Heccan cries out in horror, a sound never uttered by the resolute Chelxian. He looks about in a panic and then flees the area, running faster than any of his comrades knew he was capable.
Heccan usually does not have any items held generally. Do we get a another chance at a save next round?

![]() |

Anen curses under his breath, watching the others bolt. "Knew I shoulda bought that wand of remove fear."
He looks at the prisoner thoughtfully before casting detect magic and sweeping the area.

![]() |

As he runs away . . . Why should I be afraid of pipes? It makes no sense and yet I am terrified. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

GM Abraham |

As more than half of the group flees in terror, Caduceus and Anen are left to face the situation on their own. Fortunately, the satyr does not appear particularly combat-minded, as he has already run off into the woods.
Meanwhile, Th'telis glares at Anen and Caduceus. She waggles her tear-stained face at the paladin one more time, as if to remind the champion of virtue that he is supposed to aid poor captured damsels such as herself, but when this does not get her what she wishes, she huffs in annoyance, mutters "...fine... Keep yer baubles, then! Selfish!" and disappears into the tree that she has been leaning against.
Anen's detect magic soon determines that there is indeed some magic in a brush beside Th'telis' tree, where he finds a ring of jumping, a +1 amulet of natural armor, fourteen +2 seeking arrows, and a masterwork bow.
Nearby, although not magical, he also finds a stash of excellent wine, 12 bottles bejeweled and of outstanding vintages, hidden in a tree stump.
In the time that it takes to find these items, the fear spell wears off on the others, who are all able to return, where they find their comrades, the loot, and no sign of either the satyr or the dryad.

![]() |

Heccan shakes his head as the spell fades, clearing it of magical cobwebs. "Well, I can honsetly say I have never been so frightened of a beautiful girl in all my life. Some powerful sorcery indeed to cause me to flee. Positively terrifying! Though, I admit I am a bit intrigued, I mean..." Heccan trails off as he spies the ornate bottles. He stops mid sentence, something exceedingly rare for the wordy former barrister. He blinks and a wide grin spreads across his face.
"Where did you find those! By the laws! I mean, I can only imagine the vintage..." He looks at his fellows "Let's be honest, its been a trying few days. Fighting that dreadful monstrosity, Hector dying and all, then fleeing in a panic. We deserve a little refresher, no?" Heccan looks almost pleadingly at Anen and Via.

![]() |

"You're absolutely right, Heccie. These probably fell off the back of a cart. Its probably, uh, divine intervention. From Cayden Cailean." He looks expectantly at Caduceus.
I've no need for any of those items.

![]() |

With a conceding smile, "Cayden himself? Who am I to stand in the way of Divine Intervention?"

GM Abraham |

The pathfinders continue on their way for a few more days without incident until...
Cresting a tree-covered hill brings into a view a group of six thick- limbed giants with hunting clubs and throwing stones at the ready—but somewhat startled at seeing a group of adventurers, as if they were a hunting party looking for other prey. However, when the pathfinders come into view, they move to attack.
We are on to the next encounter but I'm not sure if I'll have time to set it up today or not. Will get it posted as soon as I can.

After several days journey without incident, shortly after lunch one day, cresting a tree-covered hill brings into a view a group of six thick- limbed giants with hunting clubs and throwing stones at the ready—but somewhat startled at seeing a group of adventurers, as if they were a hunting party looking for other prey. Spying the pathfinders, they are immediately hostile, as if the giants will accept the pathfinders as substitute prey in lieu of whatever else they may have been hunting.
These are obviously hill giants, and dressed similarly to the ones that you have already encountered multiple times.

GM, is it alright if Anen has Overland flight up? it lasts 10 hours, so he casts it each day after breaking camp.
Anen quickly casts haste on the party.

GM Abraham |

Yes, assume that any of your regular start-of-the-adventuring day spells and abilities are up and functioning.

![]() |

Woohoo! What's the deal with the trees? Difficult terrain? Don't want to just sprint forward into a gang, but want to clarify that point first.

![]() |

"Caduceus, did you enjoy getting big and mighty? I could do that again if you want to go toe to toe with these brutes."
Will cast enlarge person on Cad if he'll accept it. If no, I'll move forward to my duplicated position on the map a ready to attack if one gets close enough for some reason.

![]() |

Heccan sneers as the giants descend. "More of them. I will not miss the sight, or the smell of these creatures." Heccan's hands wave in circles as me mutters low and in sinister tones. The pale Chelaxian fades from view.
Heccan casts greater invisibility. Offense magic on deck.

Suddenly, there is a crash of underbrush and a cracking of breaking tree limbs as a huge monstrosity makes a sudden entrance with a ground- shaking roar. It seems almost inappropriate to call it a bear, for it stands an impossible 16 feet tall on its hind legs, its back is covered with bony ridges, its head and joints have horn-like projections, and its claws and teeth are unnaturally large, even for a beast of this size. Aw farts! I missed his roll, just the wall of 'giants' rolls. Damn, the first time I had a decent set of rolls.
Feeling what he feels to be inherent evil, the paladin calls on the holy powers to to aid in his struggle to escape this creatures grasp.
Swift Action to Smite Evil
So, do we just use my first die roll for the escape? With my swift action Smite Evil and Enlarge, that would be +21 to the roll (37). If it is not evil/smite-able, then it would only be a +15, totaling 31.
IF you need me to roll separately....

Hector stabs at the bear, wounding it slightly. No flank since Caduceus doesn't threaten the bear since he's pinned, but the bear does lose its dex bonus due to pinning Caduceus, so your precision damage would apply.
Heccan blasts the creature with two bursts of fire, one of which critically strikes the beast!
Caduceus brings the power of Iomedae upon the monstrosity, but it appears that Iomedae has little interest in bears, no matter how huge they may be. It's not evil, so no effect from your smite. The paladin attempts to free himself from the clutches of the beast but cannot wriggle free.
