southern Camino works).
I can't wait until Nathaniel is told about the Decade Meeting and it's possible potential post for the Warpriest...lol!

@ Markus guess we are shipmates for a month; hope you got some cards?

I took Gnoll for his Linguistic language because he is from the Burned Lands. I plan to take Aquan at 2nd. Not too many native speakers in the desert...lol.

I've got dice.

We can also probably have a rousing discussion on the merits of the gods and religion. Markus is a follower of Nera, the goddess of Earth, plants and farmers. He spends a lot of time reading from a frayed holy text.

Or we could arm-wrestle, Markus is pretty good at that too.

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Myrsko and Lagrin:
Myrsko- the final ship you were on was also the Blue Hellion; after finding the spellbook while deciding where/how to leave, you witnessed Lagrin the Tengu mate being roughed up as he too was making a move to leave the ship.

I adjusted Zeebu to 19. He's still young, but now just slightly older than the Prince. They're practically beer buddies of the same age. "Zeta Zeta Phi Phi" for the win!

Experience

We'll be using medium experience speed, but since I want the entire party to stay together will be pooling all XP from both sides when split.

Since we're doing that, I'm going to skip actually splitting the XP, so advancement for the entire group will look like this:

2nd 24,-000
3rd 60,000
4th 108,000
5th 180,000
6th 276,000
7th 420,000
8th 612,000
9th 900,000
10th 1,260,000
11th 1,860,000
12th 2,640,000
13th 3,780,000
14th 5,340,000
15th 7,620,000
16th 10,680,000
17th 15,600,000
18th 21,600,000
19th 30,600,000
20th 43,200,000

Numbers look daunting, but that's the TOTAL amount- no dividing to individual characters.

I will have the start of the Google Slides Up Tomorrow, and then should post the start then as well.

Slides Are Here

These are also in the folder which the other documents were in.

If everyone can add your token you'd like to use, and fill out the spread sheet on slide 2 and the Dice Rolls for Init and Perception on slide 3 please.

The tokens represent the two separate row boats you will start the first combat in, so split yourselves however you'd like.

Here it is. Based on the alliance of shark-people and humans. And Predator.

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Rules for Getting on the Ship

You have rowboats that are going to launch and you can then theoretically climb from either the rowboat or the water. You have grappling hooks.

DCs
Grappling hook (thrown weapon)- 10 ft increment, AC 5 to catch on the rail

Climbing with the rope is then only DC 5

Climbing without the rope is DC 20

You lose your Dex modifier while climbing, and if you use a grappling hook it can be knocked off

It's a 20 ft climb- so it will take two successful move actions worth of climbing to get to the top

Eventually the Hippogriff's Eye will pass within 20 or less feet and you could then theoretically jump across- but because you're trying to not damage the Eye, ect, this won't be until probably minutes after you could be there in the rowboats.

GM, going off the sheet the only two people trained in Profession Sailor have rolled (I think).

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Ah yes, should have checked that!

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Ok- the first combat is up.

You guys can decide if you are swimming/in a rowboat, how to split the rowboats and where you want to try to pilot those boats, but someone will need to be making Profession (sailor) checks in a boat to steer it, so I know you may need a while deciding how to align yourselves before starting.

I suppose I was envisioning one rowboat going to try to board each ship, but you might want different tactics than that.

Male Active Conditions: Human (Aasimar) Monk / Rogue (Acrobat Dedication) 13

Do I count as my own ally? New territory for me...lol.

War Blessing:
War Mind (minor): At 1st level, you can touch an ally and grant it a tactical advantage for 1 minute. At the start of its turn each round, it can select one of the following bonuses: +10 feet to base land speed, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 insight bonus on attack rolls, or a +1 luck bonus on saving throws. Each bonus selected lasts for 1 round.

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Yes- you can (and most often do) use War Blessing on yourself.

Do we have to use the rowboats?

What about those of us that can swim under their own power?

EDIT

Moot point I think since we arrived but worth thinking about for next time.

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Yes, you can swim- effectively being in the rowboat/swimming it takes the same climb check to get to the top, but those of you with swim speeds can place yourselves anywhere in relation to the ships that you want (and can have grabbed a grappling hook before jumping in to help climb out).

Everyone feel free to reposition yourselves as you want while posting your first two actions here.

Male Active Conditions: Human (Aasimar) Monk / Rogue (Acrobat Dedication) 13

Would boosting my Land Speed +10 (Speed 40) allow for a single Move to Climb the 20'?

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Climb is 1/4 speed so I think whether 30 or 40 ft speed it still takes a second move to get over the top.

Male Active Conditions: Human (Aasimar) Monk / Rogue (Acrobat Dedication) 13

For ease of reference

Accelerated Climb +5 DC for DC 10 with rope. Hmmm...this is going to get messy...lol!
Now, I remember why I usually go with Skill classes...lol.
We are gonna need a catapult!

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

And yes, I looked it up- you can run with a swim speed so even 30 ft swimmers can get to ship's side in 1 round

It looks like it will take Heskavar at least two rounds to reach the ship's deck, due to his 10 foot speed meaning he can climb 5 feet with each move action, even with Accelerated Climbing.

Yes, unfortunately that is correct Heskavar.

You're going to make up for it when we get to the parts underwater, which are absolutely coming.

@Heskavar Nathaniel's War Blessing grants options; one being +10 Land Speed. He will hook you up from now on if you want?

Male N Adaro Hunter (Aquatic Beastmaster) 2 | HP: 18/18 | AC: 17 (10 T; 17 FF) | CMB: +4; CMD: 14 | Fort: +5; Ref: +3; Will: +1 | Init: +0 | Per: +6; SM: +2 | Speed 10ft; Swim 50ft (35ft in armor) | Darkvision (60ft), LL Vision, Keen Scent | Hunter Spells: 1st: 2/3 | Active Conditions: None

@Nathaniel
I wouldn't mind that if the two of them are on the same mission together. However, I don't know just how useful it would be overall, as when he is wearing his armor (the Armored Coat) it would reduce the benefit of the War Blessing. This is because while with a 10 foot speed his armor doesn't reduce his speed, if his speed was increased to 20 feet, it would make his land speed drop back to a 15 foot land speed. As a 15 foot speed is only slightly better than a 10 foot speed, I would say that you wouldn't need to do it if you have other options that are equally good or better.

Speed penalties are from here.

Rethinking my original plan. What’s the distance from the row boat to the deck of the ship, and do the pirates on there have cover?

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

It's 20 ft to the deck; the pirates on the edge are looking over and do not have cover, the pirates further back would or you wouldn't be able to get LOS at all.

The Sun-Touched | Munir's vocal range | LE Gnoll Solar Oracle (Spirit Guide) 2 | HP 15/19 | AC 17 (T 11, FF 16) | F+2, R+1, W+2 (-4 vs cold) | Perception -1, Darkvision 60 | Speed 30 | Remaining: Spells 1st 4/5; Solar Wind 6/6 | Active effects: none.

As far as placement on the deck after climbing up - can we end in any square adjacent to the one the rope passes through, or do we need to end in a square adjacent to the anchor point?

Goblinblood Jade Regent King's Land Seeker's Folly Dwarves

Yes, any unoccupied space at the top.
