"We will spare your wretched lives, but tell us, where do you come from? Who is your master?
I've lost the thread a bit, but we are looking for who sent the giants to attack the wizard-giant, right?

GM Abraham |

Correct.
In return for you sparing their lives, the giants happily direct you to the nearby encampment of their tribe, which is led by Grunf, the most fearsome and terrible giant of all!
"If your lives are worth anything at all to you, outlanders, you will not dare face the wrath of Grunf!"
The hill giants know nothing about the whys and wherefores of the attack upon Zoarth's castle and overall turn out to be even stupider than they appear. Once the pathfinders have finished questioning them, they flee into the wilderness, never to be seen again.
Next stop: the giants' camp. I probably won't get it posted until tomorrow or the next day. Feel free to post any preparations you wish to make - with the directions from the giants you are easily able to approach the camp unseen.

![]() |

Do we think we would have a chance to rest before the giant camp? Or is it too close? No worries if we can't. I have plenty of healing left.
Now that we know the camp exists, maybe we can get a jump on the bad guys for a change?

![]() |

Heccan relaxes as the giants finally surrender. HE quirks a brow, contemplating a course of action but decides against it as he sees the giants flee.
"A pity, they could have been...useful."
Heccan shrugs and prepares himself.
When we are ready to take on the giant's camp, Heccan will buff himself with mage armor, cat's grace and shield. HE will also jump at the chance to rest before taking on the encampment.

GM Abraham |

The giants make it seem like the tribe's camp is very close, but then they are giants. You think that you could reach it today if you wish, but you could also rest first if you prefer. Whether that may have unwished for consequences remains to be seen. You do note that the fleeing giants are moving in the opposite direction from the camp.
I'll go with the first two votes for A) Press on to the camp today or B) Rest the night.

![]() |

Get a bit closer, then B) Rest for the night. Final Answer Regis!

![]() |

"If this was merely a hunting party of a larger war band, perhaps getting a bit closer and then resting so we can attack at full strength would be best." AKA B

GM Abraham |

After their labors battling the giant hunting party as well as the monstrous bear the giants were apparently hunting, the party rests for the night. A long night. A very long night. Indeed, when they awaken, fully refreshed (i.e. all spells and daily abilities restored, and everyone back to full hit points), they all feel almost like Rip Van Winkle. Whoever he was.
It is only a few hours hike to reach the hill giant settlement. Ahead is an ugly, simple camp of crude, hide tents gathered around the side of a rocky, barren hill. A few ill-kept fires burn lazily in pits, roasting large haunches of meat or boiling pots of stew whose contents are better left unknown. By human standards, the tents are large, but the giants that live here likely find them barely big enough to sleep in. Piles of crudely painted stones lie near a pile of various weapons; most of the weapons are immense clubs, but there are also a few massive axes, swords, and spears. A few giants wander slowly about the camp, not terribly vigilant or energetic. The entire area stinks of dung, rancid meat, wet leather, old iron, and offal.
Large dire wolves can be seen patrolling the perimeter of the camp, much as human nomads use guard dogs. They look much like those you encountered earlier: bloodthirsty, mean, and hungry. They do not (yet) appear to have sensed the approaching pathfinders.
A trio of giants (Red, Pink, Orange) stands at the edge of camp. Although such things are not always easy to tell with the brutish creatures, one appears to be a young male and another a young female. They talk excitedly with each other and with the third giant, who stands two feet taller than the others and has two heads—one head appears to be male while the other might actually be female.
Further back, behind the tents, is a large cave entrance. Standing near this opening are three identical male giants (Blue, Green, Yellow). They wear banded armor and tote massive two- handed axes (unlike the other hill giants you have seen), so they are clearly not typical members of their kind. Their gear is well maintained and their stoop is less pronounced, which makes them even more different than their fellows. They seem relatively alert and ready for action, though from this distance they have not yet noticed the pathfinders.
What would you like to do?

![]() |

Heccan ducks behind any any brush cover he can find nearby. Refreshed from a much needed rest. He leans in to listen to the busy encampment. He mutters under his breath. "By the laws, are there no end to these monsters. They must breed like rodents."
Can we hear what the young male and female are saying? If so, Heccan will cast comprehend languages to be able to understand them.

![]() |

The paladinnods, "Agreed. There filth spreads like a broken damn."

![]() |

"Won't be long before those wolves catch our scent. I'm no tactician. One of you have some magic to change to battlefield, or do we just charge in, weapons drawn?"

![]() |

Anen will cast overland flight at the start of the day, and if possible, he'll cast a few spells once he's aware of the settlement, if its safe to do so: mage armor from a wand, mirror image with the lesser extend metamagic rod, heightened awareness from a wand, and shield with the lesser extend metamagic rod.
(Possible) mirror images: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
"There's a lot of them. I'd prefer something a little less confrontational, if possible." Anen says. "Plus, you know, village. Brings up some tricky ethical considerations, best avoided."
Still, he draws his reach metamagic rod, and makes sure the scroll of see invisibility and the wand of cure light wounds are safely loaded into his wrist sheaths.
If he can hear the speaking, Anen speaks Common, Ancient Azlanti, Shadowtongue, Draconic, Osiriani, Tien, Skald, Elven, Terran, and Celestial.

Tytus looks at the giants, trying to find out more about them.
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 1d6 + 17 ⇒ (3) + (6) + 17 = 26

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Looks like we are all here - excellent - happy new year, everyone. May 2021 be healthy and happy for all.
The three creatures nearby are all speaking quite loudly - giants not being known for their bashfulness - and the pathfinders can hear their conversation quite easily from their nearby spot in the underbrush. They don't appear to have spotted the adventurers. Yet.
Red and Orange appear to be hill giants - much like the ones the pathfinders have already encountered, though perhaps a bit younger - and are speaking in Giant. The third creature, however, is something else - giant-like, but also different, notably having two heads, one male and one female, and they are speaking a pidgin mishmash of Giant, Goblin, and Orc.

Btw, regretting that I didn't overrule the module and say that each square was 10' instead of 5. It's an obvious error in the module (the tents are too small for a single giant to live in!) and would make this encounter much more manageable. Oh well.

Ok, I've gone ahead and adjusted the map - from here on please consider that every square is 10' by 10' instead of 5'. This means that your (large) foes each occupy one square. It also means that you'll need to position yourself in the correct quarter of your own square so that I can tell which (5') square you are in. For now, I've shrunk everyone's tokens accordingly and put you in the middle of your square - please just choose whichever corner you would like to be in and we'll play it from there. Also, Anen, feel free to adjust the location of your Stinking Cloud (within reason).
