Tana Kulenova |

I'm ready! Tana tells Jarprax.
Then Tana lights her own torch and follows Antonio. She is pleased that Jarprax gathered the little Kobolds. She keeps her eyes and ears open, staying alert and ready to assist the others as she expects a fight.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Shaldinari Vec |

When Blacklock announces the door is open, Shaldinari breathes a simple sigh of relief. At last...we can finally find this blasted disc and get out of here.
Moving down the corridor with the others she recognizes the signs that they've crossed the boundary into the Underdark. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it just seemed more....oppressive somehow. The light of the sun, the fresh, open air. They were all simply so far away it may as well never existed.
"Anyone ever been to Mulmaster?" She says casually. Hoping the conversation might distract from the crushing sensation constantly pressing on her chest. "Place is a disaster and pit of horrors. The last time I was there I got hired on by this crazy dwarf....Boltbiter...no...Junksmeller...no...Oh. Boltsmelter, that's it. Little lying rat." She says, then pauses to concentrate on stepping over a section of loose rock. "Anyway, that was the last time I was down in the Underdark. Running from crazy elemental cultists. Ended up helping out some drow of all things, but it was the best we could do and make it back to the surface alive." She frowns and thinks for a moment. "Drow. Cultists. Crazy dwarf-like creatures driven mad by some artifact. I swear, nothing good happens in the Underdark."

![]() |

Okay, to be clear, the door to the Underdark is NOT the way to the throne room. That is a large hallway that leads out of the mines...
You head down the tunnel and it goes from rough hewn to a corridor of supreme craftsmanship. The corridor continues on another 30 feet and it opens into a grand hall.
Stairs rise twenty feet to a solid balcony on the northern wall of the open room before you. A white-haired derro dressed in tattered robes sits upon a stone throne atop the balcony. He clutches a hooked spear while he watches several of his kin with amusement. On the floor, five derro stand in a circle with crossbows pointed at a kobold that dangles upside down from a rope five feet below the thirty-foot-tall ceiling. Several crossbow bolts protrude from the small creature, which appears to be dead.
The kobolds gasp and chatter, looking like they are about to charge into battle!
Before they can, however, the white-haired derro atop the balcony rises from his throne. Cackling with glee, he speaks to his kin in an unfamiliar tongue and begins to cast a spell!
What is your marching order?

Antonio Carvartee |

Antonio is up toward the front row
"That lying sack of waste, He said there will only be three guards and the king." grumbles Antonio
Rushing into the room Antonio drops his torch (and it hopefully doesn't go out) drawing his sword sword while yelling out an old battle cry "For The Light!" And attacks the nearest derro.
Longsword attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Crit Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
My dice like this Module much more than the last one

Tana Kulenova |

Tana turns to Shaldinari and whispers,
I think the dude with the hand me down wardrobe is potentially practicing magic. His tones and manner of speaking sound like a spell is being cast.
Then she adds,
I'll create distraction. Use the distraction to sneak an attack on them!
If Shaldinari sincerely agrees this is a good idea, the following happens, if Shaldinari doesn't sincerely agree this is a good idea, Tana will hold her action.
Hoping the derro haven't reloaded their cross bows, Tana readies her short bow and dashes to the right side of the grand hall and fires one arrow at the poorly attired spell caster.

![]() |

Oh shoot! I thought I changed that! That's what I get for getting distracted... :p Oh well, it's just that much harder! ;)
Okay, Antonio in front. Tana, are you in front, or more to the back?

Tana Kulenova |

Tana would start behind Antonio before whispering to Shaldinari. If Shaldinari sincerely agrees with Tana, here are some rolls:
Short bow/ Damage: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Shaldinari Vec |

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Eldritch Blast Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
EB Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 6 plus 10' Knockback
Following Tana's warning and the obvious threat of the king before her own eyes, Shaldinari steps to the side of the corridor and sends a quick blast of lavender scented doom streaking toward the muttering derro.

Zar Orbmark |

Dex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
doah, couldn't keep up the good rolls. Looks like I'm going last. Too many unknowns to say for sure what I'll do. Assuming the king gets his spell off, I'm thinking a sleep spell at the guards if I can avoid our group. Maybe cast at the kobold?

Jarprax |

Oops - I was going to cast Bless just before entering the room. Shoulda mentioned that earlier, I guess.
Jarprax and Antonio usually form the first row.
Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Although there's no sky to see, Jarprax nonetheless briefly casts his gaze upwards before pointing his warhammer at the dwarves: "HaHA! You poor underground creatures - prepare to face the power of the storm!"
With that, he begins to beat his hammer against his shield, keeping time to his chant:
"HEAVEN IS OPEN
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
TEARS AT MY SKIN
HEAVEN IS OPEN
NOW IT'S MY LOSS
THE KING WILL DIE
AT THE DIVIDED CROSS"
Lightning sparks shower outward with each beat, covering his companions.
Bless
Targets: Jarprax, Antonio, Blacklock
Effect: Add 1d4 to attacks and saves
Duration: 1 min, concentration
Apologies for the bad poetry - that's an actual song :P

![]() |

Okay, I am going to assume that everyone is in previous order with Jarprax and his kobolds with Antonio in front, Shaldinari, Zar, Blacklock, Jiro, and Tana behind. If anyone would like to be in the front line, let me know. You shall see why in a moment...

Map Updated. Throne Room
Tana - 20
Shaldinari - 19
Jarprax - 10

Tana -> Shaldinari -> Antonio -> Blacklock -> Jarprax -> Bad Guys -> Zar -> Jiro (& Kobolds)
Tana shoots forward, drawing the attention of the mad dwarves and looses an arrow, almost taking the 'King's' eye out, as he scrambles out of the way! -6 hp for the Mad King
Shaldinari hurls a bolt of that lavender energy at the Mad King, knocking him up and over the arm of his throne! Mad King takes 6 more damage!
Antonio charges forward, his battlecry echoing through the hall! With a swift stroke, he lops the head off of the closest derro and continues to rest in the face of the next! Derro in the photo-negative are dead.
Jarprax begins chanting and Blacklock, Antonio, and the cleric, himself feel awash with the electric tingle and smell of ozone as comes with the storm...
Blacklock can act, but will not get the effects of bless this turn.

Tana -> Shaldinari -> Antonio -> Blacklock -> Jarprax -> Bad Guys -> Zar -> Jiro (& Kobolds)

Sorry, the stairs would be considered difficult terrain. However, if you have a rope and grapple, I would let you whip it up around the back of the stone throne and swing up to the second level with a DC 15 Acrobatics check. (Using your Cunning Action to Dash) It would land you on the opposite side of the Mad King.
--
EDIT: It does not always have to be move and attack. I am always open to interesting tactics... Grappling a derro and using him as a shield against his crossbow wielding companions... Grapple hook the Mad King's leg and pull him over the edge... etc, etc... The sky is the limit, as long as it makes sense!

Blacklock |
I wanted to try shoving him off, but grapple hook pull down sounds cool. Here is a guessed str ath mods, but let me know if something else/additional required
Blacklock made a fast beat near the north wall, hand on his rapier pommel. The king ignored him for the most part...after all, what...was this filthy little human seriously expecting to melee from way down there?
He drew the grip and once again the 'rapier' seemed to break apart into a ragged metal grappling hook...his off hand reached behind his billowing cloak on a slack rope. He heaved the kit skyward to ensnare the King...

I am going to add 1, because I was going to call for a Dexterity (Athletics) check...
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
The grapple sparks as it hits the stone, eliciting a HAH! from the Mad King, but a quick yank and the hook catches the dwarf's boot, pulling him over the edge!
2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
The derro savant looks up from his back at the thief, now looming above him, gasping for the air that has been forced from his lungs!
Mad King -17 hp and prone!
The derro king gasps ,sputters, and snarls, completing a spell while still on his back, and an arc of lightning flashes out at Blacklock!
Blacklock, make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw! You have unwittingly spared the rest of the party a lightning bolt! Damage 28 hp if you fail, 14 if you succeed.
The remaining mad dwarves move forward and begin firing their crossbows! The one on Antonio uses his crossbow like a pick!
Derro (Green) @ Antonio: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
But the little crazy dwarf can't get past Antonio's armor!
Derro (Red) @ Antonio: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

I am preparing this in advance as we wait Jiro another others to complete their turns.

Zar Orbmark |

Chuckling a little at seeing the king get pulled off his throne, Zar's eyes get big seeing the streak of lighting shoot right through Blacklock as the rogue crumples to the ground. "Have to keep him from any more of that," he thinks to himself as he tries to put as many of the dwarves to sleep as he can. Cast sleep targeting king. Red and green should be in range.

Blacklock |
Dex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Blacklock rolls back quickly but still takes a terrible blast from the electric arc...at the last second he plunges a dagger into the wall and the arc grounds itself, narrowly missing his heart as it discharges. His magical chameleon cloak suddenly glows a flashing white nearly as bright as the bolt itself before burning out to black...the dumb rogue himself falling to the floor knocked wholly unconscious.
0 hp :) That was pretty idiotic to rush forward in retrospect...not playing Scram anymore lol

Jarprax |

I was going to remind Blacklock to add the Bless spell to his save, but it looks like he didn't need it!

![]() |

The Mad King screams in triumph and leaps to his feet! This was only going to happen only if Blacklock dropped, because he was going to cast something else if the rogue was left standing. I didn't realize that Blacklock had such a low Constitution! Mad King is not prone.
Just as he does so, Zar's spell takes hold, you see the Mad King's eyelids drooping, but he shakes his head a screams out, babbling incoherently!
Almost in response, the two dwarves nearest him drop to the ground, snoring loudly...
Will adjudicate the remaining kobolds on Monday... and give Jiro a chance to go. Have a nice weekend, all!

Jiro the Unwilling |

Jiro rushes in and mutters various curses under his breath and gesturing menacingly and the derro.
"Antonio and Blackl- oh. Uh... and Tana, you are both incredible and are going to save all our lives and defeat these nasty dwarves. Now go! Go! Go!" As he says this, Jiro's deepens and gains a regal bearing, and his body begins to glow with a faint resplendence that makes him sound and look magnificent... for only a brief moment before returning to a meek little kobold.
Moves to hopefully get within 30 ft of the Mad King as well as Pink & Blue, but primarily going for the Mad King, then casts Bane. Charisma save DC 12, if fail then -1d4 from all attacks and saving throws.
Then bonus action to use Mantle of Inspiration on Antonio and Tana. Grants them 5 temp hit points, and (if they want) they can take a reaction right now to move up to their speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
And, sorry, everyone. I was at a conference this week and thought I would have free time in the evenings to stay on top of this, but was very wrong. I'm on top of it now.

Tana Kulenova |

If it's possible, Tana will take her arrow shot that I described in advance the other day, and then she would like to use Jiro's Mantel of inspiration to use her full movement if required to back up Antonio for a Meelee attack on the dwarf king. And she will accept the temporary 5 hp.
Thank you, Jiro! Let's get him, Antonio!

Well, I was going to use Guiding Bolt, but I see something more fun to do :)
Still chanting, Jarprax noisily rushes up to the strange dwarf 'king', snorts derisively in his face, and spins quickly about, spitting lightning.
Positioning himself between the king and the red derro, Jarprax's lightning bolt stretches 30', which hits both red and blue. Using Channel Divinity to invoke max damage.

Jiro fumbles around inside his vest, pulling out a holy symbol on a chain, rejecting it, pulling out another, mumbling to himself, "Come on, come on - we need this king to die already! Ah, here we are! This looks like a good death one!" He holds up a rusted chain and dangling beneath it is an even rustier iron disk - that bears a skull face encircled by dark droplets.
"Uh... what was his name... the death guy... uh... Kelly... no... uh... oh yeah, Kill-Em-More! Kill-Em-More, I call upon you to smite this Mad King until he's smote to death!" Then with a flourish, the kobold waves his hands together with his fingers splayed out, and a mass of daggers appears where the Mad King stands. They flash back and forth following the motions of Jiro's hands.

Jiro the Unwilling |

Wow! No save? Cool!
I had to double check, too! It's no save and no roll to hit, but it's on that spot and can't move. So even though it can go for up to a minute, if he steps out, that's it. If he had an ally there to pull/push him out of it before his turn, he wouldn't get affected at all. So it's certainly really nice in a lot of situations, but in other situations, it's easy to bypass, I guess. Looked like fun, either way. :)

Glancing at the king being swarmed by daggers and then back to her fallen companions she curses softly and rushes over to Antonio. Kneeling down next to the big warrior, she quickly pops the cork on a healing potion and forces the elixir down his throat.
