Yeah I'm better now. I took a cold shower and laid down and was just out! I didn't wake up till 8 that night, got some dinner then went back to bed. But I felt better when I work up this morning!

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Glad you're doing better. On the plus side, you gain a point of Inspiration for some truly excellent roleplaying and de-escalating what was almost certainly going to be a tough fight.

On the downside, well... you'll find out.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Hi all - work got really busy the last couple of days. I'll get us moving again later today.

Assuming the Wow was for Morwen, thank you! Had things gone poorly Morwne would have actually opened battle with a punch to the bastard's face! XD

Also leveling!
HP: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Hey GM you'll get a kick out of this! This is one of the things that Morwen gets this level... after what you posted to her! XD

To GM:
Natural Watchfulness
Also at 2nd level, whether travelling, exploring or even
resting, you have learned to constantly pay attention to
the sights and sounds of the world about you. When in
the wilderness, your proficiency bonus for Perception is
doubled, if you are proficient in Perception.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Heh. That is appropriate!

That means your Perception should be +6, I think: Proficiency 2 (doubled to 4) and an additional 2 from having Wis 14.

It most definitely was! A battle avoided is the best kind, although Illyria might not necessarily feel the same way ;)

(actually her feelings on lots of things are pretty messy right now)

Harry - pretty sure we have the gift with us that the King wants to give him?

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Well done everyone on surviving the first adventure! I need to re-check the rules on the Fellowship Phase but if you have thoughts on what you want to do, let me know.

Just FYI, you are basically stuck in and around the Easterly Inn for the rest of Winter: it's about to start snowing heavily. On the plus side, it means that Aestid's family can't come looking for her any time soon.

Also, if you have any feedback so far ("I enjoyed X but would prefer not to do Y again") then let me know, both 5e and this LOTR campaign setting are new to me.

Female Dúnedain Wanderer 2 | HP: 2/21| AC 15 | Perception +3 | Initiative +3 | Insight +4 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +4

I don't like spiders! XD

End of feedback!

I have been enjoying myself though! ^_^

Bergur will most likely spend the Fellowship Phase trying to Heal Corruption.

As for feedback, the only thing that's been even remotely awkward for me have been the beginnings of Journey Phases. Not even really in a negative way; I just sometimes have trouble thinking of how to write a post that basically boils down to "Let's start the journey."

I have been really enjoying this game. I think the NPCs have been my favorite part; you do a good job of giving us reasons to care about them. When we were rescuing Belgo from spiders, for example, I wouldn't have hesitated to let Bergur die if it meant rescuing him. I as a player was genuinely invested in getting him back to his daughter, and that's a great thing to experience in a game.

Research Lore exists.

So that's what Harry will be up to!

He will be seeking out a means to explain Ónar's vision of doom - and how it might be averted.

I imagine this will involve a great deal of delving into old secrets that might shed some light on the matter.

Female Dúnedain Wanderer 2 | HP: 2/21| AC 15 | Perception +3 | Initiative +3 | Insight +4 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +4

GM:
So I'm leaning one of two ways on the Fellowship choices. If Morwen doesn't tell the group of the vision she had I don't feel like she can get rid of the shadow points. At least not story wise as that might be something the focuses upon during the winter.

I'm also wondering if doing this would be enough to gain a patron from Dale?

Female Rohirrim Slayer 2 | 25 HP | AC 15 | Perception +4 (Vigilant Senses) | Initiative +2 | Insight +4 | Wis save +2 | Con save +3 | Portrait I Other: Reckless Attack

I would hope not to go through Mirkwood too many times! I haven't had that many oppportunites to fight from horseback - although that' probably because Morwen talked us out of the last fight we were going to have :)

Other than that, really enjoying the game.

For the fellowship phase, I think we should open this inn as a Sanctuary. How many actions do we get this phase? If we only get one, then Open Sanctuary should be it.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Thanks for your positive comments, although I wasn't fishing for compliments.

Concerning Spiders, Morwen I can't guarantee their absence from the rest of the game sadly (for you, anyway)

Concerning Journeys, I agree that getting players to roll the dice is more awkward than at the tabletop. I've started "automating" the process by just rolling all the dice myself and telling you what happens.

Concerning Mirkwood, it's not my intention to make you do that trip very often.

Concerning Fellowship activities, not all activities are possible right now, and the Research Lore activity is unavailable since you are stuck in an inn rather than a library or similar.

Possible activities this Fellowship Phase:

Recovery
Training
Heal Corruption
Open Sanctuary

Since this is a relatively long Fellowship Phase, I will give you each two activities. As Illyria pointed out, one of those should probably be Open Sanctuary.

Female Rohirrim Slayer 2 | 25 HP | AC 15 | Perception +4 (Vigilant Senses) | Initiative +2 | Insight +4 | Wis save +2 | Con save +3 | Portrait I Other: Reckless Attack

Alright, I will take the Open Sanctuary option plus the Training option to add Horse Archer to my exisiting King's Guard virtue.

Harry will undertake Open Sanctuary and attempt an Undertaking: aid Ranulf to recover more swiftly and well.

Male Dwarf o' Erebor Warrior 2 | HP: 24/26 | AC: 17 | Perception +1 | Initiative +1 | Insight +3 | Wis save +1 | Con save +5 | Portrait

Apart from Open Sanctuary not really sure what else - does Recovery phase cleanse you of Temp Shadow points or is it just reserved for permanent ones?

Female Dúnedain Wanderer 2 | HP: 2/21| AC 15 | Perception +3 | Initiative +3 | Insight +4 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +4

I can't get the book to pull up on my phone through Google drive. It just won't load. So maybe training and Open Sanctuary?

So I finally got the bloody thing to load! Training does nothing for me so I guess Open Sanctuary and Heal Corruption.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Sorry for delays in posting, last few days have been a bit crazy at work. I've got 3 of us trying to do the work of 10+ so posting is going to be irregular at best. Thanks for bearing with me.

OK, Illyria - you spent the time training so you get an additional option from your Cultural Virtue.

Morwen/Onar/Bergur - make an Insight check to Heal Corruption.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

I got most of my team back this week at work, so hopefully things will give me more time to post now I have got them re-settled in their old roles. We will see.

BTW, Bergur - I think you still need to level up.

Gah - sorry (again). Been ill. Not Covid-sick, just regular, but bad enough. Back now.

Hope I still have an audience.

Bergur chose a good time to roll well - without that long rest, you'd be facing Beorn tomorrow with Disadvantage on all your rolls.

Yeah if it wasn't for Bergur and Harry giving it a try we'd be in a rather large problem! Morwen already doesn't like this woman and would very much like to slap the s#@~ out of her! XD

Harry is a bit more forgiving. He's trying to see the beorning gatekeeper's point of view, even if it's inconvenient and harsh.

OOC, my opinion of her that she's being wildly unfair.

Writing someone else's character - particularly when that "someone else" is J.R.R. Tolkien - is always a challenge. I hope I have lived up to expectations.

Agreed!

Also, Morwen isn't triggering her ability here. Simply showing them to jewel as a way to say "Yes I am who you say". In other words she isn't denying it!

In case it wasn't clear, yes this is an Audience: someone needs to make a Traditions roll.

My apologies: you deserve much better from me than you've been getting lately. I am still here (I hope you are too) and will get us moving tomorrow, following which I will try to post something most days.

I have hopes for the second half of this year but we'll see how those pan out.
