...perhaps Sammad can Withdraw instead of tumble...although I’m not sure how that interacts with the chase rules.
Marisol Welkin |
Cellion, before I do something really crazy and dumb, I want to double check it with you first.
A vertical jump is an Athletics check with a DC equal to 4 times the distance you're trying to go. I have an augmentation that reduces gravity for me by 1 step for 2 rounds (so, low gravity). In low gravity, you can jump 3 times as high as normal gravity.
How this reads to me is that ordinarily, jumping 4 feet would be a DC 16 Athletics check, but the same DC in low-g should get me 12 feet of air instead. This more or less means in low-g the distance jumped is 3/4 of the DC (or you take the distance you want to jump and increase it by a third).
If that makes sense to you and you agree, my next question: how tall are the buildings on this street? :P
For your convenience: Athletics and Environmental Rules.
GM Cellion |
Those jumping rules sound right to me.
Not sure exactly what you're planning, but keep in mind: You guys are deep inside Corona. There's a ceiling up above the street for the next level of street, and the buildings rise up to the ceiling. We can say there's maybe two stories worth of building before you hit another layer of street. If you're looking to jump up to something, there's probably balconies or ledges available at the 2nd floor level - maybe 10 ft up.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Nurleth was one of those fights we were victory was surviving rather than beating her, wasn't it?
Ordyt |
Hmm...an efreeti-backed destabilization op based out of an outpost hidden deeper inside the sun...intriguing!
Ordyt's gonna take another level of Mystic, which means we now have access to 2nd level Mystic spells! I had a long day of training today so I probably won't get this completed until tomorrow.
@GM I can't find a formal item, but could I just add a weapon sling to the grenade launcher? It wouldn't replace the Quick Draw feat but I envision it letting the grenade launcher stay with me when I switch it out. Does that work?
Marisol Welkin |
I'm going to be honest, I've been playing as if I had a sling anyway because otherwise I have no idea how we're carrying all these guns.
And woo! Level 5! I've got my skills and such ready to go, though I'm not sure what feat to take. Amplified Glitch was such a great ability to get that everything else seems to pale in comparison, lol.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
You thinking of the Tactical Scaffold, Ordyt? It's an armor upgrade that sounds like what you're looking for, but unfortunately we're ONE level too low to buy it...
Captain Flint Conners |
The recent battles and near-death experiences have hardened Flint like the stone of his namesake. At level 5, he is picking up the Toughness feat and +2 Constitution to reflect this. Other ability bonuses chosen are +2 Strength, Dexterity, and Charisma.
We are going to need improved equipment to take on these new challenges. Are we going to get paid for the last mission/be able to requisition some upgraded gear for the upcoming mission?
GM Cellion |

Sounds good. I kinda assume that all these gigantic heavy weapons must come in some kind of slings or magnetic back slots, or something in any case.
You'd definitely be able to buy a tactical scaffold (remember, you typically purchase stuff of your level +1) though it might be a bit expensive and it has a bunch of benefits that you probably don't want to pay a premium for.
---
@Flint: You'll be getting 2000 credits each from the DCI for your role in uncovering all this stuff (even if you didn't get the data back).
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
May take some time to finish my level up. My stay-cation just ended and I'm back to work. Just a question: since I didn't get Magic Hack at 2nd level due to my archetype and am just getting access to it now, may I select from the 5th level options or am I limited to the 2nd level ones?
GM Cellion |
You can pick 5th level options for sure Bel.
Marisol Welkin |
Leveled up!
Put my boosts into Dex, Con, Int, and Wis. Put 1 point each into Acrobatics, Athletics, Computers, Engineering, Medicine, Perception, and Piloting. 2 ranks into Life Science. I also switched my Skill Focus from Computers to Perception.
For my feat, I took Improved Initiative. I like going first!
GM Cellion |
No worries Sammad, we won't need your updated stats immediately.
@Everyone: Go ahead and drop any last questions, comments and RP you have in this scene. Assuming there aren't any conversations to resolve, I'll be wrapping up the scene tomorrow and we'll be heading into a small time skip as the DCI works on repairing (really, understanding so it can be re-engineered) the Breath of Embers.
Sammad Al-Fayir |
Leveled up Sammad: ability increases to Cha, Int, Wis, and Con. He gets a new skill expertise, which I've put into Bluff, and his expertise die is now 1d6+1. New feat is Ambush Awareness, and I've ranked up all his old skills and put a rank into Perception: if he can't go first, he's definitely not getting caught off guard.
Still need to pick gear for him. Looking to prioritize survivability and subterfuge over direct combat prowess, that'll probably get done by tomorrow morning.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
I'm ALMOST done with Belmarniss' level-up. I'll finish the rest and post her actions tomorrow after work.
Sammad Al-Fayir |
Looking to get a mk I improvisation adornment for Sammad. GM, is that OK?
GM Cellion |
Yep, A-OK.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Finished the work of levelling up, but now I gotta go to bed. I'll have time to make an actual post tomorrow afternoon. I'm sorry it's going so slow, but this being my first week back at work after a near 2-week vacation means some adjusting.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
WHEW, finally got that post done.
Now to figure out what I'm gonna buy with that money...that'd be the RESPONSIBLE thing to do anyway, rather than make charitable donations to the owner of Black Glass Sevens for the damages and to the families of Nurleth's victims...while great roleplaying, it'd obviously hamper us in the long run.

If it helps any, here are some items Flint is considering:
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Ooh Celestial Stole! My Solarian in Cellion's Dead Suns game has one of those! He and Flint would probably get along famously!
Marisol Welkin |
I've got 2300 credits and an Advanced Medkit is 2700. Anyone want to spot me? Benefit of the Advanced one is that the DC to heal you guys is 20 instead of 25, but if I hit 25 anyway I can add my Intelligence modifier (currently +5) to the amount healed.
Also, Bel: Wow! What a post!
Ordyt |
Ordyt will spot you the 400cr, Marisol.
He's considering either a) one [1] fancy grenade or b) something that gives him fire resistance. Any thoughts?

See Infernowear in Flint’s earlier post (or the Celestial Stole).
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
*GASP!*
That armor is awesome! Thanks, Cellion! Should I deduct that from my reward from the Dawn Patrol?
GM Cellion |
Nope. No need to deduct the price, since its already been accounted for.
Captain Flint Conners |
Flint is updated and ready to go, with a new character sheet uploaded (accessible thorough his profile).
Flint purchased 5 more Mk 1 healing serums, so he now has a total of 10. Other than that, he is saving his credits for now.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Anyone got any spare creds? I've got my eye on a Targeting Computer, allowing me to fight in melee while using the fog cloud spell, and I've got juuuuuuust nearly enough credits at 2,155 from the Dawn Patrol's reward, the spare credits I've got on hand and selling my Basic Iridshell, so I'm just about 95 creds short.

Flint can spot you 100 credits...but you should probably keep your armor--it is a dangerous world out there.
Marisol Welkin |
i have 10 credits after selling my medkit
Ordyt |
But Flint, her new armor is better...
Ordyt can spot you the credits too, he's just going to hold on to his 1,600cr (or 1,500 after loaning to Bel) and buy something nice later.
Dibs on the first nice set of heavy armor we come across, though!
Captain Flint Conners |
But Flint, her new armor is better...
Well, yes, We know OOC something about armor that makes Belmarniss gasp, so fair enough since this is the OOC side of the discussion.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
I appreciate it, everyone! Thanks!
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Crap. Why is it RIGHT when I've updated Belmarniss' look one way I find another picture that inspires me a different way?!
GM Cellion |
Whee! Lucky for Ordyt, you guys are made of stern enough stuff that you can't be knocked back as far as random civilians can :)

I'm over here cackling to myself about how you would go about checking if an ambulatory palm tree is still alive.
"Is it breathing?"
"It's a tree."
"Oh, uh, check for a pulse?"
"IT'S A TREE!!

Compiled information on "Lu"
Identity: Lurian Straza, female human siccatite specialist in the DCI until a few months ago when she was fired by Dr. Nokorokt for pawning a telescope.
Personality: “Lazy Slug”, “Lu's brilliant, but she had a really bad attitude and a knack for filching stuff to fund her addiction to those money sucking vidgames.” “very hostile to other people's opinions, who spends very freely, and who prioritizes personal freedom and personal expression.” obsession with games with cute characters that can be collected.
Outgoing Message: >>> HEEEY~ Its Lu. If you're hearing this, I'm a doof who let her comm run out of juice AGAIN laaawwl! If you need me, you can bet your ass I'm binging at the Vestrani while the creds are still rolling hot. Come say hi! And gimme a whap for forgetting to charge the comm, laaawl! <<<
Social Media: “She's involved in many many communities where she provides harshly opinionated chatter about games, science, politics and music. Her activity is so prolific that you get the sense that she spends most of her day on the Infosphere. This activity slows massively about a month ago just after she makes a post about a sweet introductory deal at the Vestrani Gaming Complex. And a week after that, she goes completely silent.”
Vestrani: Pahoric -- "Strange. Well, I'm afraid there's no one currently registered under that name in any of our rooms. Are you sure your work colleague is still here?" Looking at the line of people behind you, Pahoric suggests "If they were here and then left afterward, maybe some of our regulars would have met them. Or our staff."
Rumors suggest that in addition to their above-board operations with the Complex, the Vestrani family is either part of, or controls, a larger more criminal organization that has influence beyond Verdeon. While the Complex is publicly their primary business, most rumors suggest that they have other, more sordid dealings.
Location: Vestrani Gaming Complex's public facing pages where Lurian was actively posting confirms that she was at the Gaming Complex three weeks ago, with no public posts since.
"She was the one showing off a few weeks back. She had an Etapoof Prime from that event a few years back." The first one rolls her eyes "Oh, she was obnoxious. When you'd trade with her she'd 'accidentally' put the Eta up first, just bragging really, then switch to what you really wanted." The second lowers her voice "And you remember when she tried to scam that little boy out of his Scorpitrix? Good thing there were plenty of other Puffheads around to get her to knock it off."

Great summary Flint!
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Ordyt, you don't need to give me money for the buffet. Belmarniss is an adult, she can pay her own way (just deduct 50 credits from my share of the loot).
Cellion, the prices here are OBSCENE!
Marisol Welkin |
Well, I'm stumped. Everything seems like a dead end to me.
Captain Flint Conners |
Well, Mari, you and/or Belmarniss could try and find a secluded terminal and do a more detailed search into their systems for Lu's room, but we might need to run a distraction or something similar to give you guys cover.
We could try sneaking up that food delivery elevator Bel found (not that I think she has shared that tidbit with the rest of us yet) if the technological approach fails us.
Or Flint could go all "angry face" on Pahoric and cause a scene, making a major distraction at the cost of probably getting thrown out himself.
GM Cellion |
Yep, I've seen a lot of ideas in gameplay (including those Flint is mentioning) that you guys haven't yet tried. Give things a go!
Ordyt |

Combination of Doors #1 and #2 might be in the cards. A little bit of hacking to spoof cameras and confirm a room number, then up the elevator and a rush to get in, grab Lu, and get out?
It'll make an enemy of the totally-not-space-mafia people running this casino but, hey, adventure! :)
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Kicking nyself for not thinking about whether the IRD boxes would have some way of showing which goes to which room sooner! I've taken enough orders at work for takeout since the pandemic started that that would have been an obvious solution...unless they just pack the same thing into each box and just go down the hall, but that doesnt sound very VIP.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
Where would I better serve, as part of Flint and Sammad's distraction or going with Ordyt and Marisol? I'm not very sneaky...
Captain Flint Conners |
I figured you were already at the buffet, Bel, so Flint expected you to go that way, but you are free to do whatever...If Sammad and Flint are good enough at distracting, it might give you enough cover.
Star-Knight Belmarniss Rycast |
I HOPE I'm able to get away with that without needing to roll a Stealth check, I have a feeling this is gonna come crashing down on us.
Captain Flint Conners |
Eh, who knows. We have to try SOMETHING, and Flint is getting to act like a petulant schoolboy in the body of a flaming jedi, so it could be worse...
