Gotcha.

Cindy urges the bear to scare the barbarian and the bear thinks this is a good idea. He bares his teeth and growls but it doesn't have much effect on the human warrior, who slashes at Bob again cursing the bear in frustration. Goldslip shoots the paralyzed barbarian point blank but the tough man continues breathing despite the crossbow bolt in his neck. Snowball bites him hard for good measure. Another barbarian spills out of the longhouse, runs in confusion around the bear, and strikes at Cindy. But the irritable and confused bear snaps at him as he rushes past.

Bob is struck hard (34 dam before DR) and so is Cindy! The doll is nearly shattered to pieces (32 dam before DR).

Cindy, the map says you are 15 ft off the ground but you'd have to be 5 ft up at most to be petting the bear so I'm working off that. The bear is ready to listen to what you say next. If it's a pretty common use of an animal companion, I'll treat it as if he/she knew the trick.

I'm going to GM fiat that crit didn't confirm. It's too rude to kill the bear literally the moment it arrives.

The barbarian rages and curses as the bear bites him. "Stupid animal! I always said we should have eaten you and worn your hide!" He rears back with his sword and slashes down hard, laying the bear's shoulder and chest wide open. The bear collapses to the ground, bleeding massively (26 dam to bear).

Cindy howls when she sees her new pet fall down bleeding, and almost rushes in to the remaining barbarian. Something in the back of her mind remembers the hit she took and realizes she's not ready to take another...

She pauses a second to regain control, and then swoops down to grab the darkness pebble and moves in as close as she can, hoping the circle of gloom will help her friends kill the last disgusting hairy man.

But Bob tries a new strategy! He leaves the paralyzed barbarian behind as he oozes on top of the unparalyzed one!

engulf:
Although it moves slowly, a gelatinous cube can simply engulf Large or smaller creatures in its path as a standard action. It cannot make a slam attack during a round in which it engulfs. The gelatinous cube merely has to move over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Opponents can make attacks of opportunity against the cube, but if they do so they are not entitled to a saving throw. Those who do not attempt attacks of opportunity can attempt a DC9 Reflex (DC 12 base creature) save to avoid being engulfed—on a success, they are pushed back or aside (opponent’s choice) as the cube moves forward. Engulfed creatures are subject to the cube’s paralysis and acid, gain the pinned condition, are in danger of suffocating, and are trapped within its body until they are no longer pinned.
