GM Blake |

Welcome! It is my pleasure to serve as your gamemaster and guide you on a fun and dangerous adventure. Thank you for joining me here!
Please read the following rules as they apply to my games. By completing the mustering questions, you agree to abide by these rules.
1. If you are color blind or have any other issue that will affect your experience with play-by-post play and use of GoogleDocs slides, let me know, publicly or via PM.
2. Bullying of either your fellow players or me, your GM, is not allowed.
3. I expect posts within 24 hours of an actionable post by me. E.g. combat rounds. This is an Online Convention, so there are no weekend exceptions to this rule.
4. Please let me know either in PM or in the Discussion thread if you will have a prolonged absence. And if you have an emergency, please let me know as soon as reasonably possible that 1) you had an emergency that kept you away and 2) that you are (or are not) OK. I actually do worry about my players when they vanish.
5. I no longer bot characters for absent players. After 24 hours of inactivity, the character goes on indefinite delay/non-action.
6. The exception to #4 is if you tell me ahead of time that you will be gone (or as soon as reasonably possible afterwards in the case of emergencies). However, my botting will be bare bones. You may also proactively arrange with another player to bot you during anticipated absences, but they must also agree to it.
7. I perform resource checks (also known as character audits). The details will be posted separately, but you must be prepared to demonstrate proof of ownership of any and all resources that you use for your character at any time (in an online format).
I will post a separate sign-in sheet in the campaign header for your PFS details. In the meantime, please post here, feel free to coordinate any purchases, school item selections, or anything else while waiting for the start of the convention.
Please also "dot-delete" in the Gameplay thread. You accomplish this by make a post, any post (often people just post a '.' thus the term dot) and then delete it. Make sure you click the second delete confirmation found under the post preview. This will register your game to your campaigns tab for easy reference and notify you of new posts.

Showing up...
If you are so inclined, I could use another set of eyes on my character to make sure I've built it correctly, specifically the Skill feats. At the time of this posting I have to redo his gear because I've rebuilt him per the 1st level rebuild rules, so the gear isn't set up.
Also, I'm not entirely clear on how the Boon/Slots things work. He's Horizon Hunters.

Reporting for duty!
I'm taking a minor healing potion as my school item.
I'm sloting 2 boons in my 3 available generic slots:
Effect You Step and then Drop Prone in your new location. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your triggering Reflex save. If this would have been enough to resist the trap’s effects initially, you succeed at the save instead.

Is this your first character in PFS 2e? You gain boons two ways, by either spending fame and obtaining boons according to your faction or gain boons by completing scenarios such as this one.

Hoy! Looking forward to playing.
Boons

Checking in. Hello all.
Schools items: Lesser Antidote, Minor Healing Potion
Boons:
Grand Archive Champion
Touched by the Storm
Cryptid Scholar

![]() |

Hello everyone. Jorgen the Druid with his trusty bear animal companion Ulfen. Can't wait to start.
Nexian Researcher Boon
▫ ▫ ▫ You can check a box next to this boon whenever you attempt a Pathfinder Society Lore check as part of the action required for that check. If you are Untrained in Pathfinder Society Lore, you can add your level to your Intelligence modifier when determining your bonus to this check. If you are at least Trained in Pathfinder Society Lore, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to this check instead. If the check is made in relation to Durvin Gest, Selmius Foster, Gregaro Voth, or Kerinha Napsunar, you do not need to check a box to use this boon.
Experienced Mountaineer Boon
The trek from Isger to Molthune taught you tricks for navigating treacherously steep terrain. While this boon is slotted, you treat mountainous terrain and other steep slopes as difficult terrain, rather than greater difficult terrain.

GM Blake |

There's a new link in the campaign header 'Maps & Things.'
Please fill out the default exploration information.

![]() |

I forgot to mention 1 more boon I will be slotting.
(2 checkboxes) Valais Durant is the leader of the Radiant Oath, in no small part because of her kindness and willingness to share her power with those in need. You may check a box next to this boon and spend an action to use the champion focus spell lay on hands, heightened appropriately to your level. This does not cost a focus point.

GM Blake |

Note to self: Muster sheet complete. Full table. CP 15. 5/6 exploration modes complete.
Note to players: I work in an emergency department. Prior to the pandemic, this would have been a chill period of time. If I disappear for more than a 24 hour period, something bad is happening to someone. If I disappear for more than 5 days, which is shorter than the typical wait period, contact the forum moderators for a replacement GM as that would be extremely aberrant for me.

![]() |

Okay...let me look at my boon activity:
1. I would like to use my rebuild to put all my fame into Vigilant Seal. But, I am not sure that info is out yet.
Im the meantime...
I've got 12 Horizon Hunters, that puts me at Tier 1 for HH
Purchase:
Rugged Mentor (HH) - 2 Fame
Wayfinder - 2
Campion of the Faction (Vigilant Seal) - 4
So boon slotting:
Faction: I will slot the Vigilant Seal boon
Generic: Is there a level bump for any PCs? If so, I'll slot the Rugged Mentor.
Generic: (Item) Wayfinder
slotless:
Nexian Reseacher

@GM - there's also some confusion with this character as he has a GM credit chronicle - Origins of the Open Road. Not sure what to do with the Downtime from that scenario and when/where I should roll it.

GM Blake |

Azu Azan: It depends on how you applied Origins of the Open Road. If you applied it as a level 1 chronicle, then you would have rolled it as a level 1 character and applied it during your level 1-ness. If you held it for level 5, you roll it as level 5 and hold all the effects until you reach level 5.
EDIT: Note, if you applied it at level 1, the gold is 14 gp, not whatever it is for a level 5 that I can't recall off the top of my head at the moment.
EDIT EDIT: No level bumps for PCs. You're still in low tier.

![]() |

@GM - I was referring to the Earned Income. Yes, I applied it at 1st lvl and got 14 gold, but I never computed the Earned Income.
Also, I was hoping you (or anyone) might get a chance and make sure I leveled up correctly. There's a link to my sheet on my profile if needed.

GM Blake |

Honestly, if you have a d20 at home, feel free to roll it on your own at home since your table is long completed. There's a lot that relies on the honor system.
If you feel like you need a witness, feel free to roll it here in the discussion.

![]() |

I'll just roll it here.
Scenario 2 Earned Income (Lore skill @+3) : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
So that looks like a Trained success for lvl 0 - 5cp x 8 = 8sp.
Need to gear up as well.

![]() |

Re-read the boon you're referencing: you only get your level + your Intelligence modifier since you're Untrained in PFS Lore, which amounts to the same value. But you may make the check, Semi-Secret.
Okay, you lost me.
My level is 2 so my bonus is +2. What am I missing?
I'm not big on Semi-secret. Feel free to roll for me.

GM Blake |

I read your original statement as referencing the last clause on the boon, that's all.
To get us all on the same page later on, I double the damage value for critical hits rather than having you roll extra dice.
Some helpful things for your dice rolling when critical hits are not always clear:
{} = []
Deadly weapons:
{dice=B}1d8{/dice} {dice=Deadly}1d6{/dice}
Fatal weapons:
{dice=P}1d4{/dice} {dice=Fatal}1d8{/dice]
Note: For Fatal weapons, if you crit, I will use the highest value of the two dice rolls. E.g. if you rolled a critical with a light pick and rolled 4 on the d4 but a 2 on the d8, I'd use 4 as the damage. Seems cruel to penalize you for the idiosyncrasies of PbP dice rolling.

![]() |

To get us all on the same page later on, I double the damage value for critical hits rather than having you roll extra dice.
Thank you. A lot of players/GMs are overlooking this part of the rules. PF2 has to do it this way because unlike PF1, the player isn't always aware when their hit is a crit, so this speeds things up.
The Fatal dice are problematic for PbP in this regard because the crit changes the original die, adds another and then technically rolls them both instead of doubling.
As an aside, looking at damage for a light pick (wow, 2d8 on a crit). I think I will pick one up for 4sp, if its not too late.

GM Blake |

Feel free.
And the complexity is why I have weapons with the Fatal property roll both dice. If you preview your rolls, you can guess what's *not* a crit to save yourself typing.

GM Blake |

I'll move you to the village tomorrow, but so you're not left wondering: Jorgen's 22 is a success.

GM Blake |

In general, I will roll bulk Perception, bulk Saving Throws, and Initiative. It is helpful for me to roll your won rolls, just place Secret checks in spoilers--most important for when you're doing something where a critical fail will result in misinformation.
EDIT: Oh, I'll roll reactive Saving Throws on the occasion that it's necessary to keep the action moving.

GM Blake |

You can go around them. If you really want to stand on the space they occupy or really want to pass through the space they occupy, then, yes, you need to cut them down or risk getting stuck in the web.

![]() |

Is it possible to move around the web traps without falling into the hole? Azu wants to follow the path of Guntram, as he apparently moved passed the web traps without falling through the floor.

GM Blake |

Yes. The hole is not there. But the floor is rotten and the risk of tripping if you take more than 1 Stride action still exists (Reflex DC 12 to avoid tripping if you take more than 1 Stride action).

![]() |

@GM, @Jorgen - Is there any chance I can convince you to move Jaarl so that Azu can move to that spot? Would Jaarl have enough move in his stride to have flanked with Guntrum. I would have asked earlier, but I am having trouble remember which dwarf is which.

![]() |

Being a companion Jaarl would just move up and attack and not flank. I don't want to move him so he can get 2 attacks next round.

GM Blake |

For future reference, don't roll multiple dice for if-then clauses.
If you have more than one target in range and aren't sure if one will still be around to hit again, just roll each attack and note in an OOC comment the order of preference for targets.

![]() |

if anyone wants/needs, i have Natural Medicine. it's only a +4 (with a possible add'l +2 if there are indeed natural ingredients nearby), i can help heal injured folks

GM Blake |

You said the other buildings are "ramshackle" which suggests they are not lived in. What are the others milling around doing, are they armed?
They are ramshackle. This is not a place a usual person would choose to live. The visible ones were performing random tasks: going to take a potty break, getting something to eat, taking a walk to stretch their legs, that sort of milling about.
Quote:Chops has an unloaded crossbow resting over his shoulder while Azu is--now--resting a drawn sword on his shoulder.
I drew my weapons when he picked up his crossbow. Not before, not after. Also, you didn't say his crossbow was unloaded until now. If you had said it is was "unloaded" I would not have drawn my weapons.
My OOC comment was to describe the current situation as of the post that included my comment, not to argue your actions. If your character finds Chops' actions hostile, that's what your character does. You don't need to explain your character's reasoning to me--maybe to your table mates--but you do need to accept the consequences.

![]() |

I wasn't try to explain my reasoning to the table. You were attempting to a describe a disparity between someone holding an "unloaded" crossbow and someone holding a sword. If you had mentioned that the crossbow was unloaded when you first described him picking it up, there would have been no impetus for Azu to draw his sword. There's a substantive difference between a stranger whose in a gang picking up a loaded crossbow and one that's unloaded. PC's always claim they are carrying around loaded crossbows, so the assumption is its loaded.
Not a big deal, but I'm explaining to you how that detail makes a big difference in how my character acted.

GM Blake |

I feel that I should let you know that even though this is not a Repeatable scenario, it is very much a choose your own adventure style, and your choices (aggregate across everyone reporting this Season) will affect the campaign in the future.

Sounds cool!

...so that you can do whatever you want upon return to Artume without having to kill the Firebrands.[/ooc]
Do the PC's know that they'll need to kill Nalia if they don't extricate themselves now?
