7 Hamish/Seaward (Hamish Damage: 25)
Damages updated, no other changes need made. For the record, Omrax gave him the free full attack, not the wind. :P
Grandmaster TOZ |
Like when he got blown into the Gull’s full attack and had to defensively heal?
Rokgurn |
Less whinging and more killing. :) Seriously considering that the Heal was 16th level I am happy not to see him cast Finger of Death, Fire Storm, Creeping Doom... like all my spells.
Yuri Twobeards |
Huh, notifications stopped for this game - not sure why - hope they resume...
Yuri moves towards the saurian desperado, twirling his dorn-dergar. "Sir, you irk me!"

Rokgurn |
Rokgurn flies underneath the canopy in an attempt to end the combat.
He calls forth three spires of ice. Three giant size spears of ice attempt to pierce the skin of the Saurian.
Casting Ice Spears. As he is within 10' of the ground he is effected as per spell description. Reflex DC 21 for half damage.
Spear 1 Cold damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5

Spear 3 Cold damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
Spear 3 Piercing damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Grandmaster TOZ |
Reflex: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Rokgurn continues the assault, icy spears scoring frost bitten scratches in Rurat touch scaly skin. As the spears pierce him, Rurat sags, impaling his body further on the magical lances.
Thus ends the last saurian.
Rokgurn |
Could you recheck the math on the damage? It seems low even on a save.
Nevermind then. :)
Rokgurn |
Rokgurn goes to check if Rurat is actually dead or simply dying.
If he is not dead then Rokgurn will use his heal skill to stabilize him.
Rokgurn |
Rokgurn looks saddened by the fact but the creature would not listen to reason. He looks to see if Rurat has any items of value or magical qualities (Detect Magic).
"A shame really. However it was unavoidable."
Edit - "We should examine the items in the Cairn as well. Everyone is alright with but a few scratches?"
Rokgurn will continue to identify the magical items in the Cairn after looking over Rurat's body. (Take 10 on Spellcraft is 26 with Guidance).
Grandmaster TOZ |
Rokgurn finds Rurat was armed with +1 equipment, all Huge sized. The fine boots in the sarcophagus are boots of speed.
Rokgurn |
Rokgurn gathers all items of worth (even non-magical). He considers burying valuables with the dead a wasteful act. He hands off the heavy items for the Paladin and Barbarian to carry.
No game effect as loot has no in-game weight. :)
"Omrax. Perhaps you should use these boots? They will allow you to move much more quickly in battle."
I think that Omrax is the only martial without Boots of Speed. If he does not want them my character can use them but he is the best choice I think.
Rokgurn has a closer look around the pinnacle of the ziggurat for an entrance inside or any markings of note.
Edit - He will examine the cairn as well.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Judging from the garb, the sarcophagus is the resting place of some forgotten pirate lord. The ziggurat appears to be a solid vanity piece, without any interior chambers.
Rokgurn |
Rokgurn will check around the area looking for tracks that might have been left by a Gnome. He also spends a moment to retrieve his convocation of Giant Eagles.
To our knowledge are we at the meeting place that Strake described? Also with the death of Rurat has the winds subsided?
Grandmaster TOZ |
Searching around the ruins, numerous small boot prints can be found in the softer ground. A game trail leads further north. The windstorm continues to blow, clearly not stopping even with the death of the saurian.
Rokgurn |
Would it be possible to pray for spells (15 minutes) in this windstorm? We could use the four Giant Eagles to block out much of the wind in a small area. Or my character could use his massive survival skills (31 on a take 10 ) to devise some shelter from the wind.
"I would like to rest and pray for a few minutes before continuing. I have found tracks and I think I can find her."
Omrax the Bold |
Omrax will bow to the fallen Rurat and say a short prayer to Iomedae before recovering his lost sword.
• I will never refuse a challenge from an equal. I will give
honor to worthy enemies, and contempt to the rest.
• I will suffer death before dishonor.
Is anyone injured?
He will lay hands on any requesting healing before expending one last to heal himself (25+31, he is back to full).
By the Inheritor, heal us with thy divine light.
hands: 6d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 6, 1, 6) + (2) = 31 (Hamish, if you need healing, roll 7d6 and let me know to mark it off. He has 12 or so remaining)
I will accept the boots if none other can benefit from them.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Rokgurn and Kasimir are certain they will not be able to concentrate on spell preparation in the windstorm. They will need to get out of the area to find an appropriate location.
Yuri Twobeards |
Now that his fury has subsided, Yuri returns to his usual cheerful self, offering shots of Celwynvian brandy to any who might be interested.
He has a small bump on his head from tumbling down the pyramid and, when Omrax has his back turned, he hands a little stick to the priest of Asmodeus and asks if he wouldn't mind using it for him. 1 charge of Infernal Healing heals the 10 points of damage that Yuri took.
Yuri already has boots of speed.
Rokgurn |
@Hamish - I thought about the Gull but the Paladin needs more of a boost against Neutral opponents.
"We will pray under better conditions Kasimir."
He waits for the party to heal itself and then Rokgurn will begin to lead the party. He will follow the booted tracks of the Gnome (Take 10 on Survival is 31).
He can track and move at full speed due to Deadeye Lore and the others can keep up on back of the Giant Eagles.
Yuri Twobeards |
Yuri also rides an eagle, somewhat uneasily.
Grandmaster TOZ |
With Rokgurn leading the way, the eagles wing through the jungle for almost a quarter of an hour before the winds abate. The party reaches the edge of the storm and quickly finds a quiet location to pray.
Rokgurn |
"Well that was not long. We can pray here."
Rokgurn has Whisper on look-out as he and Kasimir pray.
As soon as they are done (15 minutes) he resumes the hunt.
Grandmaster TOZ |
Rokgurn leads the way through the undisturbed jungle, making excellent progress along the game trail. Much of the wildlife appears to have gone into hiding from the storm and large predators, such that the party encounters little but birds and insects along the path.
After perhaps twenty minutes, an eerie mist settles heavy on the ground, as the lush jungle gives way to a desolate killing field. Enormous bones from countless creatures litter the barren field. A sulfuric stench rises from pits of a bubbly, black substance. On the far side of the clearing looms a stone structure—a bleak, gray shadow in a tomb of emerald trees.
How would you like to proceed?
Rokgurn |
The entire party (except the Giant Eagles) are protected by Life Bubble so they are immune to any gasses and are protected from the elements (as per Endure Elements).
Whisper and Rokgurn chat (in air) to see what they know about this natural hazard. They lead the party back from the hazard to discuss their approach.
Take 10 on KS-Nature is 33, Take 10 on Survival is 31
"I do not recommend walking through there."
Edit - Would it be possible to fly around the killing field and arrive at the temple?
Grandmaster TOZ |
Rokgurn recognizes them as tar pits, heated to boiling temperatures by underground magma flows. The pits do not cover the entire field but are sizable. Flying over the field would allow landing on the steps of the temple, but it appears to be in the center of the barren no mans land.
Rokgurn |
"I suggest that we fly far over this field and land at the steps of the temple. Anyone that can shield themselves against the heat should do so as a precaution. Tar pits are known to bubble up from time to time."
Rokgurn will cast Protection from Energy (Fire) (extended by rod) on himself, he will also recover the spell Heightened Awareness from a Pearl of Power and cast it on himself.
Whisper returns to his protective case in Rokgurn's backpack.
Hamish Carmody O'Toole |
Hamish is already flying on his own... he just prefers to walk. =)
The Gull could make use of an air walk though!
The intrepid captain spends a minute calling the Seaward Gull out of dry dock, then eyes the temple with a frown.
"A ship graveyard, that be." He observes. "Probably nasty shoals as well. Last one o' these we sailed through, nearly took half the crew... and then sent them back to try to take the other half."
"Mr. Phips! High alert!" He calls, and the tiny crew starts prepping for danger once more, including deplying the metal plating along the hull. Some of them looking distinctly nervous... a hard feet to pull off, considering they have no facial features.
"Prepare the depth sounders." He yells, and some of the sailors immediately move to the rails, tossing small weights over the side, attached to thin lines with colored markers tied at set intervals along the length. As the ship slowly starts to sail forward, the crewman call out cryptic numbers, which you assume are depths... though how one measures a depth on solid ground you're not sure.
Use his minor rod of extend spell to cast an extended Evolution Surge on the Gull (increasing its size to Large), then add a Shield spell and send it forth, once folks are ready!
Omrax the Bold |
Omrax will accept the airwalk and also recovers his divine favor from his pearl of power.
By all appearances, nothing good is happening here. Step with care.
He will also cast his own resist energy fire (assuming the prior one has expired).
Yuri Twobeards |
Yuri accepts both airwalk and hide from undead - when he's not excessively angry he is able to recognize that his friends' magic can actually be quite beneficial, as opposed to that of all the villainous witches and warlocks he has met over the years, which still fill him with fury and suspicion.
Glancing in his backpack, he realizes glumly that he forgot to restock more of those handy potions of embiggening. Great... he sighs to himself, now I have no way to cut short all those inevitable jokes about my height. Those make me so mad! Silently seething and stewing to himself as he recalls past slights, Yuri tries to soothe himself with a quick martini before the inevitable dungeonpalooza begins.
Kasimir vonVang |
Kasimir flies toward the right side of the map, taking care not to pass directly over the tar pits. He’s got time to go around.
While not air walking at the moment (he’s enjoying a new application of his riding skills), he did include himself in the air walk spell, in case the eagle gets killed.
Omrax the Bold |
Omrax would be airwalking 30’ up , especially if the eagles are to risky to ride or endanger.
Crazy Hairy |
Bombshell accepts the Air Walk with thanks, though she'll hop on Eagle for now.
So it's been a little under an hour since the temple/dinos?
