Manuun |
we need to flank them when they pop up again. And normal luck hitting wouldn't hurt either.
Ohrmizd |
No targets even on the map? We're going to be at this for weeks IRL.
I share your frustration but I think that feeling is exactly what the encounter intends lol
Those critters are really weak, notice how we have removed each we have hit. And they are unlikely to kill us with their tiny arrows.
Yet all the encounter revolves about frustrating us with this unluck, and their ability to run below the pews were we cannot AoO because of cover.
I do not think we can corner them. Being able to run below the pews unhindered, we would need at least 4 people to corner a single one. And we have to find him first.
If you look at it from outside, the scene is kind of funny, with us (Ohrmizd basically) running around like a headless chicken xDDDDD
Foxy Quickpaw |
I assume the marble benches are solid to the ground (so you can't lie down and look where they went). When fleeing they always do withdraw actions and go around the benches just like you do.
And I'm hiding them away on the map every other round, as you wouldn't see cat sized creatures that duck away on purpose.
There are always the ones above, that I don't put into the map as position makes no difference for ranged attacks and we don't have 3D.
Ohrmizd |
Oh! I thought it was those kind of banks empty from below.
If that is so, then Soraya, who was in the central aisle should have seen to what row the pugwampi in front of Ohrmizd has run to, isn't it?! She could run into that row and attack, and she could tell Ohrmizd for him to run from the other side of the row and corner the pugwampi. Am I correct now?
We can add a slide for the ones in the rafters if you find it meaningful.
Manuun |
In the android app there is somthing called corrections where you can set transparency
Ohrmizd |
Yes. Select the image you want to modify. Then to the right of the icons menu, just over the ruler, click on "Format Options" a panel will open to the right, there look for "Adjustments" and there is a transparency scroll bar you can modify there.
Names may vary as I am translating from my Spanish version of the webapp.
It is also very useful to mark when a character is invisible, so no one forgets.
Soraya Hezami |
@Ohrmizd: I absolutely do understand the intent of the encounter is to be frustrating rather than particularly dangerous. But remember adventure paths are designed with live tabletop play in mind. Things play differently around a table in person vs PbP. What would be half an evening of frustration becomes days and days of frustration in PbP. It goes from being amusing and different frustrating to just being a slog that take endless rounds and posts to no real purpose.
Given we can't follow them or track them, I don't see how we corner any of them. I'm really not up for a game of whack-a-mole. Soraya will just plant herself at the entranceway and shoot at the ones she can see. If it takes a very long time she'll break out some snacks. Maybe we can work it in shifts. Half the party can stand around shooting at them while the other half sets up a campsite and makes dinner. Tomorrow morning the other half the party can stand around and shoot at them while the rest make breakfast.
Manuun |
@Soraya there is one visuble right now on the balcony. Its just not on the slide because we cannot reach it on foot.
Ohrmizd |
I think I came up with a strategy.
As Ohrmizd brought up in Gameplay, one people in the north aisle, one in the south, and two in the central. You all ready actions to shot at the first one to appear.
As the pugwampis run around the pews to hide in a different row, you can shot your readied arrow, then tell Ohrmizd what pew row they hide at.
Ohrmizd runs around forcing them out of their hiding pew. If they stand, he attacks them. If they run, someone has a shot at them.
What do you think? That can work once we end up all the ones visible at the rafters/balcony, etc.
Manuun |
I think its not worse than just waiting for them to pop up. Actually we can send two people into the isles to speed up the popping out.
But I assume they will pop out and shoot next round so stand ready to go after them.
Ohrmizd |
Bravo! Well teamed up! I think everyone dropped one of those s%+@ a###%&$ critters :)
Definitely one of the most irksome low level encounters I have ever seen.
Congrats to the GM for succeeding at us to hate those pugwampis! I am happy though it has ended now.
Ohrmizd |
'¬¬~ "Ufff" Ohrmizd takes air trying to remember Sarenrae's teachings.
xD
Manuun |
"Please have mercy" Manuun mutters under his breath.
Ohrmizd |
I just designed a mini for Ohrmizd :)
Ohrmizd |
Thanks!
It depends on how long Ohrmizd survives xD
There is little worse than having a miniature for a character that lasted just a couple of levels. It happened me with my first Hero Forge miniature, I had a noble family ranger on Kingmaker and our party was wiped out at the end of book 1. Stag Lord TPK. I basically had to trash the figure and never again have used it.
Manuun |
Cool. Well if its that easy, here is Manuun
Ohrmizd |
Yours is cool too! I want to see how you make use of that whip!
About Gameplay... is the ceiling all made of wood? What others think about burning it down with the pugwampis inside?
Manuun |
@Foxy I would assume to be currently outside of the Aura of misfortune, but I have rolled two dice anyway just to be sure.
@Soraya: I know its not the most exciting fight, so maybe its okay if Foxy or Ohrmizd is just botting you for this one? He cant do anything without a bow anyway. Or we really just burn the whole thing down, thats your call, since its your church.
@Tahlumilali , Lofnaiali: How do you want to proceed?
Soraya Hezami |
@Manuun: Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm very close to opposite day and night to most of you in my time zone. I'm also working lots of overtime because of coronavirus since I work for the state social services.
To be blunt, I'm very tired. So much so I can't really muster the energy to give a damn about what we do. If you want a faster game, I'll certainly drop so you can find someone who can better keep up.
Actually I think it's best if I go ahead and drop now. I know with certainty nothing will change for a minimum of 6 more weeks. I don't need the extra thing to be concerned about and I can use the time saved to better keep up in games I'm more invested in.
Enjoy your game everyone.
Manuun |
I did not ask because I want a faster game but because for all of us this part feels like not much fun. So I tried to find a way to get it over with, without anybody spending two more weeks doing things he or she does not enjoy.
If you think burning part of the church down is a more interesting way forward thats also fine with me.
Soraya Hezami |
I haven't decided to drop the game because you asked about botting Manuun. I'm sorry, I see how my answer could be read that way, but that's not what I meant.
I've played enough PbP to have a good feel for when I'm not a good match for a game. I'm not a good match for this game.
I'd love to advise you all on whether it would work out to burn the balcony area. I tried to find out whether it could be done without wrecking the rest of the building as well. The answer I got on the skill check was "no it won't, but also yes it will". I don't have the time and energy to sit around trying to figure out whether the "no" or the "yes" part is the one that matters. I have other games that demand attention, and limited attention to give.
For those of you who do enjoy this sort of thing, have fun.
Ohrmizd |
It is indeed a pity, but can you elaborate on what you plan to do about the situation Foxy?
Ohrmizd |
Yes, I was trying to clear out if you planned to charm her back, because it was not clear from your answer. It is clear now.
Also, your short and cryptic answer to a major event in the party (a player leaving) left us a bit confused on what to expect going forward. Some reassuring words on the viability of the group with 4 players, or another plan to increase the party numbers was expected. Just something to set some expectations going forward and reduce the emotional distress caused by the sudden uncertainty of one player leaving.
Foxy Quickpaw |
Well. It's a pity, that Soraja started the game expecting to have fun here and was badly disappointed
a) by the annoying fight against the pugwampis
b) by real life being harsh
c) by being the one who gets to write a post and then wait for a day while all others write 10 post while she is asleep
Summed up the game is not worth her limited time as she is not really enjoying it.
@Soraya
Thanks for telling and not simply disappearing
As sad as that is for the player who drops out and for the party left behind, it's to be expected. I've been part of enough games to see players leave. That is one reason, I start with five players, to not immediately have a party that is too small if someone decides it's not or no longer their cup of tea.
If you as a group got the feeling the party already falls short of the needed numbers, tell me and I'll ask the guy who wanted to bring an elemental sorcerer.
Manuun |
Well Losing a charcter is a major events and a oneliner was a bit less than i expected. I agree with Ohrmizd when he says I was unsure what that meant.
I would also be interested on how we are supposed to handle the loss roleplayingwise for now? Is Soraya still around for now?
As for the party needs, now that we lost our numbers advantage I think we should consider a bit more carefully how we plan to develop the characters.
My understanding was the following:
Ohrmizd can be a frontline fighter with some healing.
Tahl covers the rogue skills and can be a secondary fighter.
Lofnaiala has changed her build to be an expert archer, and also seems to have some healing.
As said before, since rogue is well covered in the party I was thinking devloping Manuun from his Sylph Heritage into a bard/sorcerer to provide some magic too.
As far as I see it, the party is still covering ost of the skills apart maybe from a pure damage figther. Therefore I think going forward in the current setup is still a valid option, and if we take on somebody else it should probably somebody with frontline fighting skills.
Ohrmizd |
Soraya was invested into restoring the monastery. It has just a lot of sense she perhaps remains in the back assessing the current state of the monastery while we explore.
Further on, she can remain here to restore the monastery.
Manuun |
@ Foxy: What is the prerequisite for opening the Knowledge Nature Spoiler without any Number attached?
That I am trained in Knowlege Nature? Is my Bardic Knowledge here enough?
Or ist it a standard DC 10?
Manuun |
Manuun
Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Two stirges grab the visitors from behind and insert their proboscis into the neck.
Since I have Touch AC 14 was I missed ? Or was I Flat Footed too?
Ohrmizd |
It all seems the stirges got a free surprise round. I am maybe missing up something, but shouldn't we roll Perception to determine whom in the party is aware of the stirges presence and participate in the surprise round if we beat the Stealth?
Manuun |
How do we get this moving again? Have you contacted Tahli und Lofna?
Manuun |
Fine. Great to have you with us. I Hope you are both well and things get better in the next days.
Well we certainly live in interesting times.
Manuun |
"Ei! Don't break that, it seems something expensive."
Really! Can you please go to youtube and search "Inquisitor chasing Pugwampis through a monastery."
Foxy Quickpaw |
About the vulture.
The basic game mechanic of D&D is to enter a room, kill everything inside and move on. With some added roleplay, which has mostly no mechanics.
Which is a pity. The task to persuade someone using intimidate, bluff or diplomacy swhould have rules. With the skill as your attack, and sense motive as defense and some resolve that has to be worn down to persuade someone. With the option to withdraw the encounter, by closing the door or something.
But with the vulture you only need to get rid of it, if you want to make use of the garden. And even if you wan tto use the garden, the only thing you really need is for it not to attack you. Charm Monster is out of reach for you, but with handle animal and some treats, or whatever you can come up with, there might be an interesting alternative to slaughtering the bird.
Ohrmizd |
If we had a ranger, a druid or perhaps a cleric animal focused in the group, that would be the best option. Certainly I have seen wild empathy used a lot at low levels to do such things.
Vulpture's are usually not aggressive, so I do not know if we have to deal with it. Maybe he is territorial if he has some eggs there and we will have to figure out how to take him away. Perhaps sneak in while he is out for pray and move the eggs somewhere else? That might qualify for cleaning the monastery.
Manuun |
Ohrmizd is only lecturing Manuun on the fact that his slow systematical approach to dungeon clearing is more fitting of an Earth elemental then an Sylph.
Well shame about the map, but I assume alle the hack marks still valid a closer inspection of that statue.
Ohrmizd |
I guess that means Patrickthekid is joining the team...
Well, welcome onboard! :)
Have you thought about your backstory and your reasons to follow the caravan to Kelmarane?
I see your character has some ties to the Pathfinder Society. Ohrmizd has been exploring some ruins in the area before. If you wish our characters could be acquaintances or even good friends. Perhaps we worked before on some exploration of ruins (that is what pathfinder's do, ransacking ancient relics from old ruins, isn't it? :D), or maybe you were a contact in the city to whom we sold relics or we took them for study.
Just some thoughts.
