Ónar's almost done folks - following the beginnings with interest.

Appreciate the patience shown - can't say my headspace is any better after losing my boy, but am adopting his staffy mentality and barreling on through :)

Need to roll for cash: Silver Pennies: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 5, 1, 3, 3, 4, 3, 1) = 26

Will get my gear finalised and give you the heads up he's ready to roll :)

@DM WL: One wee request similar to Illyria's earlier regarding starting weaponry/cultural fit - would it be permissible for Ónar to swap out starting with "a short bow or a great bow with a quiver of 20 arrows" for a dagger and hammer? Feel both these are more in keeping with him as a dwarven warrior.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

@Ónar - glad you are hanging in there!

I would recommend you hang onto your missile weapons as you may find you need them. Tolkien's dwarves willingly used bows as well as axes. But if you want to do that, you can.

Onar - great, I'll bring you in when I can!

@ everyone: the Mirkwood campaign recruitment is up and running, if you want more Tolkien in your RP (and who doesn't?).

Just a heads up gang that myself and my better half are heading over to UAE tomorrow for 3 weeks. My sister in law graciously paid for the ticket to allow us some time to relax, process the loss of our beloved boy and maybe heal a little.

I anticipate that by the weekend (and the weeks to come) I'll have plenty of time to post, but first few days I'll likely be off the grid as we catch up and fall into a routine.

If we can delay Onar's arrival or bot where necessary I'll endeavour to get my head back in the game (literally) come time.

Appreciate the patience and understanding shown by you all.

Cheers

BD/Gary

Shopping - this is probalby our last chance to grab stuff before heading into Mirkwood, so we should think about what we want. DM suggested rope, so we should get at least 1, maybe 2.

I have 4 silver I'm happy to throw into the pot - if anyone thinks there's other stuff we need, let's grab it now.

Male Barding Treasure Hunter 2 | HP: 15/15 | AC 14 | Perception +4 | Initiative +3 | Insight +6 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +1

I think we've got rope covered, actually. On page 154 of the Player's Guide it says "All classes start with one seasonal set of travelling gear of their choice, they will have to purchase other sets as needed."

The 'sets' are as follows (both sets include a week's rations):

"Spring and Summer Travelling Gear includes appropriate garb, backpack, blanket, mess kit, a flask of oil, a pouch, 50’ hempen rope, 5 torches, a waterskin and a whetstone."

Autumn and Winter Travelling Gear includes appropriate garb, backpack, bedroll, hooded lantern, mess kit, a flask of oil, a pouch, 50’ hempen rope, a waterskin, and a whetstone."

My recommendations for purchases would be a Healer’s kit (5s) and possibly a Tinderbox, although I'd want a GM ruling on the price of that one. (It's listed at 120c, which seems too expensive.) Bergur has 5 silver he could contribute to the cause.

Female Rohirrim Slayer 2 | 25 HP | AC 15 | Perception +4 (Vigilant Senses) | Initiative +2 | Insight +4 | Wis save +2 | Con save +3 | Portrait I Other: Reckless Attack

Ooh, well spotted! I'd missed that.

Healer's kit sounds good. Is anyone proficient in it?

Harry can use a herbalism kit, and has one. :)

A spare kit might not go astray and a tinderbox sounds useful.

Male Barding Treasure Hunter 2 | HP: 15/15 | AC 14 | Perception +4 | Initiative +3 | Insight +6 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +1

A healer's kit is a bit different and doesn't require proficiency to use. It only has ten uses, but it allows you to auto-stabilize a dying character instead of needing to make a medicine roll.

Since healing seems like it will be harder to come by in this system, I thought the auto-stabilize might be useful.

Ah right. It would be up to the DM if standard 5e equipment would be allowed. Useful if it is!

Female Rohirrim Slayer 2 | 25 HP | AC 15 | Perception +4 (Vigilant Senses) | Initiative +2 | Insight +4 | Wis save +2 | Con save +3 | Portrait I Other: Reckless Attack

Agree, that could come in really handy!

Scribe of Middle-Earth

I'm willing to allow 5e equipment provided it doesn't clash with any rules on equipment in the Middle-Earth sourcebooks we're using. So Healer's kit is allowed.

The healer's kit is in the Adventurers in Middle Earth Player's Guide (page 153). Unfortunately I can't link directly to the Player's Guide so I took the shortcut of linking to the 5E description. I'll be sure to point out if I ever suggest anything that doesn't come from the Player's Guide.

If everyone tosses in a silver that will cover it, (assuming we handwave Onar contributing despite not technically being with us yet).

If you ask her Morwen will as well.

I'm going to do my post when I get home tonight. I'm thinking it is going to be big...

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Going to give Bergur some more time to post but will move us on later today regardless.

Sorry, I'm not feeling well and don't think I'll be able to get in a post today. Feel free to move us forward and have Bergur be a cheering spectator.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

I'm having a surprisingly tricky time finding posting time the last few days. But still here!

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Bergur - if you decide you want a shot at some Inspiration, feel free to retcon last night's activities into your next post :)

Everyone - assuming you are happy with the proposed route, it is up to Morwen (as Guide) to roll a d12 and get the Journey underway!

Morwen - please will you do a stat-line like the others have done and let me know what your Known Lands will be? Thanks in advance :)

Female Dúnedain Wanderer 2 | HP: 2/21| AC 15 | Perception +3 | Initiative +3 | Insight +4 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +4

There we go!

GM:
So I have been thinking of West Middle Vales and East Middle Vales for some of Morwen's roaming lands. Which would mean she could come into contact with the elves of mirkwood from time to time. Also for Morwen's jewel I was thinking it be a necklace. A Snack wrapped in the infinity symbol on it's side, and at the top of the pendant there is a golden bloom set with an emerald. It would be some what of a take on the ring that Strider has. As it would also be an heirloom of House Isildur.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Mowen - works for me. You get 3+ Wis Known Lands so let me know the others. Jewel pendant sounds good too.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

I would like to keep the posting rate going as much as possible. Momentum is key to PbP games to avoid them stalling. I'm guessing Bergur is still unwell but I hope the rest of you are still around.

Male Barding Treasure Hunter 2 | HP: 15/15 | AC 14 | Perception +4 | Initiative +3 | Insight +6 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +1

Sorry for the delay, I was worse off than I thought and ended up basically bedridden for a couple days. I'm feeling better though and hope to get back into the swing of things.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

No problem! Glad you're feeling better. I'm mainly just checking that everyone else is still around.

Female Rohirrim Slayer 2 | 25 HP | AC 15 | Perception +4 (Vigilant Senses) | Initiative +2 | Insight +4 | Wis save +2 | Con save +3 | Portrait I Other: Reckless Attack

@Harry - thanks for the reminder.

@EVERYONE - I'm still getting to speed with the rules of this system. If your character has a special ability ("I never get lost" or "I can't be surprised" or "I always know what's going on") please remind me frequently as I won't remember it by default. Thanks!

Male Barding Treasure Hunter 2 | HP: 15/15 | AC 14 | Perception +4 | Initiative +3 | Insight +6 | Wis Save +2 | Con Save +1

I'll go ahead and use my Woeful Foresight ability.

Woeful Foresight: Once every Adventuring phase, you may invoke your power of Woeful Foresight. When this happens, the Loremaster should give you a relevant piece of information regarding adverse events likely to occur during your current adventure.

If no such information is available – or the Loremaster prefers not to divulge it – once, before the current Adventuring phase is over, you may choose to automatically succeed at either an attack roll, a saving throw or an ability check (your foresight led to a sudden bout of insight or deeper understanding that helped you at a key moment).

Your foresight manifests in many forms: it can be a hazy vision, a recurring and enigmatic dream, or a cryptic message borne by a talking bird.

Scribe of Middle-Earth

Bergur - and done :)

Regarding the battle map: the bits marked "Impassible" are in fact impassible. They also block line of sight.

The "Rockslide" squares do NOT block line of sight. They are difficult terrain, requiring a DC 10 Athletics check, otherwise you go at half speed in those squares. They are Impassible to horses (sorry Illryia).

Any questions let me know, otherwise have at it!
