With the snake dead, the pool has lost its blue glow, and there appears to be no magic within or around the pool. You do though see the body of a long-dead adventurer in the pool, and beside him, the pommel of some sort of sword or knife.

It will take some digging out.

Elo points into the pool. Looks last the last guy wasn't so lucky. Or... didn't have such nice strategy as all of you. There's some sort of sword or other blade next to the body if you want to dig it out. I'll be over here...

He pulls out one of his signature cigars and lights it.

When Elo points at the pool, Esha stops dead, staring at the spot where he is pointing. Laurel! Sword! We'll get it, Sir Calvus! She drops the head unceremoniously and charges forward toward Calvus.

She will not, however, interfere with him in any way, so if he continues to move up or reach for the object, she will slow down and wait for him to get the item.

"Too big" Laurel tells Esha, twirling his starknives happily, without so much as pausing even a second to cast the object a single glance.

Looking at the others, he manages to turn his whirling blade into a fan of sorts, and uses the motion to blow Elo's smoke out of Calvus' face!

Smiling at the elder kobold with a glint of mischief...

The knife will take about 20 minutes to retrieve, so plenty fo time for a rest for the others.

Anything else you'd like to do?

Laurel is pretty banged up

male kobold (spellscale) wizard (universalist, alchemist) 4 | HP 34 | AC 20* | F+6 R+9 W+9 | Perc +7, darkvision | Stealth +9 | 25’ | spells 2 ☐flaming sphere, ☐invisibility, ☑scorching ray; spells 1 ☐color spray, ☑mage armor, ☐magic missile | drain bonded item [1][2] | advanced alchemy: lesser blight bomb ☑☐☐☐☐☐, minor elixir of life ☑☑ | Active Conditions: mage armor

As his first cigar in a while nears its end, Elo notices Esha's wounds and suddenly jumps to attention. The rest of the cigar stub falls out of his mouth and he unconsciously ignores where it falls (very unusual for him!)

Oh, you got a little banged up there Esha! Let me grab my healers tools and see what we can do...

He sits her down and lays out the kit.

Treat wounds (Medicine), DC15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Let me know if you're setting a different DC, as it's technically GM discretion
Healing (treat wounds success): 2d8 ⇒ (2, 7) = 9

The kobold makes short work of her cuts and bruises, but he thinks he can do better if allowed to continue.

So, you're definitely in a much better spot than before, but if we can afford the rest of the hour I'll have you like new! What does everybody think?

No pressure though, this is just an option we have.

IF everybody agrees to spend the hour:

Treat Wounds wrote:

If you succeed at your check, you can continue treating the target to grant additional healing. If you treat them for a total of 1 hour, double the Hit Points they regain from Treat Wounds.

Reference

So that would boost the healing to 18.

Esha insists on retrieving the knife first, then gratefully accepts Elo's help. She watches in wonder as he tends to her wounds, wincing periodically. WOW. That is so neat! Can you help Laurel too?

Right, no problem, I sure can.

But do make your decisions about whether we take the hour or not for Esha. We don't have to make the same decision for Laurel.

Treat wounds, Laurel (Medicine), DC15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Darn, but thankfully not a crit failure !!

The kobold looks at Laurel's bruises but can't make heads or tails of what will bring the swelling down.

I, um... m'really sorry. These ones are not so easy right now.

Either way, Elo cannot treat wounds on either of these two for an hour.

Elo looks over Laurel's wounds and then at the rest of the group.

Look, I can't make Laurel better right now. What do you all think of falling back and returning here in another day or two?

Elo still has the box they found earlier tucked under his arm.

Calvus, looking exhausted and drained, nods weakly.

"Bedwick", little cousin Hireling to Tao | Driving Lore (**) +10, Fortune-Telling Lore (**) +10, Thievery (**) +10 w/ Pickpocket

Well Laurel would obviously say no - but his Player think's it's a good idea...

In the absence of a comment from Esha (she'd most likely do what Calvus said anyway ;) ) Let's assume you leave the way you came. That's easy enough. How far back do you go? There's a couple of rooms you could set up to defend, or you could go all the way back to the Inn for proper food and rest. If you do that, it's evening by the time you reach the surface level, and the light is starting to fade.

Going to inn is a bit to far. Staying close is better

Elo is tentative about the plan to retreat partially and stay in Hallod's "territory". His one concern is that he has to guard the chest that they recovered while trying to get rest. That aside, if his group is confident that they can take watch shifts and rest sufficiently, then he is more or less agreeable.

CG Human Missionary, Oracle/Blessed One 2 | HP 16/26 | F +5, R +6, W +7 | Spd 25ft. | Perc +5 | Focus 0/3| AC 17 (19)| 1st level spells 3/3 | Resistance 3 (physical damage) | conditions: enfeebled 2

I completely forgot about the curse! I cast two revelation spells I have the effects of the moderate curse.

"You are enfeebled 2, and a –3 penalty to saves and DCs against Grapple, Shove, and other forms of forced movement. You are treated as one size smaller for wind effects. You gain a +2 status bonus against Trip attempts, you only take half as much damage from falls, and you gain the effects of the Powerful Leap and Quick Jump skill feats. You weigh only half as much, and your Bulk, should someone need to carry you, is also half as much."

I replied in the discussion about what Esha would do. But, you are pretty much right - she will do whatever Cavlus thinks is best. Was she able to retrieve the sword/knife? What did she find?

So we have Calvus for "hold up here" and Elo for "Get back to the inn for a good night's sleep." We need a tie break ;)

Esha, after about twenty minutes you pull out a low-grade silver rapier. There are two URLs there :D

The barbarian pulls out the silver plated rapier and looks at it for a moment, then snorts slightly in disgust and lays it on the ground, no longer interested. It dawns on her that the others are discussing where to rest.

She looks back and forth between Elo and Calvus. Ummm...Sir Calvus is our fearless leader! I'm sorry, Elo, but he's been our fearless leader for days now. You should have seen how he navigated us across the farmlands! She looks at Elo, eyes big and noddly slowly to emphasize her point.

It's fine, we can set up watch here. We just need to be careful.

"Ok"

Laurel lies down right where he is, waking for the fourth watch!

The cave floor is not very comfortable. It's also not very warm down here. But it doesn't get cold enough to be a problem. With no natural light, it's hard to tell how time passes too. The night drags on as each of you takes a turn watching the tunnel entrance hoping not to see the form of Hallod appearing out of the dark.

The night does pass undisturbed though, perhaps surprisingly.

Ok, everyone has time to get the rest they need (you've probably spent around 10 hours in this cave now, maybe a bit more). Outside it's mid-morning.

You recover all abilities/spells etc that work per day, or need a rest to recharge. I'm going to rule that you don't get natural healing though, a damp cave isn't conducive to that.

What do you do next?

"Bedwick", little cousin Hireling to Tao | Driving Lore (**) +10, Fortune-Telling Lore (**) +10, Thievery (**) +10 w/ Pickpocket

For his watch, Laurel paces back and forth for hours, as if hoping something will happen, but it doesn't.

Eventually, he wakes everyone up!

"Less Go!" he yells.

"Not so loud Laurel!" says Calvus gently. "If we're going to get Hallod we need the be quiet and stealthy,"

He looks much better, by the way. That odd vibe of being off balance seems to be gone as does his exhaustion.

"Bedwick", little cousin Hireling to Tao | Driving Lore (**) +10, Fortune-Telling Lore (**) +10, Thievery (**) +10 w/ Pickpocket

Two hands react to cover his own mouth, and Laurel tries to "catch" the sound that escaped like as if to "put it back"...

...He obeys dutifully...

Elo gets a look from Esha as if to say, Careful? What's that?
Nonetheless, she helps maintain watch and - once Calvus reminds Laurel - tries to be quiet.

She looks around at the rest of the group with eager anticipation. "Me first?!" She bounces on her toes as she waits for the others to answer.

You move off, quietly into the darkness. The tunnel winds again for 10 minutes before something in the air changes. It smells fresher, with hints of green grass. Another few minutes and the tunnel opens into a cave, and you can see a forest beyond the cave’s mouth. The sun seems to be just rising, and a slight mist hangs in the air outside.

The roots of a large tree block the middle of this entrance, as if the tree had grown into a hillside that has since eroded away. Beyond the tree is a large pond; a path around the water begins to one side beneath a curtain of moss hanging from the tree. The cave itself is piled high with two rows of neatly stacked crates and boxes.

Stood near some of the crates, one hand stifling a yawn, is hallod.

Initiative please. As you were "avoiding notice" you may pick to use stealth or perception.

I don't want to mark out the stuff you've noticed until everyone has seen it. I'm not sure I can be any more specific than I was in the spoiler. I'll fix the Hallod issue, hadn't realised he wasn't visible on the player version.
