Kunsheng "Qīngwā" Xue |
DC 15 flat check to stop bleeding: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Kunsheng clutches the wound with one hand, forcing his panicked breathing to slow before drawing a dagger with his other hand, stepping up, and slashing at the red thornbush.
Dagger, slashing, incl. IC: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 21
Dagger damage, incl. IC: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

Simon feints with his rapier.
Deception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
He then drops his rapier, and draws his dagger, slashing it across the plant.
Dagger (vs FF if Feint worked): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Slashing: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sneak (if Feint worked): 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
Deerslicer |
I am not going to be near my computer today, so I will go ahead and post my next round now ...
Deerslicer says, "Get it, Gracie!"
Gracie claw attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 w/ flanking
Gracie claw damage 1: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 S
Gracie claw attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 w/ flanking
Gracie claw damage 2: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 S
Ooh, a crit!
Deerslicer uses its other two attacks to swipe with his kukri.
Kukri attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Kukri damage 1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 S
Kukri attack 2: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 4 = 20
Kukri attack 2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 S
Deerslicer grins with delight as he and Gracie prune the hedge.
If it dies before all of these attacks happen, then I'll swap an action to Stride over to the next one (if it's still up).
GM Deneve |
Simon's quick thinking has the pink bush's tendril swerve towards the rapier to parry its point... only for the dagger to arc in viciously as it cuts through most of the tendril! (10 damage)
Red Slashing, Weeping Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Green Vine, Simon: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 11 - 4 = 17
Green Slashing, Weeping Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Pink Vine, Simon: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Pink Slashing, Weeping Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
The red bush surrounded by the party shivers in its place as it spins in place in a circle, tendrils lashing out at everyone in the area, including its fellow bushes! (10 slashing damage to all except Simon and Pink Bush plus persistent bleeding damage 1, 2 for Sinan as its cumulative)
The green bloodlash's tendrils seeks out Sinan weeping wounds. (@Sinan, Reflex Save, please) The tendrils leave the priest's vicinity, lashing out at Simon, yet the young man dodges it easily. (Miss)
With his opponent distracted, the pink bush whips its tendrils at Simon, striking him roundly for perhaps one of the worst wounds the young man has ever had! (Crit. 24 damage plus persistent bleeding 2) Sensing blood, the tendril shoot towards him, seeking to drain him dry! (@Simon, Reflex Save, please)
(Red: Spinning Strike - 3 actions; Green: Blood Siphon - 2 actions, Strike; Pink: Strike, Blood Siphon - 2 actions)

GM Deneve |
On seeing their friends badly hurt, Deerslicer and Gracie tear into the bushes! Gracie makes quick work of the red bush in front of her as Deerslicer step forward towards the green bush that viciously hurt Simon, getting rid of it with his newfound kukri.
(Although Gracie, —go Gracie!— and Deerslicer did massive damage to the bushes regardless of whether or not they managed to drain you, I'll still need those reflex saves from the priestly duo for any damage they might have taken)

Simon Samarian |
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
I'm actually going to use a Hero Point to reroll that. I don't think a 17 is going to make it, and this is a pretty key roll because Simon only has 2 HP left.
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Sinan al-Razima |
Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Sinan closes his eyes as a beam of sunlight finds a path through the canopy of trees above to bathe Simon in its radiance, healing some of Simon's wounds.
With an oath, he draws his blade intending to make kindling.
Cast Heal (2 Action), Draw weapon
Healing (Simon): 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Gamble Eigirsson |
Gamble staggers a bit under the whirling barrage of leaves, vines, and thorns. By the time he recovers his wits, the bear has rendered most of the bushes to mulch. He drops his staff and draws his sword as he advances on the remaining bush.
He slashes at the remaining bush.
Draws Longsword, Stride, Strike
Flat (DC 15): 1d20 ⇒ 19

S, IC: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 = 10
GM Deneve |
The party rallies together to keep each other alive, Sinan, helping out his younger friend by calling on the goddess of flame as he avoids being sucked on by the tendrils. Gamble's cleaves deep, yet the bush is still flaying away, perhaps ready for a suicide final attack!

Minor elixir of life healing: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Simon will slash at the plant twice with his dagger, and then Battle Medicine himself.
Dagger, flanking: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Slashing, sneak: 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (6) = 10

Slashing, sneak: 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (3) = 8
Assurance (Medicine): 2d8 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
GM Deneve |
Kunsheng Flat DC 15: 1d20 ⇒ 8
...and the bloodlash bush topples over on the dry blighted ground as a reinvigorated Simon manages to wrestle with the tendril and cut it off as Gamble's sword keeps it in place.
The wind cools off your sweat as the smell of sweet sickly decay comes through the opening of the old rotted tree to the west.

Deerslicer shakes his head. "Help Gracie first! She just a baby!"
Sinan al-Razima |
Almost forgot my own Treat Wounds
Medicine: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Healed: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 3) = 11
is a crit fail 5 or 10. For the life of me I can't remember today
Sinan stands and moves over to the tree after giving up on bandaging his wounds, despite the tattered state of his surcoat. "And what has the Dawnflower brought us this day?" he says to no one in particular as he enters the cave to inspect the light.
Gamble Eigirsson |
Gamble surveys his companions and says, "Well, we're a bloody mess. I hope we don't attract some fire-breathing bear with horns while we patch ourselves up."
He goes to collect his scattered weapons while the others tend to the various wounds.
Sinan al-Razima |
[ooc]Me. I'm down to 3 and failed my medicine check.[/ooc[
After inspecting the small cave entrance, Sinan sits down to catch his breath for a moment."There's something here. Entrance is small though. Deerslicer, can you take a look?"
Deerslicer |
Deerslicer raises an eyebrow at Sinan, then nods. He leaves Gracie behind to get her wounds treated and moves up, silently, toward the entrance. He isn't going in, just enough to give warning if something comes out while the others are healing up.
I'd also look around for tracks. If I find tracks that look recent, I'd pick the biggest set of tracks and designate that as my new prey. +8 Perception, +7 Stealth, +6 Survival ... Extra +2 Stealth/Perception/Tracking against designated prey, if I identify tracks first.
GM Deneve |
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
You all see Deerslicer head for the dead tree roots. He crouches down to inspect the soil by the entrance.
Deerslicer |
Deerslicer's eyes widen as he looks into the hole. He backs up a bit, so his wounds can be tended to, but keeps a watchful eye on the entrance as best he can. He whispers, "D'ere a weird blue glow in d'at hole."
Kunsheng "Qīngwā" Xue |
Assuming we take ten minutes:
Kunsheng spends some time bandaging up the bear.
Craft (Alchemy)/Chirurgeon Medicine: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Let's use a Hero Point there....
Repeat Craft check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
What did I ever do to the dice module?
Gamble Eigirsson |
"Thank you, Valor," Gamble says as the man applies various poultices and bandages. "You've got skill with herbs equal to some of the witches in the north."
His body bolstered, he puts away his bow and stows his walking staff in preparation of following the goblin into the tunnel. He draws his dagger in case he needs to defend himself in the tight quarters or cut himself free of tangling roots.
Deerslicer |
With the crit fail on Gracie, wouldn't we have to wait an hour to try again? Also, with this many healers, is there someone who could tend to me while Simon's tending to Gracie? Anyway, we'll proceed, assuming that all gets sorted out ...
Deerslicer sheaths his weapons and advances, bow pulled, toward the hole. He peeks down into it, arrow notched and ready to fire.
GM Deneve |
(May I have some rolls for treating Deerslicer and Gracie, please. No more tourniquets, elbows and maiming, please)
Perception Gamble: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Perception Mutant Wolves: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
The narrow tunnel is slick with foul-smelling mud. It leads down into a cramped den lit by a shimmering pool of oily water. The chamber stinks of wet fur and sickness. Next to the pool, between the gnarled and dying tree roots, is the rotting carcass of what must have once been a truly gigantic wolf. Nosing around it is a pair of hairless mutant wolves, their bodies deformed by large pustules and tumors. Although they have no eyes, they clearly detect your presence, for they turn their heads at you and snarl.

(The glowing pool provides the chamber with dim light. Without additional light, unless you have darkvision or low-light vision you treat all creatures here as concealed. Simon's pebble is at the tunnel's curve. Due to the low ceiling in this chamber, everyone except the wolves and Deerslicer/Gracie treat the entire area as difficult terrain. The roots and moss hanging from the ceiling make it so that any creature more than 5 feet away is screened from ranged attacks)
Sinan al-Razima |
Small retcon, in answer to Deerslicer's question
Sinan tends to Deerslicer's wounds before they move in
Medicine: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Healing: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 2) = 10
Gamble Eigirsson |
"They've got the advantage, Deerslicer," he says hurriedly. "Let's draw them back out to the open if we can!"
He scrambles backwards to allow the goblin room to retreat and calls down the tunnel, "We disturbed something with teeth!"
Crawl, Crawl, Crawl
Simon Samarian |
Valor Holysword has Assurance (Medicine)
Simon whispers to Sinan, "We'll talk later." He's about to head down the hole when he hears them coming back up. He'll draw his rapier.
