Can't get echolocation until 7th. However at 6th when I get wildshape if I change into a shark of any kind I function as an 8th level druid and have access to blindsense 30ft. which all sharks have and can flop around in the mist biting people :D
But honestly without a way to negate the mist the ring is just hard to use as the penalties of being in the mist work both ways so it is mostly good defensively to block vision to yourself and others.
There may be a use case for one of us using it and Vexas hanging out in the outer ring so he has concealment and can get sneak attacks.
Malakar_Paradise |
Actually I forgot. Razor now has blindsense. So while the ring doesn't work under water, when/if we find a way for Razor to act on land and if he could wear the ring on his nose or tooth or something he could use it very effectively to lock down a target and bite them.
Technically starting next level using two spells Air Breathing and Fin to Feet I could get Razor on land for up to 5 hours at a time. but that would use ALL of my slots for the day to do once.

And at which level do you get the Sharknado spell? ^^
:P 7th That is when I can cast air walk on myself and razor and we can fly around as sharks eating seagulls.

Apparently it never saved when I updated Malakar to 4th so that isn't right :(
Will get him up to date asap
Edit: Done the perception is +9.
I think we came to the consensus that Malakar would take the ring of prot so I applied it to his stats.
Vexas Flamespark |
Yes, those are correct for Vexas.
GM Mioki |
I have updated the Slides. Slide 1 has you at the bottom of the ramp on floor 1. Vexas is near the panel where he believes he disabled the trap by using the access key. Recognizing similar components, as with the little clockwork spy, he believes he could reconfigure the trap given some time. While certain checks might be involved to reconfigure the trap, it appears that using the key allowed Vexas to easily disable the trap with no skill checks needed.
On the opposite side of the hall are the double entry doors that you used to run through this hallway. There are also east/west doors near the entrance doors that have not been investigated. The reloading crossbows traps came from a hidden panel above these doors.

@GM - would you be willing to offer PFS credit for Part 1?
I am still playing PFS1E, and could apply credit for playing this towards one of my PFS guys.
Brannart Teskerwill |
Never mind about the PFS credit. I was typing up the directions and realized that if you are not already in PFS, it's probably more trouble than it's worth. Quite a few hoops to jump through.
Vexas Flamespark |
I'm not entirely getting the suggestion. He mentions Azlanti again, which Sho tried, but if we get *in* the tank it's going to suddenly change its attitude?
Brannart Teskerwill |
No.
It is possibly under the control of the same thing that controlled Eliza and Rayland.
Therefore, we should not let it out.
Vexas Flamespark |
Yeah, that's what I thought. I guess we're not getting anything else out of this thing.

Yeah, this whole setup has a Lost feel to it. I've heard the Roanoke Colony was an influence on this Adventure Path.
Vexas Flamespark |
Hmm, I should watch Lost one of these days...

Yeah, it was a messy show at times, and it was a show in search of an ending. The ending didn't anger me, but it wasn't a high note for the show for sure.
It's one of those legendary cautionary examples of why series are best done with a specific number of seasons planned and the story arc worked out at from the beginning.

I don't recall, who on the ship would recognize original colonists to potentially identify this body?
Malakar_Paradise |

I don't know that there was someone specific but a lot of the colonists are from Andoran. Also we had a manifest of everyone so eventually we can use process of elimination when/if we do find people.
It is a shame we don't have a party cleric because Speak with dead would be super useful in this. Furthering Malkars argument that it may be wise for the colony to acquire/hire the services of a pharasman. Or maybe we can invest in the current clerics to eventually have that capacity. 5th level according to James Jacob is what he envisions the vast majority of the global populations on Golarion would be.

Happy Easter / Happy Pesach for those that celebrate / recognize these holidays.
You each go on an Egg Hunt and find 1 egg.

Can Fenna bank an extra hero point? This one bumps her up to 4 total. She's only used 1 so far.

I have no issues with Fenna having that many Hero Points. Although, if you find that you really do no use them, you can always burn the Hero Point to reroll. wink, wink
In regard to Peeps, the Just Born factory (company that makes Peeps) is only 10 minutes from my home. I can almost smell the sugary sweetness if there is an easterly wind.

Hello all. I'm going to be in nature and away from computers starting Friday evening (4/29, 5pm, US/Pacific time) until late Sunday 5/1. I should be able to catch up in all games that same evening. As my absence is over the weekend I hope/expect for minimal disruption to my games.
GM Mioki |
I could have foreshadowed this better with a resupply ship coming.
I feel that you all have been shorted treasure for being 4th level.
Let's assume that Ramona has provided a one-time stipend for your assistance with fortifying the colony. Before The Peregrine set sail for home, Ramona asked for a list of items that the Bountiful Venture Company could provide you. These items will arrive with the next supply ship.
Let's say items valued in the 1500 gp range per character.

Now that we have run through Book 1, and I have some experience running a game, I am going to attempt to run a more efficient game. I hope to post more consistently, and, unless there is any opposition, I'll assume that Fenna, Vexas, and Malakar are always Detecting Magic, and I will complete SpellCraft checks for Fenna and Vexas when appropriate.
Sound Good? Anything else I can do to help the game move along?
All feedback is welcome.

Sounds good to me will have to take a look at my build notes and see what is in that range.
I think as a whole group we have been pretty bad at tracking treasure if it wasn't given directly to one of us.

I am not sure if it is helpful or not for you Mioki but at 4th level we should have roughly 6000gp worth of gear per character.
I did a quick tally of my non-mundane gear and came up with this.
4203gp in Gear. This is my ring of prot, my buckler, my cloak of resistance.
1230gp in consumables this includes a number of scrolls which taking a look I can't and won't ever be able to use a hand full of them. My wand of Flaming sphere priced out to the charge.
I didn't include the wand of CLW as I consider that a party resource I am just the one who makes it work. I also didn't include the Saltspray ring as for now and maybe into the future I just can't see a use for it so it may end up being sold for gold or traded so it is in the party bank for the moment.

The WBL mechanic has never been particularly useful in my opinion, because there is a huge difference between items specifically chosen to fit your build and items you just happened to find, and WBL doesn't account for that.
Brannart has a +1 Seaborne Ranseur, which is technically worth 8,310 by itself.
Is it really worth that? It's basically just a +1 Ranseur (2,310) that grants a +2 to Swim checks. Is that +2 to Swim checks worth 6,000 GP? Probably not.
But then you get into this whole minigame of selling and buying items which has almost no precedent in the fantasy literature that forms the inspiration for the game.
My favorite versions of the game did not have GP values for items and did not have magic shops, and had extremely difficult crafting. By and large, you used what you found and that was it. While I know that many gamers today would not play such a system, I have found Automatic Bonus Progression a decent alternative. (Not suggesting it for this game, as it would be one more thing to learn, but it gets rid of most of the shopping minigame.)
Anyway - feedback on the game - you are doing an excellent job. I wouldn't worry too much about the gear.
GM Mioki |
Slight correction, GM - a tome is a book, and a tomb is where someone is buried. We are to consult Durvin Gest's tome, right?
Such a silly error on my part. Yes, tome for sure. I proofread this post several times, and this one escaped me each time. Thanks for the correction.
Vexas Flamespark |
The efficiency changes (e.g. auto-spellcraft) seem reasonable to me.
I'm looking over items and I keep being drawn to the 1000gp ones (e.g., cloak of resistance). For some reason the 1500gp items aren't exciting me.
GM Mioki |
On note of the gem eating elemental this happened while we had the temp GM starting back on page 38 of the game. Maybe it is a desd end but it seems elementals are a part of the nature of the island/s and we will have to make friends with or remove them to aquire the resources available.
I remember this part of the game.
I really like the initiative that Malakar is taking, which can definitely be pursued.
Book 2 is very much a sandbox, and I am just a humble groundskeeper. If you want this to be your next encounter (or a future one), I will set it up. Note, that while it would not be part of the official written adventure, it makes total sense to see this idea through given the mission that Ramona has set forth.
GM Mioki |
@Vexas: 1500 was a suggested cumulative amount. If you like the cloak for 1000, you can always pick other items to equal 500. Potions, scrolls, etc.
I am also loose with the 1500. Slightly over-budget is not an issue.
I might question if Vexas starts wielding a Vorpal Sword or a Staff of Power. :)
@Brannart: I think Carver might be able to assist with the buckler. A few potions too . . . ?
Malakar_Paradise |
So for Malakar a +1 Hide armor (1165gp) 2 scrolls of lesser, restoration(300), and one scroll of longstrider(25) comes to 1495gp. All should be easy to aquire.
Vexas Flamespark |
Actually maybe vexas should just go for some scrolls anyway.
Cloak of Resistance: 1000
Wizard spell scrolls: (are we close to leveling up, or no?)
- 2nd level (150 + 40 for transcribing): 190 (2)
- 1st level (25 + 10 for transcribing): 35 (3)
1495
