Kioshi' Katsu |
One thing about the items you just received. They are of very different values based on books price but they are all around the same strength in my opinion (the most expensive might be the weakest). For that reason, they have no resale value. Otherwise, I would have just doubled Ben's wealth. Please make a note somewhere on your character sheet that if sold there is no value so you are parting with them for RP reasons.
Thanks for the information GM.

So, I reviewed all my Inquisitor options and, I think I'm just going to stick with the basic class. I liked some of the archetypes suggested thematically and some of the abilities they provided but they all took away judgements, which is my favorite part of the class.
Lidia* |
I finally figured out who Thyste reminds me of.
Lidia* |
Lidia is finally leveled up to 6.
Notable upgrades for 6th level: Improved Precise Shot feat, 2 attacks per round. Skill points put into Perception, Acrobatics, Stealth, Survival, Knowledge Local & Nature, Sense Motive.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
I’ve got two attacks per round and an extra Charmed Life, but I haven’t been using Charmed Life nearly enough to need it lately. Of course, now that I say that...
Little Ben PBP |
Rearding the question:
"And if Hildy's brother is down in the animal pen, we need to figure a way to get him safely out of there before he drowns. Ben, those gates around the animal pen, how secure did they look? Like, if we were to bust the dam, would they hold back the water for any time at all?"
What could Ben tell about the gate?
GM_Grandlounge |
They are sturdy and fortified but not built as a retaining wall. The water will flood in.
Little Ben PBP |
Is the ABP a choice or a mandate?
GM_Grandlounge |
You can opt-out if you are looking for a more survival-oriented tougher AP, but there is no cost other than some extra math when leveling.
Little Ben PBP |
I don’t think you get anything by not taking it...
Well, it does mean that you cannot buy armor/shield/rings with AC bonuses or weapons with enhancement bonuses, or headbands with stat bonuses and you are limited to what the ABP dishes out. So you are likely to have lower stats and AC, but more fun equipment. Like Ben's belt. But in an AP where you are away from large cities, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get those items anyway. And I really like the idea of getting those slots filled with something other than the same old same old.
Is that correct? So his +1 scimitar would not be +1 any longer but the level 4 +1 bonus could be assigned to any one of his weapons, right?
GM_Grandlounge |
So his +1 scimitar would not be +1 any longer but the level 4 +1 bonus could be assigned to any one of his weapons, right?
This is right. That said I want you to be able to uses as many story items as possible. If you find any item better than what you have you can use it as usual. Following normal stacking rules you get just the better bonus. I'm also not curbing your wealth by level so the additional cash for non big six stuff should more than make up for things like AC scaling a little slower if you but creatively.
Lidia* |
I'd forgotten about the ABP rule completely. I don't think I've looked at it since I created the character. Lidia is now updated according to ABP bonuses. For Mental Prowess I boosted her Wisdom. I considered boosting her Charisma to get it out of negative territory (currently CHA 8) but I couldn't justify it the way she's behaving. I'm afraid she's going to remain surly and difficult for a bit longer. Sorry Kioshi!
I feel like an idiot now for blowing all my character money on a +1 longbow back in Trunau, though from a character roleplaying perspective it still seems right. And sadly, Ulretha's new ring is not all that special now.
I'd also forgotten to update my cat. That is now rectified.
Little Ben PBP |
The bow was not all that bad of an invsestment. You can only grant that +1 from ABP to one weapon, so now you can use it on another weapon...
OK, you blew it on the bow.
Looks like I have a minor character rewrite to do.

So, a quick q:
Thyste has been slowly amassing poison equipment and skills over the adventure. She also has ten doses of poison lip paint and the Dazing Charm deed.
Would it be possible for me to craft some Purple Pesh? With Dazing Charm, getting it onto an enemy that spots Thyste before they raise the alarm shouldn't be too hard.
Although Thyste is gonna have to brush her teeth afterwards.

Yeah, the magic bonuses aren't doing me much good, but the stat bonus to Wiscome came at both a mechanically and thematically appropriate time.
Little Ben PBP |
Too true, Mr. Inquisitor.
Little Ben PBP |
Of course we will need to bring Kioahi along to turn Umlo invisible when we actually spring him. I was thinking the first visit would be to warn him and tell him to get ready for when we actually sprung him.
You are probably right in that we really don't need to warn him first, but what if there is a friend he wants us to take too, or a stash he has to get to first or there are guards right by him and he makes a fuss in confusion?
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Agreed. Additionally, we might be able to slip him some food (if they haven't been feeding him) and a grappling hook+rope, so that he has something to hold onto if we accidentally bust the dam early.
Ulretha |

He'll take the rescue we give him and be glad of it!
In my day, we didn't whine about "friends" or "stashes" or "drowning in a flood of water."
We watched our friends and our stashes drown and we liked it!
Weeee looooved it!
Ulretha |
Unless I'm miscounting, if Kioshi memorizes invisibility for all of his second level spells, he can cast it on himself and Ben, giving them just under 6 minutes to fly into the keep. Then cast it on himself, Ben and Umlo and fly out for just under 6 minutes.
Seems like eternity in Pathfinder rounds (60), but 6 minutes isn't very long when you're talking actual distance flown.
Ulretha |
And...of course...we haven't discussed HOW Kioshi and Ben are going to break him out, unless the pen he's in happens to be open at the top.
I assume neither the wizard nor the druid knows how to pick a lock.
Little Ben PBP |
Another good reason for a reconnaissance run. And remember those third level spell slots can carry second level spells too.
GM_Grandlounge |
The pen is a full cage, with a top Ben would have noticed that. His perception is good.
GM_Grandlounge |
I went ahead with the recon. You can come back to pick off patrols or to do further planning or possibly with a freed prisoner.
GM_Grandlounge |
For the next three or four days or so we will be at a bit of a slower pace for all the players that have holiday plans. I will try to keep my posting consistent for you all so you still have the game to play.
Happy Holidays.
Little Ben PBP |
Appreciated. Unlike many, the holidays leave me with a lot of free time which means more time for gaming.
Happy Holidays to you all too.

Wanted to re-raise this question, especially now that we've got a little time to kill between missions (so that our casters can get some sleep and be at the top of their game).
Little Ben PBP |
Plan, point by point
1) Scout a good rendezvous area for Umlo to head towards where he will be hidden from view.
2) Wait a day and have Little Ben get the burrow spell and a swarm spell and Kioshi gets 3 invisibility spells, an ant haul, and two pit spells.
3) Ulretha and Lydia move to the rendezvous area.
4) Kioshi casts invisibility on Ben and Thyste and ant haul on Ben.
5) Ben shifts into dinosaur form and he and Thyste fly over to Ulmo
6) Thyste sneaks in and tells Ulmo the plan. Ulmo goes over near Ben.
7) Ben shifts into human form, still invisible, and casts Burrow on Ulmo.
8) Kioshi casts invisibility on himself and sneaks up to the dam after waiting 5 minutes.
9) Kioshi casts two pit spells to break the dam.
10) Ben hears the dam break and casts a swarm spell on the bears.
11) Umlo tunnels his way towards the rendezvous area.
12) Ben shifts back into flyer form.
13) Ben carries Thyste to the rendezvous area.
14) Ben, Thyste, Umlo, Ulretha, and Lidia meet up. Umlo is given a weapon unless he really prefers the frying pan.
15) The group slips away and meet up with Hildi and Kioshi. Ben turns into a tiny flying dinosaur to act as scout so that they do not meet up with any patrols.

Poisons in pathfinder take a crazy long time to make. You can Harvest some using these rules.
Harvesting Poison from Hazards: Some hazards, such as poison oak and spider vines, feature poisons that can be harvested by those who know how to do so. This process requires 1 hour and an alchemist’s lab or alchemy crafting kit. If the harvester succeeds at a Survival check (DC = 20), she collects 1 dose of poison. Harvesting poison from a hazard in this way requires getting close enough to it to touch it, which may expose the harvester to the hazard’s effects.
To use the poison lip paint for this you need an antidote Crafted against the poison.
https://aonprd.com/EquipmentMiscDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Antidote
Or
Crafting Antivenom: To create a dose of antivenom, a living creature must first be exposed to a half dose of the poison in question. The creature suffers the poison’s effects normally, except the saving throw DC to resist the poison is reduced by 2. In order to be able to produce antivenom, the creature must succeed at the necessary saving throws to be cured of the poison. If the poison’s duration expires without the creature being cured, no antivenom can be harvested.
Once the creature has resisted the poison’s effects, a viable sample of the creature’s blood can be extracted with a successful DC 20 Craft (alchemy) or Heal check. This blood must then be refined to extract the natural antibodies that combat the poison in a process that takes 1 hour and requires a successful Craft (alchemy) check (DC = 5 + the poison’s saving throw DC). Success yields 1 dose of antivenom.
Antivenom can also be harvested in the same fashion from a creature that has been afflicted by a full dose of poison, rather than a creature deliberately given a half dose for this purpose. Regardless of how much poison the creature is exposed to, the antibodies in its system can be harvested only for 24 hours after it has recovered from the poison.
Because Thyste has been working at this a while we can say she has a full alchemy crafting kit and has located the raw materials.
Normally, you would have to roll checks until your result x18 (the DC of the poison) equaled 2000 (the silver value of the poison). This would be 5 weeks of rolling a 20 average to make one dose.
My modified crafting rules for mundane gear is it takes 1h per 100 GP.
All that said I will need 3 DC 18 craft alchemy checks from Thyste. She will need to drink and overcome the poison to craft the antidote she needs.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Rad! Follow-up question: why is crafting poison so ding-dang slow and difficult? (You didn't write the game, this is more a shaking-fist-at-the-gods thing.)
Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
HA!
Lidia* |
Lidia is wearing a magic Belt of Hauling which has an Ant Haul spell on it. She could easily loan it to Ben and save Kioshi a spell.
Little Ben PBP |
Nice idea. If she offers IC Ben will take her up on it.
Little Ben PBP |
Right, so Ben has one more morph for the day. he can scout and so could the stealthy folks. Anything we should look for? Here are a few questions I have.
GM_Grandlounge |
The towers are lightly manned during the day. One could slip past if they moved quickly. They are unmanned at night.
See above. During the fights, all eyes are focused inward. The guards seem easily distracted.
The outside yes, inside no. Not all towers can see each other.
Not consistently. You do see people from time to time but not enough to know if they are stationed, archers.
Metal grate. It seems moveable but would require strength or time. It looks like it could be opened before flooding to make future entrance easier.
10-15 ft
It looks like they know who is a friend. No password.
Not recently but they come back bloody wit loot.
Yep.
Whenever orcs or giant return or there is a big to-do an orc head to the large building k33/34 seemingly with a report
Upon further inspection the orcs all avoid K22. Never going near it. It seems like a temple to a good god.
Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Is there a blind spot on the tower guard duty?

Useful for stealthy vixens!
Other notable features.

Ah, a "saferoom"!
Little Ben PBP |
I do love a good saferoom. Let's make that our objective when we infiltrate. If it IS a saferoom, I feel a lot better about slipping in during or just after the flood and hiding out in it. But let's see how things play out.
GM_Grandlounge |
So the plan is free Umlo while flooding in the mote. Then sneaking to the safe room. Will you meetup or is each group (flood and jail break) doing their own infiltration and meeting up there?
Little Ben PBP |
Maybe sneaking in. for now just implement the flood and freeing Umlo. We can take stock after that but if it looks like it is likely that we can make it to the safe room, I'm thinking we go for it.
GM_Grandlounge |
Sorry guys had an IRL game run long tonight. The planning is done so the action will start tomorrow. I will have a post up first thing.
I hope everyone is safe tonight.
