Yep, I'm enjoying Aurumvorak when I can get to him, and Nuk, Jace and Kuntaxl are helping him along...have we lost Tolgy?

Yeah - Tolgy was in 4 of my games and is a no show in all of them. He's now a healbot

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

I should be able to participate again by next week.

No worries Jace; hope everything is okay!

Aurum and Jace, if you could jump into Roll20 when next you're on, that'd be great. I'd rather get everyone setup with the map before proceeding too far ahead.

The bees are obviously swarming about one of the trees, and Kuntaxl's making his way in that direction, so could be bad times.

Kuntaxl, or anyone, if you'd like to try a nature check to figure a way past them, please do.

Ummm...do I need an invitation or something for Roll20?

The invite is in THIS POST on the previous page.

Thanks Kuntaxl; and sorry for the lack of detail.

Hi all!

So first, I’m really, really, really sorry for disappearing. Despite all the things going on, I should have reached out and communicated with you all. I know I probably led some to worry about what had become of me. That was selfish. I didn't reach out to you, and I'm sorry.

Every time I’ve sat down to write and explain where I've been, I just haven’t known what to say...

I'm doing fine. During quarantine, despite having more time at home, I became ill at ease and just couldn't find the fun in many things that I had before. Other things took their place and absorbed my time. As far as play-by-post, I had worked it into being part of my weekly schedule in such a way that the disruption in working from home just completely threw me for a loop. My interest waned. Any effort to return felt forced, and so I’ve stayed away. And the longer I waited, the more permanent my decision seemed. I wasn't ready to step away from my games. Now, I can recognize that my decision is made.

I want to thank you for having me with you on your adventures. It’s really meant so much. Play-by-post has been such a large part of my life, and I’ve had the chance to interact with such phenomenal people that I never would have connected with otherwise. To step away has felt like leaving home.

But I am still not ready to return. I might be ready again, maybe one day soon. If so, I look forward to seeing what you’re all up to. I really do wish you all the very best.

-Wicked

@Tolgy The continuing crisis has impacted us all and caused a lot of reflection on priorities, etc. Regardless of anything else, this is a game and it should be fun. If it feels forced, taking a break is probably the right answer.

No hard feelings here. I do have some concerns, though, as what you describe sounds a lot like symptoms of depression, which is completely understandable and common. Take care of yourself, and make sure you are still getting plenty of sunshine. It is amazing how much that vitamin D affects some people's moods.

When you are feeling better, the community will still be here.

@Team Does anyone recall why we were going to talk to Amora? I am at a loss.

Stay safe and healthy Tolgy!

Amora was the cook. She left in a huff after Bort's death; Delma mentioned that she didn't take kindly to anyone blaming her food for anything...including poisoning, it seems.

Sorry to see you go Tolgy, but I completely understand it. I wish you the best and hope things go well in your life.

Look forward to seeing you around in the future.

If anything, Nuk may be able to figure out what goes into the poison with a craft alchemy check.

So this is a good point at which someone can explain shields to me. I know they changed from the initial printing...

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

You expressed HERE all of the important knowledge about shields.

Your statements there were all correct. Raise Shield and Shield Block. If you understand those two actions, that is all you really need to know about shields AFAIK. ...and just like armor, they slow you if you aren't strong enough.

Yup, that's about it. Important to know when they break and how to repair them as well. Does anyone keep a repair kit on hand?

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

If no players do, surely there must be one person in town that has one. Is there a smithy?

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

Ha. I never looked into how to repair them. I just assumed it required a blacksmith and a forge for a metal shield.

It's actually just untrained crafting and a repair kit:

You spend 10 minutes attempting to fix a damaged item, placing the item on a stable surface and using the repair kit with both hands. The GM sets the DC, but it’s usually about the same DC to Repair a given item as it is to Craft it in the first place. You can’t Repair a destroyed item.

Critical Success You restore 10 Hit Points to the item, plus an additional 10 Hit Points per proficiency rank you have in Crafting (a total of 20 HP if you’re trained, 30 HP if you’re an expert, 40 HP if you’re a master, or 50 HP if you’re legendary).
Success You restore 5 Hit Points to the item, plus an additional 5 per proficiency rank you have in Crafting (for a total of 10 HP if you are trained, 15 HP if you’re an expert, 20 HP if you’re a master, or 25 HP if you’re legendary).
Critical Failure You deal 2d6 damage to the item. Apply the item’s Hardness to this damage

It's safe to assume there's a smith of some sort in town, yes.

DC15 by the way

Check out the Etran's Folly map on Roll20 where I marked some new locations, including the dead willow. Jace, I don't see where you ever joined the invitation; mind hopping in so I can set you up?

Have we slept since the boar decimated everyone? If not, I would still be nearly out of spells.

Don't think so, no

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

Realistically, very bad idea to go into another combat. I'm 50/50 about Jace just refusing to go along. We're in an even more likely place to get TPK'd this time.

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

I hear you, though I am hoping to avoid combat. Maybe it will work, maybe not.

He'd be willing to go -- even though he thinks it's a bad idea -- if he at least is at full strength.

We only have me and the alchemist as sources of healing now. Even if healbot gets used, he is also down quite a few heals after bringing people back from death's door.

Healbot is coming, and I'll try and do a better job at playing him;) He has battle medicine, healer's tools, and due to his divine font, has 2 1st level spells + 2 heals left as far as I've been keeping track

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

I get a heal every 10 minutes as well.

We can always run. The bear will stop to eat the halfling, I'm sure. Afterwards it will be too drunk to care.

LMAO!

And, DMPC...taken care of

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

(shrug) OK, we'll see how it goes then.

Okay, just to make sure - you're figuring on going to get the rosemary to get the horses fixed up, but tackling the Hallod issue tomorrow?

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

Yes, that sounds like the agreement. Nuktik and I want to move forward with the rosemary, Jace wants to hang back but seems willing to allow a quorum to make the decision.

We'll go grab some honeycomb from Amora and do our best to approach the clearing(?) stealthily.

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

Not exactly a quorum -- Aurum wants to sleep too and try this later.
But with 2 "fight the bear at 25% strength" votes and 1 abstention, you do prevail.

Hobgoblin Alchemist 2 HP: 26 (-14) | AC 18 | F: +7, R: +9, W: +4; Fire Resist 1| Perc: +4 | Stealth: +7 | Reagents: 6/6 | 25ft | Active Conditions: None

We could also split the party Jace. ;-)

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

LOL isn't that how the boar won the day ... no we better not.

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

That... and really horrible dice rolls.

I am really hoping that we can avoid combat in this encounter. Worst case, maybe Jace can grab a couple of handfuls of rosemary while some of us distract the animal and then run.

Human (Versatile Heritage) Male Bard 2 (Enigma and Maestro Muse) HP: 23 / 28 (Wounded 1)| AC: 18 (19) | Fort +6, Reflex +6, Will +7 | Bardic Lore +4 | Focus Points: 1/2 | Perception +7 | Speed 25

I like that idea, but I'm positive the bear is faster than us. :(

Hopefully it is Winnie the Pooh and is distracted eating hunny for 20 rounds.

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

You may be right.

If things turn south, I'll lead it off in another direction while the rest of you escape.

Have torn my achilles tendon playing football so a little out of it for the short term/24 hrs dealing with scans/hospitals etc.

@GM - don’t forget Flenser, he might be able to grab rosemary in his mouth?

You dang lazy mutt, be more useful!! *shakes fist*

Sorry to hear about your injury, Aurum. Sounds very painful.

*gives Wolf treats*

Man, that sucks! Sorry to hear about that man, hope you heal quickly!

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

Wait... so the only way to know for sure if an object is magical is to cast Read Aura and study the object for a minute? and Read Aura doesn't even tell you what the item does?

We could be surrounded by dozens of *cough* jars *cough* of healing potions and the only way to figure that out is for someone to spend a minute per item examining every single item in the room?

Hobgoblin Alchemist 2 HP: 26 (-14) | AC 18 | F: +7, R: +9, W: +4; Fire Resist 1| Perc: +4 | Stealth: +7 | Reagents: 6/6 | 25ft | Active Conditions: None

It's actually a little more *fun* than that. To identify what an item does, you have to spend 10 minutes and succeed at the appropriate skill check (Arcana, Occultism, Nature, or Religion).

Identify Magic Items Link

It seems like Read Aura only really tells you what you should be rolling to actually figure out what the thing does.

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

It does actually tell you that the thing is magical, which is "valuable".

I suppose you could use detect magic and then ignore everything in the room except for one item...

Lizardfolk Champion 2 | HP 24/30 (Bleed 1) | AC 19 (21 w/ Shield H5 20/20) | F +7 R +6 W +7 | Perc +5 (Low Light) | Hero: 1 Focus: 1/1 | Conditions: None | Fangs +8 d8+4 Claws +8 d4+4 Staff +8 d6+4/d10+4 Javelin +6 d6+4

I get the "how to identify a known magic item" part. The part I can't understand is "how do you know an item is magic in the first place", especially in a room full of items where any particular item *might* be a magic potion... (like, say, the wagon of a caravan master known to traffic in possibly magical reagents)
