Ooh what Mystery?
GM - with one of the new folks stepping down, do we wanna recruit a 5th from those who expressed interest here but were turned away?
I am happy to reach back out to one of them. Let me know!

You seem to be missing your 4 snare crafting formulae Darn, it looks like Herolab's BBcode export left out some stuff (the listed spells are current daily preparations, hence matching slots/day). I've added those to the "extra notes" part so they show up on his profile now.

also I wrote a *bit* more character stuff - what he's going to be like and a little bit of why. Still need to decide where we came from, what might have happened in his past, etc.

Calvus, re-build as an Oracle seems like a cool plan. Go for it.
Elo, thanks, that's great. Now we just have to work out hwo to get you into the story. Are you from out of town and just wandering through, or perhaps one of the Caravan guards offering to help, or a Townsperson?

I definitely don't see him being a caravan "guard." Likely he would be staying in town for an extended time, using it as a place to hide away and study spells. Particularly as small town with a lower cost of living. He could very well be at the same inn where the fight occurred.
I have updated Calvus' profile and included a link to a new character sheet.

Ok, cool. If you're in town, but not of the town, and just in the Inn, that's good with me. You can introduce yourself from any point now. While everyone is around the Inn would be a good time.

Elo can see that this group is strong-willed, but maybe a bit rash. He might need to be convinced that :
1. He could use the opportunity to put his arcane power to work "in the field" OR that there is something intriguing about the case; AND
2. That he could help the party check itself, rather than that they would drag him to his early demise :)
1 person marked this as a favorite.

Haha. Maybe a bit rash. Yep!
He may notice the Esha and Laurel respect Calvus quite a bit and generally defer to him. Esha personally wouldn't think to try to convince him to do anything, but she will give details about the case if asked. She actually has an opinion about what happened, though it may be totally far fetched!

Hello! It's a slow time of year, and I don't want to move things along too much. That said, could someone act for Esha, so we can keep the flow going.
Thanks.
I've updated the Treasure and XP sheet. You're about half way to level 2 which sounds odd after so long, but the first part of this module has a *lot* of stuff that it's good to learn before the rest. The pace should pick up from here on out, and the XP will come at you a lot faster!

Elo will remain a little behind, I suppose, but not too far I figure.
XP wise? Na, it's a party thing, assume you start with what the group had when you came in. I.e. you'll level at the same time.

The Module wrote: To keep things simple, the PCs each take turns attempting to pass each location, in order. On a PC’s turn, they must attempt one of the listed checks for each location or give up the chase. Each success earns the PC 1 point toward catching Phinick, while a critical success awards 2. If a PC fails a check, they suffer the listed drawback (if any). Either way, the PCs move on to the next location.
A PC who accumulates 4 points catches Phinick at that location, and if no PC gains 4 points after attempting checks at all five locations, Phinick escapes. Turns don’t correspond to time; a PC with more points reaches new locations before a PC with fewer points, but once the chase is over, the rest of the PCs catch up.

I was locked out of the forums for awhile. I cleared cookies, but it didn't work until I went in and searched for Paizo specific cookies and cleared those. It took me awhile to find the time to sort it out. Anyway, I am back but too tired to post tonight. I'll get something up tomorrow.

It's not just you. It affected everybody for most of yesterday and then it's been a matter of people realizing how to fully fix the problem (because while Paizo is "back up" they're silently rejecting old cookies). It's quite confusing if, e.g., you just monitor your campaigns tab and assume you're logged in.

Elo Zozakzod wrote: So, not dying, no need for a recovery flat check? Technically dieing 2 as the spear was a crit.
But! We are not in combat, no init etc. You have resources to fix both the dieing, and the resulting wounded conditions in a few ways.
1) Calvus has healed you back to full, so a 10-minute rest now does the trick.
2) You could go home and rest and come back tomorrow.
So I didn't really see the point of forcing the rolls and faffing about.
Long and short of it is you are sorted after a 10-minute rest.

Yes, it took me a bit to realize *I* had to do something and not just wait for Paizo to fix it.
I think I finally have things sorted now. I cannot figure out how to clear Paizo specific cookies on my phone, so I finally tried an incognito tab and that did the trick.
Just been making sure the treasure and XP sheet is up to date.
This module has a distinct dearth of gold! It gets better in the later parts, and you are close to a nice big bundle. But yeah, you've found like, nothing so far.

I am going to be out for a bit due to the death of a family member. Feel free to bot.
Esha will do non-lethal damage to Hallod until he hurts one of her allies, then she will rage and it will become lethal. She may be able to be talked down to non-lethal again, particularly by Calvus. I think that's about it for her, she's pretty straightforward!
My condolences. Take care.

Slightly tweaked the treasure and XP stuff. All updated too.
Link is at the top of each page.

I've been doing a bit of reading, and on the lock thing I made a bit of a Boo Boo.
Core Rulebook, P253 wrote: PICK A LOCK [two-actions] MANIPULATE
Requirements: You have thieves’ tools (page 291).
Opening a lock without a key is very similar to Disabling a Device, but the DC of the check is determined by the complexity and construction of the lock you are attempting to pick (locks and their DCs are found on page 290). Locks of higher qualities might require multiple successes to unlock, since otherwise even an unskilled burglar could easily crack the lock by attempting the check until they rolled a natural 20. If you lack the proper tools, the GM might let you used improvised picks, which are treated as shoddy tools, depending on the specifics of the lock.
Critical Success: You unlock the lock, or you achieve two successes toward opening a complex lock. You leave no trace of your tampering.
Success: You open the lock, or you achieve one success toward opening a complex lock.
Critical Failure: You break your tools. Fixing them requires using Crafting to Repair them or else swapping in replacement picks (costing 3 sp, or 3 gp for infiltrator thieves’ tools).
So, first Booboo is that you should have thieve's tools to make use of the skill. As with healing tools to make use of that skill I'm just going to assume you had them from Character creation if you are trained in the skill.
Second Booboo is that at DC 20, you crit failed 3 times before the final crit success. So in total, you got 4 successes, but you also ruined your tools before the last check...
Not really sure where to go from here with that, other than to say any more picking of locks will have to wait until you are back in town and can replace your picks.
I'm not retconning anything though, you have the info (and gold and XP that goes with it).

So, to be clear, you spend an hour and a half (ish) recovering in this chamber, which puts Esha back to full HP, and everyone recovers their focus spells etc. You have two options, you either continue on as you are after Hallod, or you return to town, rest up, and come back for him fresh.
If that means we don't miss him, then sure, we may as well come back tomorrow.
Also, I might take the Blessed one archetype next level so I'll have lay on hands as a focus spell.

I did put it up as an option and from Esha's more recent post it *sounded* like she didn't accept further treatment? Might need clarification.
